I don't know if it's just me or if perhaps everyone else encountering problems with your website.

It appears like some of the written text in your posts are running off the screen. Can someone else please comment and let me know
if this is happening to them as well? This
might be a issue with my browser because I've had this happen before.
Many thanks

Hi are using Wordpress for your site platform? I'm new to the blog world but I'm trying to
get started and create my own. Do you require any coding expertise to make your own blog?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This game needs a pause button for pausing the timer. Instead of closing out the game and restarting, if you have to go away from the game, and want to stop the timer.

........................Moderator comment.....................

The game is paused by using the Esc key. To restart click on the resume key and it will continue where you left off. Make sure you pause when the ball is on an upward movement otherwise you may lose your ball when restarting.

Wow...I can't believe I missed this...and this company does not accept anything except MC and Visa...so I can't even buy it.

PLEASE bring another MahJong game back soon!

.....................Moderator comment.......................

Have you checked to see if the game is sold elsewhere? There is a chance that it may be given away again sometimes in the not too distant future; especially as they do update that particular game frequently.

First, thanks to Mr. Snoozles for the reminder about IE being the cause of "failure to connect". I'd been traveling all day, not in the mood to troubleshoot, and thought I'd search in comments before digging into all the help information.

Second, Whiterabbit, I love the detailed information you provide. So many games don't have much in the line of help, and I usually scan through your instructions as an intro to the game. There are many times I wouldn't otherwise give a game a chance except for reading your comments. And you are incredibly patient with all the people who refuse to read and follow instructions. It's one thing when there's a language barrier, but the lack of problem solving skill reflected in the comments is frightening.

Third, I agree with craines -- how absurd that those who complain about providing a name and email to register had to provide the exact same information to post the complaint. I have two separate email addresses for software registration, one for serious stuff that I pay for and another for all the extras like this game. And other than sites such as a bank, there's rarely a need to use real info online. Who's gonna know?

Finally, thanks to all involved for a great game -- I love the large print tiles!

...........................Moderator Comment.....................

Thank you Terri, I too have emails specific for particular jobs such as registering software, joining game sites etc.

When I opened to play this game, I kept getting the same configuration. I've played many MahJongg games so I knew this was not quite right. When I tried to remove (Most of your games are very obliging about uninstall/remove) I wound up with one Trojan and two viruses. It took me almost 4 hours to clean up the mess. BTW, the reg form you show above never appeared.

Run the update command as soon as you activate, there is a new version and my activation stayed current. ;)

I have downloaded this more then once today. Have done what instructions say. If I have to shuffle a board it says I get one shuffle since it is a trial version, uh hello I entered activation code & it was I had a full version, so therefore I lose the game even if I clear the board. Also I am getting Error: AC-NF-90 says that a problem with the activation code has been detected, please contact Tech. support so I guess I will contact their tech. support.

..............................Moderator Comment..............................

Please make sure you've read all of the comments posted previously. You need to put the giveaway name not your own as read from the page you received after filling out the request for an activation code. The name also includes the date. If you don't input these correctly it will remain a demo. If you don't manage it by the end of the giveaway contacting support may help. but it's not guaranteed becasue all giveaways come with NO support.

I major complaint = as soon as I downloaded it I found out this is yet another software that requires you to submit your information to activate it. The last thing I want is being bombarded with yet another developer's advertising and the advertising of others the developers sell live emails etc to.

................................Moderator comment.............................

The developer is a very respectable one. you are not likely to get bombarded with spam. Its just a diferent way of regestering the game. If you aren't willing to fill out the form to reques a code then that's your loss. If you'd bothered to read the comments section you would have noticed that it was possible to get the code by filling in the personal details anyway which.... i.e. fake emails and fake names etc becasue the game wasn't registered using your own name. The code wasn't sent by email, it was given to you immediately on clicking the button at the bottom of the page. I never did receive an email from them. Ah well........... too late now because the giveaway has just ended.

