If that doesn't work check the comments made below and last week for suggestions and other fixes. Thank you.
also just noticed that the free game over on Origin has changed to the excellent FPS game Medal of Honor Pacific Assault. It's a little dated compared to the latest FPS games, but is still a great game with excellent graphics. It was released around 2005 so should easily play on most computers of today.

In Brief

Star Sky 2 is a pleasant and artful walking simulator that's very different to our usual game giveaways. If you like something different to our usual giveaways, then this may be the game for you. It's not a long game, and I would advise playing this in short bursts. Each play-through takes just moments to complete, but there are many outcomes, so the game has lots of replayability. IMO Star Sky 2 is an ideal accompaniment to your tea or coffee break in between games with more substance or as a welcome break from more stressful endeavors.

Suggestions:

For those who find this game not to their liking, instead of posting a few words saying you think this is a waste of time, or other words to that effect, would you instead give some positive feedback. What i mean by that is, 'how would you improve the game. this is an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their sponsors would like to see in a game'. Though do please consider that this was conceived by the creator as an artful project, not an action game, match three, breakout, time management or other puzzle like game; just a walking simulator. For example, you could suggest extra content that you would like to see in the game, that would make it more appealing to you. I personally would like to see at least one point in each walk-through where you could (if you wished) select to play a short mini game that would add more substance. Giving a choice would then add that extra some community members feel is missing from this game, but would also keep the original game more or less intact as the developer originally saw it.

Star Sky 2 continues the story set by the previous one, with a similar style of game-play. There are more choices and most importantly, more consequences. Learn from the choices you make, and see the different paths a life can take, and the scenarios that unfold. The game is a slow experience meant as a way to get lost in you thoughts, to feel the game as you are playing, and most importantly, to simply relax.

If you wish to see the problems section, which I've now incorporated into the FAQ's thread you can find it HERE and the recent games deals (now called The Weekly roundup of game deals) is HERE. I've still to post the installation section. Will do so later. In the meantime, if you have problems installing the game, do post a comment, thank you.

The Game:

Released on my favorite gaming platform Steam on the 2nd March Star Skies has so far only garnered positive reviews from the Steam community. (only three, but it's a good start). The game is a walking simulator with a meditative feel to it. There's no action, just some artful graphics and a pleasant soundtrack; an ideal chill out game that will see the stresses of the day lifting after a few moments of game play. I purchased this on Steam already, and have enjoyed the short time I've played the game. At the most you'll get around 45 minutes worth of game play out of the game before it becomes too much. Each play through will ony take a few moments, but there are many outcomes, so there's lots of replayability at least until you've exhausted all of the outcomes. I found playing it in short sessions was a pleasure and recommend this game to anyone who appreciates game as an art form. If you're expecting an action game, something with a story or something with more substance to it, then don't bother downloading this, however, if you appreciate game art, this is an excellent find from the game giveaway team.

star sky 2 005
star sky 2 007
It's no puzzle game, hidden object, time management or action game, just a pleasant walk through some monochromatic but intriguing imagery. If you were to purchase this game it would cost you less than a large cup of coffee from one of the many coffee houses, so please do consider this when posting comments. :)

You can get the first game Star Sky for £0.70 at the moment as it has 70% off it's usual price, at least until Monday 28th March 6pm GMT.

The main menu has no options, but you can select either English or Japanese languages. Also there is a short section under 'How to Play' and a hint toggle.

star sky 2 009
star sky 2 010
How to Play Star Sky 2:

To move forward hold the left or right key, depending on which path you are walking. To go left you control the woman and right controls the man. Hold the UP key to run. You are warned that running increases the possibility of missing things in game. Unfortunately this is keyboard only with no mouse input at all unless you have a multi monitor set up and need to click on the game field if you've strayed from the monitor that is showing the game. Once you've started in a particular direction you can no longer return the way you came and you can't swap between the male and female characters, basically you have to play through to the end, thankfully each play-through only takes a few moments. Choices are dichotomous (2 choices); for example, if you choose the female character at the start of the play-through, your first event zone is when you come to the signpost saying 'The Moon Bridges' Standing in this zone you will see the sign changes to a pointing down sign saying Lakeland. At this point you can wait for it to change back to the first choice, or select to go to Lakeland by moving forwards. Once you choose a path, you can't backtrack and take the other choice, you have to follow it through. There will be ample opportunities to try both branches when you play through again.

