HELLO FALCO -- can you fix the AI so this plays by the rules. I'll then give it another try. Thanks.

This is truly a crappy game, as you have to turn off all the animations and music and shadows and stuff to get it to work. Then when I selected a piece after several moves, it did not show me anywhere that I could move. So I finally selected a piece where I could jump backwards and it was NOT a king yet. I know for a fact that this is NOT the correct way to play checkers.
So a definite thumbs down for me and I have uninstalled it and removed all of it to the trash bin.

James,
Try turning off all the options you can, like animation, etc. That appears to be the only way it works for me.

I tried to download this program from the original website, but my NOD antivirus told me that this program is infected!!! So I don´t know if the Giveaway-Version is also infected? Who had the same experience?

For those saying the game crashes, run it under compatibility for Win 95. Works for me with those settings on Vista 32-bit

I've got to agree with you Russ, this really is a dull checkers game, or less politely a dumb game. I played it for about an hour to see if the A.I. coud beat me. I'm not the most switched on guy with all the opiates coursing through my veins, but it was way too easy to win all the time.

With a large improvment in the AI and maybe modes to include all the various forms of the game, this could be a really good game; as it stands at the moment it needs a lot more work before I'd consider buying it. I used to play draughts as a child with the rules allowing you not to take a piece if you so desired.

I'd love to see a good Chinese Chequers game, but if the AI is similar to this game it's not going to be much of a challenge. :(

This game has some crappy game play. I love checkers a lot! I was really hoping this thing would be a challenge.

I experienced the forced backwards movement... blew me away and pissed me off as I was just about to be 'kinged'.

There was also some crazy move where my King had to jump 3 spots to jump someone. If that wasn't enough, after I was forced to act like Superman with the checker piece, a piece from the computers side moved sideways 2 spots to take the place of the piece.

I feel like I am playing checkers with a 3 year old who makes their own rules as gameplay continues.

Avoid this at all costs!!! The rules are warped!

Hello all!

My first question: WHY are you all (nearly) PISSING ON that software without any valuable arguments?!

Ad. Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 64-bit version:
RTFM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
---CITATION---
Win 3.1x, Win95, Win98, WinME, WinNT 3.x, WinNT 4.x, WinXP, Windows2000, Windows2003
---END OF CITATION---
Is there any word similar to "Vista", "7" or "64-bit" ?!
If you have bougth such a system, then pay for software that runs on that system.
BTW: I have reverted from Vista-based Windows version to earlier version (XP-based). I have done that because Vista suc** with most of recent programs, games, screen-savers and even drivers.

Ad. Wrong size, wrong rules and similar.
In my childhood I have been playing in that game with friends. We have been using board from chess game as it has proper dimension. Moreover, each player must hit if only he can do that - otherwise he looses one or more figures.
Also when are you trying to break rules this program disallows this - this is a feature, not a disadvantage.
BTW. I have started playing without reading any of manuals listed above in the first post.

Ad. Wrong mouse pointing.
I haven't noticed any of it. Remember that you have to point on a checker and after that you should make a second click on the target area.
Maybe you are using wrong version of Vista? :-)

Ad. Slow thinking.
This may be a problem, bu please try to lover the level of difficulty or try pressing "Stop Thinking" button.

SUMMING UP:
This is a SIMPLE GAME, that uses 3D engine and a medium AI engine.

I have noticed that the AI is maybe too weak (I'm always winning on any level), but the game itself is ok. The other minor disadvantage is the autoscaling feature. I have an pivoted widescreen and when the game's window is maximisez then I can't see whole board.

The main advantage is a multiplayer mode. I haven't tested it yet, but it seems promising. The main advantage is a dialog box in which I can specify an IP addres and a port number.

I am giving A GREEN LIGHT for this game.

PS. I am not a developer of this game or any simmilar. I am only a user as you are.

PS2. I'm sorry for my English, but my primary language is other than English. Moreover I do not have any spellchecker enabled at this time.

With best wishes!

The pieces in this game do not follow normal moves, at least as I learned them. Although it might be a fun variation of checkers, you should be prepared for the following rules: All moves are made diagonally. All pieces must jump when possible, but backwards also. Only kings can move backwards, except when jumping. You do not have to complete multiple jumps. Kings can move any number of squares diagonally, (Flying King) and jump a piece several squares away. (In fact, they must jump). These options might be fun to turn on and off, but not as the only choice. It would help if they explained the moves that are allowed somewhere, but they don’t.

