It appears that there is again problems for some community members regarding today's download link. Also the link posted by Yallah may have be suspect, so I've removed it. THIS link provided by Wurkupumpel (thanks) should work if the the link on the main game giveaway page doesn't. It's still an official game giveaway page so should be safe.

Egyptoid 2

In Brief

Egyptoid 2 is a decent 3D breakout game. It's been given away several times since the game giveaway project started almost 10 years ago.

If you wish to see the problems section, which I've now incorporated into the FAQ's thread you can find it HERE and the recent games deals (now called The Weekly roundup of game deals) is HERE. I've still to post the installation section. Will do so later. In the meantime, if you have problems installing the game, do post a comment, thank you.

The Game:

You are a treasure seeker. A piece of ancient papyrus showed you the way to a lost temple that contained tombs of untold wealth and an ancient magical weapon called the Egyptoid. The Egyptoid will show you the way to the secret treasure and help you gather it. Scattered around the temples are forgotten magical elements that when combined with the Egyptoid activate ancient spells. Only when you’ve collected all of Anubis’s keys will you be able to enter the secret chamber to gather the treasures of the Pharaohs.

Basically Egyptoid 2 is similar to the original Egyptoid apart from some graphical enhancement’s plus of course a whole new set of level designs to destroy. There are 17 bonuses, including the lightning cannon and the mega magic cannon, these two are the only new additions from the first version of the game. Other bonuses that are also found in the original, but are slightly different from your normal breakout are the three different levels of ball destruction from high, maximum and absolute. As with the first game there are also seven special symbols to collect. Collecting three of the same of each symbol will give you magic spells that range from ‘the glance of Horus, Breath of Atum, Lightning of Hathor, Fire of Ra, Curse of Atem, Fireball of Oseris, and the ‘Pitch of Darkness’. When adding these specials to the bonus count you get a total of 24 bonuses. The spells will be expended as soon as you collect the three symbols. So ensure your bat is in a suitable position to take advantage of the spells power. That is if your bat just so happens to be under an area of very few bricks you will not make the most of the spell. The spells are basically the same as those you got in the original Egyptoid apart from that the developers have changed the names around a little, for example the Fire of Ra becomes the Flame of Ra (and there’s a Fire of Aten,) and the Pitch of Darkness was known as Outer Darkness. As you clear a level, these specials become less effective, so it's best not to collect the third symbol of each set until you start a new level as they are carried over to the next level. Egyptoid 2 also has improved graphics. To boost your score there are lots of gems to collect.

I've been playing breakouts since the mid to late 1970's so find most of little challenge. This game is no exception. With respect to playability, I found that I've had to set the games difficulty on the hardest setting to make the game even slightly challenging. As for me it suffers the same as many 3D breakouts in that the ball does appear to travel incredibly slow. This would be an ideal game for those who are new to this genre, as well as younger children. If you like 3D breakouts and want more of a challenge I would suggest checking out the games I’ve suggested in the section at the end of this review. The first one has been amongst my favorites for a few years and the second one is much better than its predecessor Action Ball Deluxe; now free from MyPlayCity 24/7 (Actionball 2). Apart from Actionball 2 you’ll also find several more excellent breakouts over at MyPlayCity including hyperballoid 2 (watch out for toolbars being installed) which has a levels editor. Alawar did have a download link for community based levels, but I’m not sure if that exists any longer.

You’ll find a video of Egyptoid 2 game play HERE and HERE

Conclusion:

In my opinion this version is better than the first one in the series. If you were not in the enviable position of getting it free today and had the choice of buying either one, I’d definitely buy Egyptoid 2.

