It's that time of the evening when I need to retire for the night. Please continue to post feedback. If you have problems installing the game, firstly please read my review below then the comments that I've answered. If you don't find any advise that helps, post over in the giveaway forums where the community will see your comment . Because of trolls, we've had to revert back to the old system where comments could not be seen by the community until moderated. However, if you post in the forums you may get a response from some community members. There are several very helpful members that are happy to take their time answering such queries. I will endevour to post replies before the giveaway is over in the morning. I usually get up before the giveaway ends in readiness for the next days giveaway, so will hopefully have time. Be sure to check back before the giveaway ends if you are able. The most common issue we have is with the Themida wrapper, which causes some security software to block the installation of the game. This is becasue Themida is also used to wrap malware, so as a precaution, your security may block the installation, but you may still get an automatic message saying the game has been activated. There are three ways around this, or four if you decided to install the MPC version, which you can get HERE. The first one is to white-list the wrapper by opening up your security and configuring it to allow the giveaway wrapper to be opened, or you can temporarily turn off your security while installing the game, or finally reboot your computer in safe mode with networking then install the game.
I've created a thread specifically for the community to post any issues HERE. you will require a forum account, which if you don't have one already, is easy and quick to create. you cannot post anything if you don't sign in.
There is another game related to Scepter of Ra, called Treasures of Ra, which you can download via MPC HERE. If you decide to download the game, do remember to uncheck the check boxes before allowing it to be installed otherwise you will find a toolbar for MPC in your browser and may even find your home page and browser provider have been changed to MPC's own brand. These can be reverted quite easily, but are a minor annoyance if you do end up with them
Good night all

Please only post comments about today's game giveaway; other comments either inappropriate, or not about today's game will be deleted at the moderator or administrators discretion; however a little light banter among community members and with the moderator to keep this a friendly place to visit is acceptable and welcomed. All comments not specifically about today's game giveaway will be judged by the moderator and if deemed not appropriate, will be deleted with no explanation. Please see the end of this review for further details about posting comments and links to the teams contact, moderation policy and the FAQ's thread, thank you.

Scepter of Ra

In Brief

Arrange stones on the field so that at least three of the same colored stones form a group. However, you don’t just place the stones on the board unlike the match three games that we are all familiar with, instead you fire them onto the playing arena via the edge of the playing field. Similar to Stones of Rome given away on New Years Eve, but more challenging.

Suggestions:

Whether you like or dislike Scepter of Ra please give some feedback about your opinion of todays game giveaway, for example, what you liked or disliked about the game, and how it could be improved from your point of view. If you don't like this genre at all, please explain why. What improvements would change your opinion? There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality? Giving such feedback instead of saying nothing or just saying this game is rubbish or good may bring more developers to the site, which could mean more and better games. Would you give away thousands of copies of a game (or extra content for a game) away to a community that complains all the time instead of giving useful feedback? It only takes a few moments of your time. This site could be transformed if only the community would be more forthcoming in their opinions of the games they are getting for free instead of complaining about the way this site has changed or that they don't like Steam games. If something isn't for you then move on to the next giveaway, or check out the extra's section at the end of this review; you never know, you may find something that interests you. p.s. there's also another similar game to Scepter of Ra called Treasures of Ra, which can be downloaded from MPC HERE

If you miss today's game giveaway you can always get the game via MyPlayCity 24/7 HERE, the difference between the two is that most of the adertising has been disabled in the giveaway version. You will still be directed to the MPC home page when you close the game down, but everything else for example the checkboxes that appear when you first install the game, have been disabled. The home page visit is necessary to keep the MPC site running, becasue part of the money they earn goes to the developers of the games that they give away free.. You can also buy the game from Big fish for £2.99?$2.99 HERE.

