Immerse yourself in a dynamic and exciting game of ping pong!

From generation to generation, each new Pharaoh wanted to be more powerful than the previous one. One got his wealth by seizing the lands of others, another - in the fertile lands of the Nile. But there was another way to gain overwhelming richness...

Legend says that in the abandoned temples of the City of the Dead, the treasury of Egypt ancient rulers was kept. Priests put the gold into magical blocks, guarded by those who were gone for eternity. Only the Great Pharaoh could take back the gold, gathering together the blocks and presenting seals. The seals were lost with time. There were no Pharaohs who wished to return ancient treasures, as the price for a mistake was great - eternal wandering in the dark world of the dead. Would you like to try your luck? Returning the treasures of the ancestors, you will build the City, the glory of which will live for centuries...

In this fast-paced Match 3 game, the goal is to restore the temples of the City of the Dead, getting hidden gold. You can get the gold by matching 3 ancient blocks. At the same time you should keep an eye on mummies who can put a curse, stealing gold and freezing the blocks. You have limited time to meet your goal on gold and become the Great Pharaoh!

The Great Pharaoh has rather drab brown images in its "view from a distance" building progress shots but is otherwise sufficiently visually interesting for me. There are varied sounds and pleasant background music and after downloading it on 11/09/2011 I still enjoy playing this match three game occasionally. I prefer these smaller games with no disturbing flashing images. The "Smoke", explosions and flashes are exciting yet not migraine inducing! Only one jarring note: the word "completed" is mispelled after the first two congratulatory screens, with an "i" instead of the "e" after the "l".Thanks for a good time frittering- match 'em up/ blow-'em-up game.

I am playing this on a windows 7 home premium and ahve to right click the desktop icon and choose start with administrators rights or it won't launch properly. This probably has to do with my AV. It might help players to know this if the same thing is happening to them too.

as a fan of match 3 games i was eager to download this one. graphics are nice, help is good, story line nice. the only thing i would say could improve is that the "frozen" pieces are difficult to see so you can match them and break them. i end up treating them like black pieces and guessing which will match or hoping matched cascades will break them for me, kinda takes out any strategy of matching those pieces. maybe this was intentional, but ends up annoying because you can almost see them. haven't played long enough to get on the scoreboard yet, though my scores seem as if they should be up by now. otherwise nice game, thanks!

A good M3 game for beginners but I found it not quite as interesting (or as difficult) as other strategy M3s like Puzzle Quest, Puzzle Hero, the Adventures of Mary Ann, etc.

I did like the strategic aspect of trying to make sure there were no matches around the mummies - it is a little different than the "shut out one's opponent" strategy in the other Strategy M3s. I also liked the more detailed graphics than many M3s. Also, there seemed to be real thought towards making the game playable by colorblind folks since each gem type has both a different shape and hieroglyph.

However, there just didn't seem to be quite enough challenge for an experienced M3 player. Maybe a little more variety in levels - perhaps some with the mummies and others with different challenges would help make it more interesting.

Just getting tired of all the match three games. You can only play the same genre of game so many times.

Don't get me wrong, still appreciate the project, it's just that once you've played one, you've pretty much played them all(excluding graphics, theme, and storyline, if there is one worth paying attention).

Sorry to just complain, but i wanted to say thanks, Whiterabbit for the link to Caiman.us. Definitely worth a look for anybody who likes GGOTD if your tired of all the match three's or can't wait till next weekend for a cheap(free)thrill or just a activity to kill a little time.

Download took longer than I thought it should. Extracted ok, activated, then I tried to start the game & the game crashed. I deleted it and downloaded again (also slow). Extracted again. And it crashed again. I even rebooted my computer between download tries. I'm disappointed.

.....................Moderator Comment..................

Did you get any error messages? Let us know if you did. When you say it crashed do you mean while you were extracting the files from the zipped file or w hile you were installing it.

for $3 you can get a brilliant match three game from Steam called Puzzle Quest. Check the link above in my last post. :)

Todays Daily deal over at Steam is a brilliant match 3 called Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the warlords. I mentioned earlier that Match 3's have morphed into more interesting games that combine other genres, in this case RPG elements. You can get 67% oof that's only £2.00 or around $3.00.