With respect to playability, I found that I had to set it on the most difficult setting to make the game even slightly challenging (though I have been playing these games for more than 30 years (starting with the very first one); because it suffers the same as many 3D breakouts in that the ball does seem to travel incredibly slow. This would be an ideal game for those who are new to this genre as well as younger children. If you like 3D breakouts and want more of a challenge I would suggest checking out my suggestions below. Acky's XP Breakout and Ricochet infinity (both 2D versions) have been amongst my favorites for many years, but more recent releases such as Ion Ball and shatter (both available via steam) are also excellent breakouts. Recently I was given a copy *from the developer) of an unusual breakout called Ploing 2, released around 10 years ago; i've been having some fun playing it over the last few weeks,.

Egyptoid 2 7
Scoring

Game play: 8

Graphics: 7

Audio: 7

Re-playability: 8

Hi Sonyavan,

I really can't figure what the problem is; there are thousands of community members able to download and activate these games, with only a very small percentage not being able to (assuming everyone who has been having problems has posted here today). That would point to a problem at your end; either some incompatibility with the new web design, or possibly your provider?

Check the FAQ's thread to see if there are any fixes mentioned there; for example, reboot your router, clear out your internet cache (sometimes cookies become corrupted), check to see that I.E. is set to online (even if you don't use I.E. it needs to be set to online working. Also try changing your browser, especially if you use Chrome, apparently those using Google Chrome have been having problems, also try downloading into a private window as mentioned by Qwertiy. Next time this error occurs immediately open up the event viewer and check the logs. You may be able to find error messages related to the problem, that will enable you to fix it. Do let me know if you manage to sort it.

You'll find the FAQ's thread in the sticky section of the game discussion forums:

I wasted all day trying to download this game.
Even when I have been able to download the package, like right now, the installer is only 2.42 mb and installs absolutely nothing but just tells me the game is activated.
This constant issues are getting really annoying and I hope they will make the game available again in the next few days.

Thanks to white rabbit for the usual dedication to this page.

Hi Threshold, sorry I'm late, unfortunately I'm unable to moderate 24 hours a day, so have only just seen your comment after the giveaway ended, too late to do anything about it; however, if it happens again try using a different file archiver. I've had the same issue myself and found using a different archiver fixed the problem. I've posted links to several free file archivers in the FAQ's thread, which you can find via my review above or by following the link below:

It’s back…

YES!

Downloaded and installed fine on Win10 (used Chrome, so someone must have come across with a fix somewhere as I had no issues at all)

Love this game and lost it when I changed machines.

It’s a simple (snort) physics game that I always liken to pinball. These are typically not the sort I like as I have issues with them for various reasons, but I like this series. The graphics are old and could probably use an update or reboot and it’s not complicated, but it’s still a classic and quite good. It’s straight forward and you really don’t need a tutorial for it. Just play and go, breaking everything you can by bouncing the ball around. Not only is it rather addicting, but fun and you can waste many hours on it!

This is one which could use a reboot for the graphics as long as they leave the gameplay just how it is. That would make it quite perfect, honestly!

Keep plugging away, Rabbit! All you can do. No one is going to listen to you, or us, about the site, it appears. Plenty of us appreciate what you do and your reviews of the games!

Hi folks, I really don't know what the problem is. I've not had any issues downloading any games over the past few weeks. There are some suggestions such as using the other link that I've posted at the head of my review above and not to use chrome. For those having problems using other browsers, try using a different one and see if it solves the problem. Check to see if I.E. is offline. Make sure it isn't. Clear out your internet cache and try again. I hope one or more of these possible fixes work for those who don't already have this breakout.

I didn't need to download today's game because as I already have it from a previous giveaway, but I downloaded it to make sure i could. I w as hoping I'd have a problem, so that i could fault find, but it's hard to figure if you don't have the problem others are commenting on.

Strange that this and other problems have arisen since the giveaway team updated the web site. Wish they would change it back. I miss the familiar dark blue background and ease of use. If we get repeats i have to scroll through every game we've been given to get to the previous time it was given away whereas before I could sign into my admin account and go straight to the previous giveaway. Last week it took me almost half an hour to find the old giveaway. today's i re did all of the images and links as i couldn't be bothered to do the same.

