Sounds good except there is no way to minimize it. I can't switch to another program. It stays on the whit screen. It doesn't help to click anywhere on the screen. The only option is to end task in program manager. I should say that this is the only time I've had a problem with a game here so it seems strange.

The Game:

The usual options are available, i.e. toggle full screen to windowed (defaults to full screen), sound effects and music sliders and a toggle to turn off the tutorial. You'll also find power ups, locking elements and other special elements such as infinity gems and spiders to collect or contend with. If you select to run the tutorials (set by default) the first two levels will help you along your way.

The Trials of Olympus is very similar to last weeks match three game Amanda's Sticker Book. The same options, the same power ups and the same game mechanics. The differences are the story, the elements and instead of a sticker book you have to build your palace, which is build over the whole of the game. Each chapter includes four pieces of the palace. You unlock new parts to the palace i.e. Meadowland, the Havencrest Tower, Silverwind Blacksmith and the shrine of Olympus by completing sets of elements. when you collect enough you will unlock a new part which can then be bought. As the palace is being built the rating shown at the top of the playing area will change from cursed to ordinary to good and onwards. The palace is built over the whole of the games chapters, i.e. Myredfall Forest, Aramoor Mountain, Winterland, Ilragorn Desert and the Dark Crystal Island, each introducing new elements and story to the game. The first chapter Myrefall forest where fairies have lived since the Earth was created. New elements will be discovered here, but you must be careful not to disturb the centaur that lives withing the forest.

To help get through the more difficult levels you've got three different power ups, the Axe for removing a single tile, a potion bomb for removing a small group of tiles (4) and the magic pendant which enables you to clear/collect all of the same element; it also removes gold tiles under those elments and unlocks chains above those elements. This is a very useful power up for collecting elements that you need to collect to complete a level. Each level is awarded one, two or three stars depending on how quick you complete the level, this does add a little stress to the game if you are a player who likes to attain the top grade in each level, but those of you who are not as bothered, the game can be very pleasing in what it throws at you. Because I was constantly looking for screen captures and stopping to write notes for the review I usually take much longer to complete a level so rarely got three stars, but I never ran out of time and never felt like I was going to run out of time. you can see how much time you have via the indicator to the right of the game board.

Each level has specific requirements to complete; you have to collect the elements shown at the top of the board, sometimes only two types of element, but sometimes more. At least one of those requirements will be to clear away all the tiles that are located beneath elements, which appear to comprise of several different elements depending on which level you are on. Later on there will be more layers added, making it harder to complete that requirement, but that's only to be expected in this genre. The further into the game you progress, the harder the levels become. Some of the elements you'll see early on in the game include animals. more elements are added as you move through the area's of the land. Creating matches fills the mana meter/power meter, which in turn unlocks one of the three power ups. When you create a match of four you fill the energy meter slightly faster than with match three's, and if you create a match 5 or more you get a double energy bonus filling the mana meter even faster. When the meter is full it unlocks a power up.

Locking elements are introduced from the first level . You will see chains across some of the elements, these can be removed by creating a match with the locked element. Locked elements can also be removed using any of the power ups. Double locks are introduced later in the game; these can be removed in one go by using a power up. From level 3 onward you can collect a new element called the Infinity Gem, that you have to move to the bottom of the board to collect. If there is a locked element below the gem you will need to clear that locked element first before the gem will move down.

To purchase certain upgrades you do need to collect spiders, which appear near the end of chapter 1 onward. These are collected (or defeated) in the same was as the infinity gems are by creating matches beneath them except they move around freely on the board. Once you've created a match under them they will fall off the board. Spiders also leave spiders webs that lock elements in place like other locking elements and are also cleared in the same way as a chain by creating a match with them. If you clear a web before the spider has been removed the spider runs off and you won't get the spider added to the spider counter. When a star appears above the elements counter list to the top left of the board it indicates that you can afford a palace upgrade. At the end of each chapter you get a boss level, where spiders abound and you have to make as many matches as quickly as you can to defest the boss before he steals away your time.

Other points to note: You can create matches while the previous matches are still under way, you don't need to fill the mana meter to gain the axe power up (it usually appears when you've filled about a third of the indicator). Sometimes it seems that there are not enough elements to complete the requirement, for example the gold squares, however, new ones appear when you've cleared them to ensure you can complete the level. If you decide to leave a level before it is completed, when you return you will have to start that level from the beginning. Finally, it's not easy to attain three stars in most levels unless you are very focus and like a challenge.

