In Brief

Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures was originally giveaway here May 5th 2012 and received 50 comments and an 84% positive thumbs up out of 410 votes. you can read all of those comments HERE. It's the sequel to Turtix, which we received earlier this month (5th February). It's a side scrolling puzzle platformer suitable for all ages.
The installed game says it's Turtix: Rescue Adventures, but this is Turtix 2 (at least the same game as Big Fish purport to be Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures. I think Turtix: Rescue Adventures and Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures are the same game, they have just been labelled differently by different game houses. I've installed both and playing them, they are exactly the same, so I presume the 2 refers to the fact that Turtix: Rescue Adventures is the second in the Turtix themed games?

Suggestions:

Whether you like or dislike Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures please give some feedback about your opinion of today's game giveaway, for example, what you liked or disliked about the game, and how it could be improved from your point of view. If you don't like this genre at all, please explain why. What improvements would change your opinion? There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality? Giving such feedback instead of saying nothing or just saying this game is rubbish or good may bring more developers to the site, which could mean more and better games. Would you give away thousands of copies of a game (or extra content for a game) away to a community that complains all the time instead of giving useful feedback? It only takes a few moments of your time. This site could be transformed if only the community would be more forthcoming in their opinions of the games they are getting for free instead of complaining about the way this site has changed or that they don't like Steam games. If something isn't for you then move on to the next giveaway, or check out the extra's section at the end of this review; you never know, you may find something that interests you..

If you have a problem installing or activating or getting Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures to work please visit the problems section, which I've now incorporated into the FAQ's thread, and which you can find HERE

The Game:

You needn’t be familiar with the previous Turtix game or other platform-like puzzlers like Lemmings or Vikings to enjoy playing through Turtix – Rescue Adventures. Don’t be fooled by its cutesy graphics: this game will provide hours of head-scratching fun for those who like a challenge. Oddly, though, it’s missing some features we liked in the original game – but we’ll get to that in due time.

Turtix the bug-eyed turtle is back, and this time you’re asked to travel to three huge worlds – the Magic Forest, Underground Caves and Barren Desert – to rescue fellow students accidentally trapped in magical bubbles. But these hapless creatures will simply walk blindly to the exit of the multi-tiered level, so it’s up to you to preemptively protect them from harm before you set them free.

Therefore, you must shutdown traps and bypass prickly enemies before the student turtles can hurt themselves. You’ll accomplish this by activating switches, pushing crates onto dangerous spikes or taking out baddies by jumping on them. If you get hurt falling onto spikes or dropping off a ledge you’ll lose a valuable health point but if you find chests hidden on the levels you can gain some of that back (or be rewarded with other bonuses, such as an extra life or more time added to your clock for higher points). You’ll also collect stars and find secret areas to collect gems.

turtix 2 016

turtix 2 019

The player must also figure out how to reach hard-to-reach places, such as ledges that require a crate to jump on, buttons that open doors, underwater caverns, teleportation portals and a gorge you can only bypass by climbing on vines. The trick is to figure out which order is required or else you might have to restart the level and try a different path.

Speaking of which, some of the tasks you had to complete in a certain order didn’t make much sense. Specifically, early on in the game I had to push two crates over a spiky area before my little turtle buddies walked towards it. But if you choose to push the, say, left box onto the spikes instead of the right one first, the second box won’t fit for some reason, even though they’re identical. Instead you need to push the left box on first, followed by the right. If you do it in the wrong order the puzzle cannot be completed. This was frustrating.

Another minor beef: Gamers navigate around the various levels using a mouse, keyboard or mouse, but the it’s too bad the player can’t remap the keyboard commands; I found it awkward to press the Up arrow key to jump when I would’ve preferred the space bar as required in the first game.

turtix 2 021

turtix 2 024

Speaking of which, unlike Hollywood movies, casual game sequels are usually better than their predecessors because game designers add new features and fix issues. Oddly, Turtix: Rescue Adventures isn’t quite as good as the first game because of only one game mode (instead of two in the original), two levels of difficulty (opposed to three) and I preferred the closer “camera” in the first game to see all the great graphics with more detail.

That said, Turtix: Rescue Adventures is still a very fun and challenging puzzle game with 60 levels, dozens of secret areas, bonus levels and tougher “boss” creatures you must defeat by studying its pattern and attacking at the right moments. The game is also a refreshingly unique option for casual players bored with Match-3, hidden object and time management games.