Please excuse the late moderation today. We had to go out to pick our son up from his silver Duke of Edinburgh's expedition practice (he's doing it with the Explorer scouts), which took up almost four hours earlier this evening. I don't know why they do it so early in the year when it's freezing out side. Thankfully he'd gone well prepared and said the only part of him that was cold overnight was his feet.

Hopefully all of these teething problems with the new look site will be ironed out soon.

Whiterabbit-uk, seems like it is related to the fact that ru.giveawayoftheday.com remembers autorisation which is not valid for game.giveawayoftheday.com. Opening this site in private window, entering email and downloading by sent link helped.

I have this game from an offer a lo0ng time ago, and is one of the few games I play on a repeated basis. Not too hard, and lots of fun - this is a definite keeper, unless you prefer really hard games. For wasting a few hours of play (which is what games are really for), this is one of the rare gems that is made right, the physics work, and is both appealing to the eye and ear. The more playable game of this genre, IMHO.

Thank you for your feedback Paul, much appreciated. Please excuze the late reply. I'd also highly recommend the following breakouts:

1) ... Break Ball 2 gold, a little dated now, but the game can be configured to play solo, against the computer, or against a friend as well as change the way the bat behaves. It also has some unusual and original additions.

2) ... Incrediball: The Seven Sapphires - has some unusual and original additions. This is my favorite 3D type breakout. As with most breakouts, it's looking a little dated graphically, but still is a superb game with some very unusual power ups never seen before.

3) ... Ricochet infinity - apart from having a fantastic array of power ups, ball types etc you have access directly through the game to literally tens of thousands of free levels created using the included level editor.

4) ... Aky's XP Breakout - Traditional 2D game with level editor and some excellent surprises and challenges.

5) ... Break Quest - an incredible variety of level types, basically every level is totally different from the preceding one. 100 levels to break through.

This is a fun game, similiar to Savoid, the game given away last week. I already had both these games, though, from earlier give-aways. When old games get lost or corrupted or whatever, it's nice to get repeats. Hope we get a repeat on something I've lost sometime. Anyway, thanks GAOTD and StarAshes.

Download and installation went fine - gave it a try cause I was curious - now I know what a breakout game is - I am not very talented but will try it from time to time.

To leave the game you have to press ESC but once you know this it's ok too. As it seems to be an older game the graphics are kind a blurry.

Looking forward for another giveaway I might like - thanks for everything

Never played a breakout before? you haven't lived. :) Check out my reply to Pauls comment above. I've posted brief details of five different breakouts, all of which are amongst my top ten favorite breakouts of all time. *I have around 250 commercial breakouts and as many freeware ones. Other breakouts I recommend, especially if you are new to the genre are both hyperballoid games, Actionball 1 and 2, Magic Ball 3 & 4, Strikeball 2 and 3, Arkamania 2 (there's a free version called Arcamania 2 Retro), Funkiball, Ploing 2 and Chicken Attack.

Thanks for the sugestions - I'll have a look into them.

I did play the one we had 25 years ago in the arcade nearby (where you can play flipper, videogames and often pool) - this was before we even were using computers at work.
I remember having a similar one on my sisters Gameboy but I was never good (I have very slow reaction). But now I can try it out again.

Downloaded very quickly. It is a very small game. Installed quickly. Loads very slow all things considered. It is a breakout game. Graphics were circa late 1990s. The pixelization was tough to watch. Played the first level just fine. It slowly transitioned, very slowly, to what was probably going to be the second level before discovering "Esc" button closes the program.
Win 10(64), AMD A8, R5, 6gb with 1gb dedicated video.
Thanks GGOTD!

I was able to get to the link successfully by using firefox. Then I had it send me an email and it downloaded okay - I think it's a combination of chrome and/or adblock. I've had this issue with windows 10 for regular .pdf downloads for my job so I'm hardly surprised.

Each time I get a new PC -or in today's case a new partition for Windows 10- I always redownload this one when it's offered. One of my favorite of the "breakout" type games they offer here occasionally. Thanks to the person who posted the alternate link, since I"m getting nothing but the same 404 page from the page link.

