"I was going to say this game is a copy of the old computer game “Oil’s Well”, but according to GGDB, Anteater predates it by about 4 years."

Thanks for clearing that up.

Wow this looks like a clone of a really old arcade game called ‘Anteater’ if I remember right!

Good memory, Rich -- I was going to say this game is a copy of the old computer game "Oil's Well", but according to GGDB, Anteater predates it by about 4 years.

The site didn't have this area for comments yesterday. It didn't even show all the posts - quit at 41. So here goes.

Keep the repeats. My new computer needed Tiny Cars. I'll pass on this.

My review of Abandoned Well is here:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/2546

I have Vista and it works fine. Of course, I have 32-bit Vista, so that might explain it. ;)

Definitely not a Vista-only problem with the speed ;) But turning off the second CPU works nicely under XP. I wonder if the comp-mode does the same ;)

The game itself is not bad, but not great either. I don't think I will spend hours on it, like it did with Age of Japan 2 from the same team which cost me some nights already :)

#22 - I just discovered Kongregate this week & love, love, love it! I think I played about 20 levels of RolaSola [or whatever that game is called with the 2 balls going through the mazes].

Check it out - http://www.kongregate.com/games/

Normally it's so that the older the software the lower the price.

That this is a remake shouldn't make a difference seeing as that they don't add anything to the original concept.

The concept does indeed date back to the good ol' C64 days. A time when someone writing a game meant that he actual could program instead of copy/paste.

Selling it at 20 USD, even with the USD being as low as it is, shows that not only doesn't the programmer have inspiration and talent but that he thinks that anything he makes must be worth lots of money.

Seeing as that there are plenty of freeware version, online java versions and the like always available for absolutely free even makes the insult bigger.

Makes me wonder who long it will take him to make a brand new version of Pong as well as what he will be asking for it. Knowing him, probably 50 USD.

Very similar to this freeware game: http://www.caiman.us/scripts/fw/f148.html
Again, sorry for the negativism, but who normally pays twenty bucks for this stuff?

I will give this game a thumbs up but I can see it getting old after a while. I only played the first few levels so I may not be a good judge yet. It's a rather simple game to start with. Like others have said it's kind of a 'digger' \ 'pacman style game; eat the dots before you get killed. It's likeable but not great so far.

Thanks to GGAOTD and Realore Studios! :D

I wondered if this was a Oil wells remake. #5 answered that question. I played Oil Wells on the old Commodore 64 I had bought for my son. Oil wells was a good game. I found it really hard to get to the upper levels! If this is like Oil Wells, then it ought to be a good download. It looks to be like a 80s style game, so if you dont want that kind of arcadish gaming, the it isnt for you.

I read and heard a lot of horror stories about problems with Vista and when I wore my old trusty laptop out, I bought another one with no option for XP, could only get Vista and I did NOT want it. Fully intended to wipe it off and install XP, but decided to give it a try anyway. Turns out I am very happy with the 32 bit Vista Home Premium. I have had no problems with it, all games, even the ones that didn't say Vista compatible, worked great with no problems, until this one. It ran like it just drank a gallon of coffee. Way too fast to be controllable. I was about to try #18, Slasher's fix (thank you Slasher), then I read #19, niteraven's comment about changing compatibility and it works perfectly now. Thank you niteraven. In my opinion, the game is a very good remake of the old Oils Well. It plays very well on my Vista laptop now, it's fun. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's a timed game and I don't care for most timed games. I would have liked a non-timed menu choice. Realore did a great job on this game. Thanks to Realore, and thanks to GGAOTD.

Thank you for another game! The download and setup went quickly on my Windows XP; the game plays with no problems. Yes, this game does remind me of earlier-days :) I am not a big fan of arrow key play, but the game responds well enough - also, a joystick can be used. Thanks for another walk down memory-lane. Be back tomorrow, too.

