Not enough levels or fish tanks to warrant purchasing. Enjoyable time-waster but not challenging enough at higher levels.

I like the more realistic tanks and the absence of "equipment" taking up space, e.g. lights. Match 3 is distracting and easily played for short periods. I hope there's a larger variety of tanks, too.

I already had 2 different versions of Fishdom, and enjoy playing both of them. I am 73 years old, and games like these keep my mind active.
After downloading this one, it opened on level 164, where I was on the previous version that I had from several months ago. It seems to load faster than before, and although I have only tried it once so far, it seems like it performs everything faster than before. So this is a real "Keeper" for me.

Hi!
Had it before the crash and enjoyed it! Just uploaded this. It doesn't look any different so far. Uploaded easy and plays well. I remember it took a lot of memory in the past and graphics wouldn't show well often. I'm hoping with newer computer it will run better too.
Thanks for a great giveaway!!!

This is my favorite Match-3 game. I play this one when I'm upset, and something about making the patterns calms me down. It's hard enough to engage me but easy enough that I can play it when I'm sleepy or sick, and since I have a chronic illness and am ill much of the time, I really appreciate having a game that isn't too hard for me to play when I'm impaired. (When I start losing at Fishdom, it's time to go to bed. :-D)

I also like the bright colors, the bombs and lightning, and the fact that I can play indefinitely. I've played more than three thousand levels of Fishdom since acquiring the game (I bought it years ago), and it's the one game I play every single day.

I think with Big Fish, (and it probably holds true for Playrix since a lot of their games are offered through Big Fish), that if it has a screensaver, then it is a "Premium" version. Whatever. I love all Fishdom in all of its guises. Thanks!

I do not have the premium version (or there is nothing that identifies it as such)but the version I have is one of my all-time favourite giveaways. The game does not seem to end - I am on to level 6308 and no sign of finishing (obviously I did not just download this today!). There are no lives to be lost, so when you fail a level you just start it again. The graphics are cheerful and colourful and this is a game you can play one or two levels whilst waiting for something else to load. A very addictive game if you are not careful. Highly recommended!

I don't recognise the last screenshot in the review - is that in the premium version rather than the one I have?

I think offering the original Fishdom during the last few days of the year is a fine idea. If I remember correctly, this was the game that introduced me to match-3, and while I like some of the upgrades that Fishdom 2 included, I see no reason NOT to download this again (for free thanks to Playrix and GGOTD) as it does offer some different items and tanks. I don't have the rest of the series (other than H2O, which is not a match-3), but someday I hope I do, if it pleases Playrix to offer them to us via GGOTD. The attitude I bring to a series like this is to expect less of earlier entries and enjoy what they do have. And once having gone through the levels to get the gold cups and access all the extras, what's embarrassing or wrong about selling back some of the clutter in the tank (per above comment)? IMHO, the only people who would not want this game are those who do not like match-3 or aquariums.

What would I suggest to Playrix for future Fishdoms? Instead of just being able to flip an item with right-click, can we rotate to any angle? Can we enlarge the area of the tank which we can decorate? I would like the animated fish to be closer in look to the real thing (see Fishdom 2's fishapedia to compare with real fish). Another aspect of Fishdom 2 which I like is the bonuses -- but maybe offer a lot more options, like decorations which are not available by shopping (I've played so many levels that all I get now are money bonuses, which is boring) and maybe we could choose between two options for our bonus.

Wishing everyone, especially you Stephen, a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

Cara

I've been playing "Fishdom - Frosty Splash" for about a year now and it has an option of "relaxed mode" for us old timers. I'm on level 815.
Please, please Playrix put this option in all your games. Thank you.

I've got several of the Fishdom games already, courtesy of GGOTD, but somehow I had missed out on this one - so thanks!

I find them pleasant and relaxing when I only need to take a few minutes out of my work time. As with all the Playrix Games I've tried, they are bright, clear, cheerful and interesting without overtaxing the old brain cell.

The music can get a bit boring, but that doesn't matter a lot to me because my sound is usually turned off anyway. I'm currently on a laptop with Windows H8 in, to be replaced by Windows 7 as soon as possible. But this game works in both.

So - thank you to Playrix, to GGOTD, and of course - to Whiterabbit! Happy New Year to all when it comes.

FISHDOM IS THE BEST GAME IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF GAMES AND HISTORY!

Tingles all over every time I see a Fishdom game offered for free free free!

I actually think that $19.95 is way too cheap for this game. That is kind of like buying the Hope diamond for the price of a cubic zirconia.

Now the dirty, Fishdom 2 is better. BUT that's like comparing filet mignon to tenderloin.