The object of the game is to unlock all of the events the game has to offer. Only a small proportion of events can be unlocked during each play through, which will only take several minutes (at the most) to reach the end. When you do reach the end for the first time you can see various outcomes that could have been if you'd selected a different dichotomy branch. This final screen will change each time you play through (unless you choose exactly the same branches on a second play-through. To unlock all events you will need to play the game through quite a few times because different events are affected by the situation you find yourself in while in game.

star sky 2 011
star sky 2 012
To trigger events you have to remain stationary within the event zone for a brief period. There are two markers that will tell you when you are near or upon an event; as you approach an event zone music will fade in; when you enter the event zone sparks will start to fly.

1) ... The different paths are all connected in different ways
.
2) ... Observe the changes that remain, they influence the world

3) ... Some changes can only be influenced, activated or deactivated in different sides of the world i.e. whether you choose the male or female path

4) ... Study the paintings at the end because they hold many clues.

Conclusion:

Personally I loved this game. I know it's not got much in the way of substance to it, but I found it really relaxing to play for a few moments in between my more stressful games like my favorite tower defense games or from more action oriented games that I'm playing at the moment such as Tom Clancy's The Division, Far Cry: Primal, or my favorite Elder Scrolls Online, where interactions with other real life players or in the case of Far Cry: Primal, interactions with NPC's (non player characters) that can influence the outcome of the game, means you can't just wander around and relax. For me games have a lot of meaning with respect to how and when I play them. If I need stimulation I'll play an action game, if I need something to get my brain turning over I'll play a puzzle game, however, sometimes i just need to chill out so a game that is more relaxing and much less stressful, is called for. Star Sky 2 fits the bill when I need solitude and no pressure.

If you are going to comment on this game please leave useful feedback, be it positive or negative, and suggest other things you'd like to see that would make playing this game a more positive and/or enjoyable experience. This is the first time today's contributing developer has given a game away here. Lets make a good impression so that he will give us more of his games. Thank you.

I've added more categories to the score board, but I won't be giving an overall average score based on all the categories listed above because each holds a different weight when comparing each category . Overall, I'd give Star Sky 2 a 7.5 out of 10. It is a short game, but I wouldn't have expected any more considering the release price of £2.79/$3.99. Eventually you'll be able to pick this game up for pennies/cents when it goes on sale over on Steam. That said, it's totally free today. :)

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the developer Mårten Jonsson for giving us Star Sky 2 for free today and to the game giveaway team for finding such a gem.

p.s. Mårten, I've already purchased all four of your games on Steam (i.e.
Meadowland, But to Paint a Universe, Star Sky - ブルームーン and of course, today's game giveaway Star Sky 2.

Whiterabbit-uk, Steam is a no-go! The games you buy don´t belong to you. I never will use this or any other of this dubious platforms.

.........................Moderator comment......................................

You could say that for just about all downloadable games. I've already lost hundreds of games that i've bought from what were considered reputable game development houses, that ten went out of buisness, or like reflexive, were bought up by amazon and they wouldn't honor the re activation of the games purchased via Refelxive after several months. Once you changed your computer the activation codes you got from reflexive were no longer acceptable and you had to re apply. Same with Sandalot games. I have about 50 games from Sandalot, which I can no longer play. I could list others, but I'm sure you get my drift. unfortunately a lot of games are no longer released onto disk as it's too castly. And many of the big AAA games that i and thousands of other players want to play are Steam works only, so you have to get steam if you want to play the games.
I'm not that hard nosed to not buy a game just becasue I don't like the method it's being sold through. If i was I'd be missing out on many brilliant AAA games such as the more recent total War games (Empire, Napoleon, Shogun II and Atilla and soon a new one base don Warhammer 40 000, and in some cases indie and arcade games, all of which are only available via Steam works or one of the other platforms such as Origin.
It's a sad state of affairs in some ways as i much preferred my old disk collection, but I wouldn't have shelf space to accommodate my present collection of well over 10 000 games. I have two large shelf units in my study that no longer have room for mt book collection due to my games and video collection Even if i double stacked my games and movies on those helves they woyld barely hold 1500. This state of affairs arose because many ames were being ripped off. Developers had to find ways of preventing gamers from stealing their games. Millions were beig lost due to thievery. thats the main reason DRM was introduced and why we have so many game platforms now. Steam is one of the safest out there simply becasue there are millions of uses online every day using the platform to communicate with friends, sell items they have earned in game, as well as buying games at massive discounts.

Mike, I've had Steam for over 13 years. My husband has had it longer. Both of my children have it. Never have we gotten a game that has not been ours. Any game you purchase is on the Steam Cloud and you can download it again to any computer, numerous times if you need to. In these 13 years I have amassed 75 games and never once has steam spammed me, sold my email address or not allowed me to have what is mine. There is nothing dubious about steam. Also, this game is NOT a steam key, that is the "Enter For Your Chance To Win" game Meridian. This one is a downloadable game, the Free Game Giveaway.

