In Arctic Quest, you set out to solve the puzzles, each of which takes the shape of an animal or other tropical wonder. As pieces of ice fall from the sky, you grab them with your mouse, rotate them and place them on a grid within the puzzle, filling in the shape and returning warmth to the island bit by bit. If the waters that surround your once balmy home fill up with unused ice, your quest will fail. Luckily, a small fire burns on your land, allowing you to melt surplus ice. You can also earn bonuses that grant you various powers, such as the ability to smash excess ice or paint in portions of the grid.

With a wave of his icy fingers, the Snow King unleashed a bitter frost on the tropical islands across Earth. Palm trees iced over, fish were frozen solid in the seas and birds could no longer take flight. Setting up a palace on the edge of this arctic wasteland, the Snow King's chilly spirit took pleasure in expanding his kingdom beyond the North Pole. To safeguard his empire, he built a chain of 60 puzzles meant to stop even the wisest sage from reaching his castle and breaking the spell.

I love this game, but it only gave me "one hour" of play. :(
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm new to this site, and need to know if there is a time line that we can play these games, or can we play forever!

Couldn't get this to activate. I've played similar games and they were fun. Turned off the firewall but it didn't make any difference.

# 11 alagirl No this is not a trial version. GAOTD AND GGAOTD do not give away trial versions, all of the offerings are full version if you install and activate them correctly. The Nov 4th date on the wik/download page refers to the file itself expires on thier site and can no longer be downloaded after that date.

I have win98 & dial-up.I figured I would try to download this one because I already have Arctic Quest 2.First I tryed to dowload from the mirror link.Downloaded in 29 min,Ha not 16.1MB on dial-up.Of course it was corrupted when I tryed to unzip.So I deleted it. Redownloaded it from the "Download Arctic Quest Now" button this time.It downloaded in 1Hour13Min.Unziped,activated,& installed fine.Plays fine although I just played a few minutes to make sure it installed so I could write this comment.

#13 - I made no compatibility settings for Vista. I just installed it OUTSIDE of Program Files and then turned off the "Hardware Acceleration". I had the same problem with Arctic Quest 2. It's slower than molasses in January with that turned on. It makes no sense but that's the way it is.

Yipee! Another Alawar game...after playing the Arctic Quest 2 version I'm actually giving this one a comment before even playing. I never get tired of tooting Alawar's horn, and really appreciate the addition of their hight quality games to this program. Thanks to GGOTD and three cheers for Alawar!

I actually own this game, but it's called Crystal Ice Quest and is put out by selectsoft publishing and casualarcade. I downloaded Arctic Quest 2 and found that it is the sequel to it, just as a different name. Gameplay is very enjoyable whatever the name, and is well worth the download. I didn't pay $19.95 for it, but $9.95 which is a more acceptable price for this type of game.

well I did discover I had artic quest 2 and this one is just artic quest , they are both good games and my daughter loves the quest 2 so I am sure this one ois a good one also . all alawar are good

It is like Tetris. The difference is that the pieces have to fill a shape and it is possible to destroy the shapes.
If enough shapes are not used, the game is over.

PC comment #1 this is not a repeat, but the first in the series, so if you enjoyed the second, the first should be a must have, just for all the extra levels. :)

The upgrade Arctic Quest 2 was given away earlier this month and was received very well. Today’s offering is the earlier release with basically the same game play minus a few of the extra's that were added, such as a branching storyline and some visual and audio effects. However, the game play is basically the same, so, if you enjoyed the last giveaway, you will probably like this also. It's odd that we got them the other way around, but hey, who cares.

I already had this one and was pleasantly surprised to see the upgrade.

This is a repeat and we downloaded it last time around. The news is that both myself (adult) and 16yo both still are working our way through the various levels. Its a simple arcade game but we've both really enjoyed it. Gets challenging towards the end.
