Thanks guys, though it's very suspicious 20 000 keys going in less than 6 hours, considering the Us are asleep when the game goes live, at least the east coast to the mountain time regions. Could someone have possibly hacked the site? Thanks for getting more.

Hi Stephen,
We've also had suspicions about that during the recent campaigns, but our tech team checked everything and all the requests turned out to be unique. We keep an eye on every giveaway with high activity. Thanks a lot for consideration.

Hi Roman

Please contact the giveaway team via the contact form. I've linked to it in my review, but you can also find in on the front page. You will need to provide some proof that you've completed the tasks, also, read my links to certain comments made by the giveaway team. If you've used other emails in the past, that is almost certain the reason you aren't getting anything with the email you are using now. The first email you used is the one you need to check even if you've since used a different email. unfortunately, if you''ve used a throwaway or spam email initially, that could be a problem as links and keys may very well be sent to that email.

Hi Folks

We are getting a massive amount of spam at the moment (over the last few weeks at least a thousand comments have been spammed). So please do not post one word or a few word comments, for example: where's my key, or okay or good game etc. If you like the game say why, if you think the game could be better tell the developer how or, if you don't like the game explain why and if possible what would help to make it a game you'd like. With respect to the keys being sent, I have no authority to send out keys. There is an automatic process, that should work if you follow the prompts correctly when applying for a key. I've posted some brief details in my review. Any comment that are not appropriate, and that includes complaints, will be sent to the spam bin as I cannot spend time checking to see if they are from a valid community member. I apologise for this, but unfortunately we do have a disgruntled community member who has been wasting his time in a very childish manner posting these spam comments throughout the day since he was admonished in this comments section several weeks ago. This is meant to be a comments section about the game being given away. I have for years now asked the community to post constructive comments about the game being given away. Those comments can be negative or positive so long as they are constructive. I've also allowed other comments through because I've wanted this to be a pleasant place to visit. So banter between members, complements and short stories have also been allowed. I see no harm in that, but if there is no meaning to the comment, or it is a complaint about how this site operates, or you think the game is rubbish or more expletive comments, those will be deleted. If you have complaints about the site or about the game, either post what you'd like to see in that game (the developer may take note), or for example you want to know why you have to use Facebook, Twitter, or a whole host of other reasons, please contact the giveaway team via the contact form that is accessible from the bottom of the front page or via THIS LINK.

If you are having problems or don't know how to apply for a Steam key, please read my review where I explain how to apply for a key. I will be posting screen captures over in the forums showing the various stages, but that wont be for several hours as I have been at this computer without a break dealing with this since 7.30am this morning, it's now approaching 4am. So i need a break. (an hour or two from now). If you have issues with your email for example because keys are sent to the first email you used to sign into the giveaway site to post comments and used a throwaway email previously . If you've used a false /throwaway email then that is where the key will be sent to. You may need to contact the giveaway team via THIS LINK to explain the situation and hopefully get it corrected. The giveaway team did post a comment a few weeks ago in the Beholder giveaway comments HERE explaining the situation (see comment number 10) . If asll of the keys have been taken you will see a message saying that Activation codes have ended. The giveaway team will endevour to get more keys from the developer so I would keep checking back, otherwise you may be disappointed. Personally I think this game is worth the effort. One of the better games to have been given away with a Steam key for a while IMO. The giveaway team cannot guarantee that they will be able to get more keys, but they will try.

If your problem is not knowing how to apply for a key please read my review for details. Also check back on previous giveaways where I've posted screen captures and a description of what to do to get your key plus I've replied to several community members comments explaining or linking to other comments on how to apply. When you are directed to the Steam log in page (via your internet browser) to log into your account. Once logged in, your browser will be redirected back to the giveawayoftheday, where you have to fill in your name and email (these may already be filled in if you haven't deleted the cookies for this site). Once activated an email will be sent to your account with the Steam key, which you then redeem via your Steam client. i.e. click on the Game button that's located along the top of the Steam client; then, from the drop down menu, select 'Activate a Product on Steam'. A product activation window appears. Follow the prompts to activate the game. Once completed the game will be permanently associated with your Steam account and can be uninstalled and reinstalled at your leisure on any computer you wish. You do have to authorize installations if installing to a new computer or via a new location.

