I think you guys should pay attention to this game
http://www.gamesheep.com/game/monster-truck-trials/

This may be 'rip off' of your games too as the other bike flash arcades:)
Good luck in witch-hunt:)

By the way the good game, but that version on gametop better than these two halves.

Thanks for ripping our Monster truck game. Also nice work combining it to our Trials game by adding Trials at the end.

Original can be found from here:

Windows XP pro ver.2002,service pack3, Dell xps600, 3g ram, 14.9gb harddrive, 97.6gb free.
The first game, I ended up deleting due to freezing my puter and nothing but a black screen..
This Monster truck, downloaded fine, installed fine, started quickly,I think the graphices are very good, grandkids loved the sounds,(drove me nuts).
Would love this game If I had more control, like
1.able to make the window smaller or full size
2.could use a mouse or keyboard
3.could jump the bleeping cans that blow up
4.The truck wouldn't flip over quite so easily
5.I felt the hills the truck was supposed to go up were a bit too
much, should not have been so steep.
My 12yr old grandson played for all of 5 min. and walked away, normally he loves these kind of games. (Xbox called to him)
My 7yr old grandson also loves these types, he tried a bit longer about half an hour, he loved the sounds, he managed to do what I couldn't (get past those darn first round of barrels that kept blowing me up so I would have to start over.
He got frustrated that some of the hills were so steep the truck kept flipping over. and quit again (Xbox called to him also)
They both said they kind of like the game but also wanted more control.
My 7 yr old granddaughter didn't try herself, she watched the boys and said too hard..
Thank you for the chance to play,I at least enjoyed trying

After getting it to install properly due to me the users fault

This game plays way way better than Monster Trucks Trials. But there is still plenty of room for improvement. Still a few collision physics issues. Some tweaking is still needed with the controls.

And needs a bit stronger set a graphics

Still a lack luster title. But gives some quicks enjoyment.

I just hope that the few game authors that still come here can look past the "!@#$%^&*" and let others know that there is still a few here that will give them what they are looking at.

@ #56 (WhiteRabbit):
First thank you for the compliment. I am really sorry about missing them and I hope they both know that it was nothing meant in malice. I do/have appreciated both Wiz and rO for their tireless work as well. I guess I mentioned you mostly because I felt like it was an attack on you. Though I do admit freely that those two are doing a fantastic job and have personally added to the hours of free game enjoyment. If you are reading Wiz and rO.. THANK YOU SO MUCH and sorry for not mentioning you as well!

let me say this, we give our games so that we can test them in the market. We want constructive critics to comment on how good or how bad our games are and maybe give us what they think will improve the game. hats off to the staff for putting up with some of these !@#$%^&* and giving us these games. i thank you even if the game is not my type.

Hi Spiritwolf; Sorry for the delay in answering your query. I was playing Left 4 Dead and totally lost myself for a few hours, lol. With respect to your question about Gametop; it is becoming increasingly common for the games that are being offered to include browser hijack and tool bar installation codes, though they can always be avoided so long as you uncheck the tick boxes during installation. A few years ago none of their games did this, but they seem to be following the trend that was (from what I've seen previously) instigated by MyPlayCity. I'd definitely not touch MyPlayCity with a barge pole as they actively force you to have your browser hijacked and you have to allow toolbars to be installed before you can play their games (though there are several from their large catalogue that will allow you to deselect the toolbars and browser hijacking.

As for Gametop, all the games will still open your browser when you close the game down, but it’s not a hijack; and you can close it down with no problems after the closure. I have noticed more pop ups when entering the Gametop site, but that’s probably more to do with my security settings than the site changing its policies. I’d certainly recommend the games from Gametop and from another site called FreeGamesPick. I’ve never had any problems with any of the games I’ve downloaded from either of these sites.

To Watcher and ibwebb, I read your comments with interest and found them both appropriate and well written. I agree wholeheartedly with what you were saying, especially about how the negativity that abounds in these comments sections has probably driven away some developers. I think it started when we were getting games from Double Games back in 2007

I felt like answering vilulf’s comments more aggressively, but decided that it wasn’t worth the effort, besides it would just bring me down to his level (or hers).

Thanks for the support as well. I do have two other community members helping me with the free games project now. (Wizzard of Oz and reverseOrder, both of whome have been brilliant)

"1) Exit the game
2) Edit config.cfg with notepad
3) Change line 7: weight_div = 400 to: weight_div = 500
4) save the file.
5) Start the game"

Thanks Dan. That helped a lot.

Its impossible to go up 45 degree, this breaks the laws of Physics? I think you need to do some more home work there. They have challenges in real life with dune buggies that climb a hill that is more than 45, look it up.