Downloaded, installed and activated with no problems on my Win 10 machine. As an aside I just don't understand the problems some have with your game offerings. Don't think I've ever had any problems with them.

On to the game itself. I'm not feeling all that well today so only played the first two levels so far. A quite basic breakout game. Somewhat dated graphics as befits a game of this age. Easy to understand and play. Am not overly fond of the Theme but that's "me". Can't really think of any helpful suggestions for the developer and I'm sure that , again , due to its age would do any good. As mentioned the graphics here are very very basic. Should be playable on any machine due to its non-taxing requirements on your GPU. If this type of game is your thing I would suggest maybe looking around for Mega World Smash or any number of others of this genre. I like the majority of StarsAshes games but this one just leaves me .......... meh. Doubtful if it will be on my machine for long. Thank you StarsAshes and GGotd for the chance to try this for free.

A while back a game called "Pearl Harbor" I think, was given away, sure would like to see it again (hint hint)

Hi Alan,

please excuse the very late reply. thank you for your comment.

I'll have to check through the game listings for Pear Harbor as I can't remember the developers name, I've backed my copy up ages ago, and am at this time creating a datbase using WinCatalog 2015 so that i can find everything I've backed up to external drives (over 14TB worth) and literally over a thousand DVD's and Blu Ray disks, most of which i stupidly didn't label.

Ah, just found it. Was given away about 2 years ago:

for me all links where blocked or 404 regardless which one in chrome or gave me an empty zip in the case of the link by Olray. with Edge the official link worked. It might be an idea if GOTD contacted the developers of the most used browsers and the most used virus scans to sort this out as to often the downloads seem to give issues lately. GOTD is losing it's credibility and good name this way

thanks as always GGOTD and Stephen and also thanks to todays dev for the giveaway

This is the second game giveaway in a row where the Download button is consistently giving me a 404 error, at least in Firefox.

The problem appears to be that it's directing me to https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/download/?id=1094 instead of the correct address at https://game.giveawayoftheday.com/download/?id=1094 (note the different domain: "www" vs "game").

Clearly, something in the "force sharing" javascript attached to the download button is broken and can send the user to the wrong address.

Fortunately, I already have this game from a previous giveaway, so I don't have to worry about bad links.
I still play it from time to time. It is a good game, and challenging. My only complaint is, that when you have bonus upgrades to your paddle or ball, they don't stay with you when you advance to the next screen. It's annoying when one of the last items you pick up before advancing is a good boost, and you never get to use it.

FWIW there's one problem with the GOTD sites & Firefox 45.0.1 running in Private mode -- when you click the Facebook link to share nothing happens. The 2nd problem is that when you download the GOTD zip files, both Chrome & Firefox want to block it -- Firefox easily lets you OK it anyway.

That 2nd problem May be similar to problems with security software like Kaspersky -- they can't look inside the encrypted GOTD wrapper to see what it holds, so label it bad automatically.

Monitoring the installation of both the game GOTD & the regular GOTD in a VBox win7 32 bit VM, neither does anything out of the ordinary -- the game makes no changes while the regular GOTD offer has Very low impact on Windows. In the VM Microsoft Security Essentials does not find a problem with either. Performing a scan with McAfee gives the game a pass, but finds 4 suspect files in the regular GOTD, idoo AntiSpyware Pro -- update.dat, upgo.dat, uptime.dat, & WMIreg.exe.

The digital signature for idoo AntiSpyware Pro lists Hengyida Information Technology CO.,LTD. & eastrivergroup@yahoo.com -- Google on either & you'll find reports of adware... Note: it's not unheard of for trial versions of apps on GOTD to include usually optional add-ons, while the GOTD has those stripped out. Note 2: I did not attempt to verify whether claims of adware or McAfee's detection of the 4 files were false or not -- I simply wanted to see what happened when I tried to download & install, which both did cleanly.