Conclusion:

This is an excellent and very colorful platform game that's ideal for the family. There are slight differences from the original Turtix, that in my opinion take away from the game, for example there's only one mode and the game world has been set further away with respect to perspective compared to the original. This gives a feeling of being detached from the game (though that may just be me) whereas with the first Turtix game I felt I was right there in the action. Still, it's nothing major. The game play remains with the endearing character of Turtix.

Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures offers Increasingly challenging puzzles with more than More than 60 levels to complete. It also has cute and attractive graphics which the whole family will love especially the younger ones, though I'm sure adults will to. I used to play this with my kids when I purchased it from Reflexive Arcade when it was released over 8 years ago. Game play is well worth a good 8 out of 10 IMO.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank MyPlayCity for giving away Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures and also to the game giveaway team, as always, for securing other ways to get free games, in this case Steam keys.

The free game over on Origin is still the excellent atmospheric Sci Fi RPG third person Shooter Mass Effect 2, but it will probably be ending soon. If you've still not got a copy, get it now, it's well worth. It usually costs £19.99/$19.99 (though I paid the pre-order price of over £30 prior to it's release back in January 2010) . You can get it HERE. Please note that you do require the Origin game platform to be able to download and install the game.

Giveaway Team Contact and Moderation policy:

Continued from the first paragraph at the beginning of this review ........... I am posting this in light of the massive increase in negative comments not related to the game being given away, inappropriate comments and spam that have occurred over the past several months since the site was updated and in particular since the site started using Facebook, Twitter and Steam. Almost 700 spam comments were posted over a 24 hour period last month. This is a site that gives free games away, so it's quite shocking to see the number of negative and sometimes inappropriate comments being posted here, especially when they are not even related to the actual game that we receive. I always though getting something for free was a privilege/perk/treat/ and deserves at least some thanks or gratitude and cannot understand why we get so many negative comments that possibly turn away potential developers who would otherwise have given the project their games. Of course we have freedom of speech, but as mentioned in my review above, there are rules to posting in this comments section; even a free society requires rules and regulations to run properly, so please bear this in mind when posting a comment.

I believe if we get lots of decent feedback about the games we get here, more developers would be happy to give away their games. Seeing lots of complaints (and spam) instead of feedback about the giveaways will not persuade other developers to give their creations away for free, especially when they may have spent thousands of hours working on them. So please also consider this when posting your feedback. Any comment not about the game for example complaints, or if deemed unfriendly or inappropriate, will be deleted (usually with no explanation) or added to the spam folder, which automatically black lists the IP address you used. Although I have enjoyed responding to many of those comments in the past, I will no longer waste my time answering comments from community members who should have read the moderation policy.

Negative feedback about the games given away will always be welcomed because they can also be very constructive for developers, however, complaining about the way the site is operating or problems about downloading or installing the games or about Steam keys not received should be directed to the giveawayoftheday team via the contact form together with evidence of completed tasks, the name and email you used to enter the competition, or giveaway). You can find the contact form HERE; alternatively, if the problem is game related and it is late in the day, please also consider posting your issue in the forums where you may get a response from the community because I cannot moderate 24 hours a day. All games given away here have been thoroughly checked using several anti malware suites to ensure a safe download and in the 10 plus years this site has been operating, there has never been a game infected with malware. If your security software flags an issue, it's probably the Themida code that is used to protect the game from hackers or sometimes the non invasive adware that MPC games use. Themida code can also be used to hide malware, so some security software's will automatically block anything with Themida code, even if it's absolutely safe to install; also, other computer configurations (i.e. the way your computer is set up) may have blocked the installation. Often, such problems are related to your computers set up. i.e. your security may block the installation; for example, quite a few game giveaways I've installed have been blocked by my copy of Zemana AntiMalware. Also please read the moderation policy which can be found HERE and if you do have a problem please check the FAQ's thread HERE. Thank you for reading.

FREE game offer from the moderator in exchange for quality feedback:

There were some winners from last weeks game giveaways, which I mentioned in reply to their comments. I've already given a couple away so far, but I'm still waiting to hear from others.

I've posted a list of over 200 Steam games in the forums HERE and will be adding more as time permits over the coming weeks. It is quite an extensive list of games taken from the 10 000+ Steam keys I've collected over the last several years. All keys were either purchased by me, with a few received free for pre-ordering games on Steam, plus a few others for entering competitions and other offers). There will be a limited number of other keys available, such as Origin, uPlay and Desura keys as well as some DRM copies. Desura has recently been purchased following the original owners demise and should be up and running by the end of March. I will announce winner's from each giveaway the following week. If no announcement is made, it means no one posted feedback that qualified for a free game that week. If you have won a game, I will also post details in the thread I've created specifically for that purpose HERE. Once I've given a key away, the game and any comments by the winner will be removed from the list the following week. I will assume if you don't reply within a few weeks you aren't bothered about a key. Please post your preferences (list at least 3 games in order of preference over in the forums HERE. Thank you. Happy gaming.)