An update:
Dan's modification adjusts the weight of the vehicle. It's counterintuitive, though. The higher the number, the lighter the "truck". I assume he put it up to 500 and it allowed him to fly over some stuff by making the truck lighter. Lack of stability caused by lack of skill is my problem, so that doesn't help me. And going the other way doesn't help, either. Any increase in the weight can make the truck too slow to get over all the obstacles, even going from 400 to 390. Certainly to 375. Uninstalled.

These two programs try to use the ffdshow "codec", if you have it. In my case, it brought about a problem with the ffdshow compatibility manager. It triggered it, but I couldn't change the setting on or off and had to wait until the compatability manager (fortunately) timed out. It may have to do with the package that installed my version of the compatibility manager.

I still say I was right. On further inspection, the T-Rex still reminds me of a Honda Station Wagon. The Monster Truck of the lower middle class family with a couple of kids. LOL.

Since I know Whiterabbit is a reliable information source, I would like to ask him if Gametop is a safe place to download free games without such malicious or annoying behaviors such as opening browser windows when a game is launched or closed, trying to install toolbars, hijacking homepage, etc. So many free game downloads come with such nuiscances that I'm wary of downloading free games unless I can make sure the site & files are free of such malice!

How can anybody who isn't totally ignorant about GAOTD & its users, criticize Whiterabbit? He deserves recognition for singlehandedly working tirelessly to inform users of good freeware games ever since GAOTD stopped offering game giveaways daily and went to game offerings on weekends only!

Whiterabbit's reviews & links are always useful & informative contributions to the comments page, whereas there are always plenty of negative nonspecific comments that offer nothing constructive to anyone.

Perhaps if people who have problems with Giveaways would politely give some specifics about their problems, or even politely ask the developer for help or suggestions, they will receive help with solving such problems. If a Giveaway causes malware alerts, have the file scanned at virustotal and post a link to the scan results so others can go review the results for themselves. If a giveaway legitimately deserves negative comments. make those comments constructively inform others as to the details and nature of problems experienced!

@48 Dobromilka: No, local system time has nothing to do with activation. The activation is based on the GAOTD servers and the availability of a special code that allows the wrapper to decrypt and activate the Giveaway.

@47 ibwebb: I fully agree with you, on both points. I have no idea why vilulf is ranting so much. It looks like he wants to show off or something. And yes, Whiterabbit has done a lot for the GAOTD community. vilulf directly insulted the moderator. That is a definite no-no.

ibwebb, actually I thought you said some of it better. Unfortunately, I'm afraid our forums are not a better place to say that you think the projects going downhill. I see no evidence that GGOTD monitors the forums the way the monitor this comment section. I don't mind people saying the project's going downhill - I don't really have an opinion - except when they have an unrealistic view of what the project can and can't do. GGOTD doesn't have access to all the games in the world. Everything looks downhill if you think you're about to be magically transported to the top of Mount Everest. Unfortunately, such a spell doesn't exist.

As to today's game: wasn't going to try it until I saw Randy's comment that the controls work better in this version of the game. That maybe true, though I'm not sure. The roll controls might work a little better. Basically, roll left and roll right mean controlling the roll of the "truck" after it goes airborne. They refer to forward and backward on the screen, not right and left. It mainly helps to tap or hold the right arrow occassionally to avoid flipping over, but not too much or you'll nosedive. The main difference is the snow motif seems to appropriately give the truck less traction.

I wonder if GGOTD ends up behind the 8-ball on something like this, because they initially have to pay license fees, but I wonder how they'll get it back on advertising??? What I mean to say is I can't see a wide audience for either of the monster truck softwares. Experience gamers will blow through this in the blink of an eye and, since a bigger version is available from another (other?) sources, why would any gamer shell out $9.95 for this? And casual players without much skill are probably not going to find this worth mastering the feel of a game that doesn't seem to me to give that much "feedback". People buying for kids who are unaware what else is out there seem like the majority of these games' market. I wonder if you can make much of a buck on that small of an audience.

The bottom line for me is: these games just flat out need more development. Improve on these two and you could probably get 14.95. But, right now, considering what else is out there, this doesn't seem to be much more than a carnival booby prize. Maybe everybody (including the developer) should try Dan's suggestion. I guess I will, but I have a strong suspicion is not going to improve the game enough to really grab me.

Finally, it's a least good to see that this one has at least one of what I would actually call a monster "truck". The other 3 were the monster race car, the monster minibus, and the monster sedan (almost a small station wagon!).

@ #21 & 22 (vilulf):
Just a few comments. I usually bite my tongue but you touched a few 'sore spots' with me.
Yes, it is true; if someone gave away free dog poop someone would be there to get it. Hence why farmers can sell cow and horse manure. Yet, someone will always complain about some aspect of it (too expensive, not enough, too much, wrong color, etc). Also, your right that this comment section is here for a reason. It is for constructive criticism, endorsement, or recommendations about the software/utility given away. Which I realize I am NOT doing here and I have seen NONE of from you (with the exception of referring to this and the other version as “a piece of crap”; though it lacks any helpful suggestions or criticism in my opinion.). Blatantly flaming other or the team doesn't fit into any of those categories and does nothing more than cause the author of the give away to wonder if it is worth letting GGOTD freely distribute anything of theirs. I believe that is one of the reasons that GGOTD has such trouble getting the better ones to give away. Why give away your better stuff when the only feedback you'll get is whining and attacking the staff? If you truly believe that GGOTD is at the end of it's rope then go to the forum and comment to the staff or stop coming. Throwing out insults on the comment section for a give away is useless and counterproductive. GGOTD use to give away a game everyday and obviously the pool is running dry; whether it is because of the economy or because the authors are tired of giving away their product and getting useless feedback. I believe it is mostly the second myself. If you read the comments not everyone has a problem with the giveaway. Two people running the identical OS will have two different experiences. A lot depends on what else is running and what your setting are on.
Your comment in #22 was the one that really got to me. Obviously, you have never been on the forums and/or bothered to check into anything here. WhiteRabbit is one of the best things to ever happen to GOTD and I would be willing to bet my last dollar that there are a good many that would agree with me. He always gives a better than fair review and offers alternatives to those that might want more or slightly different. He is the first to take time out of his day to offer help on ANY problem and find solutions/fixes for a giveaway or anything else you might have a problem with. Also, he (as well as a few others now) spends a massive amount of time finding free games (usually several a day) for everyone with nothing more than an occasional 'Thank You' to show for it. Honestly, I am surprised everyone else held their tongue on you for that. He wasn't offering 'spam' for anything. There were a lot of people unhappy about this and after several posts trying to help out he let it be known that through his queries he found a great deal that might help some. Granted it isn't free, but it was a kind gesture. As for the “nice moderating dude”; I agree... your comments (and probably mine) made it through.

@ #33 & 34 (watcher13):

I wish I could have said it as well as you! Thank you and I agree completely.

Best Regards,
ibwebb

Hi Bill, When you get to the gamehouse home page you first need to log into your free account (you'll need to create one before you can get the ad supported free unlimited trials), then click on the panel to the top right where it says free game for the day. Today's game as now changed to Flash Dating now. That will take you to a second page - click on the download link. Once it's fully installed you should see two buttons. The lower one is for purchasing the game, the top one for playing an unlimited trial. There shouldn't be a time limit on it at all. Even though it saytrial, it is a full version game. I expect they say trial for legal reasons. I don't bother with them myself as I don't like the adverts interferring with my game play. :(

Thank you lots for the information Dan, I'll have to mess around with the config myself. :)

Hi James, Today's free game is similar, but it doesn't come anywhere near the polish of Trials 2 : Second Edition, nor is the game physics as good. Trials 2 also has great rag doll physics, which Monster Trucks doesn't have as there's no trials bike featured. (I highly recommend Trials 2: Second Edition if you're up for a challenge).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFtmvKtxGBo

As for calling it a rip off, most arcade games these days are copies of earlier arcade games. If the author had created a game that looked exactly the same I would have agreed with you. btw I got Trials 2: Second Edition by redlynx for less that what the author of this game is asking for his. (I got it as a package with Multiwinia, Eet, Gravitron 2, and I-Fluid for only $10 when I first started buying games via Steam in January - it's been offered again with Monster Truck Nitro and another one for not much more recently)

Hi Will, yes Trackmania is an excellent free online racing game, with the ability to build your own tracks. I got a free copy of one of the commercial titles when I purchased one of my DX 10 ready cards a couple of years ago. (Not that I've ever enjoyed the benefits of DX10 graphics as I only run Vista on my laptop which doesn't have a high powered graphics card) :( You can pick up a copy of the free Trackmania from Gamershell.

http://www.gamershell.com/download_12354.shtml

There's a server available just in case if you want to run your own game with friends.

To Dolores,
both Lumen and Bagh Chal were free standing games. If you had copied them to another HDD you may still have them. No registry entry is required once they have been registered.

@vilulf: Don't rant so much. Regarding #21 about ripping the game apart and killing the controls, I think that ripping the game apart is a bad decision, but killing the controls never happened, because even in the Gametop full version, the controls sucked.