Just to reiterate; If you've used more than one email to sign into the giveaway project, it is usually the first one that the key will be sent to. If you've previously used a false/throwaway email, then there may be a problem getting a key as that will be the email used. Please then contact the giveaway team rather than posting here as this is for comments s about the game. I've posted a link to the contact form HERE

BoneBone: Rise of the Deathlord

In Brief:

A Tower Defense game on the lines of Plants vs Zombies with a first person viewpoint. Retro style graphics

bonebone 001
bonebone 003
Suggestions:

Whether you like or dislike BoneBone: Rise of the Deathlord please give some feedback about your opinion of the game, for example, what you liked or disliked about the game, and how it could be improved from your point of view. If you don't like this genre at all, please explain why. What improvements would change your opinion? There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality?Giving such feedback instead of saying nothing or just saying this game is rubbish may bring more developers to the site, which could mean more and better games. Would you give away thousands of copies of a game (or extra content for a game) away to a community that complains all the time instead of giving useful feedback? It only takes a few moments of your time. This site could be transformed if only the community would be more forthcoming in their opinions of the games they are getting for free.

If you have a problem installing or activating or getting BoneBone: Rise of the Deathlord to work, please visit the problems section over in the Game Discussion forums, which I've now incorporated into the FAQ's thread, and which you can find HERE, or alternatively check the Steam forums HERE for comments about the game. Failing that contact Steam support HERE and present a ticket with your question/problem. Steam support takes upwards of three days to respond due to the large community (over 100 million active users).

How to get a key:

Open your browser to the Gamegiveaway page, click on the Green 'Proceed to download page' button. This opens up a second page; click on the Green button that says Download Now - BoneBone: Rise of the Deathlord. This opens up a third window that asks you to either share and download via Facebook or , this was added in the hope that those who use Facebook will pass on the details of the giveaway to their friends. The more community members we have the better chance we will attract more developers. Alternatively, if you don't have a Facebook account, or do not wish to share the giveaway with your friends, you can have a download link sent to your email address. In this case click on the email link that is located just below the large blue Facebook button. If you click on the email link it will open up another page where you input your email. Use the email you first used when you wanted to post comments. Using a new email may not work. If you've used a throwaway email previously, you may also have problems getting a key becasue the key may be sent to that email. Though I'm not totally certain of this yet. Once you've filled in your email click on the green button that says get link. This opens up a further window that tells you a download link has been sent to your email. Go open your email and look for an entry that is titled Giveaway of the Day Mailer. you should see a blue hyperlink download link. click on this and your browser will open another page back to the gamegiveawayoftheday where it says To get game key please authorize through Steam. Click on the Steam link. That opens your browser to the Steam log in page. On this page it has an information logo that says ''Note that game.giveawayoftheday.com is not affiliated with Steam or Valve''. If you've not logged into your Steam client via a browser before you will have to check your email for an authorization code once you've filled in your Steam log-in details and clicked on the green sign in button. This is just a security measure to protect your account from hackers. Once authorized (if required) you are again redirected back to the Gamegiveaway page where it says Thank you for your authorization, then it says Fill in the form below........ where you have to give your name and email. Remember, this must be the original email you used when you first commented. If you aren't sure you'll need to check all of your emails to see which email the key has been sent to. If there are no keys left you'll see message below the email and reCAPTCHA Activation codes ended. this means all 20 000 codes have already been distributed. The giveaway team will endevour to get more keys, but this can take time. I suggest you check back regularly to see if they have managed. I'm sure they will post a comment if they are unable to get more. Personally i think this game is well worth taking the trouble to get, however, if you've got less than $1.50/£1.11 to spare, you can get it via Steam, or try for the free key site I've linked to at the top of my review.

The Game:

Key Features:
An exciting and intuitive gameplay.

Great minimalist design.

The wave structure of the game.

Tactical gameplay.

A variety of enemies.

More than 800 types of weapons.

Adventure and endless game modes.

Army of the Dead is not easily give up!

The tower defense genre (TD) has become both increasingly crowded (almost 200 PC games via Steam and many more via the free flash sites for example HERE and HERE) and very popular in recent years due to their broad appeal and simple yet addictive game play. With so many competing titles and a limited scope for variation there’s bound to be similarities between certain titles, and BoneBone: Rise of the Deathlord is no exception. That said, there are only a couple of TD games that come to mind that are similar in structure to BoneBone: Rise of the Deathlord, for example the first Plants vs. Zombies game where successive waves of zombies attacked the home base in a linear fashion (as opposed to following a winding path. Te mayor difference between Plants vs. Zombies and BoneBone: Rise of the Deathlord is the graphic. BoneBone has very muted colors, being almost monochromatic in looks whereas Plants vs Zombies is very colorful. Also, the attack mode in BoneBone: Rise of the Deathlord is from a First Person viewpoint and the attacks are side scrolling from left to right. Plants and zombies, most of the attacks come from the defense objects and plants you set on the playing field.

bonebone 17 seller of goods
bonebone 18 level 17 lost
The developer has updated the game to include several languages i.e. English, Russian, German, French, Spanish Italian, Netherlands, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Swedish and Finnish. The control system is very intuitive and simple, i.e. to change your weapons use either 1, 2 or 3. there are 800 weapons to choose from, but all but one are locked at the beginning of the game. Of these there are three categories of weapon, 1 = Bow 2 = crossbow and 3 = gun. The Esc key toggles pause. To fire your weapon aim and press the Left mouse button. There are two modes, 'Adventure' and 'Endless'. You can change the music and sound volumes via the settings menu.