.........................Moderator comment......................................

I agree totally. When I was originally forced into installing Steam (i was definitely a proponent of disks only and did not install game platforms, but the two games I purchased from IGN via their game shop called Direct to Drive, a Tower defense game called Defense Grid: The Awakening and a bowling game called Galactic bowling could only be played if I installed steam. I didn't know what Steam-works meant, so when buying I ignored the word, not thinking much about it. I wasn't a half life or Counter-Stike fan, so had not come across Steam at that point. I was furious and complained, but i loved both games and soon found out about the Steam store. within a week I'd purchased an indie bundle of six games, which if I'd bought via Direct to Drive would have cost me several times a s much. I soon grew to like the platform. since then seven years have passed and the platform has seen a lot of upgrades and a massive increase in community members. If you have a problem with your game, you just have to visit the Steam forums, where virtually all of my gaming woes have been solved over the intervening years. As for owning these games. They are upgraded to the latest versions, whereas my disk versions, barely any of then will now install via the latest operating systems, so, even though I own those disks, I can no longer play most of them anymore. Same with all of my old floppy disk games, which I ended up throwing away because not one would work anymore once I upgraded to XP many years ago.

Keisha, sorry, but in my eyes: You don´t own the game - because you can not install it where and when you like without using Steam. I know that this game is working as giveaway - I made my comment because whiterabbit-uk Steam so "recommends".
Whiterabbit-uk: My critique like I said at the end goes to all of this platforms - not only Steam. You pay for a game but it´s not really yours. But this problem is also by every other SW you buy and must activate by internet. If the company no longer exist you´ll have a problem...

..............................Moderator Comment....................................

Hi Mike, unfprtunately a lot of disk based games are now steam works only. some of the best AAA games released over the last few years have been Steamworks only, or in the case of EA games you need the Origin platofrm, for example, the later DragonAge games and Battlefield 3 and 4. Many of my older disk based games no longer work on my newer computers. i have kept an o;der computer which i keep meaning to install my older copies of windows in the hope that I will still be able to play them. again from around 2005 onwards most AAA games that were sold on disk also included drm, so that when you come to install the game the activation code still has to be verified by the developers servers. With your way of looking at game ownership, in the not too distant future no game will be available for the rest of your life, only for the life of the developer.

That said, I think there will be patches made by the modding community that will be able to overcome many of these restrictions. i have a program that allows me to register 90% of the games i purchased via Reflexive from 2003 to 2008 . Those I will own forever now because I can register them whenever I reinstall them.

If you won't buy games that run on these platforms you are really missing some of the best games ever released (at least from my point of view) i.e. Battlefield 3 and 4, DragonAge franchise, The ArmA franchise *though you can play the earlier versions via disk still) Dead Space franchise, all of the more recent Total War series from Empire: Total War to the present latest release Attila as well as the soon to be released Total War: Warhammer 40 000 oh yes and not forgetting the excellent Mass effect franchise and some of the best MMO's such as The Elder Scrolls Online, Star Trek Online, and Lord of the Rings Online. I bought the deluxe Imperial version of The Elder Scrolls online which cost me over £80, plus for the fist year it cost me a further £140 in server fees till they made it free to Play. I don't regret one bit of the money I spent because I've had over a thousand hours of very enjoyable game play out of that game and still have so much to discover.

Reply   |   Comment by Mike  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Mike, Not to be rude then, but why come to GGOTD at all? These are games you do not buy, you do not own, you can not install them anywhere. It seems a great deal of people on here recently are complaining about a "free meal" essentially. I mean, sure I understand owning the actual disk but I download games from BigFishGames, they are mine, I own them. I can choose to buy them on disk and do not. I have games and movies from Amazon, same thing. Why come to a site that offers you a game you're not purchasing and do not own and then be upset that they offer you a chance at a game that is a game you can download and own on your computer. It's just confusing. I mean, to each his own, I just don't understand the logic myself.

..............................Moderator Comment....................................