Download the game! Download it to every single computer you have - even the 15 year old one that you have in the back of the closet! Call your relatives and friend and neighbors and tell them to download this game.

Why! Even call your worst enemy and tell him about this game! He might not be your enemy anymore. You might fall in love, get married, and live happily ever after playing Fishdom in the bedroom!

Fishdom! FISHDOM!

You da man, White Rabbit! You da man!

This needs rewriting: "There has never been a game giveaway (The owners know that allowing such things would compromise their business, so they make sure all software given away via the giveaway and gamegiveaway sites are thoroughly checked for all types of malware before allowing community members to download any files."
There's no closing parentheses, and it says only that there's never been a giveaway. Something got lost I think!
:)
Happy New Year to all.

White Rabbit - off topic, but you do know you shouldn't have to format and reinstall with Windows 8, yes? There's functionality built-in to the OS which will either "refresh" your installation or do a complete reinstall without needing to format. Works like a charm, at least for me - you might give it a shot next time you're having issues.

................................Moderator comment......................

Thanks Guiseppe, I didn't know. Though I've formatted at least once a year (usually twice) for as long as I can remember (back to my old 286 computer that had a 40MB hard drive). Will have to check this new function out. Been rather lazy since installing Win 8.

Downloaded,Installed,Activated with no problems on my Win7x64 machine. Again, and this bears repeating, with any Playrix game you are GUARANTEED lovely graphics, well thought out play and consistently good quality. This, the first in the Fishdom series is no exception. As I've mentioned before, match 3 is not my favorite genre but I always have a few on my machine to pass the odd 30 minutes/hour time with. Recently reinstalled my O.S. so this is one I've been looking to have again. I COULD have gotten it from GameTop I guess but as match 3's are a lower priority for me I've been holding out and hoping for a repeat from GAOTD. My patience has been rewarded! Do yourself a favor if you like match 3's and snap this up. Only quibble I have with it, and its common to all the Fishdom series, is if you want to get all the awards/trophies etc. you have to fill the tank up overfull (imho) with things. Now I know that earning/spending the money you get for finishing a map gives you a "reason" for playing but....... Isn't the real reason you're playing is because you like it? Anyway, once I've maxed out a tank or two, I'll just delete/sell all the extraneous (to me) things and look at the fish for awhile. (embarrassing admission) Anyway, the timer on these isn't a problem for me as it gives a little more .... urgency to finding a solution.Though I can see how some wouldn't want it/don't like it.

As an aside, I too LOVE the Internet Archives and have been a registered user there for many years. I mostly go for the movie's/video's and have just recently started looking at their software/game inventory.

Like most of what Playrix puts out, this is a good game!

It's fun, it's easily replayable and it's something everyone can enjoy. All of them in the Fishdom are great games (yeah, I own 'em all 'cause it's one of the good series from Playrix)! I run XP SP3 and it plays wonderfully without slowing down my system like some do. Easy to install, easy to run, no glitches.

The pros on this are;
Easily replayable without getting boring.
The music and sounds aren't annoying like on some.
It's fast paced without you having to wait to make matches.
It's fun to build your own aquarium.
It's good for everyone to play.

The cons are not many actually!
The big one for me is the limited aquarium space. You don't have much room to place things (that's remedied in later versions so it's only this one and the second for that).
The graphics aren't up to what is there for the later games, though they are pretty good.
The interaction with the fish and such isn't there like for the third.

And that's about all for cons. It's a good game!

Kind of amazed that white rabbit buys thousands of games! Seems like copyrights end in 75 years and a patient person just has to wait until then to get them free??? Good game though! Hope all had great Xmas! I just can't resist a decent game my friend. :D

I've downloaded quite a lot of the Deads concerts. They've been available for a few years now. I'm still looking through the abandonware sites as well. Unfortunately sites like Good old games are gaining the rights to many of these games so a lot of the better ones are no longer available for free.

Once again, this does NOT appear to be the Premium/Collectors Edition of the game. I have several Collectors Editions from Playrix, and the words "Collectors Edition" always appear on the screen that appears after the game loads and before you click "Start."

OTOH, the second-to-last screenshot in Rabbit's review doesn't look at all familiar to me, and I have all the Fishdoms (except Aquascapes, but it doesn't look like it's from there, either).

I do appreciate getting games for free, but I'd appreciate them even more if they were described accurately, or if someone knows how to convert them to the version they're supposed to be...

Playrix is one of my favorite software developers. I've never had a problem with any of their software, its not intrusive, you get the game and not a bunch of pop ups and redirects and the fishdom series of games has been great and has inspired me to buy other Playrix games.
Well done guys, good job.

Thanks for this offer again

installs and works without issues on Windows 8.1, and it's so much more fun playing with touch screen. The nice plus in this match three game is able to slide tiles during other combinations, so you do not have to wait till the previous combination is finished.

