So sorry for the late review...
Super Cubes is the bees knees! My son and I have been working with this quite often and it is a great educational tool. Super Cubes definitely helps to develop your relational thinking skills and I believe children as young as 3 or 4 can benefit, even if they just watch the progressions made by an older child or an adult.
Installation was flawless and even after a few dozen plays there have been no glitches. My son loves being able to change the type of block during the game. One does this by "quitting" the game, changing the block style under options, then starting play.
When you start play, any unfinished game can be continued by simply choosing "Yes."
We give Super Cubes 10 out of 10. Great stuff!

@#45 Weezie, thanks for your comments.
Yes, there is a choice of 'normal' or 'arcade' style of play, but not for 'easy', 'normal', & 'difficult' level of difficulty within those styles. That's a feature I'd like to see.
Also, while it is true that you can skin the cubes to different colors or patterns, the game still takes place in a little boy's play room - at least for the several levels I could play before getting my daughter off to bed. I'd like for it to be available in environments matching the cube skins you can choose, or just in different environments - this could widen the game's appeal. The play room idea seems limiting to me.
Just my 2 cents - hope you enjoy the game!

My apologies for posting after the giveaway period, but I managed to forget to write my suggestions last night lol
Anyway, I like the game and think it's good in bursts. However, I'm completely awful at it and didn't get a chance to play it as long as some of the other giveaways.
Some things that struck me right away:
-The font is a little uncomfortable. It's charming for a title font, but it was slightly harder to read on the tutorial.
-The 3D renders nicely at my resolution (1280x800), but the 2D stretches very uncomfortably.
-Game hangs on exit and makes an error noise (with no error window) before finally closing.
-Minor thing, but the registration button is awkwardly worded. It's not confusing at all, but could've been worded differently.
Otherwise, it's a nice game, but gets pretty repetitive. My screen filled up so quickly, I didn't get far enough to really comment on gameplay, but I do like the concept. It's another game I'll play in between my regular games. Also, the ability to change skins was a nice addition, and the tutorial was helpful.
Thanks GGAOTD and Playrix!

No one will probably read this since it's past the giveaway time but just in case...
#4-Whiz-FYI...ALL blocks are unmovable the point being that you use the bombs to blow them up. You have to use the bombs to blow up ALL blocks in order to get to the next level. The reason why you start or restart in the same situation is because the game is saved where you quit. Therefore, it is NOT a design fault!
#6-Wingman-There is NO such thing as malware, virus or whatever in GGOTD games!!! NEVER!!! So you let Norton (which IMHO is crap), dictate you out of a game PLUS another software from GOTD. Ever heard of false positive? I've NEVER had ANY anti-virus warnings when it comes to downloads from here.
#19-App 103-Way to go!!! Applauds the fact that someone took the initiative to do something about it.
#25-TwOnst3r-FYI there IS a choice of normal...plus there IS also a choice of skins or colors and forms for the cubes.
#28-Former user/visitor-GGOTD already has it's loyal members!!! So your MISwritten rantings probably went unread after the 2nd word/mistake. As a visitor, I do NOT usually visit places I DISLIKE.
#29 and on...Same thing happened to me in Canada but since I had downloaded it on my Vista HP x64 earlier in the day, had PC problems for a while then I later installed it without problems. But I also would like to know what happened?
Thanks GGOTD or GGOTW *Gamegiveaway of the week (Lol) and thank you Playrix for this game.
Have a wondeful week everyone :-)

Re up this one(also Zombie Launcher, never linked) you take it down two hours before it should be and yesterday's game was not even linked from main page. I missed both because bad posted and early removals all the time. Some times its one hour, 2 hours, or more. Apparently today app which is useless has 2 hours left but the game is in a different time zone. Re up (Password organizer, from 28th) since you took it down 1 or 2 hours ahead of time and I really needed that one that day.

This definitely captured the attention of my 5-1/2 year old daughter! She thought it was fun until it started to get overrun with new cubes coming up. So, perhaps a suggestion is to allow "easy, normal, hard" levels for different age levels to play.
I didn't have time to change cube skins - liked this feature - so don't know if it changes the nursery room environment. If not, please consider other themes for the 'offboard' environment - space, fantasy, color patterns, etc - that don't pigeonhole this game only as a kid's game. Because I found it fun and challenging, too!
A slight hesitation and error sound, but no actual error code or other problems when exiting on my Vista laptop.
Overall, thumbs up for this fun puzzler! Thanks to the develops and GGotD!

Does anybody have a way to fix this nice game (which I won't be playing again unless a solution to this malfunction gets posted).
Thanks to everybody and obviously to Stephen for his amazing dedication.

for those who have problems installing, here is a simple solution.
go to the webpage of the game, and download the game from there. install normally, and use the key in the file that you get when you downloaded from here. insert the key in the offline registration in the game, not the online registration and add any name you want. game will be activated for life.

I've noticed a lot of complaints about Norton's recent practice of blocking almost EVERY Setup.exe - from either Game Giveaway or the Giveaway site itself - as dangerous. I am finding it really irritating, myself, but, I've found you can right-click on the Setup.exe in question, click on "Norton File Insight" which, at least on my computer, is down near the bottom of the menu, and, when the box comes up, click on the third option - the option where it says "Trust Now" (assuming you trust the Giveaway sites, that is). Click on those two little words, and that section will change from "Unproven" to "User Trusted". Then you can continue the installation without any problems - as Norton usually doesn't complain further (except if it's a keylogger type program or something similar), once the actual Setup is extracted... You have to do this every single time now if you have Norton, because it otherwise deletes them at least ninety percent of the time.
As for the game, I downloaded this one the first time it was offered, and haven't played it recently. However, even though I'm not really a fan of "Lines" type games, I did find this one quite enjoyable for short periods of time, even if the graphics seemed just a little blurry. Nevertheless, it's cheerful and colorful - so I quite liked it.

If Norton is throwing a false positive on this game, please file a report here: http://falsepositivereport.com
Our site is a non-profit community effort to become a central location on the internet where people can report false positives and we publicly collect as many reports as we can so the antivirus companies can take responsibility for them, fix the problems, and prevent future false positives from occurring. (our primary long term goal is prevention)
Too many developers and small businesses have been hurt, had their reputations ruined and their businesses destroyed by false positives and we feel this has to stop. The antivirus companies need to be held accountable.
So, please help small developers like the one that created this game by filing a report. It will be paid back to you some day with better antivirus products that throw less false positives.
Moderator: There is a thread about this in the forums and I was lead to believe that it has the full support of GAOTD, so I didn't think this post would be considered spam, considering there was a false positive thrown on this game. http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/10483

The game played ok, but got an exception error, screwed up icons. Restarted the computer. Played again. The game locked up, so had to hit ctrl-alt-delete. Tried to play some more, but game just too unstable for reliable play. Tis a shame! I like the game, graphics, and all! Just that you never know what undesirable will happen next. Regrettably, had to uninstall it. BTW, I have Win XP, which is up to date. In short, if you can get it to play reliably, you should really like the game!

I'm presuming you managed to unpack the zip file? Assuming that is correct you could download the demo from the provider:
http://www.terminalstudio.com/super-cubes.shtml
I did mention in my review that you can use the reg code provided via the 'Read Me' to register that demo as well. Hopefully the demo downloaded from Terminal studios should work. If you get the same problem with that version then there is probably a fault wth your computer. no one else has mentioned this problem (there have been approaching 5000 downloads so far)

Have installed it but - the instructions refer to somewhere to enter the registration number - either my friend and I are stupid, the instructions are wrong or the game doesn't do what it's supposed to. There is nowhere to enter any registration number that we can find and the game just plays in demo mode :-(

When you start the game up for the first time you should see a window like the following:
Click on the button at the bottom of the window that says Full version s Here. That opens up the registration window which you can see below. Fill in the registration code that you can copy from the read me and type in your own name or leave it blank, then click on the finish registration button :
You should now own a registered copy - Simplz ;-)

Yes you are right; I've amended my post above  My head must have been away with the stars at the time. No matter (for me and you), I've purchased all of the bundles previously (and I think you’d mentioned that you also have purchased the previous bundles as well) and have contributed again as I wanted Trauma and Splot. and already have Frozen Byte on Steam (I felt my previous donations were not up to scratch {$10 per bundle} considering the quality of the games, so don't mind paying out again even if I’m given most of the games I've already purchased previously. I'm wondering whether I’ll be able to give the Steam keys away?)

Sorry for the delay in replying my internet connection has been down for a few hours. The giveaway teams tet all softwares throughly with several different malware programs. I've never ever received any malware from any giveaway I've ever downloaded and i've been downloading virtually every day since late November 2006. The result you are getting is almost certainly a false positive. Norton are notorious for such readings.

..................Moderator comment................
I agree, there needs to be more variety with lots of power ups and maybe mini games. Though it's okay for the odd minute as a time filler. Definitely not worth the $19.99 that's quoted. Those prices were acceptable 5 years ago, but since the recession hit arcade games generally have dropped in price to less than $10. Places like Big Fish games and Gamehouse sell these sorts of games for peanuts now.