Conclusion:

After playing the game into chapter 2, I found this to be virtually the same as Amanda's sticker book, except for the story and graphical changes, also instead of a sticker book, you build a palace, so my conclusion is basically the same as last weeks game.

i.e.

I can recommend this game to all levels of expertise from beginner to expert match three player. There's something for everyone in this game. Although the graphic lends itself to the younger player, I do think they will struggle to complete later levels unless supported by their parents. Overall a very satisfying game. This one is definitely a keeper for me. I'll probably buy it eventually. hoping to see it on Steam soon.

The only real negative is the inability to go back to previous levels. This would have been a nice addition to the game, especially to those wanting to upgrade their star scores.

A shock.....Why??

Each to their own. I quite liked this game, but as always try to score a game on it's merits and not on my feelings for it. It has all of the elements that make a match 3 a pleasure to play, so I think it's worth a 7 going on 8.

Like Amanda's Sticker Book I get a white screen when started up the game. I have to end the game via the Task Manager. I suppose the games are not compatible with my Surface Pro. Fortunately the TM games do work and I still have loads of HO games to finish, so I will not get bored and am not too disappointed. Thank you for the game. Would have loved to play it, but alas. By the way Lisa's fix did not work.

Hi,

It uploaded quickly on 8.1 and loaded easily. There was a disclosure that the game may run slow on 7 or 8. It ran fine without any hitches. I like games in this genre. This one so far is run of the mill, but still enjoyable. I played to the 2nd site to see if any difference but none really. The graphics by today's standards are average. The story is the same as with most of the old world tales. Don't know why but kept forgetting to use the power ups, but really don't need them yet, maybe more so as levels go higher.

Perfect, quick installation (Win 7 64 bit.) I did have to find the game after installation (C:\Games) then put a shortcut to it on my desktop. Once there, I clicked on it and started playing it. Everything so far is flawless. Looks like fun. Thanks so much, GAOTD and E-FunSoft!

Downloaded and plays without problem on my 64-bit Win7. The matching is quick-response and the power-ups are good, but I quit at the start of the second world: I'm not into the story, and I was bored -- just not my genre, so no vote.

This reminded me of 'The Enchanted Islands' game, so if you liked that, or match-3's in general, you'll like this game.

I am running windows 10 64 bit and got the game installed without issue.

Downloaded and extracted files.
@Larry Peart You do not need an app to open then .gcd file. After unzipping the downloaded folder you only need to run the setup file, not the setup.gcd file.

By default the game will install to C: Games.
Normally I let the games install there and then move the shortcut into a folder on my desktop that I keep games.

The game contains 2 dll files within its folder, when clicking the shortcut on my desktop I got the error bass.dll could not be found. The solution was moving the shortcut back into its folder and opening it from there.
Although there are other solutions eg: copying the dll file to the C:/windows/system32 - repairing your net framework etc.. DLL files of the same name can be used by other games etc. and if overwritten will cause other programs to no longer work.
I have found it best practice to leave the file structure intact when installing and launch the program from within that folder. This way all dll files stay within the program folder for which their use was intended and save you a dll nightmare down the road.
Hope that helps those who were unaware of this.

After launching the game, a message displays:
Notice: This game may RUN SLOWLY on some PCs with Windows 8 or Windows 10 due to their new DirectX system. This game runs best on Windows XP and Windows 7. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Hope that helps with some of the installation issues that were encountered today.

Got up early this afternoon, downloaded without reading comments, moved on to doing other things. Installed this evening and played a couple rounds before coming here to read comments.
Yes, I too noticed siilarities to Amanda's Sticker Book, but the theme and graphics are certainly less silly, less
"Girly" and, to me, much preferable. (The art style in Amada's - especially her weird face - sort of creeps me out.) And I appreciated their warning "may run slow, made for XP" which most certainly does apply to A..man...das...stick...er...boooook. As a result I was quite pleasantly surprised by how fast this game ran in comparision - easily as quick as the best games from here.
I run an HP Pavilion that came with Windows 7 but was upgraded to Windows 10. I do disable Avira PC Protection very briefly while installing giveaways. I use U-Verse. It was a fairly quick download (didn't really time it since I was doing other things), a fast and reliable install and I have not yet noticed any of the slow-downs or lags reported by others.
If anyone passed on this either because of the comparison to Amanda's (It is a very similar game but with a much more pleasing appearance) or the reported lags and slowdowns (which many here confirmed but I have not experienced), well, there are still a few hours left to try it for yourself and decide.
For me, it's a keeper.

I get the white screen and then a screen that says Place Logo Here. Made me laugh. The game plays fine afterwards.

But I have to wonder, Angels and Fairies mixed in with Greek Gods? What? Pretending it has nothing to do with Olympus allows it to all work in my head. :)

I hate to to admit that I really disliked the changes with the website layout but it has grown on me. I still don't like it but I don't feel the need to quit visiting anymore so that is an improvement.

Thanks for the tip about avoiding dealing with FB or email. This week It just downloaded for me when I hit the download button, no request for sharing or asking for my email. Don't know why but it worked the way it used to. I understand the reason why the site made the change but also appreciate not needing to deal with it.

Seems to install ok and i found it where it wa supposed to be in C/games - made a shortcut, however when I try to run the game, I just get a white screen. I need to use Task Manager to close. I am using a brand new Windows 10, 64 bit computer. ( ie not updated one) Tried everything suggested and what i can think of. This happened with the last games as well. Hope i have better luck with the next game

Downloaded and installed with NO problems (no white screen) in my Win xp 32bit pc .
I've played for a few minutes (had to go somewhere) .
Looks like a nice mach 3 game .

Win 10 Home 64bit. Game load quickly and play just as quick. There was a note before the game saying that the game will be slow for Win8 and Win10 and they apologized but it played fine for me. Wasn't slow at all. Thank you for the match 3 game.

Same here, ran perfectly on my win 10 computer. I no longer have win 8 installed so can't confirm whether there has been a problem there. It could be that i do have older versions of Direct X 9.0c installed on my computer.

If anyone is getting a slow down, they should try downloading an older copy, which I'm sure will still be found somewhere online. If you have any old disk based programs try installing that and allow the installation to install the older DX 9 as well. That may solve the problem for those who are having slow downs..

Did you check to see if your security was blocking the installation? as I've mentioned many times; the game is wrapped to protect it from hackers. The wrapper contains Themida code which is often seen as a threat by security software and is then blocked. If this happens you will get that message. It's a shame you've actually given it a thumbs down without even trying the game.

Doesn't work for me either. I hit the exe file and it says it's checking to see the giveaway is live and that's it. Just disappears and does nothing more. Don't like being forced to share on Facebook either. In the end it didn't but I do hate that and it will probably stop me from coming here again which surely isn't the aim.

I understand the communities dislike with respect to being forced to do things such as sign in to a FB account or use an email. I can see why the giveaway team felt the need to do that. That is to spread the word especially via Facebook as the more people use the giveaway site, the more likely we will get more games.

The good news is, you don't really need to use either, just pretend to do so. I ended up using my sons and daughters old FB accounts, but when I cleaned my cookies I lost the passwords and instead of changing them I thought, hmmm! I'm not that bothered abut this giveaway, so I cancelled the window that was asking for my name and password to sign into FB . That closed then I got the green download button appearing. since then I'd just clicked on the Facebook button, then cancelled it and I've got the download.

Worked fine Windows 10 x64 Pro. Ran from internal D: drive. Made desktop shortcut. Decent game for Match 3 fans. Sliders for music & sound. Seems bit of a challenge but playable. Not sure what happens if Timer runs out. Guess just try again (often easier that time in many of these M3 games). No Relaxed but seemed to offer
enough time from fast look. Thanks GOTD.

Install the game and then go to the following folder C:/Games/The trial of Olympus and then take the .exe and make a shortcut to your desktop. To start the game run TheTrialsOfOlympus.exe shortcut and it will work.

This is all I did so I dont understand what the problem is of others who seem to cant get it to run.

It could be security conflicts, or conflicts with other software installed, or more likely the way they have their computer set up. Even something as banal as not updating drivers or running a defrag occasionally can be the culprit.

I haven't downloaded it to my Win 8.1 laptop yet but it works fine on my Win 7 (64 bit). I did have to do one thing to that install to get it to work the way I wanted -- told it to ignore high DPI settings. It took my command to go windowed but then didn't do it! I exited, set the flag and restarted and it was windowed.

So far, the only irritant is that it ignores my setting for the music until after it loads! It knows windowed right away so why not my volume setting for music!

Other than that, it plays like other match 3 games.

One question -- how do you know what qualifies for 3 star vs. lesser ratings for a level? It assigns the stars but doesn't seem to give any other info.

