I played this game about 3 times and loved it. Then I went to play again and it wouldn't work. I get the opening screen but the words where you choose what you want to do have the end of them missing and just shows some lines for the rest of the words. And the pointer looks funny. When I choose to play I go to that screen and there aren't any balls. The shooter shows and so does the back ground and again the curser looks funny. I downloaded it for my grandson and now I can't get it to work. Any idea's

Did anyone running W2000 have problems running this? Seemed to install fine but immediately got an error that the d3d8.dll couldn't be found. Can anyone shed some light for me? I don't genereally use this computer for GAOTD but our XP system is down.

After an indordinately long and completely unexpected hiatus, I have returned. My review is in the forums, as usual:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/2615

>Ktoo/bfnanna/Nathan

"Oh goody! Here we are again, the Entitlement Generation p***ing and moaning about the freebie. News flash kids: GOTD owes you absolutely nothing. If you like what you see download it. If you don’t, keep your trap shut and move on. You “gimme gimme gimme” whiners are annoying."

"Remember, folks, these are free games. If you don’t care for them, don’t download them. How easy is that? Don’t complain about the folks who are offering these games FREE!"

"STOP WHINING….. IT’S FREE!!!!"

The only "whiners" are people like you. It's not your software, so why are you so sensitive about complaints? Besides, why should people be uninformed about flaws in anything, including a giveaway. These comments are here both to inform the developers about public opinion, and to inform visitors about whether a download is worthwhile. For example, read this comment by BuckleysMom:

"No thanks, I’ll pass on this one just on the comments."

If you don't like what other people think of it, "keep your trap shut and move on".

>Betty/duberman

There should be more commenters like you. I especially liked what duberman said about criticizing software versus criticizing comments.

>bfnanna(again)

"#32 I agree, to a point. I think opinions are ok and also valuable, but insults are NOT ok."

Fine, so do I. I have to ask, though, where are these "insults" that you speak of?

"I think the ones that just complain, and do it with put downs are the ones I think are counterproductive."

"Put downs"? None here, except toward other posters.

I tried to like this game, I really really did, because I really like this type of game. I do like how it plays and the graphics are good in my opinion, and it is enjoyable to me, but after playing over 8 games and it stopped recording high scores, even after getting my highest on Relaxed/Hard mode, well, that just made me disappointed in it. I cleared the scoreboard and played another quick relaxed game on hard and got a score of 59420 and looked at the scoreboard and it recorded it at 56720. That did it for me and I won't be playing it any more. I think it has potential though, with scoring fixes and the suggestions in Whiterabbit,s last paragraph in his post. Thank you for the chance to try your game NovaGame, and as always, thanks to GGOTD.

To #22, #31, and others, please keep in mind that the purpose of this forum is to allow visitors to share their opinions of the games. The postings are probably read by the site owners and game developers/publishers. The opinions are all taken into account, whether positive or negative.

These opinions, one would hope, might affect the games offered here and possibly help the developers create better games or add new features.

So just saying "I love you, GGAOTD" or "I love you, developer" isn't very helpful, is it? The assumption is that everyone loves the game and more of the same type will follow.

Rather than taking the approach of "if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything," I would suggest:

If you don't have anything to contribute, then don't. Comments like yours are pointless because they aren't helping anyone. I come here to find out what others think of the game, not to see people criticize others. Your true nature and prejudices come through loud and clear for everyone to see.

Please take your own advice and stop whining about the postings. Instead of viewing it as complaining or whining, maybe it would help if you thought of each posting as that person's "review." A little kindness goes a long way.

Now with that out of the way, on to my review.

Since I've never played this type of game, it was new and different to me, although it does fall into the category of match 3 or more shapes/colors. I like Egyptian themes, and the music is unobtrusive so it doesn't seem too repetitive. I turned up the volume from the default music setting and turned it down on the sound effects.

I actually did better on timed mode than on "relaxed" mode. The game lasted a lot longer for me that way and on my first try, with normal difficulty, I scored over 17000 points. Not that it means anything, though, since you can't share your high scores online. That kind of feature might get people more interested in the game, especially the competitive-spirited.

In the timed mode, you can tell that you reached another level when you hear a chime. Then the spheres drop at a faster rate, with two or three rows at a time instead of one.

There does seem to be some thinking and strategy involved as you try to match higher spheres that will cause the ones below it to separate and break up on their own. Also, bouncing the spheres off the columns on the side takes some aiming skill to get the more difficult shots.

However, some type of bonus spheres would make it more interesting. Maybe some that explode, plow through to the top, bounce around a lot, or destroy all spheres of one color.

All in all, not a bad game, although not one that will be in my favorite games folder on my desktop. There are other game types that I prefer, and plenty of them were acquired on this site.

Where's the instant gratification...."level complete" just a constent barrage of falling squiggly orbs. Unless I really suck at this type of game and never made if that far with my score of 110k

I've been coming here for about 2 months now and there's one thing I don't get. Isn't this supposed to be the place for comments? Are opinions not allowed? Because the one person here always complains about people giving their opinion..which is that person giving his/her opinion. HMMMM. I do agree they are free and we don't have to take it. But I also believe knowing how people feel and what they are looking for would be beneficial to GOTD. Jus my opinion.

