Shooter Arena In Ruins is a first person arena shooter.

As with all of Jurij's games, this is another first person shooter created using the unity engine and played in a city arena setting. The game is based in a ruined city and you only get the one level. That said, this game appears slightly different to previous titles we've had from this developer; for example, the graphic seems to be slightly better that previous titles and the weapon selection is different. Your default weapon is a pistol with lots of ammo (compared to all the previous titles where you only got 10 bullets to start) as well as an armoury of other weapons that are accessible via a HUD that you bring up pressing the I button. The selected weapon or item will show up in green on the HUD. You can pick up extra ammo dropped from soldiers you have shot. You also have some grenade's. The weapon selection screen which appears as an overlay (see the first image below for details). There are three weapons to each section of the armoury. You can be navigated the armoury using the A o& D keys to scroll left or right and the W & S keys to navigate up and down through the weapons. There's a much bigger arsenal of weapons compared to previous games from this developer and include a Revolver, Pistol, Dual Pistols, Chainsaw, Molotov Cocktail, a few different Assault Rifles, Carbine, Sniper Rifle, Shotgun, RPG (rocket launcher), modern Compound Bow (much like the one used in the Rambo movies), Baseball Bat, Satchel Charge, Knife and useful equipment such as a torch and a riot shield (can't be used in conjunction with weapons that require both hands such as the compound bow or satchel charge. To select an item scroll then use the Left mouse button to grab. The left mouse button is used to fire the weapon the right mouse button is use to look down the iron sights or scope. I found the sniper rifle scope much too powerful and only useful for the longest distances, which in this arena you won't find many due to the layout of the streets; that said, all weapons have a reasonable cursor to indicate where you should shoot . The graphic configuration has three settings (Fast, Good, Fantastic). The first setting takes up fewer resources and is ideal for older computers.. You can see a slight change in the graphic, but it's not really significant enough to detract from the overall graphic feel of the game..

If you lose health it does recover over time. F1 does not bring up a list of key bindings as previous titles did.

Unfortunately the controls cannot be rebound.

Personally I like this game more than any of the previous titles from Jurij, but like most games with only one level, it does becomes a little tedious after playing it for a while. The challenge is to stay alive for as long as you can. Soldiers randomly spawn around the level, including right in front of you or behind you, so you'll need to watch your six's. This is an ideal coffee break game, where a 15 minute session should sate your appetite until you have time to play a more realistic or diverse shooter such as ArmA 2 or 3, any of the Call of Duty games, Counter Strike Global Operations (the base game is now free on Steam) or one of the many big name AAA games now available at a reasonable price (e.g. one of my very favourite shooter games released back in 2004, called 'Men of Valor' (based on the various campaigns during the Vietnam War) can be had for a few pounds via Steam when they have a sale on. I bought 15 copies just before it was released to Steam (I didn't know it was going to be released and had bought them from a clear out from a game shop for £1 each intending to send them to friends and all were still in their original cellophane wrappers)
