In Brief:
Turrim is a fast-paced 2D top-down tower defence game.

You can see a video of game play HERE.
The Game:
The game is quite basic, with several different tower defences. Initially you only have access to five defences, one of which is a non-permanent placement defence in the form of a bomb (that is very useful on multiple enemies when congregated near the home base, which is in the form of a ruby crystal, i.e. because each enemy will be affected by the bomb). To use this defence, select it with one click of the LMB, then click where you wish the explosion to take place. The other four defences in the first level include the Magician, who has the greatest reach, but is slower to recharge than the Destroyer, who is your basic 'go to' weapon, though either of these two placeable towers are useful in the early stages of the game. What the wizard loses in its slower recharge speed (approx' half of the Destroyers reload speed) it makes up for by being able to cover a much larger area and is slightly cheaper than the Destroyer (at least initially). Then, the next tower to consider is the Moderator that slows down the enemies' advance, this is a useful tower defence, especially when used in conjunction with The Moon defence, which has a rapid rate of fire. Every time you place a new tower of the same type, it costs an extra two blue crystals to place, so, the more you place, the more expensive it becomes.

When you move on to the next level you also get three crystal improvers i.e. speed up red crystal production, increase maximum red crystal production and speed up blue crystal mining. Later levels (see the bottom middle of the last image) introduce other buffs that I've not experienced yet as I keep losing my ruby crystal before I can get to the end of the last few waves of the second level.

Each level may show you where to expect the enemy to appear via a Jolly Roger flag, so you could get warning of multiple routes on some levels (I'm not certain if this is evident in all later levels as I don't see a Jolly Rodger in the last image where there are two lines of attack); if anyone manages to pass later levels it would be appreciated if they could please clarify this. (Unfortunately, I don't have time to play the game any further today :( It's my daughter's birthday tomorrow :) and I want to get things ready for the celebration i.e., getting birthday cake, replacing the PSU in the computer I've just purchased for her as I think it's underpowered {replacing the 700watt PSU for a 1000W PSU as I'm adding a second graphic card to the computer} and getting the ingredients for the Vegan pie I'm making for her birthday meal etc etc....lots to do today. Plus, giving the house a good Spring clean as we expect guests.

Killing enemies earns blue crystals; you can see how many blue crystals you have via the top right display. Protect the Ruby crystal from attack by enemy forces. The Ruby crystal creates red crystals, at a steady rate; 'initially' this is up to a maximum of 20. Red crystals recharge the bomb defence. Each time you use a bomb it costs one extra red crystal. Using the crystal multipliers can be advantageous as they increase the speed of production of both blue and red crystals as well as increase the number of red crystals that can be stored at any one time. Initially this is 20, but each successive purchase of the red crystal production buff increases the figure by 10. As with the other tower defences, each successive purchase costs more.

You can see how much life the ruby crystal has via its life bar, located above the crystal. Each successive level has increased numbers of waves to contend with.

Once you've completed at least one wave the game will save your progress and a choice will menu choice will appear, called Continue; however, if you click on new game, all previous progress will be deleted.

Conclusion:
Turrim isn't the best TD game I've played and lacks some of the usual things you'd expect to see in a Tower Defence game such as a speed up button, more tower defence types and more importantly, tower upgrades; however, I still think Turrim is a worthwhile download; especially if you like Tower Defence games. The reason I say this is because it is quite challenging from the outset (i.e. from level one); at least until you figure out the combination of towers and the crystal multipliers you should use. The levels with more than one point of attack are the most difficult, so judicious use of the different tower defences is called for when multiple points of attack are seen; (I'd start with the wizard as your first line of defence as it should be able to cover both routes if the wizard is place appropriately.

It took me four attempts' before I managed to get through the first level, despite it only having five waves. Level two has eight waves and I've not yet succeeded in passing that level. I do not know how many levels are included with this game; if anyone manages to get to the end, please let the community know, thank you..
Notes on Security
I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found zero hits from 63 antimalware engines. You can see the scan results HERE.

Of all these games on the weekdays, probably the ones I want the most are Tower Defense. But, AGAIN "not a valid win 32 application". At least not according to my Win XP, SP3, 32 bit machine. ARRGH! Oh well, as Miss Scarlet said, "Tomorrow is another day."

Thanks GGOTD and Whiterabbit. Your review has a lot of interesting clarifying and tactical information. Pity I can't use it. :P Happy birthday to the Rabbitess, btw. See'ya tomorrow folks.

watcher13,

Thanks, and sorry it doesn't work for you. I'll be keeping this one as it's definitely challenging after the third wave in level 1.