Installation:

Scepter of Ra downloads to a 24.1 MB zip file that unzips to four files, (a setup.gcd security wrapper, the set up file and a read me). Those with multiple hard drives are able to save games on any drive they wish. The newly installed game is 49.6 MB in size. The game installs to the following path by default, but can be changed by the user if you prefer:

C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPlayCity.com\Scepter of Ra

Four shortcuts are installed to the desktop. three of which can be safely deleted (Play Online Games, MyPlayCity Games and shortcuts to a free online game which vary each week). Also, if you don't like icons installed to the quick launch task bar, make sure you uncheck the box when the additional tasks window appears (after the Select Start Menu Folder window)

The Game:

Scepter of Ra is another Egyptian themed casual arcade game that may not be as accessible as other casual games because it has a steeper learning curve than some puzzle games of this type for example Stones of Rome; however, if you persevere, I promise you'll be rewarded with a decent puzzle game well worth keeping. The game offers three unique modes and varying difficulty levels. The core game-play works as follows.

You’re presented with a board that houses colored stones (with hieroglyphics on them), all laid out in a specific pattern. On the edges of the board are arrows, which indicate the direction you can fire additional stones at, with the goal of aligning at least three of the same-colored stones vertically or horizontally. By successfully matching these stones, it removes them from the board, you collect some points, and it clears the colored spot on the board itself; when all colors are removed, you advance to the next level.

scepter of Ra 009
scepter of Ra 010
Unless you’re playing the Relaxed mode, a timer also counts down as you play Scepter of Ra, so you must work fairly quickly to complete the puzzle.

Adding some strategy to the game, plays must discover how the stones act when fired, since they push existing stones over to the next spot on the grid upon contact, while others may bounce back to the edge of the screen if nothing is in its path. Plus, stones get “caught” on the ones already placed on the board, so you must think your shot through before firing. Similar to games like Zuma, if you don’t like the colored stone you’re about to fire, you can right mouse-click and toggle the next colored stone in the queue.

As you puzzle your way through lost Pyramid of the Pharaoh – totaling 150 increasingly challenging levels – power-ups and obstacles begin to appear such as blazing fireballs that help remove stones for you or glass-like blockers that need to be smashed before they can reach same-colored stones. Oh, and you can skip a level you might be having a hard time with, but it will cost you a life!

scepter of Ra 011
scepter of Ra 012
Aside from the game taking a while to figure out – and hey, it might just be me – there isn’t much to complain about with Scepter of Ra. That said, I don’t think it’s as accessible to novice or younger players as many other pick-up-and-play casual games, but a few minutes of play should add some clarity to your goal – and it does grow addictive. The Egyptian theme is also overdone in casual games, but the attractive background art and good music are an asset here.

If you’re a puzzle freak looking for a new challenge, you will enjoy clicking through Scepter of Ra, so be sure to download the free trial to give it a spin.

Conclusion:

Scepter of Ra is a challenging and stimulating arcade game with unique features, loads of levels and power ups to help you along the way. There is a steep learning curve that may put some off, but I highly recommend you persevere and play through as many levels as you can until the ralization you've clicked. There game will no longer be perplexing and frustrating then. :)

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank MyPlayCity for giving away Scepter of Ra and also to the game giveaway team, as always, for securing other ways to get free games.

Useful Information not related to today's game giveaway:

The problems section that used to be posted here in the Game review is now included in the Game Discussion FAQ's thread; which you can find HERE.

I've updated the games section that used to be posted with the review. The thread is now called 'Weekly round up of game deals', formerly the games section of the weekly reviews. You can find the new thread (which I've posted in the sticky section of the game discussion forums to make it easier to find if you are perusing the game discussion forums) HERE.

If today's game giveaway 'Scepter of Ra' didn't appeal, you may find other games either free or for less than the price of a cup of coffee via the 'Weekly Roundup of Game Deals' thread which I've posted a link to above, or HERE.
The free game over on Origin is still the excellent atmospheric Sci Fi RPG third person Shooter Mass Effect 2, but it will probably be ending soon. If you've still not got a copy, get it now, it's well worth. It usually costs £19.99/$19.99 (though I paid the pre-order price of over £30 prior to it's release back in January 2010) . You can get it HERE. Please note that you do require the Origin game platform to be able to download and install the game.

