Workers Riot:
Worker-Riot-001
In Brief:
Workers Riot is a retro pixel art styled platform game with an energetic 1980's synth track (reminds me of one of the 1980's bands; I think the Pet Shop Boys).

Use your hammer to destroy the workers who drop coins when they die. Avoid the Y signs when they start to wobble; this gives you a warning that they are about to change into something lethal. Periodically they change to one of those underground mining machines coming to the surface. If you touch one while transformed it will kill you

I found the controls a little confusing initially, though the actual game play is reasonably challenging, at least to someone who doesn't enjoy most platform games. You can wall jump to gain higher ground. Kill all the workers on a level to proceed to the next level.

The three medic crosses at the top left of the screen appear to have no function. If a worker touches you more than twice you die and start from the beginning of the level. Money collected appears to be accumulative. However when leaving the game there's no option to continue. At least not if you don't complete a level. I didn't get past level one, so when I restarted the game only gives you the option to start a new game. After playing umpteen of this type of platformer with this mechanic, I doubt there is a score board to record the amount of gold you won from killing workers after you complete a level?

The top right of the screen indicates world one, so I presume each new level will give you a different world. Unfortunately after several attempts at trying to complete the first level, I gave up as I don't have the patience or the skill with this type of game to continue (plus I'm keen to return to one of my favourite games of the moment.)

Controls:
A or Left Arrow = Move Left
D or Right Arrow = Move Right
W or Z = Jump
Space, Shift or X = Use Hammer
Esc = Resume, Return to Main Menu or Exit
Up & Down Arrow Keys selects menu items
Note:
Use the arrow keys and enter for the main menu, however, when exiting the game using the Esc key you need to use the space bar to activate the selected menu item.

After selecting the options menu, you can use your mouse to activate any of the menu items i.e. you to toggle the 1980's style music and SFX's on or off as well as change the game to Russian. You can also change the default windowed mode to full screen, however, when restarting the game, all settings revert to the default settings and the mouse will be deactivated until you return to the options menu. .

Notes on Security
I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found zero hits from 62 antimalware engines. You can see the scan HERE

Whiterabbit-uk, Glad to see you are up to posting a nice overview of this game, and playing others you enjoy. Castlevania fans of the GBA/DS games especially, but really most everyone might like the new Elderand game that just came out today. These are sometimes more enjoyable to those that get frustrated with platformer games in general but like action. Lots of areas to explore metroidvania style with huge maps and about 5 hrs of gameplay. I prefer the ones free and on sale as you do, but always good to mention some others here and there. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1413660/Elderand/

Whiterabbit-uk, Even if I were a fan of platform games (like you, I'm no good at them LOL!), I'd pass on this one. I'm rarely comfortable with games where you are "actually" killing (or being violent to) people, as opposed to bashing robots or weird little creatures or whatever.

Call me old-fashioned if you like, but phrases like "Beat out of them everything they owe you for your work" leaves a nasty taste in my mouth.

DataDragon,

Thanks for the tip, will check that out.

Yes, Elderand is one I'll be getting at some point. It looks like a good candidate for the Humble Choice bundle, which I subscribe to, so will wait a while before buying it directly from Steam.

You work hard in construction, come to work on time, and do a good job only to find out the company tells you they can not pay you anymore...but then they give themselves a raise with your money! Ok I made up the story as there is none in the actual game, but WorkerRiot is a 2D platformer where you need to take revenge on your bosses for non-payment of debt to you. Of course if you had giant hands like in wreck-it-ralph you could demolish them easily and might be a fun game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wl2uM_KX_9g but no, here you have to use your trusty work hammer initially to get the job done defeating them all and beating out of them everything they owe you for your work you completed.

Its mostly played as a generic 2D platformer with slightly unintuitive controls compared to some recent platformers we've had given away recently, and no ability to save or resume... but no worries as its only around 20-30 minutes or so to the end. There is some flexibility built in however for the controls such as using the arrows instead of A and D which as a lefty I appreciate, while Z can jump and x or space can use your weapon without needing to use a keyboard remapping tool. You have to kill all the other workers, collect the money they leave along with boxes which also contain money, and avoid the machines that pop up where the Y signs are located.

By purchasing an improvement in the store at the end of levels, you will make your work easier - buy the gun asap or restore/increase your + health meter, add double jump etc. Its a bit challenging otherwise in gameplay mainly due to the controls, the fact that when you die you respawn without your improvement like the gun as well. So I know...many are saying Oh yes! another generic platformer with terrible controls and I was left with a bit more frustration than enjoyment due to the way it controls but some may find this type of platformer challenging and even enjoyable to some extent. Its just not like your typical mario, or alex gordon so if your hoping for that type of platformer you wont find that here.

Hey developer...
All in all it's just another brick in the wall.