Depending on the quality of the feedback, I may choose to award games to more community members for each game given away, 'at my discretion'. The feedback must be about the game, and it must include a couple of paragraphs of feedback following the guidelines I've posted in the suggestions section of my review. i.e. your opinion of the game, what you liked and/or disliked plus suggestions for improvement. If you choose a game that is very cheap I may give you a second game; so, when choosing from the list I provide, please list more than one choice. If a game is chosen by more than one community member and only one key is available the key will go to the one I deem the most useful. I do have multiple keys for quite a lot of the games I've listed, so, don't be put off if you see someone else has chosen the game you want. I haven't indicated any of the games I have multiple keys for (though for example I do have several keys for the excellent Western themed AAA game Call of Juarez, which i picked up for free for purchasing several games via the Indie Gala store several months ago. spending a few dollars got me a copy of the game, so I made several separate purchases over a couple of days while the offer was still live.
I do own at least three community members a game from the previous giveaways that I posted several months ago. I'd totally forgotten about those. I do have a document with their names on, so they will get a game from the original list when I find the document (I'm extremely disorganized); or they can peruse the new list and choose something different. Just post a comment over in the forums in the appropriate thread. If you do post feedback with a view to getting one of the games and think you have covered the requirements, you don't have to do anything until I announce the winners the following week.
Please remember, this comments section is mainly for feedback about today's game giveaway. If you're not sure, read the moderation policy, which you can see HERE

Just a quick reminder to folks, lots of keyboard &/or mouse software allows re-mapping -- if you don't use it regularly it's easy to forget it's there.

Thank you for your feedback Mike. I agree, I was having problems jumping as I'm used to the space bar. Definitely being able to re map the key bindings would ba a big improvement. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Fun game but appears to have error in level 3. One turtle never goes in escape hole. One turtle falls past the path out of screen. One turtle doesn't drop to below level. It seems to stop between level and just walks back and forth in the rock.

No way to get past this.

Hi WR, wanted to say a BIG thanks to you, GGOTD, My Play City and Alawar. LOVE this game, I had played the first one and everything that I thought was missing seems to have showed up in the second version. Knowing how many secrets, being able to replay a section, etc.

I do really miss the double jump as I am not wild about the bouncy bubbles.

Also I have found a glitch in level 2, section 4. Once the crates are placed in the 2 places to turn off the electrical charges in the blue key area (you have to climb in between them and go up to do this). Sometimes the charge is no longer visible (it has the crate to turn it off in place above) BUT it still is sending a charge and kills the baby turtle. This does not happen all the time and it is the one to the left side where the blue key is needed.

LOVE the game and really appreciate it!

Turtix: Rescue Adventures is a platformer game genre suitable for all ages particularly kids. It consists of 63 levels with 3 different environments - land, ocean and desert. I praised the game because it was relaxing to play after you have worked hard during the day. Secretly, I will admit the game is addictive to play.

The mission of this game is for you to rescue baby turtles who were lost and bring them to safety. Characters-wise, you play as Turtix to rescue those little turtles. You start off with 3 health bars and if you managed to find the chest in the secret area, your level will be upgraded and thus your health too. I got up to 5 health bars.

The game can be easily scored in casual mode but in expert mode, although it takes a few tries, you can get gold medal easily. The only difference between the two modes are if you lose all your health bars, you need to restart from the beginning of the level in hard mode.

The game instructions and information are given generously and are very detailed because you are notified in a box when you approach particular enemies, rewards, secrets, turtles and obstructions. The game tells you the enemies weaknesses so that you do not need to wonder what and how to beat the enemy. You are also notified on the safety level of the baby turtles before you rescue them which can save you a lot of time from making a mistake from saving them too early.

For a challenge, you are actually racing against the clock. The faster you complete the level, the better is your score. Players can get either gold, silver and bronze medals. To achieve the score, you need to rescue all baby turtles, collects all the stars, find the secret areas and if you are quick, you will get the remainder bonus time added to the total score.

After playing about 10 levels, you will be introduced to bonus levels where you need to collect a certain number of stars to pass the level. Also, you need to beat the level bosses. To beat the bosses, you need to avoid the obstacles and jump on the bosses until their 3 health bars are reduced to 0.