I think I know where Mike is coming from because I used to feel the same about digital copies of games, especially those that are not drm free. I've lost hundreds of games that I can no longer register because the game houses have closed or been sold off to bigger concerns who won't honour the original registration. (for example, Sandalot Games, Reflexive games as well as others). Thankfully I can now register 90% of my 900 plus reflexive games because i found one of those illicit code generators online that enables me to reactivate most of the reflexive games, but I've lost over 50 Sandalot games as well as others from less well known developers and distributors. All that said, I feel totally safe with Steam. There are over 50 million community members with at any one time between 6 to 12 million members playing games via the Steam client, so i doubt Valve will disappear, at least not in the foreseeable future. Even if Valve did, there are fixes that can be installed that enables you to play your Steam games without being connected to Steam servers. I would also hope that Valve would have strategies to ensure we all keep out library of games intact if they ever do go bust. Besides, disk versions are not necessarily the best option anymore as i already discovered many of my old favorite games on DVD and CD no longer work, and I dumped over a thousand floppy disk games several years ago. (thankfully most of my favorite games on floppy were available on many of the abandon-ware sites, at least until sites like GOG started searching out the original owners and offering them cash for the rights to sell. When GOG first opened there were still many great games freely available from many abandon-ware sites. most of what is now available is really old games that hardly anyone would purchase (though Atari have just released a package on Steam that contains all of the really old arcade games like breakout and asteroids etc)

WhiteRabbit, I love steam sales. I refer to it as digital crack. I buy games sometimes as low as 19 cents and I own them forever. I've had many hard drive crashes or computer transfers and they go with me. I can buy my kids games and send them via steam as gifts. If their friends are on my list I can get them games too. I love everything from TF2 (free now but we paid ages ago), TFC, I've got Counter Strike that I thought I'd hate but don't, HOG games that I'd wanted on BFG but didn't want to pay $6.99 for...I have a wide range of great games. I don't regret for a moment that I got it. When my son was conned out of his account by a "friend", steam fixed it in no time. That was when they came out with more safety measures. I couldn't be more pleased with them really.

I rarely get problems here though, either with installing or downloading.. so in all the years ive been here one mistake like this is acceptable. :-)

Downloaded the game yesterday but was too tired to try it so i waited until today to see what the game was all about.
As soon as i clicked on the game to play it my firewall popped up that the game has requested an outbound connection. Seemed odd for a game to "phone home" but i allowed it. As soon as it phoned home my antivirus popped up stating that i have a virus which it contained.
Of course i then deleted the game. Never will trust that company again.

...............................Moderator comment..............................

Jeff, there's no way yesterdays game had any sort of malware including a phone home application. The only time the software you download from the game giveaway and giveaway sites phone home is when you are activating the software. All game giveaways are thoroughly checked for malware before anyone can download them. If there had been a malware attached to the game we would have had hundreds of comments about the issue. as it is, you are the only one who has reported this out of thousands of community members. What is the likelihood of only you finding this malware out of so many thousands of community members. Basically very very very unlikely especially considering most community members are security conscious.. Doesn't that tell you something about your conclusions, I hope so? I would advise you to have your computers security software do a deep scan of your system to ensure you don't have hidden Trojans or other root kits installed. Please remember, not all anti malware programs can detect every malware that is available, so you may need to use more than one program to flush it out of your system. Good luck.

The malware your anti-malware program reported could have been the giveaway wrapper, which is notorious for being flagged as malware even though it is not. It contains code that is sometimes regarded as malware, because it has been used to wrap malware, in this case it is being used to protect the game from hackers and as such is totally safe to install.

The malware reported has more than likely been introduced to your computer via another path, maybe something you've downloaded from elsewhere. Trojan malware is very good at hiding itself and often we can be bamboozled into thinking a totally harmless piece of software or game was to blame, when in fact it was something totally different. The developer of this game has a good following on Steam. He has released four games on the platform and I personally have never had any reports of malware connected to this or any of his other games. also you won't find any mention of malware associated with this game on the net.

p.s. please don't take the above as a poke against you. I was just tying to explain why you are wrong in your assumption that yesterdays game giveaway was infected with malware. As I've said hundreds of times over the last several years, there has never been a game given away that was infected with malware since this project started in Dec 2006.

I too, have a Steam account. They have brought back updated older games, I'm in the middle of Grim Fandango. I have bought games that are playable, but still being worked on to help fund the games. As long as you are not playing your game, you can share it with your family members or friends. You can add other games you own to your Steam account. Lots of variety of games to try and believe me when I say, I suck at some and I excel at some. But I always enjoy them.

And I have to say, way to go GGOTD partnering with Steam. Everything installed great on Win 7 sp 1 64 bit. Now, I just need to gather the courage to join in on some of the multi player games on Steam. :-) Visit Miss Jackorama to say Hi!

What a sweet little game, very relaxing. This kind of game used to be a risky buy but now though, with popularity, I'm seeing more and more of them and that makes me happy. Now for the technical stuff. I didn't have any problems downloading or installing it onto my windows 10 computer and the program ran just fine. Wish I had some constructive complaints but I just don't - as far as this kind of game goes it's quite a gem. Steam has Star Sky 2 for a whopping 3.99 and Star Sky 1 for 1.99 - certainly both are worth it..