BoneBone is a basic tower defense game on the lines of Plants and Zombies where you get successive waves of zombies attacking your home base. It's not as diverse as Plants and Zombies with respect to different types of zombies attacking, but there are new types added as you progress, that are harder to kill, The store includes two area's one for the player, where you can upgrade your weapons and defenses. In the players store there are three types of weapon available i.e. Bow, Crossbow and Gun. . The crossbow and gun are locked at the beginning of the game, but as you progress these are unlocked. The base store includes up-gradable towers, defense walls, archers, tower guns and gunners. Most of these are locked at the beginning of the game. When they are unlocked a green buy button will appear under the defense selection. At the start of the game you can buy and upgrade the wall and on the second level you can buy archers to help protect your base. At the end of every five levels a merchant appears selling new weapons or base defenses.

The premise of the game is to protect your home from attacking zombies. You fire your weapon from a first person view point pointing your mouse cursor at the oncoming waves of zombies and firing using your left mouse button. After each level you earn cash which can be used to upgrade your weapon or buy better weapons if you have enough cash. for example, at the end of the first level I earned 400. and was able to upgrade my bow to be able to fire 2 arrows at a time. This enabled me to kill the oncoming zombies quicker. Each successive upgrade costs more to purchase. There is a bar indicator along the top of the playing field that shows you the health of your home base, when the health bar reaches zero the game ends. owever you can restart at the same level and try again.

19 - Steam achievement awards
20 - other achievements
It is refreshing however to see the developers supporting the game post-release with patches to fix glitches and address some of the difficulty issues, and adding more content such as the Adventure mode that was added recently. The developer is still actively updating this game. For the price I think that is extremely admirable and I hope the developer Vladis Fire is has a successful sale.

Overall I found BoneBone: Rise of the Deathlord a lot of fun to play. It was easy to pick up, had plenty of challenge and the upgrade sytem added enoguh new game play elements for me to continue playing this game. in fact it's becasue i was enjoying myself so much that this review was so late in being completed.

For those who love tower Defense games I would highly recommend this. It's not as well constructed as the what most TD fans consider the cream such as Kingdom Rush, Plants vs Zombies and my favorite TD game Defense Grid: The Awakening but it has enough originality and challenge that gamers looking for for something to play will enjoy this realtively challenging TD game..

Other Reviews, Videos and a Slideshow of images showing the How to Play pages:

You can see Steam community reviews of BoneBone: Rise of the Deathlord HERE, and if you want to see some game play, you can see some videos of game play HERE and HERE. You can also see a slideshow of all the screen captures I took while playing the game. I didn't take many while the zombies were attacking becasue each time I tried I lost my home. You can see the slideshow of 30 images HERE.

Conclusion:
Even at full price this is excellent value for money. Game play is challenging and with the upgrade system not too repetitive. This is the type of game easy to pick up but hard to put down and I highly recommend you get a key. If they run out try your luck over on the free key site I've linked to or buy it via Steam (it's only £1.11/$135 at the moment..

I've posted some brief details in my review which will appear here soon. Any comments that are not appropriate, and that includes complaints, will be sent to the spam bin as I cannot spend time checking to see if they are from a valid community member or answering them. have spent an inordinate amount of time responding to complaints over the last few years, time I'd much rather spend with my family. I apologise for this, but unfortunately we do have a disgruntled community member who has been wasting his time in a very childish manner posting these spam comments throughout the day since he was admonished in this comments section several weeks ago. This is meant to be a comments section about the game being given away and not about other things. I have for years now asked the community to post constructive comments about today's game, a request that considering the size of this community has been largely ignored, and which I have to say is a great pity because I do believe we would have been getting much better quality games and more of them by now if the community would have taken the time or the bother to post appropriate comments, which needn't have been long comments and could just have been bullet pointed idea etc. Sadly only 0.01 to 0.005% of the giveaway community bother to post at all and only a very tiny percentage of those are actually appropriate to the game (works out at 0.00005% of the giveaway population - putting that in perspective say there were 45 000 giveaway members download a game on a particular day that 0.00005% represents only two and a quarter members of that population of 45 thousand people. Sometimes the comment shave had a higher ratio sometimes lower, but on average over several years, that is the figure I calculated. (I used to teach maths). .. not to say no one here has commented appropriately becasue some of you have frequently and to those I pass on my heartfelt thanks. Comments can be negative or positive so long as they are constructive and about the game. I've also allowed other comments through because I've wanted this to be a pleasant place to visit. So banter between members, complements and short stories have also been allowed. I see no harm in that, but if there is no meaning to the comment, or it is a complaint about how this site operates, or you think the game is rubbish but don't say why or more expletive comments, those will be deleted.