The level designs are very straightforward although you need to execute the same movements to save the turtles in that particular level. For some, this might be repetitive. The environment is very colorful and nice to look at. It reminds me of the time when I played this kind of games when I was a kid. The music is relaxing too and not annoying.

Level navigation is pretty easy as well because an arrow will guide you on where the little turtles are located. The paths are very direct and it is not hard to find the secret area. Sometimes, you need boxes to help you access the area. You can zoom out the level either to move up, right, left or down to get an overview of where you need to go next.

Players are given an option to play using mouse, keyboard or joystick. I personally chose to play using the keyboard because I could control the speed of Turtix. I find it uncomfortable that I need to use UP arrow to jump instead of SPACE. But eventually, it makes sense because the SPACE bar is used to zoom out the area.

I have managed to finish until level 3-8 level (in other words, level 51) in hardcore, and an unexpected bug has ruined the game. The turtles that I have rescued will get stuck in the cliff after they fall. I was determined to finish the game and thus, I created another player account but the situation got worse. The bugs started to show in level 3 itself. I took the next step to uninstall the game and install it again via MyPlayCity but unfortunately, the data from the old game still exists as well as the bug.

Also, a minor thing that I found is that I could not keep up with the game motion if I move Turtix too quickly. The game looks fuzzy when it occurred. I am unsure if others felt the same way too.

Overall, this game is really fun, entertaining, relaxing and complete but due to the unknown bug that I have faced, I have to give this game 7 out of 10. I really wish I can complete the game but I guess I have to purchase it to finish. I hope that the developer will look into this matter and able to give an update in the future installments.

I am having the exact same problem as commentator # 20

"Here-s the problem- upon freeing all the baby turtles, the portal is gleaming, but I cannot enter it. Then I see inside of (or in front of) a cliff is a baby turtle running back and forth. This is not an area which was planned for turtles to be. He seems to be trapped but there is no way to get him out of there. So I cannot exit the game. I have not seen this glitch before. I see no compatibility problems"
Have tries looking on line for solutions but didn't find any.

It definitely sounds like an unusual bug. Reminds me of a breakout game I once played, where the ball started to bounce between thee or four objects and followed the same path and wouldn't come back to the bat, so each time it happened i had to close the game down and start again. It occurred several times before I ended up scrapping the game as I had better breakouts anyway. Sorry I can't help. It may be one of those bugs that only occurs if you do a certain series of actions. I can only suggest you start a new game and see if that resolves the issue. sorry I can't be of more help.

sherry pennington,
Thanks for the reply, I had re downloaded and installed again , then uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted numerous times before I had even gone to the comments to see if anyone else was having the same problem. I would would download again right from Play City but I don't know if it is safe to do so. Any other suggestions ???

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Sherry

Sorry for the late reply, I tend not to log into my Admin account much once the giveaway is over unless there has been a new giveaway; at least not during weekdays. I hope you got it installed and working in the end? The MyPlayCity (MPC) versions include non malicious adware, which is there so that the site can earn money to pay the developers who allow their games to be given away. So long as you uncheck the three check-boxes that are presented when you start the installation and the first window opens, the game is absolutely fine and basically the same as the one we were given at the weekend. The only difference's (apart from the check-boxes) is you usually get an advert for one of the online games MPC have in their library presenting itself in the loading window. Once the game is ready to play you get the usual game menu (and is free from adverts). Both the giveaway version and the MPC versions will still open your browser when you close the game down. This ensures that MPC earns money each time you play the game and also earns the developer money that he would otherwise not have earned. It's a great business model because all parties i.e. the community member, the middleman, in this case MPC and the developer all win. If you didn't manage to get the game installed please do let me know and I will try to think of some suggestion to help. Check the FAQ's thread HERE; you may find a fix that enables you to install the game.)

I downloaded the program three times and it will not install. I click on the setup.exe file, give permission for it to make changes to my computer, and then all I get is an activation confirmation. No installation dialog box, error messages or anything else. However, no program has been installed on my computer. Neat trick. I've spent too much time fiddling with this, and won't try a fourth time. Just wanted to report this in case whoever is responsibile for packaging these files can do it better next time. So I've given up my email address for nothing. Very disappointed.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Two Cents

Did you read any of the communities comments? Ther eis a common problem with giveaways due to the use of a Themida wrapper. The giveaway team were forced to use the wrapper to protect the giveaways after the community found ways of circumventing the original protection. What happened was some community members found a way to be able to install the giveaways any time they wished instead of the limited 24 hour period. not only that, they posted you tube videos showing the world how to do it. It soon became common knowledge and we started to lose developers, who quite rightly did not want to give games away only to find them on peer to peer sites. Unfortunately Themida wrappers can also be used to hid malware so a lot of security software will automatically block anything using themida. You have to either white list the giveaway files, reboot in safe mode or temporarily turn off your security. The giveaway team have been giving games away for 10 year and have never given away a game infected with malware.