Activated and registered fine. Note that the registration name must include the date as shown or it will not register! Just copy and paste the name and date as shown, then the same for the key code and it will work.

I ran the update that came up after installation, and it updated in less than 5 minutes. It seems to still be registered. Thanks for that and that definitely improved my rating below for this game.

I believe that the "failed to connect" mentioned by a few could be due in part to the sheer volume of activations today - apparently exceeding 20,000 from WR's posts. Patience is a virtue. :)

Download and installation - 10
Registration process - 7
Price ($18.95 $USA??) - 7
Graphic Appearance in Game – 7

8/10 - Thumbs up.

A special thanks to Stephen, Whiterabbit-UK, for your heroic moderation on this special day today. You have helped many people to try an enjoyable game. HAPPY EASTER.

Cheers.

Thanks for your help. I use IE for work, so I have it set with my work proxy. Once I disabled that, it installed no problem. Ran into a hitch with the activation, I kept trying to activate it with MY name that I put in to get the activation code, as opposed to the GAOTD name. Considering how much I stress the importance of reading the instructions & details to my students, I just had to laugh at myself. I'm wondering if that wasn't Nancy's problem as well. Anyhow, thanks for your help & time during a holiday, hope you enjoyed!! Looking forward to playing the game now!

A little note for those who refuse to give their e-mail address when registering.

I have been using SolSuite, from the same company, since it was version 3.something. It's now up to 12.3. I have registered for the newsletter, with my correct address, and every month they offer me a free update during my year's subscription.

I have never received any junk mail or any other kind of problem or annoyance due to this registration, in ten years of knowing them.

Fair enough, when you're getting a freebie and you won't be updating, you don't have to sign up. But please don't be put off this brilliant game just because you worry about losing your privacy.

TreeCardGames has the best customer service I have ever encountered in fifteen years of Internetting, and if you have a problem with their products, they want to know, and they will move mountains to help you. They will NOT sell you into anything underhand, honestly!

Installation and registration went well. However, I play for a little bit and it locks up. This happens on both Windows 7 64 bit and Windows 7 32bit. The time continues to go. I then went back out came back in, cancelled by the first screen to pick classic, etc. and the game is still there. Play a little bit more and it locks up again. Go out of program come back in. That is too annoying. Anyone else having the same problem?

........................................Moderator comment.................................

No one else has reported this problem. Try turning off some of your background programs. Also use the free version of Game booster. That turns off all of the unecessary programs. See if that fixes the problem. Also read my problems section from yesterdays giveaway.

Registered with no problems after reading the earlier comments. Played 2 games, lost them both both but after shuffling at least I could complete. The weird thing when playing with modern tiles is some of them you don';t match the numbers, you match 4 & 6 or 1 & 3

P.S. "Hints" are available by pressing "H" on the keyboard (though I don't think this is mentioned in the HELP section) - I did it "by accident" 'cause I have that ability with another, similar game. I also like the notation at the bottom telling you how many matches are available. It would be nice to have an "always win-able" option so it would be worth un-doing multiple moves if you get stuck right near the end, and an auto-complete option once it's obvious you've won.

Following WR's detailed instructions, I had no problem with activation or registration. Installed and plays well on Vista 64bit.

This is a beautiful game with lots of options for game layouts, backgrounds and tiles. I appreciate being able to see the taskbar while playing (to keep track of just how much time I'm "wasting") and that you can exit (saving the game in progress) without a half-dozen confirmation queries.

Although I started with Classic/Standard - gameplay is excellent - I tried out quite a few of the tile sets. Dogs/Cats are good; Kittens was easier because of different positions and occasional props. Animals, African Animals and Amazing Places all play well. The parrots are stunning - maybe a bit *too* stunning - beautiful to look at but too overwhelming for concentration, ditto the "Color Swirls" set. Beaches/Summer - a bit too much blue; Outdoor Dogs overwhelmingly green. (This is all a matter of taste, of course, so the fact that there are so many options is wonderful.) I would suggest a few more kid-friendly options (holidays, clowns, circus, candy, dinosaurs), and a few more for the guys (boats, trucks/cars, heavy machinery, team logos/colors). Personally, I'd love more animals - Australia has many unique animals, and a set with horses would be nice... not like the cats/dogs, but a mixture of heads and full body poses with a great variety of colors (ditto, another dog/cat set).