You can check it out via the following link:

Thank you for the game! I downloaded this last time, but had not commented. It was okay like most everyone said before me. I would have liked it much more if it was like Puzzle Quest, with rpg elements to it. I have been trying to find more like that, but it is hard. If it had the power ups like Cradle of Rome, certain colors let you do things or even mini games of hidden objects, or perhaps some sort of puzzle, spot the difference would have made it far more enjoyable. I do hope developers listen to some of the suggestions. If games get old, players move on to another. The music was nice, it was not too loud and had the the egyptian type feel to it. I would have liked to see the buildings being built up and perhaps a different goal that just gold. I am not sure if this was helpful. I do appreciate everyone's hard work and time to bring us fun games to play!!

@Whiterabbit: I can't get through to you on Steam. It tells me you're on snooze, which is weird considering you're displayed as in-game. Message me ASAP for the free game I mentioned last week.

And also, the fix for 4 Elements is erroneously attributed to me. The first mention of the fix is by Avid Gamer (#95), who has a nice detailed fix, then me (#123), and then the one by ricethief (#147), who actually found the root of the problem (why haven't I seen that earlier?). So there you go. Three different people with different fixes. It's not all me.

I tend to pause my games especially if it's a game where you can't save exactly where you are, so that I can return when I've had my cat nap. I was half way through a quest when needed to crash.

I don't genally like this type of game, but I must say this one had me continuously going for over an hour.
On the face of it it seemed that the graphics could be made varied rather than a similar board playing area and pieces,
it might be more interesting to have characters that appear randomly and if they appear within a threesome you unlock a bonus which takes you to a bonus game such as a jig saw puzzle shuffle, different character at different levels giving different games to solve.
Apart from that excellent all the same
Many thanks to GGOTD !!

Thanks for repeat of this one. Half rem it from back then. Don't rem satification one way or other. Given my new larger LED monitor I'm giving it a second shake only because of fair appreciation for match 3 genre. Comments pretty poor but worth a shot to see if scale helps.
So far my sole keeper-player is 4 Elements which is running & saving just fine after avoiding dreaded E at end of name. Got to begin of third Book. Had to replay a couple levels lately as they do get more complex but what joy to complete one after busting a boulder situation or such lockjam. Now that is the game standard for me. Solid 10 of 10 as measuring stick. In future, fans should refer to a game they truly enjoy in relative scale to 4 Elements. Thanks GOTD.

Good game - good variation on bejeweled - nice graphics - colors (between red & orange) could be more defined - hard to see with an extremely good 32 in monitor. speed is good - changes to next level a little erratic - something older children & adults can enjoy - an idea might be to add "fight" scenes between defenders and enemies - similar to Battle Chess - you know who is going to win but - it would mask changes between scenes and levels. Thank you.

I just saw, that there is a fix for the 4 Elements game. Well, after not being able to save, I deinstalled the game ... now I could fix it but the game is gone ... I am disappointed ... I actually expect a game working properly ...

I loved the game :-(

Maybe I am not the only one who deinstalled the game, because of the "save" problem ... Is there any chance we could get the game again?

Thanks a lot!

Thanks, for any new games on giveawayoftheday, please first time after setup, ask me to set up the graph before start the game. like full screen or window or other, 32-bit or 64-bit or other that will be nice at setup before game starts. Otherwise it will screw up my regular screen ,example internet explorer, mozilla firefox, other windows were move to up left corner and shrink the window size of full screen that is not suppose to be, especially 1920 x 1200.
thanks

Purely FWIW as counterpoint for any match 3 fans, my wife found The Great Pharaoh quite playable when it was previously offered, & has enjoyed the game. Yes, it's not one of her favorites, but she'd rather have it than not.

Where the Wheemplay games are good for a few minutes here, a few minutes there, she also likes these less involved Match 3s when she doesn't want to spend hours [or have hours to spend] playing -- she finds games like The Great Pharaoh much easier to walk away from... playing half through the night is cool when you have the next day off, but it tends to make it awful rough when you have to be at work bright & early. :-)

Whiterabbit,

How is this different from the Great Pharaoh that we had last year? Did something in the game change?

........................Moderator comment...................

Apart from the zip file which has changed size (I don't know why) the game itself is the same as the one given away earlier this year, so, if you got it then, you don't need to bother re-downloading it.

From the timestamps on the files inside the ZIP, this giveaway has been prepared a long time ago (a month). That explains why I thought there was no game giveaway today. Anyway, I think I commented on this game the first time I saw it. Not sure if this is an updated version (I'm not bothered to crack it open). Here were my comments: http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/the-great-pharaoh/#comment-166856

BTW, a clarification, if I haven't already done so: I don't dislike shooters, I just don't like top-down ones purporting to be 3D. I like explorable worlds. And WR's screenshots make the game look extremely nice and smooth. Now that's amazing.

....................Moderator Comment....................

Thank you for your feedback GMMan, and claryfying the shooter question. :). :)

A pretty standard match 3 game, done numerous times (and frequently better: Atlantis Quest, Fishdom, etc.) before. The Ancient Egypt theme does nothing to make this any more interesting. Played through the first 5 dull levels and decided not to bother with the remaining 30 or so probably equally dull levels. Not for me, I'm afraid.

................Moderator comment.................

I felt the same, and didn't enjoy checking this one out when it was given away earlier this year. There's nothing to inspire you to play the game, just very dull game play that's been done to death.

I think I'll go crack open my Puzzle Quest II which I got via Steam last year, but hardly played becasue of all the other even better games i got over the cnhristmas period. :D Now! that's a great match three game with RPG elements included that give the game some interest above and beyond the actual match three game play. With Puzzle Quest I & II, you look for the best match threethat'll earn you spells, attacks or money as well as special attacks.

As already mentioned in my review above, there are around 60 match three games, some of which are far superior to today's game available for free from MyPlayCity, (see my link above).

First of all THANKS for having posted here the 4 Elements fix (smart! ;))

Today's game has been offered in the past but despite the indicated version is the same, both the size of the packed executable and the contents of the folder (minor part) are different... This seems to happen every now and then... I guess we will never really know what changed.

I checked both Gametop and MyPlaycity but I was unable to find that type of game I mentioned in yesterday's thread.

(yesterday I actually explained that in a wrong way, so I'll try again, please bear with me :))

What I am looking for is a "matching tile” game.

The tiles are laid out face-down and the player(s) turn them over in an attempt to find matching tiles. The (turned) matching pairs will disappear and the (turned) tiles which don't match will be flipped face-down again.

An example is "Pairs" by Blocksoft http://blocksoft.net/pairs.html

I would be VERY grateful if somebody could kindly recommend a nice(r) Tile Matching Memory Game.

Thanks again.

Sekiden gun fan :D

...........................Moderator Comment.................

Yes, if memory serves me (which it usually doesn't) the last time this was givn away the archive was nearly twice the size. I wonder if those guns are still made?

Check through the free games synopsis, which i've linked to above, you may find what you're looking for there, or alternatiely try Caimans Games. Rudy Caiman posted thousands of games before he passed away early last yrear. the sites front page hasn't been updated since then, but friends and of family of Rudy's are working on upgrading the site.:

........................Moderator Comment.....................

Like a lot of game giveaways it's a free standing game so you just delete the game folder manually and it's done. There may be a few orphan registry entries left behind, but they will have no impact on the running of the game. ;-)

To all who downloaded last week’s 4 Elements and had a problem with the profiles not accepting certain letters and not saving. GMMan found a fix which you can find by following THIS link

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you’ve checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain why your reasons for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with a levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen

Problems installing or activating:l>

If you have difficulty downloading or activating the game you can try again later or do one of the following - for example once downloaded when you click on the dual activation and set up file you may get the message “Failed to connect. Please try again later” Check to see if your internet explorer isn't offline (thqanks to MrSnoozles for that fix). If this happens and the previous suggestion doesn't work go check out previous comments from the last several weeks and look for comments from GMMan, Mike. They have also posted possible fixes for this problem.
I’ve always tried re-booting my modem and/or router with some success, though Mike has said that doing that does nothing. Still, it’s worth a try if all else fails.