Norton Autoprotect says: Dangerous

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hello C

Your security is detecting the Themida wrapper, which protects the giveaway executable. Themida can also be used to hide malware, so some security software will automatically block anything with Themida wrappers. The giveaway team have been giving games away for over 10 years and have never allowed a game infected with malware to be downloaded. What your security is giving you is a false positive. if the game was infected we would have received literally hundreds of comments from the community warning of malware. To install you need to either white list the giveaway files, reboot in safe mode with networking, then install the game, or temporarily turn off your security. The giveaway files are totally safe.

Shut Down Error- "Failed to set DeviceFormat!" upon trying to launch- what could be the problem please?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Sounds like a video failure. This is an old game so may have problems if you don't have updated video drivers. Download the latest drivers for your video card. You can find out what your video card is by opening up the drectX diagnostics panel. Type DXDiag in the search field to open it up, then check the display tab. you should see what video card you have. Then go to the manufacturers web site (usually ASUS/ATI or NVidia) and download the latest drivers for your card or graphics chip.

I cannot install this game, because Anti-virus popped up twice with trojan viruses.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi James

There is no Trojan. The game giveaway throughly check all games given away. they have been giving games away for over 10 years and have never given a game away that wa sinfected. If you read some of the other comments you will see that the game giveaway is protected by a Themida wrapper that stops the game from being hacked. The problem with Themida is that some security software think it's hiding malware becasue it has been used to do that, so they will block it. If the game really was infected we would have received many comments from the community, but as you see there are none. Xilolee has even posted his research, which shows the game is clean. To install you can either boot up your computer in safe mode with networking, white-list the giveaway files via your anti virus or temporarily turn it off while you install the game.

I wonder if GGOTD would consider adding the genre of the games near the top of the listing with the file size and other details. It would be such a big help to those of us who don't recognize the type of game by its name. I finally found today's type by searching online on other sites.

It shouldn't be much trouble to add it, I notice that today's iPhone giveaway clearly states in a prominent place that "The ultimate Western action RPG has arrived on iOS."

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Buster

I always post details of the genre in the ''In Brief'' comment at the beginning of my reviews just after the title plus I always quote the file size both the giveaway download and the final installation size. for example today I posted the following in the In Brief section:
It's a side scrolling puzzle platformer suitable for all ages.
and in the Installation section I posted the following:

Installation:

Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures downloads to a 33.7 MB zip file that unzips to three files, (a setup.gcd security wrapper, the set up file and a read me). Those with multiple hard drives are able to save games on any drive they wish. The newly installed game is 39.8 MB in size. The download size is usually posted in the panel just below the download button on the second page. That said, it wouldn't take much to add the genre on the front page.

Game is not working. Installation program can't run because "The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program."
I have downloaded this game three times (from different webbrowsers) and I'm still unable to install this game.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Majka, your security is blocking the installation due to the Themida code that is used to protect the game from hackers. You can either reboot your computer in safe mode with networking, then install, white list the giveaway files with your security or temporarily turn off your security until you've installed the game. The giveaway team have been giving away games for over 10 years and have never given away a game that contains malware, so it is safe to turn off your security temporarily as quite a few (including me) do when installing these giveaways.

Reply   |   Comment by Majka  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Majka, Turning off security don't change anything. I installed game from myplaycity site. I have 360 Total Security antivirus and I changed activity to disabled. I don't want turning off computer, go to safe mode to install simple game (once ok but it shouldn't be common process). Could you check 360 Total Security and write me if it is a problem? I think problem is elsewhere.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

The advise for turning off security is due to the Themida wrapper the giveaway team use. As you installed using the game directly from MPC then the advise is moot. You didn't make it clear that the you'd downloaded from MPC rather than the giveaway version. If you have an ad blocker that could have been the problem due to the adware that the MPC version hides. The adware is removed from the giveaway version, tohugh both versions still open up your browser to the MPC web site. This is done becasue every time you play the game, you earn MPC money, part of which goes to the developer to pay for allowing the game to be downloaded for free.

