has anyone tried to get the skyaces working using the netgame.exe
program? I have tired on my network using two of my pc's , one as host and one to join, it see's the host , but fails to join ever time.
firewall is disabled and it should be good to go...

You can put your ip address in the "join box" but I found it finds your ip host address anyway you do it, just fails to connect execute the game link.

Childish game, very simple arcade game. Maybe okay for a five year old. Not even in the same ball park as Flight Simulator of any version.

Downloaded the game to my XP desktop, transferred the zip file to my Vista Business laptop. On my laptop, I get the memory error that many people are getting. Is there a solution to this? #68 mentioned creating a shortcut and then moving it to the start menu. Can you check the settings on the shortcut and post them, so we can try and duplicate it?

On my XP desktop, with a Tevion 19" flat screen LCD, the screen turns different colours in a kind of inkblot pattern, and then fades to black and does nothing. alt-tab is very hard to get going. I did once switch the screen off and on again and a menu screen came up, but when I tried to star training, the screen went to black again before the video signal disconnected, and I had to reboot.

I really want to play this but I am disillusioned by the technical obstacles in the way.

So far this game is pretty cool.... It's fairly easy to get into the swing of things and there's nothing better than blowing up buildings and shooting planes out of the sky.

#89 in all likelyhood the vista memory access violation is likely due to hardware DEP being enabled in all but selected applications since it has been reported that DEP in XP caused a similar error. I used to run with DEP set for all apps but found too many sloppily written programs that just made it impractical to use. This runs fine in vista home premium in its default DEP configuration for me. MS Virtual PC will not be of any use for programs requiring a 3D video card as it only emulates a basic 2D card.

I have vista home and it works fine.
Ya gotta have a 3D graphics card in your PC if you want to play games properly though.
Well worth the investment if you game a lot.
Just a thought.

Great game and no problems on Vista Premium. You can change the camera view, just press the 'c' key to cycle through the options. The 'v' and 'b' key always provide and overhead view for bombing and a look behind you view for dogfights.

you know all these people complaining about vista not running games....have any of you ever heard of MS Virtual PC???? its free to download from MS and then run XP (or 98 for that matter) as a virtual machine. Anyway I'm still running XP so i had no problems with this game. I played with the mouse which seemed fine. With regard to the comment about the unrealistic flight; I don't believe this is supposed to be a flight simulator but a arcade flight shooter. Good value although i dont' see myself playing it again.
More games like this one please.

Oh wow, I got Wings of War to work and it's brilliant. Photo realistic scenery, and WWI planes that look a lot more realistic than toays giveaway. If this is trully free I'm really impressed. I have The Red Baron, which is very dated now but in it's day was a superb WWI Flight Sim.

Assuming this is a legal free game, once you've unpacked all six zip files into a new file, allowing files to be overwritten if they are called for, then replace the WoW executable with the v1.0 no CD patch, uless you decide to patch it to v1.2 first, then use the v1.2 no CD patch instead. Once that's done you have to set the game up by clicking on the set up file which enables you to install it to wherever you wish. If you want a desk top shortcut you'll have to go to the start menu and copy the shortcut there to the desktop. That's it. The game works really well.

I'm still sceptical as to whether this is legal as it seems too good a game to be free, though you could say that for GTA and GTA 2.

Thank you RedNeck, Wings of War looks really promising. I'm downloading the files right now.

To Fullbug comment #65.

If you go to the bottom of the download page there are six seperated download links: fileID2686, 2674, 2673, 2670, 2664 and 2663. download each of those (each one is 195Mb apart from the last file which is ~79Mb but you can only download 2 at a time so I am still downloading) Once you've got all six, unpack them into a folder which you can name Wings of War. Once all have been unpacked and added to the same folder, place the folder wherever you keep your games, update to the v1.2 version (unless you want to see whose online using v1.0 first. Once you've patched the game, exchange the appropriate files for the ones from the No CD patch, then create a shortcut using either the send to command (right clicking the mouse) or create a short cut command. That's it. The game should work.......

Though I've not got that far yet as i'm waiting for the last file to finish downloading, so I'm just assuming that is the case.

Hmmmm, is this actually legally free? It just seems a little odd as I've checked other sites and it's still being sold. i'd suggest the moderators check this out. If it's okay fine if not I'm sorry. Just delete this post.

