In response to comment 31:

Oh, okay. Well thank you very much Mr. moderator for checking on the version number for me; i check before as well and could not find anything either.
If GOTD could, would they be able to let the developers know to list the version numbers on the program's GOTD web-page? That would be great!
Thanks again.

After playing a good chunk of this game, i would suggest improving the graphics to match Turtix's level, and change the "baby" sound to a more mature sound, matching the "hero" 's visual age. Thanks! :)

Fun platform game played through tutorial then level 7.

Discovered by accident, I could land on top of the flying creatures to knock them out of a level, missed that if in tutorial?

As others have mentioned, installed fine but won't play.

It won't open when the icon is double clicked. Won't open if right clicked and Open is chosen.

Just the way it goes.

Sorry I wasn't able to help. Did you check the problems section whic I linked to at the beginning of the review?

I've enjoyed the game especially once I found out how to get into the Sky Taxi. It would be helpful to have a banner that tells you to use the enter key to be dropped off at the different levels. It would be nice if I could go back to a specific level that are not available to the Sky Taxi.

Aww, guys..Come on...This is cute. You know it is... :)

Haven't had a lot of time to play(6 Levels) but it looks like it could get interesting later on. May have to try the mouse because the key board is hurting the fingers(must be a rain shower coming up). The music is so so..haven't turned it off yet. Graphics are ok. For something to do with not much thinking..it's perfect. :)

Thanks Alawar and GGOTD for a cute little fun game.

Thanks Wabbit. Gonna try and stay away from those slideshow/videos. It's more fun if you can do it yourself.

Play it for a short time and even though I'm not very far yet, I do feel like that this is one of their more unpolished games. For example, it's nice that you can change the volume for the music, but you can't change the volume of the effects. Every key is used differently, the escape keys is used to pause but also use to leave a picture screen. And the bonus levels, if you do one single misstep, the level ends immediately. This version seems very confused to me but I'm sure that's because it's one of their earlier games and they must have improved by now :)

I haven't tried this game (yet!), but from your screen shots, Stephen: KEYBOAD? OK, maybe English is not the developer's native language, but that's quite an embarrassing spelling mistake!

Also, GRAPHIC should really read SCREEN SIZE. ;)

..............................Moderator Comment........................

Yes the English is atrocious; however, looking past the errors. the game is classic platforming and quite decent.

Fun game, pretty easy so far, not much of a challenge, but that will probably end as it goes along??? No problems installing or running on Win 7 Home Ed 32 bit. Great game for when you don't want to work real hard for a change. Thanks for another neat freebie!

I'm sorry, but I find this game too lethargic and unpolished. Everything moves so darn slowly. And then you have the bad grammar, flat comic panels, and overly shinily rendered sprites. Basically it's just not enjoyable.

The music and "thanks with love" reminds me of Xeny with their game Globy. Plus the splash screen has a sky gate on it, which appears quite often in Globy. I wonder if the game is from the same developer.

Thanks for the description and details, Whiterabbit. I'm not much of a platformer player, but the length, simplicity, and kid-friendliness of it convinced me to give it a try. I appreciate your conclusion section where I can quickly see whether it's something I'm interested in. Thanks for the time you put into these reviews. And thanks, Giveaway, for the variety of good games you've been offering.

Ok Win 7 x64 Ultimate. Music slider. Keyboard or mouse tho kb seems more necessary in the higher, harder levels. The secret spots do add to the fun & puzzle aspect. Colorful, doable levels. Full screen even tho seemed only 3 of the older screen settings but highest was good enough. Knowing can get some extra lives helps to experiment by 'taking a hit' just to get to a certain part. In those 3 lives & die games (like the paddle bat format of other games) you have to be so conservative it takes away the fun. Here you can let a helicopter or falling brick bounce you a few times just so can make that harder than usual climb. Only did two of the built in extra games but are just a side alley to main route. Odd how you do get attached to your little guy and want to have him take out some of the opponents.
Thanks GOTD and Alawar for a nice keeper. Time for outdoor fun but I'll be working this one later.

I love this game! It reminds me of all the fun Windows 95 games that don't work on my Windows 7 computer! Thanks!

Oh, and anybody who's trying it... the first several levels are rather simple, but it gets harder, more complicated, and more fun!

..........................Moderator Comment.......................

Thanks.

Those first several levels are just intro/tutorial levels

Didn't download from the giveaway, but I've played all the Sky Taxi games previously.

This is a great title for kids or for adults who want some truly mindless playtime. It's not challenging. It is long. It suffers from some terrible Engrish plot. All that said, I did really enjoy the series.