Very nice arcade game very well produced. Simple and fun. Not using any annoying cutesy like so many casual games. I recomend it.
Only problem is that the game is intrisicly difficult, and might frustrate some people.

WOW! This game is really cool, but so far I've only gotten to level 10 and that was on easy so I don't thnk I'll get very far. Naturally it's Realore so there's no save feature and I don' know how many times I want to go through the first 10 levels. I've had none of the problems some others have had. Cool game GGOTD, thanks.

Wow! I really like this. Part Snake part Pac Man types but there's a feature to draw back your probe that I've never seen before and it's a real challenge. And dang those top row bugs.

Downloaded and installed fine on XP. I link you guys on both blogs. GGotD Rocks! So do the partners like Realore that give us these free full version games to keep us off the streets :)

This is another nice game. Graphics, music and controls are all acceptable. Thank you GGAOTD and of course Realore Studios for another great game. I just want to offer my opinion on the Windows XP vs Vista. I use Windows XP. I would not consider a move to Vista. Why? After reading the comments on the giveaways here for some time one of the first questions is "will it work with Vista?". You never see any doubt about XP. Vista is cool in a lot of ways but I'll stick with XP.

This is one site I visit daily, even if the games are not ones I like or don't seem challenging, at least you try them out, keep them or pass GGOTD to someone else. Yes this game today is an oldie. What I would like to see is newer games, since the developers will get feedback on the glitches, improvements etc., and likely word of mouth recommendations to buy it after you've tried it. Waiting for tomorrow's GGOTD.

Thanks for the fix niteraven. Vista HP 32-bit here, it played super-fast and the controls were super-sensitive (I couldn't even manage the first level like that). Changed compatibility and it's normal now. Thanks GGOTD and Realore.

#17 I am typing this to you on my laptop that has Windows Vista on it...it's 32 bit and all the software on it is as well. Just because a 64 bit version of Vista (and I believe XP) exist doesn't mean all versions are..in fact it's really hard to find a home PC user with a 64bit OS installed. Due to that lack of consumer software/hardware compatibility. So please don't tell people they can't run anything because they have Vista...while thats partially true cause Vista sucks...it's not cause of 32/64bit issues. :-)

Pretty amusing game I must say. I had no issues installing and activating and found it was more fun than I thought it would be!

#5 "Is this game a joke? No control touch (not hold) the arrow key dril goes all the way to the end of the shaft. played on win xp pro dual64 amd 3800+. rest of the games here have played correctly."

This must be an issue with you specifically. I did not experience this and would expect some bugs from an older game like this, every so often, on Vista.

Graphics, sub-par, even for 2003. But anybody who discounts a game based on graphics at this point, should probably not waste their time playing games on a PC. Sick with the Playstation, flop in Final Fantasy and have fun watching the pretty movies!

Commenting back on my previous problem. If anyone with Vista has this problem I found a fix that worked for me. I don't know exactly WHY this worked... but it did. I changed the compatibilty mode for this application to Win 98/Win ME. I don't know why it runs ok in that particular mode. Just right click on the icon,...go under properties.. then compatibility mode. It may be a problem only I was having.. but if you do run into it just try that fix. Hopefully it helps. Its a nice lil game btw. Its different and not just another clone of something existing. Definitely worth the download.

Hi,
If you have problems with the game speed, I mean if the game runs too fast just turn off 1 CPU for this game. You can do it by:
ctrl+alt+del >> processes >> Right click on AW.exe and choose the last option >> and uncheck one CPU
I'm sure it will work for You
Sorry if I'm making language mistakes, I'm just learning;)
Greetings from Poland;)

@15

You are wrong ;)

Vista is not compatible :D I think I read sth. about Vista downgrade to 32 bit versions. The problem you may have is, that Vista is a 64 bit OS. The most programs/games are just available in 32 bit versions...

And because of the great skills of microsoft programmers its not compatible downwards ...

Hope i could help