If you are having problems or don't know how to apply for a Steam key, please read my review. I have explained the process and will be posting a pictorial tutorial in the forums later this evening (I need a break as I've been a this for over 9 hours now). If you've received a duplicate key, send proof to the giveaway team and/or to the developer. More keys may hopefully be added now that all 20 000 keys have been claimed

Lets be honest. Although every request will seem legit they aren't. I help by being a mod on a website where users giveaway steam games. every time this website goes their giveaway we have hundreds of giveaways of the game on our small website. I can imagine the larger ones. What would be nice is IF I could get someone from this site to give me 24 hours notice before a game goes live simply so I can block it from being given away. Would help my site nd after awhile this one as well because would be legit people instead of bots grabbing the games ;)

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

That's a very good idea. Do these people selling the keys have more than one key? The only way you can get more than one key is if you use multiple Steam accounts. The site won't let you have more than one key per account.

It's a good thing I don't want to download this as there are zero free licenses available. :( I'm surprised that this game has gone through so many keys. But, hey, that might just be me. ;)

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi jbdean, for those who like Tower Defense games, this is actually a really good game, especially considering the price. 20 000 licenses went in the first 6 hours and the new batch also went. I don't know how many there were in the second batch, but that does show this was a very popular game. I thought maybe there was something suspicious going on. someone suggested that the site may have been hacked. The giveaway team thought the same, but they checked and have said everything was above board. Not every game will be enjoyed by all. Hopefully something better will come up next week.

OKAY you know what? your site used to be one of my absolute favourites. easy to use, excellent selections, and nearly always reliably on-time. i don't really want to sign up for this Steam thing... but i did it, since i had to do so in order to download today's game.
it was unbelievably frustrating and time-consuming, and by the time i finally got the damn thing to work, there aren't any keys left. what the hell happened to "click for free download", clicking it, unzipping it, and installing immediately? tonight is not the first time by any means, that i've had a problem since you changed your site. there have been several weeks now where i have followed, to the letter, an incredibly annoying and complicated series of steps, including "completing tasks", and by the time i finally get to the last little ticked box, NOTHING HAPPENS.
i cannot be alone in this. 'game giveaway of the day" is no longer an accurate name for your site. it's become "if you're lucky enough for all the steps to work properly within the time limit there MIGHT be enough of this game to go around".
absolute.
letdown.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Claudia

I agree with you that this site used to be brilliant. Once click of the download button, unpack the zip file and install the game, and a game every day with no hoops to jump through. Sadly good times never last. Outside forces have been partly to blame for the way the giveawayoftheday operates now. They were the exception to the rule when they first started. No other site offered such a wide variety of free games with no added extra's. The only free games sites that existed back in 2006 when this site started were Gametop, FreeGamePick and MyPlayCity as well as several abandonware sites that had mainly old DOS games and early Win 3.0 and Win 95/98 games, but back then, the most any of them had on their books (apart from the abandonware sites) were around 40 or so games and most of those were already classed as freeware such as the first two GTA games or the first couple of elder scrolls games, or were really old games.

Then community members started to rip off the executable while the games were being installed (via the temp folder in the hidden AppData folder). They would then place them on peer to peer sites as well as post details of how to do it on loads of game sites and even posted you tube videos. That put off a lot of developers from giving the gamegiveawayoftheday more games because those games that went on those sites are as far as I know are still readily available for free. That's why the giveaway team ended up adding the Themida coded setup.gcd file that has caused a lot of problems for many community members. Unfortunately it was necessary otherwise we would have lost Playrix and Alawar as well.