This is definitely different the usual fair offered here on the site, so those complaints should be thoroughly quelled today. This isn't really my kind of game, so my review may be skewed a bit. While it certainly conveys a relaxing atmosphere, it quickly becomes frustrating to me. It is similar to "Knock-Knock" in that it is a 2D platform game wherein you try different things, but unlike "Knock-Knock" this one doesn't seem to have any real story line or purpose. (I very much enjoyed "Knock-Knock"; not so much this)

Game play is very straight forward. It's keyboard only, even in the menu screen. You use either left or right arrow to walk depending on which character you are playing. Woman goes left, man goes right. The up arrow is for running. The cue for a "choice" is some music. When the special music starts, you either stand in the same place or keep going through. There is no reverse. You can't change your mind after you have made a "choice". You just keep plodding forward until the end - then you get to start all over again.

The goal of this game is to walk through a fairly short environment. At certain points, changes can occur depending on what choice you make. That choice is made by either standing still until the change occurs or walking through the hot zone to keep things the same. The game description declares that the choices you make affect other things in the environment and promises a great experience playing with these effects. This basically means if you don't wait to get the apple, at a later "choice" that requires the apple the change won't occur. Just walk through again and get the apple. I've played through about 6 times (3 each character) and basically the changes are an active volcano vs. inactive, a full moon vs. crescent, and an apple in a tree vs. in my hand, among other things equally unimportant, all done in a very minimalist, artsy 2D fashion. As there are two characters to play, some choices made by either affect some of the environment and choice activations in the other.

Maybe I wouldn't mind playing around with the interactions, but I don't see the point. There isn't anything to compel me to play the game. Someone programmed certain things to occur given certain input. All I'm doing is playing around until I find the particular input. I can't really say there is a story line or other impetus. Just make some random things happen. Some people will find the music and art compelling enough to play through and this is certainly a well-done game, but it isn't for me.

When you first start the game, it gives you a very brief how-to. I suggest looking at the "How to Play", it has a few more details that will be beneficial. The default for hints in my installation was "on". This results in small squares showing at the top of the screen at a point where you can make a choice. I didn't feel there was enough time to decipher some of these hints before an irrevocable choice was made for me. Some are fairly straight forward, but others aren't. Between these vague 'something bland will happen' events and the inability to turn back to try a different path/choice, I quickly lost interest. If I had continued trying to play, my interest would have devolved into stress and animosity.

As it stands, it's a well done game with nice music/sound effects and pleasant, if bland, art. This strikes me as a love-it / hate-it type of game depending on your personal preferences. If you've never played this type of game, it's worth a download to try as you may find something to your liking. It's certainly worth it for those who like these types of games and I am sure there are people who will find this a pleasant, relaxing experience. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them.

Melika, I have been thinking how to put my thought about the game in words until I read yours!

Exactly how I feel about the game but I only played it twice per character.

Downloaded and extracted just fine for me to Win 7 Pro system using latest Chrome browser.

This seems to be more of a meditative and atmospheric experience than a game, since there doesn't seem to be a "win" moment; but it is beautiful and calming -- a zen experience.

I'm a mouse girl, rather than keyboard control; but there's so little button pressing that it's not a problem here.

Truly something different!

Glad you like it. I think this is exactly what the developer intended. All four of the games he has on Steam are similar in nature.

Lovely game. Downloaded, installed, and activated without any problems. Starts up and runs without any problems. Like I said, it seems to be a lovely game. It's nice to be able to play something relaxing for a change! Thank you, GGOTD!

I've had very few problems running games from this site, and haven't had any problems since this site changed recently, but I can't get this game to run properly at all. I'm running Windows 7 on a laptop. I've downloaded this game 3 different ways, and all the zip files have opened properly, all seemed to have installed properly, but when I start up the game, it goes up to the opening screen with sound, but I can't click into anything, so nothing happens. Too bad, as I was looking forward to seeing this different type game run.

..............................Moderator Comment....................................

You've already figured out that this is keyboard only, so I don't need to explain. :)

I finally realized that you can't use the mouse on this game, as it's all keyboard controlled. Interesting simulator, although instead of it being relaxing for me, I found myself a bit anxious while wondering what I'd see next!

...........................Moderator comment.....................................

Ah, that means you didn't read my review where I did say it was keyboard only. Glad you figured it out. :)

I actually did look at your review, but I skimmed through it quickly today, and missed where you stated it was keyboard only, and then noticed another comment stating this fact. Like most others on this board, I always look over your reviews before I decide whether I want to download anything, so I really appreciate you doing this for all of us! Thanks so much!