Only little issue is working with multiple screens, if from playing going to other screen, it repositions my windows! but not very annoying

Regards

File Download is misspelled it Saves as Palyrix Fishdom Premium

Thanks for this. I Love the Fishdom Game Series and look forward to seeing the updated files plus having a registered version of the game again. I would say Most of the Games I have Downloaded off of GGAOTD have stopped working for unknown reasons and reverted to trial software.

I think it may have been a overzealous cleaning program that might have destroyed the game registrations but I have no real way of knowing for sure unfortunately replacing the Registry with the Back ups has not helped in re-registering the games. The Majority of them remain as trial version only, instead of the Full game

Unfortunately we the Site users have no way of reinstalling broken software or re-registering software, so we are all sol when it comes to fixing games that have either broken or games that have reverted to trial only versions.

Which means I shall have to bite the bullet and uninstall about 20 games that are nothing but trial versions since they quit working a few weeks back. I hate that all of my favorite ones are the ones that are no longer registered.

All the games I like the least seem to work just fine go figure

Kicks Computer stupid broken piece of junk wish you would work right and let me play my favorite games again but no this piece of crap needs replacing. I can only hope I get enough work so I can afford to replace this very old PC.

Thanks Playrix for another shot of owning this great game. Thanks GGAOTD for making sure it is available for us all

Happy new-year GGAOTD users, staff, Mods and Game Developers.

May the rest of your year be blessed and may you all find good health, good wealth, good friends and happiness for next year.

Peace Hope Love & Prosperity to all

Hoppy New Year To all

Thank you for your feedback Rick. I install all of my game giveaways onto a different disc. I formatted my C: drive and reinstalled Windows 8 a few months ago. I checked the last version we were given and it was still registered. The only games that appear to be unregistered now are all my Alawar games that were given away, but I already have registration codes for most of those from either beta testing them previously for Alawar or purchasing them. I used to buy all of my games from Alawar until they changed their registration policy.

Thus far, this appears to be the same as 'regular' Fishdom. Is this 'premium' actually different in any way?

At any rate, thumbs up. This is an excellent game with great gameplay and five-star sound and vision as well.

...................................Moderator Comment......................................

Today's version is exactly the same as the last time this was given away July 2012. There is no evidence that this is the Premium version. I've not purchased any premium versions from Playrix, but I'm sure the premium versions have the suffix Premium attached to the main title page, which this version doesn't have.

Fishdom Premium:

In Brief:
Earn cash by creating matches of three or more to purchase various items such as plants, fish and fish tank toys your screensaver aquarium

fishdom5

fishdom009

Installation:

Fishdom was originally given away back in November 2010 then again April 2011 and last July. The downloaded zip file is 40.6MB in side nearly 3MB larger than the last time this was given away (37.8MB). The game unpacks to a dual activation and setup module a security module (setup.gcd) plus a read me.

The installed game is 47.7Mb in size which is the same size as the last time this was given away. There is no sign of a version number nor is there any evidence that this is the Premium edition of the game. The zip file unpacks to a read me and a wrapped setup file (the orange colored file with the key symbol), plus there’s a setup file with security (setup.gcd) that’s protected from being hacked (because the previous giveaway system was easily cracked). This file may cause some security software to alert the user to a possible malware attack, but it will be a false positive.
There has never been a game giveaway (The owners know that allowing such things would compromise their business, so they make sure all software given away via the giveaway and gamegiveaway sites are thoroughly checked for all types of malware before allowing community members to download any files.

Some community members have been having problems installing games since the security wrapper was added last year but you can work around it at your own risk by tuning off, your security software temporarily. This is not recommended but considering that there has never been a single game giveaway infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006, the risk is probably insignificant. The game giveaway team check all game giveaways for malware using several well known anti -malware suites; however, this doesn’t guarantee that future games are safe.

To register and install the game, click on the orange colored icon. The installed game requires 44.7MB of disk space and installs to the following path:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Playrix Entertainment\Fishdom 64 bit system
Or
C:\Program Files\Playrix Entertainment\Fishdom 32 bit System

Shortcuts are created and placed on the desktop and in the Start Menu/Programs list under Playrix Games. There is a second shortcut installed to the desktop that takes you to Playrix’s home site where you can find other titles in the Fishdom series; you can safely delete this second shortcut if you wish.

The Game:

Today’s game giveaway is a pleasant match three game with an upgradable screensaver that you transform from an empty fish tank to a fully stocked aquarium while playing the game. Gameplay is as you’d expect for a match three; basically you have to create matches of three or more to destroy tiles. The aim is to clear the gold colored tiles which are placed under the symbols. When you create matches on these gold colored tiles they are removed. Creating matches of five or six add explosives, rockets and bombs to the playing field. To activate these either create a match three that moves one of these power ups or double click on them to make them explode. You score points for every tile you remove. As you progress through the levels they get progressively harder, with different layouts and tiles that required unlocking or double matching to remove the gold tiles. I was only able to progress to about level 8 while checking this game as all I had was an hour demo. Taking screen captures (nearly 100) of the tutorial and various items that you can buy in the shop took up a large part of my hour. So I can’t say if there are any more surprises. At the end of a level once all the gold colored tiles are removed you are awarded money based on how many points you scored, the time it took to complete the level and the number of gold tiles you removed. This can then be spent on fish and other objects for your fish tank screensaver.

fishdom036

fishdom039

The screen saver tank starts as an empty tank. You can purchase fish for it via the shop , where you’ll find three tabs labelled Fish, Beauty and Comfort. For example clicking on the beauty tab you’ll find various plants, animals and other objects to make your tank look like a well stocked aquarium. All of the comfort items which include filters, feeders and air supplies can be upgraded; though each successive upgrade costs a lot more to purchase. There are several tropical fish you can choose from, each with its own characteristics, for example the Emperor Angel fish needs a varied diet in order to preserve their distinctive coloration, whereas Royal Gramma fish though shy will aggressively defend their territory in the tank. To create a good looking tank there are loads of items you can buy from various plant species such as Acetabularia Calyculus, Microsorium, and Myriophyllum Aquaticum amongst several others species, some sea organisms such as the Rapa Whelk and Starfish, to sunken ships, lamps, lighthouses and the traditional treasure chest amongst other items. All items purchased for the tank can be sold back to the shop so that you can choose other items. This makes for an excellent fish screensaver that is very much configurable to your tastes. To unlock new tanks you have to satisfy all of the criteria which can be found at the top right of the screensaver, that is you have to fill your tank with enough fish and create a beautiful and comfortable environment. Purchasing fish or other items from the shop will help to achieve these criteria. you can see what effect purchasing an item or fish makes to the indicator before you purchase it as the indicator bar moves to a new position when you hover your mouse over a particular object. when all three bars are at 100% you will be awarded a bronze cup. You can either unlock a new tank or go for a silver cup in the same tank. Opting for the silver cup reduces the bars to almost zero. to attain a gold cup you must carry out the process three times.

fishdom041

fishdom046

The screensaver is activated by ticking the checkbox via the main menu which also gives you access to the options menu and the start button. There are three different tank settings called Pirate Treasure, Coral Reef and Lost Atlantis, though the second and third tanks are locked at the beginning of the game. The options menu enables you to adjust the music and sound effects as well as toggle on or off full screen mode, a custom cursor, in game tips and hints.

Features:

• The virtual environment is interactive and fully customizable

• Almost 100 items and accessories to choose from

• Unlimited re-playability

• Create an award-winning aquarium of your dreams!

Conclusion:

This match three game play is really just standard fare compared to other match threes IMO; I’ve played many of this genre that have found much better game play; however what I really enjoyed about this game was earning money to upgrade the screensaver. I love fish screensavers and although it’s not the best fish screensaver I’ve seen (for example you can get something similar from other match three games such as Big Kahuna Reef and one of the Atlantis games), it does have loads of items that you can add to one of three tanks, though you need to earn cash by completing levels, and only one of the tanks is available at the start of the game.

I’d give this game 7 out of 10 for family fun and the addition of a configurable fish screensaver.

Thank you to Playrix and the game giveaway team for providing this game for free.

Suggestions:

I don't know what differences their are between the previous versions that we were given and today's Premium edition. I presume we get extra levels and maybe more items to add to the fish tanks.

The addition of the screensaver adds to the average game play, however I’d try and improve the game play by adding some mini games and more power ups to the game. You could also make the power ups upgradeable so that they become more powerful. These upgrades could be paid from some of the money earned to purchase items for the screensaver. I’d also add more species of plant life and enable those to be upgraded as well. Each upgrade could increase the size of the plant or animal that you purchase for the tank.

Don't forget you can get a whole raft of match three games from MyPlaycity, Jenkat Games and Gametop. Just Google them if you are interested. For those new to the game giveawayoftheday, the above free games sites do have the potential to install toolbars, change your home page, change your browser and they do open up your browser when you close the game, though this is totally innocuous. You can avoid all but the last effect by making sure you uncheck any checkboxes during installation; and, in the case of MPC every time you boot the games up. The games from the gamegiveawayoftheday avoid all of these issues.

A Request for helpl>:

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you've played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you’ve checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen
