Kind of fun but controlling the power of your shot is near impossible. Had to skip a couple of levels to finish it, and was much frustrated.

Yay! Our long (inter)national nightmare is over! WR's back! (If you non-yanks are puzzled, the quote - without the parenthesis part - is the infamous and ironic proclamation that President Gerald Ford made when he pardoned Richard Nixon).
I've been debating for several weeks on making a definitive statement about whether all these Wheemplay games are worth the attention or not. So I did some homework and stumbled on the reality of these games - why they are the way they are in terms of having often simple development and being priced so cheaply. From looking over the bulk of Wheemplay's website - they do have one despite GGOTD not linking to it - the following seems clear:
Like most of the companies that present games here, Wheemplay is primarily a publisher, not a developer. They've apparently attracted many flash game developers. That's why you see games running the gamut from what look like 20 level quickies with little re-playability, to award winners like Mechanism III, with intricate graphics and something like 80 levels. The reason: I believe Wheemplay's primary focus is portable devices. In other words, phones and tablets. They prominently mention the iPhone, iPad, etc... on the site, so these are just meant to be cheap phone downloads. "There's an app. for that", so to speak.
(IMHO, this tends to make me laugh, since most phone apps. people go gaga for are things you can just as easily do yourself on the web. Except that they usually pump you with their own propietary info., rather than giving you the whole picture. Sort of reminds us old computer folks of that absolutely essential internet service AOL. ROFL!!! Though that doesn' t necessarily apply to the games.)
In that case, I can be more tolerant, but it appears clear that Wheemplay's don't impress people here like other PC games because they're not meant to be in the same category. More importantly, you can play most of these at wheemplay.com (and probably bored.com - which looks like their flash platform service), since these are flash games, anyway. Today's game is not there, however. Maybe i'ts too new for Wheemplay or bored, but can be played on other sites.
I'd highly recommend folks to check them out first, because, IMHO, as PC Games go, it's hard to give the really simple ones with only 20 levels and without level editors much of a score. At best 5.5, for those that have good geometric sense and geometric memory, and no more than 6.5 for those who'll forget the solutions over a long period of time. Even if you're nuts for physics games, if you have any aptitude for it all, then you'll only play these once. Unless you ARE nuts for physics games, I can't see any reason to download the most limited of these. Today's game falls into that category, though I'll keep it until I finish it. I downloaded it to check since no one said anything about whether it had a level editor. We'll likely know in the future, since our font of all (or practically all) game wisdom - Whiterabbit - is back.

Also, if you press the hint button on today's game it will take you to a walk-through on You Tube that will show you how to play each level. However, that doesn't necessarily mean you'll find it easy to duplicate what you see. And if you're checking these out online be warned - I found the mouse response just different enough online that it won't give you quite the correct feel on some of these. They might seem harder than they are.

In summing up, some of the Wheemplay games, especially the ones with 30 or more levels or having level editors are probably worth the download. The rest, however, aren't meant to be engaging PC games. They're just meant to be quick time wasters for your phone, where you'll usually only play a few minutes at a time, anyway.

Thank you for your excellent feedback Watcher. They should include level editors with all of these games. The usual level count is rarely above 25, which really isn't enough IMO. There should be a lower limit cap of at least 50 levels to make this a viable game. Thankfully you can play all Wheemplay games online for free if you wish.

This has nothing to do with Angry Birds and shouldn't even mention it in the description. The gameplay is very primitive and not the least bit interesting.

I have just about nothing to say about this game. It has tune that isn`t really a tune, and a game that to me is really B O R I N G. It took me so long to get the stupid Birds head into the baskets, the aim just didn`t take it there very well. Thanks but no thanks. Thumbs down from me. Sorry.........

............................Moderator Comment...........................

As with most wheemplay games this is really just a time filler. Personally I had no problems getting heads into baskets. It's not just about the aim; you have to take account of how long you depress the mouse button. The longer you depress the greater the strength of the shot. As with all objects that travel over distance, they come under the influence of gravity. Not even a bullet travels in a straight line. Hopefull that will give you a clue as to how to aim to get perfect results. :)

Thanks for the offer, but I will stick with the original Birds. Basketbird is definitely not a keeper for me.

Downloaded and ran fine on Mac. Somewhat surprised at initial comments, completed first few levels quite easily. Once again limited appeal but fun for five minutes. As ever Mac version appreciated. Take care and be happy. :-)

and again it does not work on the mac.

It shows a black screen. Weirdly if you recize the screen, you get to see the current screen. Now you can click.. then resize again and see the next screen and so on and so on ... not a way to play the game.

A bit more digging brings up the following msg

mdm_flash_player[6808:707] Warning once: This application, or a library it uses, is using NSQuickDrawView, which has been deprecated. Apps should cease use of QuickDraw and move to Quartz.

Maybe one day soon we get to play them games on a mac again, would be nice.

It's just an ok game. It can be fun for the short term, but you may lose interest after awhile. Still, it is worth downloading it and giving it a chance. A sophisticated game it is not. But not all games are supposed to be. Give it a try.

BTW, I asked this question yesterday and got no response. I asked Stephen/Whiterabbit, why he wasn't doing his nice long reviews anymore? They were the best and you knew everything you needed too before you started playing. Can anyone enlighten me here? Thank you.

Despite some negative opinions, I downloaded the game, then tried a few levels. I liked it somewhat. But I can understand that some find it frustrating.

I almost never play this kind of game. And it can take you a lot of tries before you find the right angle !! However it is rewarding when you beat a level. Then I was pleasantly surprised to beat the 2 or 3 first levels almost easily.

Then, though Merlyne was lucky to be able to use the "hint" button... in my case, it did not show me anything, only paused the game. Regarding the sound, I had to adjust it via the Windows controller, as the game's "sound" button only allow you to switch it on or off, and that's it. One last thing, this is in window size only. But that's OK, and no big deal about it !

I played 4 levels only, so far... and stopped already, as I can't find out how to throw these cute little birds through the upper baskets.

All in all, this is a cute game. But if I play again, I guess I will spend not more than 15-20 minutes per sitting... unless I suddenly become more clever with these "physics" challenges ;-)

Installed A-OK on Vista Hm Prem., X64. I Am going to keep this game for a little while ... and a Thumbs Up!

As others have said the Game is Not very "Help" button it takes you to this YouTube guide
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs2hbAcis28
which makes it look like a breeze in the parkway ... NOT!!! LOL!

You definitely need to develop a Rhythm for this game since it was Stupid to me the way Key Combination must work for the Screwy Bird to get up into the Basket.

Nonetheless, Thanks to Wheemplay & GGOTD. G!:)

OK, granted. The arrow doesn't show you the arc that the bird will follow, and the power is a bit difficult to control, but this game isn't as bad as DAMyst makes it out to be.
I made it to level 5 without too much trouble, but levels 7 and 8 were pretty tough. I quit on level 8.
It just takes some perseverence and trial and error to get through the levels. I would give it a 6-7 for playability.

Downloaded and installed w/no problems in Vista Home 32, on my laptop. I find this game challenging and frustrating, which can be a good combination sometimes, especially for quick-pick-up-games like this; whether or not it's inviting for you probably depends a lot on how you react to this type of game - if you're looking for just a quick ro0und of two you won't be disappointed too much, but there's not much else here to keep you playing, besides learning how to aim. Also, it can become tedious quickly if you can't learn to shoot well quickly.

Although it's obviously not to be taken too seriously, it's a challenge to learn the art of launching items into such a trajectory that it can pass through a hoop, easy enough concept but hard to do in some situations, like when you miss and end up on the "wrong" side of the hoop that you need to pass through.

Like most Wheem games, it's kind of colorful but not cluttered, simple in concept yet hard to do, challenging too, but almost rewarding in small ways when you get the idea and start making points.

I do wish they had done a better job explaining some finer points about play - like a hint how to aim better, and maybe mentioning that the birds and hoops are to be matched by color, something I didn't notice until the second level, costing me a couple clicks and some points. Not that it's hard to figure out, but c'mon, would it be THAT hard to add some kind of intro to "trajectory aiming"???

Kind of a ho-hum game, nice enough, but IMHO only useful as a quick time waster when you don't want to get too involved in a game. Lacks repeat play value; lacks in reward and feedback areas - if you're like me you'll have to fire more than a few shots before really getting the hang of how to aim - an awkward exercise at best! No depth here, a "stocking stuffer" kind of game, nothing I'd want to keep.

Thanks GGOTD and Wheemplay, but doubt I'll keep it.
Just 5 out of 10 for me.

This is a nice game to play when you just have 5 minutes to spare. It is cute and a bit challenging at start, but when you get the hang of it, it gets easier. I can understand that it can be frustrating, but there is a hint button and it shows you how to do it. I am sorry to say but the Wheemplay games are good for one try and once you played every level, it is not interesting anymore for me. I hardly play them more than once. Still this one is fun to do, although not very captivating. I played 6 levels and now I will continue to play yesterday's game, which I like more. I might continue Basketbird later on or on another day. Anyway, thank you Wheemplay and GGotD for this game.

I got a bit further than DAMyst, reaching level 8, but that's where I gave up. There's very little control as the pointer reaches maximum strength in a second. I could probably have got further but there just wasn't any fun in attempting it. I think it's time Wheemplay changed their tactics as their little games used to very good, but the last few offerings have been nowhere near as addictive.

Oh, that was just horrible! It's the height of frustrating! It took me 5 minutes to get the stupid bird through the hoop because the angle you see isn't good enough to judge how to get the bird through. Anything that takes me 15 minutes to get through the first level on and repeated tries is sure to guarantee that it will make me want to scream later on. Honestly? I didn't get beyond the second level of the thing and got rid of it. Definitely a thumbs down from me. And not worth the download time. Perhaps if they give a better tutorial and a more illustrated angle it would be better and easier to judge what to do.