Also back in 2008 when the giveaway team had to go from games every day to weekends only the gaming industry was going through major changes resulting in many developer going bankrupt, or being bought out by bigger concerns, for example the large AAA developer THQ went into liquidation at the end of 2011 and were the first of the big companies to add t their entire recent catalogue of games to an indie bundle. They made a couple of million dollars selling those bundles (over $400 worth of games for $5), but it wasn't enough to save them. Their last game called Red Faction Armageddon was meant to be a blockbuster, but it bombed and destroyed the company because no one was willing to pay AAA game prices for it. The same happened to the developer of the Bioshock series. Their last Bioshock title (Bioshock Infinite), which incidentally is a great game and well worth the full AAA asking price ended up being sold at a discount even before it was released. I bought it with a 50% discount plus you got to choose three other AAA games (that had been released the year previously) thrown in for free (I got Bioshock 2, Mafia II and Spec Ops The Line. plus later they gave a fourth AAA title and I got XCom 2. In total around £120 worth of games if you counted the release price).

With respect to arcade games Reflexive Arcade was purchased by Amazon after struggling with a massive reduction in revenue when arcade game prices dropped. I purchased over eighteen thousand dollars worth of games from Reflexive prior to 2008 (over 900 games - they helped with my pain management). When Amazon purchased them, they kept the activation servers open for 6 months then closed them down. This meant once you upgraded your computer you could no longer activate your games because the activation code was intimately tied to the cpu serial number. The price of arcade games dropped significantly in 2008 from $19.99 to $6 overnight. This saw many small developers disappear forever. Other sites started to give away free games and those that had already existed when the giveaway project started such as Gametop and MyPlayCity suddenly expanded their libraries from forty or so games to hundreds. MPC now have over over 1500 games on their books, This earns them a lot of money, some of the money is paid to the developers who are allowing MPC (and the other free games sites) to give away those games, but they do have a small price in that you risk having toolbars being installed etc and your browser always opens to the free game site when you close the game down. On top of that, when game prices fell drastically the indie bundle was born. At times you can purchase bundles with (as mentioned above with the THQ example) over $400 worth of games for as little as $5. With around 50 bundles available at any one time and as cheap as $1, the game giveaway team have found it very difficult to find developers willing to give away games and is possibly one reason they are now giving away Steam keys.

On top of all those changes, when you see the amount of whinging on this site, I'm sure it scares away a lot of developers. I've tried to explain this countless times over the last several years; asking the community to please post appropriate comments about the games being given away be they negative or positive. I've always believed if we had a decent number of comments about the game being given away every week, we would have a lot more good developers coming here because such feedback is very useful when creating games; instead, especially over the last nine months since the site changed (and we lost Alawar and Playrix - though that's not definite), every week the complaints have snowballed. It's now rare that we see any constructive comments about the games anymore, which is why I will be deleting a lot more comments after this week. I will still be allowing the banter that has always gone on as I think it's important for the site to have a personal touch; but many of the complaints unless they are specific to the game will be deleted from the comments section; instead I will be asking the community to direct their complaints to the giveaway team via the contact form which can be accessed via the giveawayofthedays front page. Whether this is the right thing to do I' m not sure, but i do believe if the comments section continues in the way it's been going for the past several months, things will never improve.

Also whether I'm actually the right person to moderate these comments is something else I'm beginning to question as I hold myself partly responsible for allowing things to get out of hand for so long. Another reason for this is that I've been doing this for almost 10 years now and have invested an inordinate amount of time on this site, for example I started gathering information for Sundays game i.e.BoneBone: Rise of the Deathlord on Saturday evening, then at about 7.30am Sunday morning I started to play the game and make notes for the review; with that and the moderation I didn't get away from the computer at all until 4.35pm. That's 9 hours and 5 minute, and still spent a couple more hours later moderating, and to be honest, there were no constructive comments made about this game. I've also noticed of late I've been getting negative votes for my reviews.

I did post a comment several months ago asking the community about deleting comments; the response was split, with some agreeing, whereas others quoting freedom of speech and saying all comments should be allowed. As some of those who believed in the latter were regulars I ended up not deleting any comments that realistically should have been; for example Swampy's comments. I let his silly comments go on for far too long. When i finally had to admonish him he started to be extremely rude and even mentioned death, and has since been spamming the site for over a month with well over a thousand stupid comments.

Personally I love Steam, and although when I was forced to install it back in 2009 after buying a couple of games from Direct to Drive (owned a the time by the IGN network) that I'd not realized required Steam to work, I was annoyed as I'd always avoided game clients up to then, but both game were excellent (Galactic Bowling and Defense Grid: The Awakening - which is still my most favorite tower defense game). However soon realized how good the client was for those who love games. I won't go into the whys and wherefores of the Steam client, suffice it to say it has a lot of functions and is brilliant for making friends who like to play the same games, plus the news section and the market as well as the constant sales (which is another reason the giveaway project has suffered over the last few years because there are always game sales on),to name just a few. I think the giveaway project has done a good thing getting developers to give away Steam keys. This has given us some unusual indie games instead of the usual HOG/Match Three or Time Management games.