Some of the tiles appear to be two levels when seen from the side/edge even though there is only one layer left. I'd love the option to fog/haze some of the more vivid background photos. They are beautiful but a bit too distracting while playing. Overall, this is a great solitaire game with so many variables that everyone should be able to create their own perfect "environment" for playing.

Thank you TreeCardGames, GGOTD and White Rabbit for a most excellent Easter present. I will enjoy this one for a long, long time.

I couldn't get the setup to install, think it was my end, kept saying the process was already opened. Anyways, I went to their website and downloaded the game there, used the activation code I got from the form and activated it. It then upgraded to the newer version.

Excellent giveaway, thanks!
I don't really hanker for Mahjong much any more, and have so many choices, but this is a very good one.
I wish they'd branch out to other card games!!!!!!!
Plenty of unusual games that are good, get very little loving, like:
Big 2 and Chinese Poker.
I have versions of both, but are not standard fare for the masses.

Looks like a good game, thanks! I did the update but I don't know if it updated the game or not. I found an update folder within the game folder, with an exe file. I tried to run it, but kept getting the message that it must be run from the command line (even when running as an admin in win 7 64). When I ran the exe from command I still got the same message. How do I know if the update wrapped into the main game? I know that it did download, into an update folder, but with that separate exe file-Mahjongsuite_update.exe). How do I know if it ran or not?

Registration and the *one time update* done without issue (note: when the update is complete, the button should be a Close, not a Cancel one). Playing fine on my laptop (Win7 64 Home Premium SP1, 4 GB RAM, ATI HD 5470 512 MB). Just a little bit slow to start up and changing preferences too, but nothing serious.
Nice tiles, backgrounds and layouts, good set of options and stats.
I recommend the menu view (as opposed to the ribbon view) - the tiles get larger. ;)
And yes, to include a mode for real Mahjong play would be great! I never played that, I could try it :)
Thanks guys.

I was so glad to see this!! I love Mahjong (even tho it's just "Solitaire")! I had other Mahjong games, but when I upgraded my laptop they wouldn't play on my new one. I have played this one and thanks to WhiteRabbit was able to register it easily. I read earlier where someone said that there were no hints but there are with the 'Tutor Help'. I downloaded the gamepack that was available with no problem also. So there are lots of backgrounds and cards available. I like it very much and will have lots of hours of mindless play with it. Thanks GGAOTD and Treecard Games!

Haven't had a proper chance to play the game yet, but have to agree registration could be easier. I was happy enough to provide basic detail to register, but the first page to load was to receive their newsletter not for registration, which I found a bit sneaky - if it was going to load a page, why not the correct one?
That said, once onto the correct page minimum details were needed and c/p of the name and code were easy.

Then I had problems running the update - I tried downloading it three times and each time it failed to install files and giving me an error message, and then the game didn't want to play properly either. I tried rerunning the several hours later and it all seems fine now.

..........................Moderator comment......................

Hi Sophisticat, I didn't get their newsletter. All I got when I followed the link they provided was their page with the application for a reg code, then the page with the reg code itself. The problems running was probably due to the high numbers of users trying to update the game. We are talking over 18 downloads of the add-on pack every minute since the giveaway started this morning (assuming everyone has bothered to update it)

I have never found a Giveaway game that DEMANDS by trickery that I purchase the game like this TreeCard game.
I had an earlier version that gave me no trouble. NOW I can't play any of it without "coughing up" for this free giveaway of the day.

Not nice people to trick us in that way.