I do agree that the GGAOTD team should get better games, such as the ones while they were giving away games every day (Alawar, Realore, even Gambana, and especially Merscom). Maybe the GGAOTD team should contact them first instead of waiting for them to contact the team.

Sometimes it's hard to believe how many shallow, self-centered whiners there are out there, who think they have a God-given right to say anything they want at anytime, because "they want to" (AHEM, vilulf) since this shows how little calss they actually have.

Hey, Stephen After reading #5 I scooted over to the Gamehouse link and it is for a Free *Trial* Version, or a Full Unlimited Version. I didn't dig into why they call it a trial, I'm assuming you can only play it for an hour or something, but I really can't call it a "a full version, commercial title" which is what we all come HERE for!

Thanks for all your efforts and contributions to the site, though. =o)

Wait, before you delete this game... I found this game very lame at first. On my machine, it was impossible to get even close to getting past the first race. Just as I was about to delete it, I noticed the CONFIG.CFG file. I opened it with notpad just for fun. Try this!

1) Exit the game
2) Edit config.cfg with notepad
3) Change line 7: weight_div = 400 to: weight_div = 500
4) save the file.
5) Start the game

This is a pretty powerful game engine which is very adaptable and flexible. Hey, they listed to the feedback and added a Restart button. The developers are listening at least.

The game went from un-playable, to pretty fun and left me for wanting more. I kept editing the weight_div to make it more challenging to see if I could win Gold medals at 500.

On my AMD 64 bit Vista machine, the first race was unbeatable unless I modified the config.

Thanks for the innovative offer!

This appears to be a rip-off of the popular "Trials" games. (http://www.redlynxtrials.com/ ) I actually thought it *was* a sequel due to the name. Very poor form, Hand Made Games. If the RedLynx team ever comes after these guys for trademark infringement, they'll have a pretty strong case.

http://www.trackmania.com - one of the best arcade racing games I've ever played. The free version (TrackMania Nations Forever) is one environment, The Stadium. You could play Nations Forever only forever and probably be happy. I did splurge the $40 and purchased United Forever. It offers more tracks, cars, and different environments.

Also want to say that I haven't found a lot of games here that appeal to me, nor a lot of software from the other giveaway site. But I have downloaded the occasional game and software that I'm REALLY glad was offered here. And that's good enough for me. That's why I REALLY am glad this project exists. But, then, I have realistic expectations.

We had a discussion over in our forums about complaining over quality, and I'll repeat some of what I said there over there in these comments, where more people will see it, anyway.

There's nothing wrong about complaining about game quality. As long as you realize that GGOTD doesn't have access to offer EVERY game in the world for free. And that GGOTD does not have the luxury of turning down developers who approach THEM about offering their software. This is a business, after all. I like Chess and Checkers and would have hoped the offerings from Falco would have worked better. Maybe they'll work out the bugs in the future. Ditto with today's developer. Adequate, not great software, whose developer will hopefully learn from what's happened here. But did you really think that GGOTD wouldn't offer all the games from these developers after being approached just because some of you didn't like them???

You don't have to accept that you won't see the latest Final Fantasy here and that there will be offers here that you don't find appealing. But, whether you accept it or not won't change anything. You can and should make your suggestions. But, you should also have realistic expectations. This is where you can occassionally find what is, to you, a gem. Nothing more, nothing less.

No, Virginia, there really isn't a Santa Claus. Just an occassional good deal.

Well said, Wanda S and others. I have thoroughly enjoyed many of the games that I have downloaded here. The main advantage from my point of view, is that I try games that I would not otherwise have heard of, like Bagh Chal and Lumen. I don't know that they would have stood out enough for me to try them if I were choosing from an entire site of games, but once I did I was hooked.

I reformat my computer every few months, and didn't get to play Bagh Chal and Lumen for long, so to the people who complain about repeats, just because you have this particular game don't assume that others are not happy to see it.

I like the concept but if you keep getting so much buggyness, it is hard to enjoy the game. I doubt it will stay on my computer very long. :(

This game does not have enough selection of cars and games! I sure hope the developer could help with that. Also, could they compress the large installation size?? Not everyone has that much disk space, provided they install a lot of software~!

Also, thanks Whiterabbit for such good and relevant comments.

The idea of a FREE Game is GREAT!!!! The idea that some people think that each game is SUPPOSE to be to everyone's Liking, is just plain old ignorance. Every person has an idea of what type of game they like, and this site has been doing EVERYTHING in their power to accomodate everyone over the years. If you don't like a game, then fine, DO NOT Download it. Wait until the next time a Game is offered for FREE!!!!!
So for ALL of you who have Thanked GIVEAWAYOFTHEDAY, I Congratulate all of you!!!!!!