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I had problems downloading, getting in a loop first. Then at last I managed to download the game via Edge, but could not get it installed. Turned off AVG for 5 minutes and that worked. Still am a bit at a loss. Walked around, but do not know what to do with the apple or squares that pop up. Will try another time to figure it all out. Scenery is quite simple. I just wonder why the moon stays in place while the woman is moving away. Thanks anyway for this unusual game.

..............................Moderator Comment....................................

I'm sure the moon stays in the same pl;ace (visually) while walking in real life. I remember my cousin commenting on it when we were toddlers. He said why do the buildings move position and the moon doesn't. Of course as you grow up you realize it's all to do with how far away the object is and it's perspective in relation to the surroundings.

Regarding the apple. There are only dichotomous choices in this game, that become evident when you hear the music and then see the sparkle. the sparkles tell you that you are in the zone. Stay still till the choices are given, usually small windows appear and you select the one you wish to take. When i chose a certain path, my apple disappeared.

Reply   |   Comment by Merlyne  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Sorry, but I'm dense. Don't get the mechanics at all. Even I'm not too dumb to understand a changing sign means another route (Though there's no consistancy to up and down, if i go to Lakeland 1st, it's down, if i go to the Moon Bridge 1st, Lakeland is then up. Nice trick, if you can do it). Yes, I see the choices over my head. But how do you choose one? Mouse doesn't work, keys don't select things, so how? Do I have to wait after I get the apple for the bird to come and eat it to tell me it's tale? And, actually WR, the episodes are not necessarily short. I was caught with the girl in an endless loop, Moon Bridges to Lakeland to Moon Bridges, over and over, until I went through The Cave. Or was that because I missed a preparatory step on the way? Seemed going through The Cave was the only way to get to Welcome Darkness. And there's a choice in The Cave that shows 3 choice windows with nothing in them. Just shimmering window shapes. Did I end up with an incomplete download with those graphics missing? Or, again, did I miss a preparatory step? I find a discovery "game" less interesting if I not only have to discover the world, but the game mechanics too. Meditative? So far, my experience is drudgery.
I am curious though where Mr. Jonsson is from. Scandinavia would seem the logical choice. His world is different from what I'm used too, but would fit that locale.

..............................Moderator Comment...................................

Hi Watcher, the choice is made by moving forwards when the route you wish to take is showing, so, if you want to take the high road, move when the sign is showing moon bridge etc etc. :)

Reply   |   Comment by watcher13  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Thanks for responding my friend, but the sign part is the part I understand. The part I don't get is how do you trigger different overhead results. The apple vs the bird's tale, which is, I guess, the paintings you're talking about, for example. I realize there are certain triggering incidents, for example, I assume that some things happen when you have the apple, and some don't, but I don't seem to be seeing the opposite result when I don't have the apple. You sure your seeing both options happening? And do you get a choice when you're walking through the cave? When my cave option comes up - in other words, I've got music and sparkles - I see 3 shimmering rectangles, like there are supposed to be option paintings inside them, but they are only foggy ill-defined shapes, not paintings or even clear wholes where the paintings should be. An option that isn't an option, a choice that has no choice. Maybe I'm just unobservant or dense.

............................Moderator Comment.............................

One thing I'm definitely sure about is that you are definitely not dense having written some of the most succinct and informative pieces over the years in these game giveaway comments. As to the answer, I can't; I just stumble through and find that I've somehow made different choices at each play through. Maybe it's me that is dense. ;)

I'm sure you'll figure it if you have the staying power. I've got to the stage where I've played it enough for now and am leaving it for another time. I've still got hundreds of games (actually thousands) still un-played in my Steam library that I promised myself two years ago I'd play before the year was out, and yet here i am over 112 weeks later, with hardly a dent taken out of them, despite having played at least a new game every day for the past two years (well almost every day). I'm looking forwards to the new Roller Coaster Tycoon world, which is due for release in three days *already got it pre-ordered). Been a long time since we saw a new roller Coaster Tycoon game, though I did back Theme Park Studio a similar game two years ago, but it wasn't as easy to play as the tycoon series.

Wouldn't Google Earth provide a much better exploration?

Management and some FPSer's among others. I will say that I would add "something" to each level...... maybe a quick Hidden Object or puzzle mini-game to help keep an interest going. This game is going to be either a love it or leave it for many as its definitely different from just about anything I've ever played before.

Thank you to the developer and GGOTD for this! Think the developer is definitely on to something here, just not quite there yet.

Yes it would. I've actually spent many an hour exploring old haunts, places I'd like to visit, or just route planning journeys. A brilliant application that I bought into a few years ago, which I believe is now free. Google maps is also excellent.

Happy spring, WhiteRabbit!

When I try to launch the game, I too get "Star Sky 2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I found a file, debug.log, in the install folder. Don't know if it has anything to do with the launch problem. The contents are below. I think the basic error is "couldn't load libexif." But I find it strange the references to the C:\ drive and unknown user names. I extracted the game directly to Q:\ and have no users Xeeko or PC-VicMan-17 on my machine.

I've never played a walking simulator and was looking forward to trying this out. If I have time, I'll try it on another computer.

In any case, a big thank you to Mårten Jonsson and the GGOTD team, especially you, WR!

Cheers,

TInyearl

Downloaded, Installed and Activated with no problem on my Win 10x64 machine. Used Edge as the browser by the way, since the browser used to download seems to be an issue with some. Guess I'll need to remember to add that from now on. (I do have 5 different browser's , and use them all, on my machine. Sorry..... I won't be downloading this or ANY game 5 times to check them all for compatibility :) )

On to the game itself. A very visually nice game, love the artwork/animation on the sky. Goes straight to full screen mode. As I keep my volume controls extremely low I didn't get a chance to hear the sounds on my first level walk through. I'm sure its in keeping with the motif of this game though, easy going and restful. Walk through is an apt description too, as that's the defining purpose of this offering. From what little I can see so far, that's just about "it" as far as a purpose for this game too, walking and looking. Having said that I'll say that I will be keeping this, at least for awhile, as its a nice break from my usual gaming interest's i.e. Tower Defense, Time Management and some FPSer's among others. I will say that I would add "something" to each level...... maybe a quick Hidden Object or puzzle mini-game to help keep an interest going. This game is going to be either a love it or leave it for many as its definitely different from just about anything I've ever played before.

Thank you for your excellent feedback Alan. sorry for the very late moderation. By the time I found this we had a couple of pages of comments and every time I moderate a comment I have to scroll back unlike the old site. It's become time consuming and a little annoying. It's taken me well over three hours to moderate all of the comments before I found yours. Been at it since just after 11.30pm; it's now after 3 am and I still haven't started Sundays review. :(

Looks like I'll be posting a cut down version. :)

Downloaded, installed and registered without a problem on my Win7/64 laptop (using Chrome).

This is certainly a departure from the usual here at GGOTD. I agree with most of what Whiterabbit wrote in his review. It is not a game in the usual sense - more of a wander through an a mystical landscape at dusk. I found it relaxing to the point of getting a little bored. I haven't played for very long at this point, so maybe it picks up a bit along the way, but my initial comment to the devs is that I would like to see a bit more interaction, more to look at perhaps, something to click on. The graphics are good, but so far pretty repetitive. Since it's largely a visual experience, I kept wanting there to be more to, well, experience.

Thanks to Martin Jonsson, and to GGOTD for this interesting, different offering. And as always, thanks to Whiterabbit for your efforts.

This is the second time a game downloads and then does not install. Tried a different browser, turned off the antivirus (always a bad idea) but it takes nearly 4 minutes to download then not work. Says it activated, but it will not run. I will be leaving the site, not worth the hassle. Tired of suggestions that the reason it won't work is that I am stupid. (Got enough of those last time). Too many others have the same problem, so it isn't just me.

.........................Moderator comment......................................

I don't recall anyone calling anyone stupid for not being able to install a game. you're the one that appears to be spreading such rumors. All I've tried to do is find solutions and post them. Yes, quite a few community members are posting that they are having problems, but i'm still seeing thousands of games being downloaded and activated, so it's only a tiny percentage of community members that are having problems, which would point to their computers or internet connection is the problem not the servers here at this end. if there was a problem, everyone would be having similar problems, as it is only a tiny fraction of the community, i.e. about 0.05%. Statistically this is extremely insignificant, though I appreciate it's not to those who are having the problem. I do empathize with all of you that are having problems, but I'm powerless to fix those problems from my end. You need to fault find, research online etc to find the problems. If i had the problem, I would be in a better situation to help; unfortunately I'm not, so all I can do is make suggestions.

I'm having a problem with both giveaway sites. I download the zip file and it doesn't matter which unzipper/unpacker I use the program starts to install but just vanishes away. I get the boxes that usually appear after a successful install and that bring me to the "activated -what next" page but nothing is actually installed. I've checked the FAQ but can't see anything about this. I get no error messages.

This feels like an unfinished game. And there are a number of games now with a similar artistic look such as the Samarost games. It looks good, but so can a screensaver. It's not a bad game, but it feels incomplete.