Try checking your event logs to see if there are any error messages that will shed light on the issue. the best time to check your event logs is immediately after attempting to install, otherwise you may find it difficult to find the appropriate logs. Failing that, please check the FAQ's thread HERE.

"You didn't make it clear that the you'd downloaded from MPC rather than the giveaway version." Because I couldn't install version from GAOTD - my first message with "The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program." error was after problems with installation GAOTD version, next I installed version from MPC and there was no problem.

First of all, a BIG THANK YOU to the web dev team from GGOTD/GOTD for adding anti-troll measures. It is actually a pleasant experience again to come onto this site and browse the comments without having to wade through the fsgdsdgfjshs comments.

Download and install: As I have no issues sharing giveaways from this site with my FB friends getting the download was not a problem. Installing it went fine as well and after deleting the 3 shortcuts to goodgame and MPC I was ready to play.

I love Turtix, he reminds me of Stoffel, a turtle from a children's series in my country I watched when I was just a little Mavadelo. Initially I had the "drifting" as wel, it proved that removing my xbox controller fixed this problem. This is NOT a problem with the game but a known xbox controller problem where drifting thumb sticks are a well known issue on PC.

For me, playing with the keyboard was the best way to play. Did a few levels and it is a nice basic platformer. collect stars, rescue little turtles, find secret areas. Graphics are ok, plays well, not really anything I can find that would keep me from playing this.

If you are looking for a nice platformer take it. 9/10 (I don't give 10/10 for any game)

Thanks so much for the game. I had it years ago and enjoyed it very much; I very much like this type of game. However, I found a problem early on (level 1-3) which I did not have in my previous install of the game. I don't know if it's because I'm now running win 10, and when I first ran the game I had vista. Here-s the problem- upon freeing all the baby turtles, the portal is gleaming, but I cannot enter it. Then I see inside of (or in front of) a cliff is a baby turtle running back and forth. This is not an area which was planned for turtles to be. He seems to be trapped but there is no way to get him out of there. So I cannot exit the game. I have not seen this glitch before. I see no compatibility problems (aside from my wireless mouse being WAY too sensitive and drifting this way and that) so I am using my keypad arrows with no problem. So I am stumped, literally and figuratively.

I've downloaded the game and activated it, but it's nowhere to be found, including the myplaycity directory. I've done it twice, and nothing. No shortcuts, zip. Where did it go? I didn't change anything in the install process.

Hi Paul

The games exe file is protected by Themida code, which is sometimes blocked by anti malware programs becasue it can also hide malware. try booting up in safe mode with networking then install the game. Or alternatively temporarily turn off your security and install. A third option would be to white list the giveaway files with your security. That should solve the issue.

I have this game from a previous giveaway. No problems with playing, mouse drift or anything. The full screen mode has a vertical black stripe on each side of the screen on a 16:9 monitor, so the game must have been released quite a while ago. But the graphics is good, steering even with a keyboard or a regular (non-gaming) mouse is possible (in casual mode at least). Nice platformer, even for those who aren't addicted to this genre.

Problems with this author is always installing so many shortcuts to various games/sites, ad during starting the game and website pop up on exit. I really wish GGOTD would either remove them or warn us before we install.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Harry

The desktop shortcuts are totally innocuous. they can be deleted with no effect on the game. with respect to your browser opening when the game closes down. The reason for this is because the MPC site earns cash when you visit their home page. Part of that cash goes to pay the developers who are allowing their games to be given away for free. all the game son the MyPlayCity (MPC) site are actually commercial games, that are sold via places like Big fish Games, Gamehouse and Amazon. The in game advert at the beginning while the game is installing is advertising one of their online games, which they are keen for people to playbecasue many of those free online game s do have micro transactions that can cost real money. a friend of mine used to play a lot of the games you get via Facebook. Over a period of a year he spent over £500 on micro transactions. Crazy, but easily done. for example i love train sims. I purchased Railworks via Steam when it was released in 2009 . I've also purchased at least 80% of the dlc available for that game. (I only buy them now when they are on sale). The total cost of all DLC forRailworks (now called TrainSimulator 2017) presently comes to over £3800 :)

Sweet music, adorable graphic style, fun goals

star ratings on scale of 1-5:
storyline 5
fun 5
visual/sound 5
challenge 5
overall 5

The goal of the game is to rescue a bunch of baby mage turtles. You essentially have to baby-proof the levels so the defenseless babies can safely pass through and return home.