You will also find lots of deals over on Green Man Gaming and Big Fish Games usually have 70% off the first game you buy from them, plus they also have other deals occasionally. Desura was purchased from Bad Ju Ju games last year by One Play. If you already have a Desura account you can read details of what is happening HERE. As yet you can't access games you previously purchased via Desura (I have around 1400), but One Play are working to recover everyone's accounts and hope to do so by the end of March 2017. Indie Royale will also resume on a weekly basis, though at this time I don't know if previous Indie Royale Greenlight bundles will be honoured? Alawar, Gamehouse and Playrix entertainment have free games available (usually online versions) and other game houses such as the AAA distributors Ubisoft and Origin always have some games on sale. I've updated the Weekly roundup of game deals HERE to include a large list of other sites where you can find games on sale ( e.g. Origin, uPlay, GreenManGaming etc, as well as links to free online games and other game houses such as Alawar, Playrix and Gamehouse plus gaming news sites such as Rock Paper Shotgun and Game Seek, and included a list of free to play Massive Multiplayer games such as World of Tanks, World of Warships, Liberators and Allegiance to name a few. For more details please go to the Weekly roundup of game deals over in the game discussion sticky section HERE.

There are .894 games on sale over on Steam at the moment, with up to 91% off. Game prices range from as little as £0.15p (most of these cheap games are actually cheaper in the UK than the US, so if you are a US citizen and have a UK friend, get them to buy the game for you). There are almost 200 games and dlc less than $1 and almost 250 for less than £1. You can find all of the deals HERE.

If you spend more than $3 in the Indie Gala store you'll also get a free copy of the old school anime rpg '200% Mixed Juice' worth $6.99/£4.99There's 60% off the enhanced version of Dying Light The Following, plus there are loads more deals with excellent discounts that you'll find HERE.

The Humble Bundle site has two excellent bundles plus their monthly package that is excellent value for money. The game bundle is the Humble Civilization bundle that includes Civilization III, iV, V and 20% off Civilization VI, or 25% off the deluxe version. They even have a software bundle at the moment with apps such as System Mechanic, Air Parrot, EaseUS Partition Master, all three worth over $100 for a dollar, or for just over $6/less than £5 you can get Daemon tools Pro 8 lifetime, Blackblase Online backup, 3D Mark Advanced Edition, worth £110 or for $12 /under £10 PC Mark 8 advanced, VR Mark Advanced and Dashlane Premium (1 year) worth around £110, plus you get 10% off the humble monthly bundle for $12 worth over $100. If you subscribe now (ends in just over a week) you'll get as a bonus Total War: Warhammer. The Humble store features loads of discounted games (usually steam codes). If you subscribe to the Humble Monthly, which costs $12 a month (or less if you choose various monthly plans) you not only get a large collection of decent Steam games you will also get for the first month of the subscription Total War: Warhammer, which was released last Spring and costs $59.99/£39.99. The great thing is, you can cancel at any time, so only need to receive the first bundle of games. I personally haven't bothered, but only becasue I usually have already purchased most of the games included in the monthly bundle. The usual savings on the games you get are around 90%, not counting the introductory offer. There's also lots of games on sale over on the Bundle Stars and Indie Game Stand (IGS).

Giveaway Team Contact and Moderation policy:

Continued from the first paragraph at the beginning of this review ........... I am posting this in light of the massive increase in negative comments not related to the game being given away, inappropriate comments and spam (Almost 700 spam comments were posted over a 24 hour period last month ) that have occurred over the past several months since the site was updated and in particular since the site started using Facebook, Twitter and Steam. This is a site that gives free games away, so it's quite shocking to see the number of negative and sometimes inappropriate comments being posted here, especially when they are not even related to the actual game that we receive. I always though getting something for free was a privilege/perk/treat/ and deserves at least some thanks or gratitude and cannot understand why we get so many negative comments that possibly turn away potential developers who would otherwise have given the project their games. Of course we have freedom of speech, but as mentioned in my review above, there are rules to posting in this comments section; even a free society requires rules and regulations to run properly, so please bear this in mind when posting a comment.

I believe if we get lots of decent feedback about the games we get here, more developers would be happy to give away their games. Seeing lots of complaints (and spam) instead of feedback about the giveaways will not persuade other developers to give their creations away for free, especially when they may have spent thousands of hours working on the creation. So please bear this in mind when posting your comments. Any comment not about the game for example complaints, or if deemed unfriendly or inappropriate, will be deleted (usually with no explanation) or added to the spam folder, which automatically black lists the IP address you used. Although I have enjoyed responding to many of those comments in the past, I will no longer waste my time answering comments from community members who should have read the moderation policy.

scepter of Ra 019
scepter of Ra 020
Negative feedback about the games given away will always be welcomed because they can also be very constructive for developers, however, complaining about the way the site is operating or problems about downloading or installing the games or about Steam keys not received should be directed to the giveawayoftheday team via the contact form (with evidence of completed tasks, the name and email you used to enter the competition, or giveaway). I've linked to the contact form HERE; alternatively, if the problem is game related and it is late in the day (I can't moderate 24 hours a day), please also post your issue in the forums where you may get a response from the community. All games given away here have been thoroughly checked using several anti malware suites to ensure a safe download and in the 10 plus years this site has been operating, there has never been a game infected with malware. If your security software flags an issue, it's probably the Themida code that is used to protect the game from hackers or sometimes the non invasive adware that MPC games use. Themida code can also be used to hide malware, so some security software's will automatically block anything with Themida code, even if it's absolutely safe to install. also other computer configurations (i.e. the way you have your computer set up) may have blocked the install. Often, such problems are related to your computers set up. i.e. your security may block the installation (for example quite a few game giveaways I've installed have been blocked by my copy of Zemana Anti-malware suite) Also please read the moderation policy which can be found HERE and if you do have a problem please check the FAQ's thread HERE. Thank you for reading.

FREE game offer from the moderator in exchange for quality feedback:

There were some winners from last weeks game giveaways, which I mentioned in reply to their comments. Given a couple away so far, but still waiting to hear from others.

I've posted a list of over 200 Steam games in the forums HERE and will be adding more as time permits over the coming weeks. It is quite an extensive list of games taken from the 10 000+ Steam keys I've collected over the last several years; all were either purchased by me, with some )only a few) received free for pre-ordering games on Steam, plus a few from entering competitions and other offers). There will be a limited number of other keys available, such as Origin, uPlay and Desura keys (Desura has recently been purchased following the original owners demise and should be up and running by the end of March). I will announce the winner's from the giveaway the following week. If no announcement is made, it means no one posted feedback that qualified for a free game that week. There were no winners from the previous two weeks, though I am still considering a couple of comments from last week. I will inform those community members if I decide they are worth a game by email. If you have won a game, I will also post details in the thread I've created specifically for that purpose HERE. Once I've given a key away, the game and any comments by the winner will be removed from the list the following week. I will assume if you don't reply within a few weeks you aren't bothered about a key. Please post your preferences (list at least 3 games in order of preference over in the forums HERE. Thank you. Happy gaming.)

scepter of Ra 021
scepter of Ra 002
Depending on the quality of the feedback, I may choose to award games to more community members for each game given away, 'at my discretion'. The feedback must be about the game, and it must include a couple of paragraphs of feedback following the guidelines I've posted in the suggestions section of my review. i.e. your opinion of the game, what you liked and/or disliked plus suggestions for improvement. If you choose a game that is very cheap I may give you a second game; so, when choosing from the list I provide, please list more than one choice. If a game is chosen by more than one community member and only one key is available the key will go to the one I deem the most useful. I do have multiple keys for quite a lot of the games I've listed, so, don't be put off if you see someone else has chosen the game you want. I haven't indicated any of the games I have multiple keys for (though for example I do have several keys for the excellent Western themed AAA game Call of Juarez, which i picked up for free for purchasing several games via the Indie Gala store several months ago. spending a few dollars got me a copy of the game, so I made several separate purchases over a couple of days while the offer was still live.
I do own at least three community members a game from the previous giveaways that I posted several months ago. I'd totally forgotten about those. I do have a document with their names on, so they will get a game from the original list when I find the document (I'm extremely disorganized); or they can peruse the new list and choose something different. Just post a comment over in the forums in the appropriate thread. If you do post feedback with a view to getting one of the games and think you have covered the requirements, you don't have to do anything until I announce the winners the following week.
Please remember, this comments section is mainly for feedback about today's game giveaway. If you're not sure, read the moderation policy, which you can see HERE