With respect to creating a Steam account, I don't remember it being at all frustrating. It was just like signing up for any other account online, i.e. name, email and a password. That said, since i joined they have added a lot of security, but that is there to protect your account. Quite a few community members had their accounts hacked and items stolen from them a few years ago when exploits were found; for example, I have a few thousand pounds worth of games in my inventory and used to have hundreds of pounds worth of Steam items such as CS:GO operation tickets that were selling for upwards of £40 or more in the market, rare Team fortress 2 items as well as other stuff worth money. Plus I also have literally thousands of Steam trading cards. I've not bothered selling any since earlier this year because you now have to authenticate sales via the market by signing in with an android phone, which i don't own. If you don't sign in, market sales are kept on hold for 15 days, so selling cards became almost impossible because by the time the 15 days were up the price of the cards had dropped so i would have to remove them, then re submit them and wait another 15 days. The cards would have dropped price even further until it became pointless bothering as most Steam trading cards tend to eventually become virtually worthless. I made around £1500 selling Steam trading cards in just over a year. It's crazy what people are willing to pay for digital items. Thankfully my account was never hacked, but some people lost a lot of money because of it. Now it's almost impossible to hack a Steam account because signing in not only relies on your usual log in but if someone tries to log in from a different location they have to go through a series of verification processes which includes email verification.

Once you've created your account and installed the Steam client you need to make sure it's not set to the beta program, otherwise you'll find it frequently updating and can freeze a lot. To check to see if you have the beta version go to settings (click on where it says Steam and from the drop down menu select settings). The settings window should open up to the Account tab by default, but if it doesn't click on the account tab. Near the bottom of the account tab window there is a section called Beta Participation. Make sure that is unchecked. You can also ensure no account details are kept on your computer if you wish by checking the box near the bottom of the window, though I find it useful to keep this unchecked as it allows Steam to log in automatically. There's quite a lot you can do in the settings window, for example you can allow family and friends to use your account as well as a multitude of other things; i.e. you can set it so that your favorite window opens up. I always have Steam automatically opening at my library of games. I think by default the Steam client opens to the Store, but you can easily change that by opening the Interface tab and click on the favorite window button (down pointing arrow on the right of the main button. You'll see several selections such as Store, Library, Friends, News Servers etc. Going to the In Game tab, you can set it to take screen captures and specify the key you wish to use (usually F12)

Please excuse the lengthy and maybe sometime unrelated comments, I've always respected your opinion, so wanted to reply in a lengthy manner. Mainly about how people are finding it difficult to get games etc. , but instead i seem to have gone off piste so to speak. I hope you haven't taken offense at anything, if you have, it wasn't meant.

estou aguardando minha chave amigos, XDDD thanks

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

I click the green box and it just reloads the page essentially, no redirect or new tab opens to further the progress of acquisition. Still showed over 5300 keys left.

Hi Jon

Try using a different browser. also read my review to check that you are following the correct sequence.

Still having the same results going by your guidelines. No new page opens, no tabs, no other windows to proceed with. Not worth having to juggle around to other browsers that I don't have to get this. Oh well.

I don't know what to suggest. The giveaway team have given away over 20 000 keys and no one has reported this problem. Have you created a Steam account. When you click on the first Green button that you'll find on THIS page it takes you to THIS page. Not sure whether the next page will show as it may be specific to my IP address. When you click on the Green button from the latter link it should take you to a page that says ''To get game key, please authorize through Steam. HERE. You click on the orange colored Steam and it should then take you to the Steam log in page via your browser. i.e. HERE. When you click the green sign in button just under the password field on the Steam login page it will automatically take you back to the gamegiveawayoftheday page where you should need to fill in your name and email. Once done a key should be sent to your email. Though if you've used different emails in the past, it may be a problem. hope the above helps. don't know what else i can do to help.

This looks like a quite good Tower Defense game, however I'm passing on it because I already have several; I'm not finding the Graphics and style of gameplay appealing; and cos I figure leave it for others who will appreciate it more (btw, this is kind of like my rationale for turning down a second helping of Asparagus)
Thnk you for this offering.

What a shame, this site used to be such fun. I guess now I'll have to stay up untill 4-5am when the sites email gets posted in my time zone. Why can't we have verified members to keep other sites from coming over here and stealing the keys for the regular members of GGAOTD. Then again it must of been one of our members who posted that keys were available from here to other sites ruining it for us regulars who now can't get a key because they have all been swiped by those of other sites. Good work on making the day a dissapointed one for so many of our fellow users!