At this time - 920am PST - it will not even allow me to download it. Frustrating. I love match 3s as well.

IHi Susan, please excuse the late reply. Try downloading the game again, but turn off your security temporarily. The game comes with a Themida wrapper which is sometimes seen as a threat and may be blocked by anti malware programs. If that doesn't solve the problem, immediately after trying to download, check the event logs (type Event Viewer in the search bar) to see if there are any messages that will shed light on the problem.

Sub 30 second download. Installed without a hitch. Once launched the first white screen has a box with "Insert Name Here" or something to that effect. Main Menu greets you with a warning that game may run slow on Windows 8 computers. I did not notice any drag or delays on Win 10, A8, R5, 6GB.

On the game itself, it loads very quickly. There are extremely long dialogs in between Match 3 games. Fortunately there is a skip button. Decent short and easy Match 3 levels with decent graphics. If you are Match 3 fan, you have played this game before with a different name and different objects.

Played fine on Windows 8.1 (if you get a white screen at first, or clicking "anywhere" to begin minimizes it, just close it out and open it again. That's what worked for me.).
But... level 1-4... needed the last jewel to fall. No last jewel. I played and played and played waiting for one to appear at the top, but it never showed up. I played a long time too!
Don't like the building aspect. I like my match-3s to be just match-3s.

Sigh - this is the 3rd game I get nothing than a white screen from - I went throught the help/FAQ files and have no idea what to do.

Will try the next one again to see if this will work again one day.

I am nearly sure I dis-adjusted something the first time this occured but have no idea what it could be.

Sorry for the late reply. It's probably your security software that is blocking the installation. The game is wrapped in a Themida based wrapper to protect it from hackers. This is also seen as a threat by some anti malware programs. To get it to run you may need to temporarily turn off your security.

Did you unpack the all files to one location first?

By installation there is no shortcut made on the desktop, if you installed on the standard location you can find the game here C:\Games\The Trials of Olympus
You can create a shortcut by rightclick on the game and select 'sent to...' and 'desktop 9create shortcut)'

yes, windows unzipped the files and after opening the unzipped folder i then clicked the "setup" file which opened with Winrar (which seems strange). Then clicked "extract" to C:\games ..... but the game is not in that folder or anywhere on the computer

The mechanics of this game are exactly the same as 'Amanda's Sticker Book' but with different graphics and story. Both are very cutesy, mildly entertaining match 3 games with a quest/tasking element. The producer of 'The Trials of Olympus' kindly offered a warning that the game might run slowly on a windows 8/10 machine and that the game runs best on XP. Wile this is a great thing they did, it might not be totally necessary. I found the game only lagged maybe once or twice during game play. However so, I do think they need to work on resolution problems. I don't expect the best out of games like these but they could do a little bit better with higher quality graphics. People play these types of games to relax and a lot of the draw is the 'prettiness' of the tokens.

The game mechanics are identical to Amanda's Sticker Book, but with a different theme and graphics. Match 3 lovers will enjoy this game, but it's not for beginners to the genre, because it is much more challenging than your basic match 3. The different board layouts and blocks are made more for a match 3 veteran that is looking for a challenge. You really need to know how to manipulate the items to make useful ones drop where you need them. From the start, you are faced with more items on the board than a simpler match 3.
Overall, it's a good game to add to your library.

Downloaded game with no problem. However when tried to start up game found out it was 32 bit and not 64 and could not run it on my PC which is 64 bit . Is there a 64 bit version? Disappointed.

By me twice a bit slower in 2 Hours play time, didn't influence gameplay.

The plus in this game is that you can swap tiles while others are still falling, can give awesome combinations saw the 9 tile combo for the first time 9used a bubble to pop on the correct symbol.

Malheureusement le jeu n'existe pas en langue française...il faudrait traduire le fichier "\TheSpell_Game\assets\common\language\english\strings.xml" ou jouer en anglais avec un dictionnaire en ligne tel que http://www.systranet.com/fr/traduction par exemple.
A priori, dans le jeu, les objets cachés sont identifiés automatiquement toutes les 10 secondes...Voilà, bon jeu.
Mais en ce qui me concerne l'affichage se fait mal sur mon PC : il reste décentré sur la gauche...et du coup je n'ai pas encore beaucoup joué.

Downloaded 6 times now, after removing every trace each time. Still opens to a white screen and fails to do anything else. Win 10 64bit, ran compatibility mode down to vista, nothing helped me out. will continue to mess around for a bit and try to get it working