Hi Whitemist. Try re-installing it, but initially change the install path to your desktop, then once it's installed manually copy it over to wherever you normally place your games.

Thank you for the giveaway

It's a cute game & my daughter really likes it. Whiterabbit used the term 'charming' -- I agree that is a good term for the graphics and style. I dislike it when platform games have background images that appear to be platforms, as this one does. I realize that makes it 'tricky' but I think there are better ways of doing that.

Installed fine on Windows XP SP3. Watch where it installs (since no desktop icon is created); I figured it would've installed with all the other Alawar games in C:\Program Files\Alawar\ but it was choosing another unknown folder. Naturally I directed it to the above mentioned folder & created my own desktop icon with the games executable. I wasn't overly impressed with the juvenile graphics and cartoons, but since the Mod stated in #6 that there's "hidden depths" to the game, I'll keep it and give it a more in depth game play later on. Turn the music off right away; it's beyond annoying!

Hi Giorgos, it works perfectly well on two of my Win 7 computers (Ultimate 64 bit and Pro 64 bit). Try running IOBits free app Game booster and see if that helps. also try running it in a different screen resolution. Try in windowed mode as well.

Hi BC, sorry, I've had to give up my computer to my sons friends. This is basically their last day beore they have to start getting ready for school after the Easter vacation, so I let them have my computer so that they could play together.

Have you tried reading any of the fixes I've posted in the forums. I've linked to the post above in my review.

Check your even logs and if you find any error messages related to the game please post them here. You'll need to check the logs thoroughly as they are divided up into sections. (I'm still new to the log checking so am not the nest person to ask right now).

I'll get back to you later once I get my computer back (just borrowed it for 10 mins to catch up on moderation). :)

after a few levels,I have a few quick suggestions.
1) instead of using escape for input on the help screen, change it to "any input"
2}change the white screen between scenes.( IMHO,Black would be better on the eyes )
3)rewrite the intro.

Otherwise, thanks for the very nice game (for the kids ;)

I wanted to know if the download installs a shortcut, or not, because I have way too many problems with downloads that do not. So the info provided by Game give away was useful to me. But is not on this page.

..........................Moderator comment..........................

Read my installation section. If you checked it earlier I'd not actually finished writing it.

Answering your query; no there is no shortcut installed, you have to watch where the game installs to, open up the installed game and send a shortcut to the desktop. Well worth bothering if you don't mind the initial faff.

Big thxs Game.GAOTD and Zylom for a fun looking game.

Extracted NP in Windows W7 x64 VM & ran , Folder copied to x64 Real Machine and ran , then to W7 x86 and ran .
My anti-malware went off , not an issue it's just the game simulates keyboard or mouse, it does nothing bad.
I didn't actually play just got it checked out for my partner. As she hasn't come away from it for about an hour I suspect the game is good :)
Have a great weekend all.

InstallationL>:

The downloaded zip file is 27.5Mb in size and unpacks to a read me stating the terms and conditions plus a dual activation and setup module. Once installed is automatically registered. The game doesn't install shortcuts to the desktop or start menu programs list nor is there an uninstaller. to uninstall just delete the installed games folder. The game probably installs to the following path:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Alawar\SkyTaxi\Sky Taxi.exe"

I've tested the game on XP, Vista and win 7 with no problems.

The GameL>:

Todays giveaway is a family oriented platformer with over 180 levels and several mini games to play through. The options menu allows you to change your key bindings to whatever you prefer, or you can change the mouse set up as well. The game is controlled by both input devices; whichever you find the easiest to use, though it's probably better to use the keyboard for more precise control over your character. Using the mouse may force you to fall off platforms easier or take longer to respond to an enemy.. If you have a configurable mouse you could configure the extra buttons to replace the keyboard keys for example the action key (down arrow key on the keyboard), or the Esc key for getting out of the help/hint screens; otherwise you will have to use a combination of both.

PicDepict.com
PicDepict.com

You'll also find a slider for the music volume and a toggle to turn sounds off. There's a full screen/windowed toggle as well as three screen resolution settings (though these would appear to have been designed for lower end monitors with the highest setting at 1024x768. When you change the screen resolution setting the window will automatically resize immediately. There's also a toggle for a custom cursor and one for changing the player. There seems to be space for several profiles, but I couldn't figure out how to save any profiles.