I will be posting a FAQ’s in the forums soon that will cover problems when installing game giveaways in the mean-time its easy enough to search through the comments from previous giveaways. I did post GMMans fix over in the forums last week so that shouldn’t be too hard to find

The Great Pharaohl>:

Installationl>

The Great Pharaoh downloads to a 44.5MB zip file that unpacks to a wrapped setup and activation module plus a read me that contains details of the installation and the terms and conditions. Once installed the game uses 81.8Mb of disc space.

I’ve tested the game on all my installations and it works on XP Pro 32 bit, Vista Home Basic 32 bit, Vista Home Premium 64 bit, Win 7 Pro 64 bit and Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit installations. There’s no shortcut installed so make a note of where the game is installed to so that you can manually create a desktop shortcut. By default it installs to the following path:

C:\Games\TheGreatPharaoh

The Gamel>

This is a reasonable match three game with decent graphics and additional elements that add to the overall game experience. Game play is as you’d expect from a match three; that is you have to swap adjacent blocks so that three or more blocks of identical colour, including those that are frozen line up in columns or rows. This destroys the blocks and releases the gold that is hidden within the block.

There are some original features that make it worth downloading such as the building of a town and the addition of mummies that steal gold from you as well as add a curse which freezes several blocks for a specific length of time. This occurs when there is a line of three similar blocks next to the mummies. If you can line up three of these mummies in a row or column you will get extra gold and destroys the mummies. You can see various symbols within each colored block, these have various values for example collecting 3 ankh’s is worth 120 gold pieces whereas collecting three squiggly lines are worth 250 gold pieces; collecting additional blocks such as a line of 4 or five gives you more gold. You’ll find 7 different values within the blocks ranging from 100 gold pieces to 250 gold pieces. (100, 120, 140, 160, 180, 200 and 250). Destroying three mummies is worth 500 gold pieces. There are 40 levels broken up into eight different stages. Each stage ends in the completion of a specific Egyptian building or object such as an Obelisk, the Temple of Anubis, a city gates or the Pyramids. After each level you are awarded a part of a key. Collecting all the parts will unlock the next stage in the building of the town.

As you would expect levels start off easy with grids of 8x8 which increase in size as you get further into the game. Progression is mapped out via the levels map, which shows you the various buildings and monuments that you will build throughout the game. There doesn’t appear to be any power-ups added to this game (I didn’t encounter any while playing the demo, which included the first five levels).

The options menu enables you to change several parameters such as screen resolution , windowed mode and an advanced lighting mode that adds shadows to the game (not very obvious) as well a sound and music sliders to adjust the volume and a difficulty slider that has three choices, easy, medium and hard difficulty.

PicDepict.com
Featuresl>:

• Collect gold from ancient tombs in this entertaining Match 3 challenge.

• Restore the Temple of Anubis, the Great Pyramids, the giant Obelisk and more.

• Watch out for mummies and their curse as they steal gold and freeze blocks.

Images & Videol>:

You can see a slideshow of around 50 images showing the first area to be unlocked HERE. You’ll see help screens, several levels, statistic screens and the level map. Unfortunately the images were uploaded backwards, so you see the later images first

You can view all the images in full screen or as a grid with adjustable slider to view in various sizes. Just click on one of the two buttons to the bottom right of the screen, just above the film strip; (you need to hover your mouse over the bottom of the screen to see the filmstrip)

You can see a couple of videos of game play HERE and HERE

Conclusionl>::

This is a match three game of medium quality. It’s not the best in my opinion, but still playable. It’s got similarities to games like Atlantis Quest which was given away some time ago, but the quality of the game does not match Atlantis Quest by a long shot. The graphics are uninspiring and drab with no power ups to add sparkle and excitement. That said, it’s a basic match three; and if you like match three’s you’ll probably play this one, but too be honest I’ve added links to far superior match three’s below in the ‘Similar Games for Free section’

I’d give it an average score of around 6.5 out of 10. This is broken down into a 7 out of 10 for game play (I’m being generous) and 6 out of 10 for graphics and sound. I like Match Three’s as they are mindless and sometimes I need a mindless game that’s easy to play. The main problem with this game is that this genre has moved on from the original Jewel Quest type game play and now we get match three’s that are combined with RPG elements for example Puzzle Quest 1 & 2 or card playing games like Gyromancer, or more traditional match three’s like Treasures of Montezuma that have upgradeable power ups and spectacular graphics or give you screensavers at the end of the game like Atlantis Quest; (or several if you play Around the World in 80 Days). The amazing thing is the last three games I mentioned above can now be downloaded completely free for the full version - (follow the link to MyPlayCity).
Apart from the addition of a quest to build various landmarks and buildings in between levels the match three game is very basic. The attempt to spice the game up with this building quest really didn’t work, because there is no actual contribution from the player apart from completing a match three level because the building stages are automatic and occur when you’ve completed a level. You’ll be whisked off to the site and magically see a new building or a city gate appear, and then the next level will start.

Similar Games for freel>:

Don't forget you can get a whole raft of match three games for free fromHERE (MyPlayCity) and HERE (Gametop). (There’s around 60 different games including online versions, some of which are really good examples of the match three genre; {including previous giveaways such as Inca Ball, Around the world in 80 Days, Flower Story, Halloween Night: Pumpkin Match, Story of Fairy Place, Greedy spooks, The Rise of Atlantis, Fishdom, The Treasures of Montezuma, Trio: The Great Settlement, and Atlantis Quest}), as well as new additions such as the brilliant Sproink, which you find in the Puzzle section not the match three (technically it’s not a match 3, but does rely on colour to remove tokens from the paying arena.). Please do make sure you uncheck all boxes with respect to toolbar and home page hijacking before installing any games from these sites. Also remember that your browser will open once you shut any game from these sites down, but this is totally innocuous and leaves no traces on your computer once shut down. You could say it’s useful because both sites add new games regularly (especially MyPlayCity), so it gives you the opportunity to check out the site for new games. :) If you like Egyptian themed match threes, MPC has recently added another one called Treasure Pyramid

More Free Gamesl>:

If match threes aren't your thing then go check the giveaway forums. This week is the third anniversary of the start of the free games project. We have posted around 2000 games over the three year period, covering all genres. Due to a serious computer failure last weekend the games I'd intended to post have been delayed, but I've now started to post some of them and will continue to for the next few weeks. Chazzo has also posted several decent games in one post. Please do go over to the game discussion forums to see if there is anything you fancy. you may find something that you like. You can find the Game Discussion forums via the following link:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/forum/17

Some of Chazzo's games for the anniversary celebrations include Man Enough, Portal: Flash Version, Lunaria, Gravortex, Jumper 3, Fish Face, Earth Jets, Armed Generator Doom Machine, Frak, Auto, Cannibalism, Alien Deathmatch 2 and Anamaton with more to follow.

I've only posted a few so far due to the above problems that include Max-xion 3D, Die Slave and Space Corps: Armageddon, with a really good train sim called BVE4, a few Sky Roads marble rolling games, several more breakouts, and some platformers and puzzle games to follow over the days to come.

For those that are new to the giveaway project check out the Free Games Synopsis which you can find in the stickies on the forums front page. It's not up to date, but you'll still find well over a thousand games posted, with tags to let you know what genre the game is from, plus un-listed games in the games discussion forums from week 100 onwards to week 156. (I'm working on adding all of the unlisted games over the coming months).

Failed to connect.... using Firefox but opened Internet Explorer and found it was working offline... set it to work online as per Mr. Snoozles comment last week... closed Internet Explorer. This then activated immediately. Note that it was Internet Explorer which I never use that was set offline, while Firefox had already been "online." Thanks Mr. Snoozles.

It is a match-3-game, like any other match 3 game.

There is a story, but the story (always a different one) does not really make the game different (you could even easily forget about the story to play the game).

There are graphics, so one game will more appeal to you then another.
I think they did a good job,it all looks well.

There is the game, basically they are all similar, but there are also differences in the way you can score.

For me this is just another match-3-game, but I'm sure many will like it. It is also just as good as any other match-3-game.