......................................Moderator comment...................................

Hello Bill, there is no trickery involved. nearly seventeen and a half thousand users have downloaded this game, with only several users being unable to register it, usually because they haven't read the instructions properly. I've tried to explain several times how registration is carried out. There's no way you have to pay for this game to get a fully working version; on top of that, the developer has allowed us to update the game with the free content usually only reserved for those who have paid money for the game.

This is VERY nice, though I have one tiny complaint. I hit the "flow view" button to see what it was all about and now I can't find a way to view the backgrounds as thumbnails again (as in one of the screenshots in the review above), even though the flow view was only supposed to be for the game itself. It's not enough to make me dislike the game, of course, but it really bugs me now to have to view each background, one at a time, when I want to look at a thumbnail of all of them. :( Still, this is otherwise a lovely giveaway, and there are so many nice tile sets available!

.......................................Moderator comment...........................

That's strange. when I select to see the layouts in Flow View I just have to click on the X in the top right hand corner for it to revert to the normal view. You do have to re-click on the 'Select a Game' button to restart the window with the grid of 4 x 3 layouts.

Maybe it's just me, but I find this way too complicated for Mahjong. I mean it's Mahjong, for goodness sake. I don't want to think about it, I just want to choose a layout and play - the simpler the better. This one is not a keeper for me.

I forgot to mention in my previous comment about "failed to connect" that if one has problems with any secondary activation (e.g., usernames, passwords, activation codes, email addresses, etc.) my ideas will not help you. My previous post was solely about the GGOTD / GOTD "wrapper" that is most usually displayed when running the setup.exe that is in the zip file downloaded from here.

Here's an example: Last week at GOTD, a screen marker programme was offered which activated fine, but totally failed to register. Oddly, the programme thanked me for registering, but continued to display "trial version." It seemed that was a common problem that day and most, if not all, of the posts that day seemed to be from shills. Several other GOTD users I stay in touch with also could not get that one to work, thus trialware was slipped in. One person did contact the company directly and they did activate it, but the programme laster failed to start.

Failure to connect has nothing to do with these types of registration problems.

My previous post today referenced comment no. 48, but that later changed to no. 72 - just so no one thinks I am bonkers.

Hope this helps.

Happy Easter everyone.

Cheers.

Great Mahjong game absolutely brilliant.

Installed flawlessly as also the registration, just follow the registration instruction in the readme.txt and copy and paste the info given by Treecard Games on the second screen.

My thanks to Treecard Games and the Game Giveaway crew.

I appreciate the giveaway today- I very much enjoy solitaire mahjongg. I haven't yet tried the game but I have one thing already to say to the author of their website, who may or may not be the game author: I *don't* appreciate what you did with the confirm email field on the registration page. I am sure some won't agree with this, but when confirming the email address, why make me type it again? That is plain annoying. For those wondering why I am writing this, I looked at the HTML code for the page and this field specifically turns off autocomplete, drag, drop, and paste meaning I can't type the email once in the email field, visually verify that I typed it correctly, then click and drag it over to the confirm field, nor can I copy and paste it. Only typing it (again) is allowed. I had no idea this could be done but now that I do I think I will look for an add-on (Grease Monkey?) that disables this unnecessary behavior.

Very nice version of Mahjong Solitaire. No problems registering (but I did check the readme).

I like the way the Windows Task Bar still appears at the bottom of the screen - that makes this program very useful for taking a break and switching back and forth from what I ought to be doing to what I want to do.

I also really liked the wide variety in tilesets and backgrounds.
Many similar programs have mostly color variations for the different tilesets. Also, the tileset design is very clean and easy to read.

Many of the things I would like to see changed are covered by others - I'd like to see a version of real Mahjong, more default avatars, fix the 'cancel' button after updating, etc. I would also like to see an option to randomize the tileset and background as well as the layout.

Thank you, TreeCardGames for the very nice game and WR for the review and links.