This game is well rather slow, If you are looking for a Pogo version..it is not, it would be nice if you could more your shooter to 3 different positions Like in the middle and on each end. but with the shooter being stationary I find the game well not as good, I would give the game 5 of 10, it is playable.

No need to ramble on today, niteraven and moo were on the right track with this one. I did like the colors though  - they gave me a candy floss feeling. I've taken a few screen captures, but as I overslept by over four hours today there's no point in writing up a long winded review, so I'll just jot down a few ramblings.

It's playable enough, and if you do just want to put your feet up and click away for several minutes or more it's easily done. There is a satisfying feeling when you manage to get a large section of pastel colored baubles to drop, which is very easy to do when set on easy, but not so on hard. You can see the difference between easy and hard by following the link to the images I've captured below. Basically on hard there are very few matching balls adjacent to each other, so it takes a lot more effort to clear the field. In the short space of time I played this I wasn't able to, so I wouldn't say the game is specifically for kids as I'm sure on the hard setting they would get a little frustrated.

The game play is solid, the theme, though a little overdone over the last few years, is pleasant enough and the graphics are okay, so I'd have to score it a 6 out of 10. The game works. It may not have all the bells and whistles of some games, but it's okay.

To the developer: I think the game could be improved a lot if you were to add some goals that were awarded with medals or something upon those lines. you could also add some mini games into the pot as well (most of my favorite arcade games have mini games contained within the main game), otherwise this doesn't stand high amongst the others of this sub genre of match three or more bubble shooters. For example: Bubble Odyssey with it's quirky shapes and bright explosions and Phantasia 2 that has a foreboding atmosphere, with it's more interesting modes that even includes an arkanoid clone of sorts and it's variety of shaped bubbles. Both were much more interesting giveaways of this genre, though if you missed those (going back to January/Feb 2007) today’s giveaway should be a welcome addition.

This is a very simple game. I thought at first it had no ending to it, but after playing the timed level I finally understood the object of the game. You have to keep shooting at the colors until you get rid of one color, the you are playing to getting rid of the rest of the colors till there is only one color left.

I am a die hard three match three shooter gamer, but this one is a little too slow for me, and I felt that there was really no challange to the game, and that maybe a young child would like this game better.

I will be deleting this game and just wait to see what comes up tomorrow.
Thanks anyway GGOTD.

Ok... Scarab Shooter

Download, installation and play all went fine on Vista 32 bit Home Premium.

Well.. Its basically a Snood clone.. or Auqua Bubble which we got here a few weeks back. Personally, I like the Egyptian theme, but even that couldn't save this game for me.

The graphics are ok I guess. Not much to see. I have only seen one field of play and I have played this and played it and played it. I think I was hoping to find some redeeming quality here. The music is ok.. I'll say that. Oh, and I really like the icon.

If you're a Snood fan its probably worth at least downloading. Lots of people don't seem to like the Egyptian theme. As I said I love the historical themes, but if you don't I wouldn't bother.

I do appreciate all the games that GGOTD gives us very much... this one just left me feeling flat and kind of sad. I tried to find good stuff here.. it just wasn't there. Normally I don't like to post negative comments, but this isn't really negative exactly... its just kinda blah. That having been said, I feel a great need to take my sad self to yesterdays giveaway and smash things with my huge hammer. Looking forward to tomorrow! :)

I'm basically addicted to "Frozen Bubble", so, comparing Scarab Shooter to that game I have to say that Scarab Shooter is a simple game. It doesn't have any level editor but, hey, it's just for relaxing. I like the no timing mode.

Hm. I dunno, folks, and I must thank GGAOTD for the chance to try this game and keep it for FREE, as always. But this one is a shooter "match three in a group of balls." The thing is, it seemed like I played it forever, and it didn't end. And I was playing in "timed," not "relaxed" mode. I don't mind these when I'm feelin' lazy, but this went on and on and on and on... never started another level. There seemed to be no goal or purpose to the game. But that's just my opinion... some may like it, especially kids. And I'm a kid at heart, and this one got even me bored. Lol! But thanks, GGAOTD... and try it for yourself, folks.!

I don't want to sound ungrateful but that was one of the least imaginative match 3 ball games yet. On top of that if a new layer is added you can't fire so when it starts adding a few layers it's easy to get killed even if have the ball to save yourself.

I tell you what why doesn't GGAOTH give the match 3 balls and breakout clones a rest for a few weeks, how about a hidden object game (or did I just miss one?)

Why oh why do I download so many shooter games? Well maybe beause they are a fun way to pass the time and they don't ask for much brain power.
This one has pleasant pictur background - a quirky main menu (you fire the balls at the item you wish to open) works OK on Vista but unless you are a child or pretty old don't bother with the Easy setting as it is rather slow - the harder setting is OK though.
I'll keep it for a while