The game starts with a simple tutorial, that introduces you to the main concepts found in game for example completing a level by collecting all the caged fairies. There is a counter at the top of the playing area that tells you how many there are to rescue. Once completed you can then leave the level (making sure you've collected all of the treasure and searched for hidden levels and rare items first). Some aspects of the game are introduced when the time is right once the game starts proper. There are hint screens in the form of a TV or bill board. When you see one of these, just stand in front of it and press the action key for the information to be displayed. All actions are carried out using the down arrow. The up arrow is used for jumping and if you aren't using the mouse for movement, the left and right keys allow you to move left and right in game.

PicDepict.com
PicDepict.com

If you come across a locked door you may need to find a key to unlock it. Sometimes you will also need to find gold coins because some keys are held by non-playing characters (NPC's) and you have to purchase the keys off them to progress. There are also portals that transport you from one part of the level to other inaccessible areas. Secret areas are disguised as exit areas, so be careful that you've cleared the level of all it's treasures before venturing into one of these. Usually they are obvious though. Other methods of moving around the level are the common jumping platforms and clouds, which can be used as stepping stones if required. You will also find power ups such as magic fire that enable you to get to places faster by speeding you up., and also enable you to jump higher when used in conjunction with a jumping platform.

The game includes mini games for example a continuously moving platform level you have to remain on a platform without touching the bottom of the playing arena (you need relatively fast reactions for this mini game) or you may get an odd looking breakout game where you have to bounce balls off your bat and hit presents which then drop down to the bottom of the playing arena. You have to pick these up. If anything enters the central well you get a time penalty of minus 30 seconds. The faster you open all the presents the higher you score. Some mini games can be repeated as many times as you wish so long as you remain on the same page and whether you need to find a ticket to enter or not. Once you've found all the treasures and secret areas on a level move on to the next level. Some secret areas can be accessed by talking to NPC's, though generally they say things like Hi or Umm.

PicDepict.com
PicDepict.com

If you are faced with enemies on a level you can either hide from them using the dark areas or jump on their heads or throw items at them to kill them. If they touch you they will force you off your platform. Some areas need perfect timing to get to, so being knocked off can be frustrating. Beware of falling blocks. If one of these lands on top of you you will lose a life.. Thankfully you can gain lives from the treasure chests or from power ups scattered amongst the levels.

The levels vary from pretty easy affairs to wickedly clever designs. There are ten bosses included in the game. Every so often you'll come across one of these, however they don't present much of a challenge. In fact none of the enemies are that threatening as you can easily avoid them, or challenge them successfully by jumping on their heads. Whereas the most you can expect from them is being thrown of your platform. The falling blocks present more of a danger. That said, this is a nice exploration and collecting game.

There are 25 rare items hidden amongst the 180+ levels, some of which may be inaccessible at the beginning of the game, but which can be reached at a later time by back tracking to previously completed levels once you've improved your characters attributes, for example Mich, the character you play gains better jumping abilities, faster speeds and even protective shields. These are needed to protect him from enemies freezing weapon ( and possibly more weapons that I've not discovered yet) as well as to gain access to these previously inaccessible areas.

FeaturesL>:

... More than 180 levels

Images and Video:L>:

You can see a slideshow of almost sixty images HERE, you can also watch the following video, however it does show you where the rare items can be found, so if you don't want any spoilers, don't watch either of them. The first video (part 1) will show you where items can be found on level 30, level 60, level 64, level 70, level 77, level 81, level 90, level 95 and second video (part 2) shows you where rare items on level 100, level 110, level 120, level 125, level 130, level 136, level 140,level 142, level 149, level 150, level 155, level 160, level 162, level 168,level 170, level 178, level 181., completing all 25 rare items. You can see part 1 HERE and Part 2 HERE

ConclusionL>:

Sky Taxi is a decent platform game with various challenges and mini games inter-dispersed amongst the levels, though initially I wasn't that impressed until I had played through several levels. The game isn't anything spectacular, but does have a charm of it's own. Don't let the average graphics fool you into thinking this is a rubbish platform game because it isn't. There's a decent number of levels to play through, giving this a longer life than some platform games I've encountered over the years. Well worth downloading and playing especially if you have a growing family. This is a game everyone can play. There's no real skill required, but if you are a skilled player there's still enough challenges to keep you occupied.

ScoringL>:

I've removed the audio score because I find it's always the one to lower the overall score. The game is worth 7.5 out of 10.

Game play - 8
Graphics - 7
Replayability - 8
Originality - 7

SuggestionsL>:

... Improve the graphics

2) ... Include a levels editor

3) ... Include the ability to import users own music into the game.

A Request for helpl>:

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you’ve checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen