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Ron, It would be better if you didn't bother with the email and just visit the site as soon as you are able once the game goes live. Obviously depending on where you live it may be later in the day. We are lucky here in the UK as the game goes live at 8am in the morning. Whereas in the US Eastern sea board it's around 3am in the morning. . It's rare that we don't have a game a the weekend and more often now we are getting them on Fridays and even Mondays I think we even had one mid week a few weeks ago. All good news as far as I'm concerned. that said i have no issues with Steam games. in fact I prefer my games via Steam as I have a massive library of games running into well over 10 thousand games. (9.5K directly from Steam, plus you can add non Steam games to the Steam library and categorize all games, so I find it easy to find my games using the Steam library. Plus I get quick access to the Steam sore where games are always on sale. They even warn you of any game that is on your wish list that it is on sale.

We are still getting decent games, only the ground rules for downloading have changed. Unfortunately that is progress and is as a result of all the other things that have been going on such as other sites giving free games, indie game bundles with hundreds of dollars worth of games selling for a few dollars, as well as other reasons.

Another hour down the drain.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Skybase

That doesn't make any sense. 20 000 community members (assuming there has been no skulduggery going on) have managed to get this game. There is possibly something amiss with your system if you are not seeing what i've described in my review. I will be posting some screen captures over in the giveaway forums later. I've been sitting here at the computer since 7.30 this morning. it's now after 4pm writing the review, answering comments, sorting out spam and for the review playing the game. I really don't understand why you are not seeing the correct pages unless your browser is infected. I think you posted this before i posted my review. check the section that is entitled How to get a key, no instead I'll re post it here for you:

Go open your email and look for an entry that is titled Giveaway of the Day Mailer. you should see a blue hyperlink download link. click on that and your browser will open another page back to the gamegiveawayoftheday where it says To get game key please authorize through Steam.

By the time I posted the review all 20 000 keys had been hoovered up. whether this is becasue someone has hacked the site, or the fact that someone posted details of this giveaway on loads of gaming sites, where Steam keys are extremely popular or whether the game was so popular everyone has downloaded it. it is possible because we used to have upwards of 50 000 downloads of some Playrix games a few years ago.

sorry I cannot be of more help skybase.

This giveaway got spammed to a load of sites. 16 hours left on a giveaway that has nothing to give away? Dumb.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

That probably explains why the keys have gone so fast. The more sites that advertise this giveaway, the more people will come to get it. Steam games are very popular these days *despite the negativity about Steam here. over 100 million active uses cannot be wrong :) )

There were 20 000 keys just under 8 hours ago. I applied for a key once I'd finished my review (for my daughter as I bought the game directly from Steam but I missed out on a free key as well. I should have applied sooner. 20 000 keys is a massive number of keys for a developer to give away. Previous giveaways have only been 5000 keys and some have been left at the end of the day. The giveaway team only ask for an approximation of how many keys they think they will need based on an average of previous giveaways of this type. they cannot foresee how popular a game is going to be. The team will always ask for more keys and if they managed to get more they will be forthcoming at some point. It can take several hours for the developer to respond to their requests, so i suggest you keep checking back. Read my review for other ways to get this game..

It said 16 hours left so I did everything to get my free Steam key. Facebook and Steam authorization, only to find out that "Activation codes ended." This must be an error? Can you please send my BoneBone Steam key via Email? Thanks.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

According to one community member this giveaway was spammed to loads of other sites, which explains why 20 000 keys could go so fast. As I've already said, Steam games are now very popular, especially if they are being given away free. BoneBone is actually a very good TD game considering how cheap it is to buy at full price. I cannot send you a key just like that. you will have to keep checking back to see if the giveaway team have managed to get more keys. I was very surprised to see all the keys had gone. I also lost out i getting akey for my daughter. I already had the game becasue I purchased it via Steam back in June when it was first released.

Add me to the list of people who got activation codes ended. I did see that there were "0 licences available" above the download link, but after reading previous comments, gave it a shot anyway - since there was an indication of a high number of codes. By the time I went through the sign in, and came back here to comment, I see others also tried, and have now added comments. I must say, I'm rather disappointed - wonder if there are some people who come here and take limited games even if they aren't interested in the game, but just to be a "winner"?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Catlady, I was really shocked to see all 20 000 keys had been mopped up with only a third of the giveaway over. I think it may be because someone had posted details of this giveaway to loads of gaming sites. As Steam games are now very popular, they would have visited the site as soon as they saw free. Hopefully the giveaway team will secure more keys, but I cannot say for certain that they will. I would keep checking back regularity to see if they have managed to get more keys. Today's game is actually quite well made (with the free version of Unity) and despite its cheapness well worth getting (most of the really cheap game son Steam are trash, but this isn't one of them).