Game refuses to install. No matter what I try, or how many times I download it, I get a message that the file is either unrecognizable or damage. Still get the activation message, though, with no game!

It is almost 8am CDT in TN and I have just downloaded the game without any problem. (This has been given away before but it's the first time I've downloaded it.)
The game saved fine and in the ordinary fashion. Saved in C:\Games and scanned for 0 threats.
I've only done a couple of rounds but it's cute, I like it. It resets to 800x600 but it's not a new game so I'm not surprised. I'm more of an HOG person but I'll play this one a while. :) Thank you for the game!

Can not installate the game. It says it's activate but can't find it in the game-folder. Somehow there must be something wrong.

Mar, Have you tried doing a search from your Start menu? If that doesn't work I would try reinstalling or redownloading and then reinstalling.

Mar,
Try looking in your download folder, the Program Files folder, or if you have Windows 8 or higher, the Program Files (x86) folder. That is where my games usually download to.

Joe, I looked everywhere - having Windows 10 and usual it will be in the Program Files folder just not this one. Thanks for the information.

I could have downloaded with no problems from the regular link at the top of the page. Click download. Agree to post on Facebook. Cancel. Download.

Maybe Bob the Chicken Boy fixed the link for us!

I didn't download it, though, because I already have the game from a previous offering. It's been sitting in a corner of my hard drive never played ever since. Think I will just go delete it and put put it out of its misery.

Alternate dl link (https://game.giveawayoftheday.com/download/?id=1094) gets this message in Firefox: "Reported Unwanted Software Page!
This web page at files2.giveawayoftheday.com has been reported to contain
unwanted software and has been blocked based on your security preferences."
I still get Oops! 404 error page when I click original dl link.
I can ignore the warning about Reported Unwanted Software Page and dl the zip directly, but I don't know how to get the main dl link to work.

Sorry, the page you're looking for isn't here.
Maybe you've clicked on an obsolete link or mistyped the URL, or maybe it's just us.

Olray, that link gave me this Reported Unwanted Software Page!

This web page at files2.giveawayoftheday.com has been reported to contain unwanted software and has been blocked based on your security preferences.

Unwanted software pages try to install software that can be deceptive and affect your system in unexpected ways.

Olray, This link also came up with a warning (the same as that using the official download link that YALLAH was referring to below)

Olray, Many thanks for your link (https://game.giveawayoftheday.com/download/?id=1094) - it worked perfectly on my Win 10 (64) machine and installed without any problems. I always look through the 'Comments' section for helpful comments. I do wish that when people mention a specific game file that they provide a working link - just as you've done - it saves a lot of wasted effort. Someone called 'Ivan' - see below - refers to 'EgyptBall' and gives a link to 'myplaycity.ru' which is only of any use if you either speak Russian or have luck clicking on the pictured sections. And someone called 'Yaqzak' - see below - simply posts a long link (at least it does work) which only leads to a list of anti-virus programmes and the viruses that were found, but it doesn't help me in any way because - thanks to your link - the file immediately downloaded and installed without any problems at all.
On a different subject - if anyone is using Win 10 (32 bit) and is thinking of moving to (64 bit) I would say 'Go ahead and give it a try' - I can't believe how much better (64 bit) works. I use Firefox and am forever adding tabs - like I'm on 'Pinterest' at a page of 'Cool Things' and as an experiment I've got a total of 72 tabs, plus I've also got 5 other websites loaded in my Tray - and yet I was still able to load my email programme, and come to GGOTD and click on your link for today's game. Going to Win 10 (64) was the best move I've made in a long time, and of all the programmes and games I've moved over, I haven't yet had one that hasn't worked perfectly.

Olray, thanks. That link worked for me in Firefox. No idea why the others gave me the 404 error. And this game actually loads, unlike the one from a week or so ago that just gave me a white screen.

A similar game (free) "EgyptBall" was online "myplaycity.ru" (downloaded in 2007, she works).

Ivan,
Compare with free game ::