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.
Problems installing, activating and running today’s game:l>Please leave some feedback once you’ve checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain why your reasons for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.
Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.
Regards
Whiterabbit aka Stephen
If you have difficulty downloading or activating the game you can try again later or do one of the following - for example once downloaded when you click on the dual activation and set up file you may get the message “Failed to connect. Please try again later” Check to see if your internet explorer isn't offline (thanks to MrSnoozles/Mike and GMMan for that fix). If the previous suggestion doesn't work go check out previous comments from the last several weeks and look for comments from GMMan and Mike. They have also posted their possible fixes for this problem.
Mike suggests that you check to see if Internet Explorer is offline (even if you use firefox). If it is make sure that it's online thn try again. I’ve always tried re-booting my modem and/or router with some success, though Mike has said that doing that does nothing. Still, it’s worth a try if all else fails.
Other fixes include changing your screen resolution, installing the latest direct X (remember thta XP uses DX 9 or earlier only, Vista uses DX 10 or before and Win 7 DX11 or before). Also try updating your graphics drivers. The main two chip manufacturers are NVIDIA and ATI both of which offer driver downloads for free. Just go to the respective manufactures home page and you'll find a link to the driver download page. To find out which graphic card or graphics chip your computer uses type in Dxdiag in the search field (Vista or Win 7) or the run command (XP); this opens up the DirectX diagnostics panel. click on the display tab and look to the left panel. You should easily see what graphics card or chip you are using. (This is required information when selecting the correct download from the developers site).
Installationl>:
The game downloads as a 7.7MB zip file that unpacks to a wrapped set up file and a read me that contains the terms & conditions plus a registration code. When you install the game it will present you with the option to play it as a demo or for you to register it. Clicking on this opens up the registration window. It asks for a name and code. You can use your own name plus the code found in the read me. A shortcut is placed on the desktop and in the Start Menu? Programs list. You’ll also find an uninstaller in the programs list. The installed game is 14.7MB in size. The game installs to:
C:\Program files (x86)\Super cubes (64 bit)
Or
C:\Program files\Super cubes (32 bit)
Introductionl>:

The Gamel>:
This is a decent blocks game that my kids loved when it was first given away. They played it for several days before finding another giveaway that interested them (that was when we got giveaways every day).
There are several skins you can choose from the main options menu (there are two options menu’s) and two game modes normal and arcade. The only difference between the two modes is that the arcade mode is timed, though from the help menu that pops up at the start of a new game (unless you’ve toggled it off) is exactly the same.
You have to create blocks of four cubes in a square or by using the pattern from the designated one found to the right of the playing arena. Completing the one that is shown to the right of the playing area will give you a bonus. The more matches you make during one turn the greater the points you are awarded. The designated pattern may contain more blocks than the four you need for the basic pattern of a square. You can combine shape, for example you may be asked to create a line of four cubes, but you can build up a square of four as part of this pattern and will be rewarded with a higher score. Though the larger the pattern you try to build the more likely that it could fail because after each turn new cubes appear randomly on the board. The more turns you take the harder it becomes to create the designated pattern due to the board being filled with different patterns.
The only bonus item I saw was the bomb, which to activate you have to move to wherever you want it used.
The normal mode is saved when you leave the game but the arcade mode isn’t.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTSl>:
• Pentium II 233 Mhz
• 8 Mb Video Memory
• DirectX 8.0 or Higher
• DirectX-compatible sound card
• Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP
Problems with the gamel>:
The game played fine but when I exited the game I received an error message that said Exception EInvalid Pointer in module Super Cubes.exe…….I had to shut the game down via control alt delete and then found that all my icons on the desk top and within folders had disappeared, though the names of each icon were still visible. I had to restart my computer using the task manager because the start menu had also disappeared to get the icons back.
I also received an access violation error a couple of times that had a different address to the first error, but each time the super cubes executable was referenced.
Conclusionl>
The 3D graphics are okay though not ground breaking and the game play is okay in short doses. I found playing it for more than half an hour became a little tedious, but initially I really enjoyed playing the game so will score this a 7 out of 10 for family fun and a reasonable challenge.
You can change the in game music by going to the games folder and opening up the music folder. You will need to convert your chosen music to the ogg format which is easy enough to do using one of the many audio converters we’ve been given via the giveaway project, or from the net; there are plenty of freeware audio converters available. You must rename the files you’re going to use to the same ones that are in the music folder. I suggest you back up these before you change the music though just in case you do something wrong.
Alternativesl>
There have been some excellent freeware games posted over in the forums or you could go over to Realore (a previous game giveaway client) that now run their own game giveaway every Friday (the game is available at least until the end of the weekend). This week’s free game is Ashton’s Family Resort. Then there’s Sandlot games; they have a weekly giveaway that rolls over every Monday. This week’s game (until tomorrow) isCake Mania 2.