I myself do not usually play racing games, but I am going to try it to see if I would like it. If I do NOT like it, then fine, I will just remove it from my computer.

SO FOR GGAOTD, I THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK AND FREE SOFTWARE & GAMES!!!!!!!!!!

GIL

Hi GAOTD, thanks for all the games you post. I won't be downloading this one, it's not the sort of game I like. I hoping that next weekend you'll post something like a hidden object game or match 3. I know alot of die hard game fans don't like these sort of games and I' jope they won't mind me asking for the one I do like.
Have a great week, see you next weekend.

Thank you for sharing this game with us. While it does not look like the type of game I enjoy, I appreciate you taking the time to find and post a game that some will like. I find it hysterical that most of the thumb-down reviews are submitted within minutes of the games being posted. These people mewl about what a waste of time the game is without grasping the irony; they're awake and gaming at 3AM! Surely if they have enough time and energy to download, play and gripe about a game then they could be engaging in more positive activities. Perhaps they could spend the time designing their own game, thus giving others the opportunity to heap scathing criticism upon them.

#10 hunter.....

If a store opened up near you that gave away free dog poop,
I bet you'd defend it with your dying breath that because it's free, no-one should complain.....

right?

These comments sections are here for a reason.
and by god when something is a piece of crap, we're going to say " hey, this is a piece of crap"

also, I'm not buying the whole " this isn;t a rip-off" of legit software thing.
why in god's name would a program author, tear apart his/her software, and make it less functional and harder to control?

B.S. I say lol

the last two versions of this game offered here have been complete crap.
[ would the author have taken away the "restart" feature to promote his/her game?]
I think not.

I'm thinking that the game giveaway project might be at the end of it's rope here.
Sad to say, but true.
Crash your computer of the day might be a better name for it now
or
programming 101 and get some guinea pigs to test it
those might be good names

How about raising the bar a bit on who you accept software from?
How about thinking about " how's this going to affect our users machines"?
how about some quality, even if it's just one offering a month?

Both of my youngest grandsons(4 and 3) love the Monster Truck games. I downloaded the original offer on my computer and they fight over who's playing it first when they visit so I set up an old computer just for them to put games on. I put internet access on it just so I could load games like this for them. My 3 year old grandson actually was able to jump the exploding barrels by using the space bar to make him jump. It seems the kids can figure this out easier than us sometimes.

As for all the whining, get over it. I have been coming to this site for several years now and appreciate all they offer when they offer. If I don't like a game offered, I just wait on another. I have received several great games over the years and really enjoy reading the reviews by all who leave them. Whiterabbit is very thorough in his reviews and tells it like it is.

I am only downloading this because the one last week didn't work? Does anyone know why, or had the same problem.

……......One persons rubbish is another’s gold..............

As for the choice of games we are given, that’s not the giveaway teams fault. They are trying their best to get decent games, but in the present economic climate, it's really hard to find developers and distributors willing to allow thousands of their games to be downloaded virtually for free; (the team do pay an undisclosed amount of money for them). We do get the occasional gems, and for that reason alone I think it's worth checking out this site evey weekend. :)

Thankfully I don't rely on this site to provid me with the games I really want. For those I use my PayPal account. :)

have a pleasant Sunday folks.

p.s.

The Giveawayoftheday Steam groups Half Life 2 - Deathmatch was a lot of fun earlier this morning. You can see our Steam page where we announce upcoming games via the following link:

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/giveawayoftheday/events/54192007695332374?

The Giveawayofteday Steam group is meant to give community members the opportunity to play online games in a friendly environment. We are going to run another short game (for 2 or 3 hours later today - sometime between 4 and 5pm GMT till later).

Next Saturday is an Unreal Tournament day (our first one), and we will be having more Left 4 Dead games soon. If there’s any games you want to play just let us know and we will try and accommodate you. Check the forums nearer the time for details. All our servers are password protected so as to keep them friendly. There’s no flaming, and the games are held in a friendly environment, where newcomers (newbie’s) are treated with respect. You can find the password posted in the appropriate forum post. I hope more community member will join us. If you have a NVidia or an ATI graphics card you can get a free copy of Half Life 2 – Deathmatch and Half Life 2: Lost Coast via the Steam client, which is also free. If you need any help to set up an account, download the free games or for any other queries, please post over in the forums and I or one of the other Giveawayoftheday group members will try to help.

Why even ask what kind of games we want when you get back from vacation. They are so lame indeed, much less not a hint near anything I saw requested.