I had a lot of fun playing this. Just seeing that it’s on offer today made me smile, as did looking through my game play screenshots.

The illustration style is adorable, and the music integrates well with the visuals. It’s all very cute.

I played several levels in Hardcore mode, which has perma-death. It got stressful quickly enough that I knew I wouldn’t want to play through that way, so I started over in Casual mode. If you lose a life, you pick up where you left off and are restored to full health. It would have been nice to be able to switch difficulties mid-stream.

There are some egregious typos at the beginning.* They didn’t bother me; I found them endearing. After a while, there don’t seem to be any more. (*Examples: The game installs to a directory called "Turtix Resque Andventure." When you launch it, Turtix is spelled "Turix" in the window title. Also an intro screen has "click" spelled "clik.")

As I played, I was increasingly impressed by the amount of information conveyed in the seemingly simplistic interface. You’re always shown generally what direction you need to go in, your own status and health and those of each baby, where the threats are coming from in some boss levels (e.g., via shadows on the ground), when explosions are about to happen, the pathways by which triggers open doors, a timer on power-ups, keys collected, bonus time, stars collected. There is no counter for the secrets collected until you return to the exit area, though you can usually go back and collect what you’ve missed.

I love it and don’t think I would change anything about the game.

Thank you, MyPlayCity and GGOTD for offering this!

What a coincidence! I'd so much enjoyed the Turtix game given away a couple of weeks ago that I downloaded this sequel from MyPlayCity just a few days ago! Fun casual game, good for taking little breaks. I especially appreciated that they have adjustable difficulty settings! For example, in this 'rescue' one on the easy setting your hero essentially has infinite lives letting you continue to progress through the game and enjoy the different settings and puzzles instead of having to restart from scene 1 each time you die. I also liked the way the sequel focuses much more on solving puzzles (rather like Lemmings, the point is to get the little turtles you rescue home safe by blocking off or destroying places and creatures that would endanger them) rather than pure agility and precision in leaping over/onto obstacles. Overall, a really fun game. Thanks, MPC!

I have downloaded many games from here and never had this problem before.

Thanks for all the effort you have put into this site. Great job.!!!

Hi Magoo

It's probably your security that is blocking the installation. I've explained the issue elsewhere. Try rebooting in safe mode with networking, or turn off your security temporarily until installed. that should fix the issue. If not, check the event logs via the event viewer.

We know this is also available via MPC. It was MPC that gave us the game, tohugh I was initially confused yesterday, when i couldn't find Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures. It wa sonly when I installed the Big fish version, then installed the MPC version that was given to the game giveaway project that I realized they were the same game.
The difference between the MPC and the gamegiveaway version is that the adware has been disabled. The files responsible for installing toolbars and changing your home page and provider have been removed from the games installer, so it's much safer to install than the MPC versions. Thanks for posting the link though.

The game installed just fine. Unfortunately it's unplayable. The moue has a severe downward drift. After I start the game and am at the main menu, if I move the mouse to the top of the screen (which is itself fairly difficult with the downward drift) and let go of the mouse, in 2 seconds it's back (on its own) at the bottom of the screen. This only happens inside the game. Outside the game, just in Windows or any other app (full screen or not) the mouse works fine.

Any suggestions?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Harry

I've had similar problems in the past. I fixed it by updating my mouse drivers (I use Razer mice). Check the FAQ's thread HERE; you may find a fix there? Also check the compatibility settings and see if changing those helps. The game is quite old now, so it could be an operating system plus conflicts with the way you have your computer configured. Maybe try changing the screen resolution, or try playing it in windowed mode. Finally make sure you have the latest graphics drivers for whichever graphics chip you use. You can find out which chip/card your computer has by typing DXDiag in the search firld. This should open up the direct X diagnostics panel. Click on the display Tab, where you can see the drivers you require. they are usually either AMD (formerly ATI) and NVidia, but could also be others such as Intel. Once you find out go to the manufacturers web site. They will have a section devoted to drivers. find that page then input the data they require (usually the graphic card details and the operating system. Once you've downloaded and installed the drivers, reboot then see if the issue is fixed. Oh yes, just remembered something else. Check the Event Logs immediately after typing to play the game. There may be error messages in the event logs, though it's probably not obvious what you need to see.

Just double-checked, this severe mouse drift does not happen with the Turtix game given away the beginning of this month.

Reply   |   Comment by Lee Perkins  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Ok, I semi-resolved my mouse drift issue. My setup is this: Microsoft Intellisense Optical USB mouse plugged into the back of the computer. Two USB ports on the front, one doesn't work. The one working one has my XBox One controller plugged into it (for playing Witcher 3 and other games).