I should have just copied my other comments, but I enjoyed the play of the game and was having a good time figuring out each new element since the explanation oddly comes after the first level with the change, but I got to the sixth or seventh level when I ran out of time for the last life. I'd been told every third comment that you can restart a level to try again. What it never says is you have to do this before you lose the level, and if you run out of your three lives, all progress in the game is lost. If each level took 30 seconds, maybe this wouldn't have been a big deal, but playing through all the easy levels again just to get the chance to try a new level wasn't worth it, while I didn't want to skip levels. I wanted to see what I'd already done. The relaxed mode might have solved the throw back to the beginning, but without the challenge of going against the timer, it got boring. No incentive to figure it out quickly.

This is a nice change from the Match 3 games - a little brick shooter mixed with Match 3, not quite as frantic as brick shooter games can get and requiring more thought than the average Match 3 games. The instructions seem pretty complete except that I can't quite figure out where to find the "black holes" that you're supposed to be able to discard unneeded balls in. Probably something simple I'm just overlooking and will be able to find after I get some sleep. It looks like a pretty good length, too.

Hey Wrascally Wabbit,

I am not in any hurry about what I messaged you on Steam about. No hurries. The key is good until April 10, 2017.

This is a new trick match 3. It takes some getting used to and lots of strategy. I like the sound effects, the echoy(is that a word?)effect makes you think you are in a tomb of sorts. It would be perfect if it had more directions and how it operates. I started on the relaxed mode until I figure out how all the things work..then I will go back to the reg mode.

Thank you GGOTD and Big Fish and My PlayCity for the game and thanks to the wiley Wabbit for his review. I almost didn't download it.

Hugs to you and your family, Wabbit.

For the first time (2nd time including last week) in the 10 years I've downloaded occasional games from ggaotd, I can't install the download. I even installed, (tried to no avail and then uninstalled) WINRAR to see if that would help.

The downloads are reaching me fine, it seems, I just can't extract them.

When I click the setup, I get an activation popup and then a page opens asking me to spread the word, but nothing downloads.I'm using Windows 7.

This has never been an issue in the past and it's an even bigger shame because I haven't seen a game I've fancied for ages, then 2 come along in two weeks and I can't play them.

Any advice/ideas gratefully received.

Hi Mike,

Sorry I got to your comment after the giveaway had ended. I presume you've read other replies I've made about security software blocking giveaway installations due to either the Themida wrapper or possibly the non invasive adware found in MyPlayCity games? The alternative would be to download the MyPlayCity versions, which i always link to in my reviews. So long as you uncheck the three check-boxes (see image I posted in previous comment) the installtion is basically the same as todays giveaway.

Scepter of Ra
Download and installed well on Win10 Pro x64, a Match 3 but with some differences from the usual fare.
Somewhat complicated at first until you understand the concepts, and I would suggest reading the info files about it first before and during playing. Do like the flaming Fireballs, and some of the other powerups, but must admit, while I usually like Match 3s this one just didn't thrill me, although maybe it's just the somewhat limited gameplay so far, and will keep it and go back to it more than the few times I have so far.
Was to involved for my daughter to latch onto, and she lost interest in it fairly quickly, something that doesn't happen often. As always YMMV ;)
Do thank MPC and GGOTD for getting us these games, which is a blessing for us all!

Installer wouldn't work on my Windows 7 computer, it says installation complete, but game is nowhere to be found on my computer. Windows Explorer said installer crashed...this happened 4 times.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Donald

This has been quite common for a few years now; ever since the giveaway wrapper was updated to include a Themida wrapper that protects the games executable from being hacked. Prior to its use many community members were copying the unwrapped executable that appeared temporarily in the AppData\Local\Temp folde. This allowed those who found the file (which usually had a coded name, but was obvious to anyone who looked at the size of the file and selected from view the most recent addition) to be able to install the game anytime and anywhere they wished after the giveaway had ended. what was worse, some community members posted you tube videos of how to do it and posted in various game blogs about how to rip the game. This caused problems as developers did not want their games being ripped like that. on top[ of all this those ripped games were being uploaded to peer to peer sites where as far as I know many of those games are still available for download. The new wrapper stops this. Unfortunately Themida code can also be used to hide malware, which is why some security software tend to block any file wrapped with Themida. The way around this is either reboot your computer in safe mode with networking, temporarily turn off your security or open up your security and white list the giveaway file that is wrapped. any one of these will enable you to install the game. hope this helps. do post if you have any other queries about the game and also please let me know that you got it working.
The MyPlayCity version which you can download HERE is basically the same game except there is some non-invasive adware included as well as a tool bar bat file that will install a toolbar in your browser if you don't uncheck the checkbox for toolbar. Also some MPC games will try to install every time you reboot the game, but not all. you just have to be wary when you boot the game up the next time. If you don't see check-boxes they have been removed after the initial installation.

Some community members say, why bother installing the giveaway version? The reason is that apart from when you close the game down everything else that happens with a the version downloaded from MPC have been removed, so you don't have to be as vigilant. The browser opening that occurs when you close the game down, opens your browser at MPC's home page. This earns MPC money, part of which goes to the developer of the game you got for free. This is the only reason sites like MPC can give away games for free, becasue they pay the developer for the privilege. It's actually a really good business model because everyone wins. You can avoid the extras that the MPC version tries to install or change (e.g. your home page and browser provider) by unchecking the three check boxes that appear when you first install the game.

p.s. there's also another similar game to Scepter of Ra called Treasures of Ra, which can be downloaded from MPC HERE. If you decide to download, please bear in mind what I've written above. looks like a good game, with similar mechanics to Scepter of Ra, but also totally different.

Love this game. I found by accident if I right click while I position the colored tile, I can change its color to the next one or back again if I decided I cannot use it. Nifty!! It downloaded beautifully, the layout and the graphics are excellent. A keeper for sure. Thanks GGOTD :).

Oh, my - what a unique and challenging twist on Match 3! I love that it takes a bit more strategy, and you can take out several groups of tiles at once with a little extra thought to shove one set of colors against another. It's the best game I've seen lately, easy to stay engaged and not get bored. The tiny file size made a quick and easy download, with a flawless installation on Windows 8.1, as long as I disable AVG for 5 minutes during setup. Thanks so much GGOTD and MyPlayCity for the excellent game, and thanks WR for another great review. I found the tips and videos of gameplay very helpful to understand the rules so that I could get right into enjoying the game.

Thank you for your feedback Buster, glad you like the game. I agree about it being one of the best lately.

Agree with majority. Good game on Windows 10 x64 Pro. Did crash video card when first tried to run game after install. Rebooted PC and played ok, maybe trouble was using D: internal 2nd drive. Plays pretty fairly at beginning levels. Went to Relaxed as barely won Normal first game. Figure Relaxed will give me a chance to get the logic of the game. I mean you can win by banging away at the red & yellow blocks but not sure what stops what from moving when you shoot the square. Sometimes the main block stays in position, other times switches colors and moves a cell or two. I'll get the logic in a bit but game is a keeper for fans. Thanks GOTD.

Thanks for your feedback Beergas. Once you've played it for a while you'll get those little nuances of the game. I've been playing it on and off all day.

Installed this programme twice and cannot gat it to srart, get a message of "improper programme". ??? contact the publisher but no luck there either, any ideas?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

It's almost certainly your security that is blocking the installation. The giveaway executable file is wrapped in a Themida wrapper that is sometimes blocked by anti malware suites due to it also being used to hide malware. in this case the file is entirely safe. You can either reboot in safe mode with networking, turn off your security temporarily while you install, or open up your security program and white-list the giveaway files. The giveaway team have been giving games away virtually every weekend for over 10 years and there has never been a conformed positive malware incident. We've had plenty of false positives since the Themida wrapper was incorporated, but that is die to over sensitive security.

Nice game. Something different from the usual "match 3" which has flooded the market and Facebook. Instllaed and works well in Win 10.

Thank you to Game GAOTD and MPC.

I count myself amongst the old timers now after hitting 60 last year. Still can't believe I'm that old. My young family have kept me young at heart, meeting my wife while I was a mature student at university back in the 1980's.

Downloaded on my Win10 - no problems.

Just to let everybody know, I have been using this site for 8 years and have never had an issue with any games. Not like other places. That's why I go here first.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Thanks Peggy, I think most community members can say the same. There are thousands downloading every week, so, although it may appear there are problems it's usually only a very tiny percentage of the community, and it's usually an issue with their set up that is causing the issue.

I like match 3 games so installed this, no problems and you can turn off the music and special effects (an essential for me, as I listen to radio plays while I play games). Seems good, a bit different to other match 3 games. Please in the tutorials could the game makers explain what you have to do to complete a level. They show you what you have to do to match the blocks, but do not tell you the significance of the colours on the tiles underneath, I think you have to match the same colour over them for them to disappear, and when they are all gone the level is complete. I am fed up with having to try to work out what the overall goal is, and what makes you fail to complete a level. This is not the only game where I have found this. But I like this one so will keep it, thank you.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Barbara

You got it exactly, once those colored tiles that are present at the beginning of a level are matched, the level is complete. that is the slightly faded tiles, which when a tile of the same color is matched to it the tile sticks to it. The first power up, the fireball, can also be used to remove those faded colored tiles. Didn't realize you could use those to complete a level until I accidentally let go a fireball on the last faded colored tile instead of the matching tile i have. Was surprised when the level ended, so just to make sure on the next level, i'd saved a fireball and found I was able to finish off a level using the power up instead of the correct colored tile.

Hi everybody and Whiterabbit-UK. :-)

Preamble: I'm using Win10 home x64, DEP always on, UAC enabled with max level, custom scaling 150%, resolution 1920x1080, color depth 32bit, refresh rate 60Hz, Win10 Defender, Win10 firewall.

No problems detected after doing pre-scans and post-scans with Defender, SAS, MBAM2, EEK, GSAM.
No problems detected after I sent the package to virustotal, metadefender, jotti: links at the end of this post.
Virscan doesn't want to scan it.
Those webservices show the same false positives for GAOTD setup.exe found in last years: I won't repeat them.
No problems during game download and during its installation.
At its startup I couldn't see all the screen, therefore I had to "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" (properties – compatibility tab).
No problems changing its options.

Thanks to the GAOTD team, in particular to Whiterabbit-UK!
Follow the white rabbit, guys!
Thanks for the game to Absolutist, Intenium, BigFishGames, MyPlayCity!

Pretty graphics
| Does not work correctly in a window when two monitors. Blocking switching between monitors, etc.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Mikik
What program do you use for your multi monitor set up? I had no problems playing it in windowed mode running two monitors using Display Fusion. When Display Fusion is running you get a small monitor symbol next to the minimize button, that enables you to switch the game from one monitor to the next. I attached a third monitor and it then enables me to switch between the three monitors. works really well. I purchased the pro version about 3 or 4 years ago. It's also available via Steam and is sometimes on sale for up to 75% off. At the moment it is full price at $19.99. I'm sure it was also a giveaway over on the main site a few years ago, though it may have been one of the other sites that give free apps away.

Thank you for the info. I have Win7 x64 with 2 monitors (1920x1080 and 1920x1200). I do not use special PRG. Only driver from nVidia. I'm concerned about basic procedures. E.g. ALT + ENTER changes the entire screen vs. window. Here, while changing the game window and move to monitor 2 ve remained blocked in the Monitor 1. When I jumped into another prg., I was able to monitor 2, but not in the game .. Based on the classic bug me - the game keeps monitor 1 and does not move to monitor 2

I, too, have issues with my antivirus when I try to open the game file. I just open the Norton application and go into Security, find the problem file, and click on the hard-to-see Options at the bottom of the box. Once there, I can choose to exclude this file and go ahead and open it. A long time ago I was able to tell Norton to always allow the file from GGOTD, but I'm back to having to do this every time I download a game. A little annoying, but worth the effort.

Looking forward to trying out today's game but won't be able to get to it until later. Thanks again for a new game to try!

Downloaded OK.
De setup does not kick of. I get the successfully activated window, but nothing happens next.
Same as a couple of weeks ago. Don't remember what game that was.
I am running windows 10 (latest update)

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi valboe

Sounds like your security software has blocked the installation. You can either reboot your computer into safe mode and install the game, or temporarily turn off your security until the game has been installed, or white-list the giveaway installer with your security. The game giveaway team thoroughly check all files that are downloaded and in the 10_+ years they have been giving games away virtually every weekend since then, there has never been an infected game given away, so I would be safe in saying you shouldn't get any issues by temporarily turning off your security. If there had been a security issue we would already have been inundated with comments reporting such an issue.
My security (Zemana AntiMalware) also blocked today's game, turning it off allowed the game to be installed.

Hi valboe. :-)

What antivirus are you using?

Reply   |   Comment by xilolee  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Hi everyone,
You don't need to switch off the security the whole time, just until the installer has loaded. Then you can do the installation protected by your security software.

While I'm still waiting for my email with download link (which is unusual---I usually get them immediately) thought I would ask if this is like the Arxon game we got here recently? That also involves shooting from the edges vs. the typical match 3. I'm finding that challenging but so far am doing ok with it, but this sounds even harder. I love a challenge and not the same old, same old, so I'm looking forward to this, but a bit intimidated by the idea that there isn't much help to figure out how/why certain things act as they do.

Link still not arrived. ?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Neme

The download should begin immediately you've signed in. There isn't usually an email for MPC games. They tend to be reserved for Steam keys.
The game is much more similar to Stones of Rome that was given away on New Years Eve last year (2016).

Reply   |   Comment by neme  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Well, I finally checked the spam folder online and found the link email---in all the years I've been coming here, this is the first that didn't make it through the spam filter; hope this helps someone else.

Played for a few minutes and it is a bit hard to figure out, though so far so good. Different from Arxon in that, although you are shooting from the sidelines like Arxon, it seems the only way to stop your shot is the tiles already on the board.

I have been looking for a break from the same old, same old Match 3 (although still having a ball with Frosty Splash :)) so this one's a keeper for me, though the tension of not really being sure exactly what I'm doing is a bit frustrating. Thanks to the developers and to GGOTD!

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Neme

A little practice and I think it will be clearer.

You have to shoot the correct color tiles/hieroglyphs onto the fixed tiles (or colored spots as they are referred to in the review above), which once matched disappear. Once the fixed tiles are cleared, you win the level. Great game, personally I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Similar to the game we were given on New Years Eve last year called Stones of Rome, but also with important differences.

Reply   |   Comment by neme  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Yup, WR, I got the hang of it basically; it's just the nuances that I think I'm a little dense on. But it's fun so far and I can see spending more time playing this as a break from the usual. Good game! BTW, installed fine on Win 8.1.

The email thing is because I don't do the Facebook thing; nothing to do with Steam. I just hit 'download' and it says to recommend on social media OR alternately, to enter my email, which I do, and then the link comes to me. That's what I always do; this is the first time the yahoo spam filters picked off a reply (which comes from GGOTD, not MPC).

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Ah I get it. I tend to forget about the FB and email thing because when I'm logged into my admin account I get a direct download instead of having to go through the steps. Sorry about that, sort of forget the steps everyone else has to follow.

Downloaded and installed on Win 10 with no problem. Nice game, that you can play for a few minutes between other tasks or sit with for a while. Took a few minutes to sort out what to do and have only played the easy levels so far - I'm sure it gets harder soon! I don't like having the 'next tile' right behind the one in use - I kept firing the wrong one - I would have preferred it elsewhere on the screen - but nice to have a 'relaxed mode' as well, as I hate timed games. Overall a keeper I think - thanks Game Giveaway.

Fran, just a heads-up in case you missed it, but that "next" tile can be kinda helpful, as if you right click it switches to the 'next' tile, which may be more a color you need.