Thank you for your feedback Avid Gamer. After researching the message the error message appears to point to a a memory or DLL pointer error, though i may be wrong, unfortunately I have no idea which. Possibly a missing component which could have been removed if you've used one of those memory or space clearing programs that we get over on the other side of the project (e.g. Advanced System Care or wise Care products)

Delilah,
Just like 'Avid Gamer' and you, I too encountered the exact same crash on my old XP SP3 machine. So, it is not some isolated case. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a workaround to the problem, so far.

"Oooops! Sorry, the page you're looking for isn't here." https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/download/?id=1096

And going to the home page does NOT help - it just sends me to the broken download page. It's a shame the whole thing sounded like fun.

I use Windows 7 laptop, Chrome browser version 49.0.2623.108 m

Hi Janet, check my other comments, there are some fixes that may work. Try changing your browser. Chrome seems to be one of the browsers some are having problems with, yet others with Firefox etc. I can't figure out a definite fix, but one of those already suggested elsewhere in these comments may fix the problem. I personally had no problems downloading and installing the game.

Try the following link, which I've copied directly from the admin panel:

I use Chrome and the download page opened for me using an incognito window. Didn't mind sharing on FB so I did so and downloaded the game. Also used the same email address I use to comment on the Giveaway forums to send a download link via the personal email option.

The download link otherwise gave me a 404 error. Never had that problem before.

Hi Dana, you don't actually have to log into your FB account. Just cancel the log in and the download link will still turn green and you are able to download the game. If you are having problems, please read other comments as there are fixes that appear to work, for example trying a different browser. I've also suggested clearing out your internet cache, try rebooting your modem and/or router, check to see if I>E. isn't set to offline as this will cause problems as well. Even if you don't use I.E. you need to have it set to online.

Hi Whom, try using a different browser. We've been having problems ever since the giveaway team decided to change to this new format, but some community members who have had this problem have found using a different browser fixes the problem.

Check to see if I.E isn't set to offline working. If it is set it to online. also clear your internet cache, and check the FAQ's thread over in the game discussion forums. I've posted the link in my review above and to at least one reply to another community members comment.

Oooops!
Sorry, the page you're looking for isn't here.
Maybe you've clicked on an obsolete link or mistyped the URL, or maybe it's just us.

Don't fret!
Just go to our home page and proceed from there.

Tried several times and the download page keeps giving the same page with the above enclosed dialogue. Help.

Hi Joanie, check last weeks comments, there were some fixes posted that may help. If I get time later I'll post those fixes in todays comments. At the moment i'm still working on today's game review.

Joanie, what link return this error? My download link works fine.

Mine also works on all my computers. I don't actually need today's giveaway as I already purchased it via Steam when it was released earlier this month, but I always download giveaways just to make sure there are no problems. For those experiencing problems, it's probably a computer configuration problem, though something in the new look giveaway site may also be contributing. TBH, It's hard to suggest fixes if the problem isn't seen at my end. If I had the problem here I'd be able to work through the various fault finding tricks I use to see if I can fix the issue, but as i have no problems at my end, it's difficult to give a definite fix. all I can do is suggest various possible fixes. For those having problems, please keep checking back; hopefully someone who had had the problem, but managed to get it fixed will post the fix here. (fingers crossed).

The download works OK for me, but it will not unzip. The error message tells me to provide the last disk?

Hi Jim

Try using a different archive program like 7Zip. I've posted links to several free archivers in the FAQ's thread, which I've linked to in the review above, and the following link:

HERE.

Thanks imontheinternet; also those having problems could try clearing out their internet cache and to make sure I.E. (internet explorer) is set to online (even if they don't use I.E.)

I agree completely with the first comment. This site has gone downhill since it was changed.

This should be a "game"??? What´s the target? I see nothing - you´re running senselessly around - boring!!! Thrown away after 1 minute - 70 MB DL for nothing...

Hi Pauli, we are now securing games that are being released on Steam. The gamegiveaway team are getting games from different sources, but if we continue to blast games without giving decent feedback (positive or negative), we may very well lose these new contributors.

Today's game is a totally different type of game to what we are used to. As I mention in my review (once posted - I'm still working on the review) todays game is more of an art project, that could be seen as an excellent interlude between more important matters, sort of like a coffee break between more stressful games or other matters, where a welcome break can often recharge your batteries.. I only play this game in short bursts and find it refreshingly pleasant to play. (I purchased it via Steam just after it was released a few weeks ago). There are lots of outcomes possible, so you need loads of play through's to see all of the outcomes.

All that aside, thank you for your feedback; do you have any suggestions as to how the developer could improve the game?