After reinstalling mouse drivers with no success, I unplugged my Xbox One controller and plugged in a different mouse in the working front USB port (too much trouble to get to the back). Now with 2 mice plugged in I started the game and the mouse (both of them) worked perfectly. I unplugged the front mouse and the original one plugged into the back still worked. Great! I started to play the game and realized it (unlike the one from earlier this month) had support for "joystick". So I plugged my Xbox One controller back in... and the severe mouse drift started again! :(

Turns out it's the game controller making the mouse drift down. If I push up on the stick and let it go gently, the drift "mostly" stops. I tried recalibrating the game controller with no success. I tried playing with game controller and it's not bad, but when you end a level you use the game controller to move the mouse pointer to the continue button instead of changing the selected button directly and that's fairly inaccurate (sometimes mouse point just refuses to go down any further). Switching to the mouse between levels makes it much easier to continue to the next level, although adds a noticeable amount of "annoyance" factor to it.

For those wanting to use a controller, the buttons are (on an Xbox flavor controller):
Jump = A (bottom button)
Action = B (Right Button)
Look = X (Left Button)
Menu = Y (Top Button)

Although I Don't normally enjoy playing platform games and I normally avoid them I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised because I found it enjoyable to play. I found the controls easy to remember and use. The game play was very good. I have got to level 5 and will be keeping this game. Thank you MPC for offering the game today.

Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures a MPC game, and
The 2nd in the series with the 1st given away here just weeks ago(and the 1st is a really fun game once you get used to it) and this one continues in that theme, although they've taken out a mode and a couple settings for some reason.
Downloaded and installed well, although did get a slower download speed today, and didn't run into any problems or crashes yet. Although it did take a couple starts to get it working with my joystick (actually a cheap USB gamepad, that works well with these types of games) but it finally picked it up..something the first one got right away when I ran it.
Still a much more substance game than the childlike 'Turtle' theme would have you think at first sight, and some really tricky puzzles, make sure you try different ways of moving things, as it sometimes is picky about the order/side you move first etc.., also some bad bosses in this one, and I'm still on the lower levels!

Really enjoyed the first Turtix, and this one looks to be a keeper too, if you like arcade style side scrollers with some twists, definitely check this one out!
Thank you GGAOTD and MPC for these games as always!

After I created my profile I couldn't get out of that screen. I don't know if it's a screen resolution issue but I couldn't see any way to continue. I had to use Task Manager to get out of the game.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Terri

If you cannot see the add or apply buttons it is probably the resolution. Try playing in a window first. You can change to windowed mode by opening up options. Not sure if you need to create a profile first though.

I get a message saying the offer of this game is over.

No one else is reporting this Bella. Is your computer clock set correctly? If it's quite old, the motherboard battery may be dead or drained, which means the clock won;t work correctly. I don't know if a wrong time would affect the giveaway, but it's worth checking. Otherwise, try using a different browser

Hi Kim

Your security is most likely blocking the installation due to the Themida wrapper. read my other replies to this issue above. Thank you.

Hi everybody and Whiterabbit-UK. :-)

Preamble: I'm using Win10 home x64, DEP always on, UAC enabled with max level, custom scaling 150%, resolution 1920x1080, color depth 32bit, refresh rate 60Hz, Win10 Defender, Win10 firewall.

No problems detected after doing pre-scans and post-scans with Defender, SAS, MBAM2, EEK, GSAM.
No problems detected after I sent the package to virustotal, metadefender, jotti: links at the end of this post.
Virscan doesn't want to scan it (and by the way the package would be too big to scan for virscan).
Those webservices show the same false positives for GAOTD setup.exe found in last years: I won't repeat them.
No problems during game download, during its installation, at its startup and changing its options.

Thanks to the GAOTD team, in particular to Whiterabbit-UK!
Follow the white rabbit, guys!
Thanks for the game to Alawar entertainment, BigFishGames, MyPlayCity!

I've still got this great little game from the last giveaway. As I get older (fast heading towards my 7th decade) I tend to play more of the simpler, laid back games like this. So let's have more of them please! :)

I've ended up with 2 codes for Mailbird Pro. My son also entered the competition using one of my old emails and both of us won. I don't think it fair to have two so want to give one of them away. If you entered but didn't win, please post your request in the forums HERE. First come gets the key. (You'll need to have used a genuine email for your forum account as I will use that email to send you the code and download link for Mailbird Pro
