The Old Little Hut:

In Brief:
The Old Little Hut is another of those Gamiron competition games where the developer has a specific amount of time to create a game. In this case this is the 12th Gamiron competition. The one we received the other day was for the 11th.

The game appears to be a simple puzzle platformer with cute graphics. You pick up mushrooms, though there's no counter to say how many you've picked up, nor is there any apparent reason for picking them up apart from they are included in the brief story introduced by the developer. There are sections of the game where you need to place/move blocks to be able to reach higher platforms; these are pushed into place. Initially I only progressed as far as the waterfall area and was not able to figure out how to go further. After numerous attempts at trying to gain the platform on the other side of the waterfall I gave up.

However, I returned to the game later and after more failed attempts at trying to jump onto a platform near the waterfall, I decided to try back tracking. Initially I was knocked over, and after a few text messages, I was able to continue and discovered that you did have to back track, once you got to the waterfall area. As this is a puzzle platformer, I won't spoil the rest of the game by telling you except to say that from experience of playing these competition games over the years; they are rarely lengthy efforts and can often be completed very quickly.


The game does give you instructions on what key bindings there are; see the Controls section below (or look at the images). I tried a controller as well, but it didn't respond to any of the buttons or direction controls.

Developers Introduction:
A little boy named Robin went to the forest with his parents to pick mushrooms. But, not listening to his mother, he went too far and got lost. Wandering through the woods, the boy realizes that this forest is not so simple. It hides many secrets! Under cover of darkness, Robin finds a small hut in a forest. You, together with the main character will plunge into the atmosphere of a fairy tale! Help Robin find his way back home and return to his parents.

A - Walk left

W - Jump

Conclusion:
The game looks ideal for a young child around 8 to 10 years old.