I'm sure someone from the team will post something soon. I reckon they will be just a surprised as i to see that all the keys had gone.

Hi,
I don't particularly care for all of these games requiring Steam keys, since my browser doesn't work anymore to get these keys. How about a 50-50 split of the downloadable (Playrix) games and Steam games?

By the way, is Steam client installable on VISTA?
Must the key be redeemed right away, or can you hold on to it to use at a later time?

Also, someone must have figured out how to hack your site to get keys.
If you started with 20,000 keys at 3 AM and all were gone by 9 AM; something must be really wrong here.
I myself saw it go from 299 keys left at 8:50 AM down to 0 keys at 9 AM.
What is that about??

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Rowena

Yes you can hold on to keys, though judging by the number who have been getting duplicate keys i wouldn't advise it. I don't know how duplicate keys are being distributed. something is amiss with that. With respect to being hacked, that is a possibility, but I don't know how the Steam distribution works. whether they are being given directly from the developers site or via the giveaways, though i suspect the latter as I did apply for a key for my daughter and it was received by the giveaway mailer. It could also be becasue someone has posted details of this giveaway to a lot of gaming sites. Steam games are extremely popular. I've applied for Steam keys for various games in the past only to find they have already gone within an hour of the offer being posted. We shall just have to hope the giveaway team can secure more keys, which they will try to do. It can take several hours though, so i would check back later to avoid disappointment. Personally i think this game is worth the effort. it may be one of the cheapest games on Steam, but it's better than some games I've paid £10 for.

BoneBone: Rise of the Deathlord
Just got the email, went through all of the steps, and when I tried to activate on Steam it told me "Duplicate Product Code" and "This code has already been used"!
This is why I usually pass these 'Steam offers' by, as they never seem to work for me. This is beyond frustrating, to do all the steps and then get nothing!

Hi JBurt

Please read my review and the other comment I posted. Both are at the top of the comments - or near the top (depending on whether the giveaway team have posted a comment about getting more keys). I've explained what you need to do to hopefully get a replacement key.

I was very surprised to see all of the keys had gone when i applied for one for my daughter. I'd already purchased one when the game was released in June of this year. My daughter showed interest while I was playing the game, so, thinking it would be safe to apply for a key once I'd posted the giveaway, when I did so about an hour ago i was shocked to find all had gone. in fact they went within the first six hours. Someone posted that over 200 went in the last 10 minutes. I do hope the site hasn't been hacked. it would be a great shame if some thief had stopped thousands of genuine users from getting this game. I reckon if that is the case the developer should have all the keys banned and re post the giveaway at a later date. all those who have already activated would have the game removed, but at least it would stop the thief from making a big profit.I'm going to keep my eyes open for anyone selling keys for this game just in case.

The developer has given away keys for this game via other outlets. Check my review for a link to one of those sites as keys are still available last time i looked a few hours ago. Otherwise you could also contact the developer and show him your proof that you have a duplicate key. He seems a decent sort and would probably give you a fresh key. Personally i think it's worth the effort. it's a good game, especially considering the price. The developer made it with the free version of Unity.

WR, Tried writing to the GGAOFTD contact us staff, never got a reply, looked all over for a way to contact the developer, couldn't find any, gave up, as it's just not worth it. It's to bad you get a 'Duplicate key' and 'code already used' msg when you've gone through steps to get the game. Just give up on the steam ones is what I have.

How to get a key ?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Riveroo

Please read my review and the other comment I posted. both are at the top of the comments - or near the top (depending on whether the giveaway team have posted a comment about getting more keys). I've explained what you need to do to get a key. The following was posted in my review earlier

Once authorized (if required) you are again redirected back to the Gamegiveaway page where it says Thankyou for your authorization, then it says Fill in the form below........ where you have to give your name and email.

How can i get the key?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Gerardo

I will be posting details with my review. I'm still playing the game, so the review won't be ready for at least another hour or two. Please check back in a few hours. there are (or were 20 000 keys, so should be safe to wait a few hours. in the mean time check back on previous giveaways where I've posted screen captures and a description of what to do to get your key. The key will be sent to your email. If you've used more than one email to sign into the giveaway project, it is usually the first one that the key will be sent to. If you've previously used a false/throwaway email, then there may be a problem getting a key as that will be the email used.