Besides these move variations, it is hard to move pieces that are close to the edge of the board. You must click on the inside edge of each piece, and also on the square you want to move to. (This problem also occurred with Falco Chess last week).

I do like the graphics though, and several options are provided so the user can make changes as they like.
I would keep this game if it allowed changes to the moves and style of play.

For those not interested in the game of the day, :( today's game @ Gamehouse is a neat little point & click with fun mini games to boot. It has hidden object, slider puzzles, object match and more. :) It's called Ancient Secrets, Quest for the Golden Key. I have been playing for about the last half hour but wanted to stop and tell everyone about it. Get it at:

It crashes for me on my desktop after just a few moves. I tried all kinds of settings and compatibility changes. No difference. Still crashes every time. Darn. It says you can play it in 2D mode, but I can't seem to find where to change to 2D to see if it will work without crashing. (I didn't bother trying it on my laptop... Vista 64.)

This game is trash. The same as last weeks Falco offering. I got an alert from Threatfire during the installation process. That is a first for me. Also it would not accept the key from the readme file. Luckily i use Rollback RX and reset my baseline before starting tonight. I reset to the baseline and eliminated this offering. My question is how many games from this developer do we have to endure?

Nope - the game I downloaded today does not follow any conventional rules

It's the wrong size.
Non-King pieces should not jump any direction.
Conventional checkers plays without mandatory jumps.
The Kings should not jump clear across the board in jumps like a bishop.

Crazy - I thought it froze. It was actually trying to force me to go backwards and would allow no other move. Glad I left their checkers game alone. Probably bogused the rules there to.

windows xp pro, dell xps 600, 2G ram,149 GB space,49 GB used space..
Downloaded Falco Checkers easily, opened fine, activated and registered no problems..tried to play a few games under easy, would not let me make any moves, pieces would not highlight, then when they did would not let me make my move where I wanted and pieces from the opponent seemed to be moving to wrong? cant explain this..then the game encountered a problem and closed..after this happened several times, I deleted,to me this is very frustrating,no so much the closing but unable to play the game pieces.. apparently my puter does not like this program and neither did I.. Thumbs down..
Thank you GOTD, I do appreciate the chance to try it anyway..

Thumbs-down for no Vista support. With Microsoft readying the release of Windows 7, there's absolutely no excuse for selling software that doesn't support Vista, which has been out for almost FOUR YEARS now. Even if you're still using XP, you need to ask yourself if you really want to run software from programmers who can't handle making their software run on the current standard OS.

@ Stryker - I'm not sure why you're saying that Checkers is played on a 10x10 board. Checkers and Chess both use the same playing field, an 8x8 board, so there's no foul here on that end. Just FYI.

@19: I have no idea what 'jeu de dames' is? The GGOTD today is CHECKERS or if you're in the UK like I am, DRAUGHTS. For as long as I can remember (over 50 years!), draughts IS played on an 8×8 board!

What's this 10×10 board game you're talking about?

Downloaded and installed fine, but piece selection and movement seems a dodgy. The piece highlights, and highlights the square it's going to move to, and then won't move. Took me five clicks to get it to go once, and other times pieces highlight but the game doesn't show them able to move ANYWHERE.

Real game is played on 10x10 squares field, why all these computer versions are only 8x8 squares ? This is not the real "jeu de dames", it looks like they use a chess game and modified it to create a ckeckers game...

Downloads and installs fine. Requires activation code to be manually entered.
Game looks ok and plays fine, with one important exception. The mouse pointer / click and selected piece/square do not always line up properly which became very frustrating, especially for edge pieces. I found myself clicking over and over again to select the piece I wanted. In the end I discovered I needed to click some pieces on particular edges or even on the naighbouring square.
I don't think I'll be keeping this one, sorry.

As per usual chess games, the UI sucks and is extremely difficult to beat at first, even at the easiest level. However, once you play some more games, it gets easier and easier, and about after a week, you upgrade to the next level. The process repeats again and after the first month, you get bored with the game and uninstall it. I and my friends experienced this a lot of already, but it doesn't seem so with todays game and also the one last week. Therefore, a thumbs up.

Downloaded fine.
The game plays somewhat strangely though. At one point the "computer" played a piece backwards - which I thought was against the rules!
When I (using the green playback icons at the top of the screen) tried to replay a move, I couldn't
Also the play online facility doesn't seem to work. The biggest gripe is that it's quite hard to highlight the piece you want to move.

I could be wrong about these in some way as I only had a quick look and one game, but first impressions suggest this is a bit pants.

So for me this is a waste of time! Thumbs down as Falco hasn't considered it's users!!!