This game is made with Blitz 3d... I know, because I have the same programming language, and the files are Blitz 3D files. Any memory access violations are likely to be due to individual video card incompatibilites. But once activated and unzipped, it looks like it will function indefinately; independantly of windows registry so the game files could be moved to another computer if it doesn't work on the one it's installed on now.

memory access violation again!! always on these older games!! I will look at the free games around as they are not usually a concern .. would be nice if the software developers would finish their development properly and not leave bugs to the end users...

I still like Red Squadren and the other Small Rockets version. This one is nice for its age... but every few minutes it gets stuck, and usually when I am shooting... So I get to listen to the shooting sounds and hope I wasn't in a dive. I will have to try this on my other machine. It looks like fun.

And UN-INSTALLATION - Make sure you check your registry (Search for "Sky Aces") installation enters some parameters into registry. Interesting too, because there are settings that you can tweak in there that aren't available in the menu settings.
Good luck.

I spent a few hours with this game and give it a thumbs up. I'll have to see how much staying power it has. I installed it in its own directory under "program files" and created a shortcut. It's running just fine on Vista for me. Thank you for one of the better games of the last few months.

#16 When you unziped the package you downloaded (doble clicking the set up icon) the WinZip Self-Extractor Windows opened. You didn't un-check the option (overwrite files without prompting)that is selected by default in the WinZip Self-Extractor windows. Thats why your files on the destination folder (in your case c:/games) was overwritten...I recomend you every time you are downloading something to open a New Folder (with the name of the game or sofware you are downloading) and install it there, that way you dont take the risk loosing or overwritting any important information on your computer and make it easy for you to find and know where all your downloads are...check it..

#37 Scott: I have a 26" TV which I use for my family room monitor, but unfortunately there are no PC drivers for it. While most games and programs seem to work fine, I have had a few from GGAOTD which act the way you describe. I have gotten a few of those to work by pressing escape and then getting to a non-fullscreen mode and then changing resolution. I have gotten others to work by looking for an ini file or other configuration file and changing the resolution there. I am by no means a game expert, but this has worked for me (sometimes.)

Downloaded and installed fine. Nice flight sim. Yes, there are better ones out there but they are bigger files and more expensive. :(

It takes a little time to get accustomed to the controls, a joystick may be better for some users but I didn't mind the mouse controls to much.

Those of you having problems, be sure to check the minimum requirements. For example, Vista is not listed so this may not run well on Vista machines (but I believe there is a way to fix that?). Also, older slower machines may have trouble with the graphics. If you turn some of the quality down it may run better (set for speed instead of quality).

This reminds me of a flight sim game I have that goes with my force feed back joystick. I haven't reinstalled the joystick since my last rebuild but I may have to do that soon. ;)

Overall a nice change of pace from the usual offerings. Thanks GGAOTD and IncaGold!! :D

Having Vista Home Premium, I downloaded, installed, created a shortcut on the desktop by finding the executable and right-clicking and then on attempting to kick it off got the "memory access violation" error others encountered.

However, after leaving it to do a few other bits I came back to uninstall, for some reason decided to drag the executable directly to my Start menu for a final try... Now it works every time and cranking all the way up to 1920 x 1200 x 32 - a nice little game.

Don't know if the way that the shortcut was created matters, the time delay before 2nd attempt to start, or what, but maybe that bit of info may help somebody to theorise. Either way, hope you other WVHP users have similar luck!!! :-)

While this is not my favorite genre, I think this is a keeper. To be honest, I get my flying kicks from the old game Hardwar. Which I have not been able to play online for a few years since I installed the wireless network at home. I think this will take up some of my sick time though.

I have kinda lost touch with the flying games due to the big Horsepower needs of Microsofts Flight Simulator. Hell, even latest Railroad sim woln't play on my XP.

But this is a pleasant, albiet tricky game.

I found what seems to be an error because I have duplicated it twice.
The part where you have to destroy the buildings at the harbor.
If you fly low and bomb the fuel tanks, you die and the screen starts spinning and won't stop.
The only way I found to stop it is alt/tab then shut down the program

also its a bit hard for us older people.

Well, I hate this game. My son was playing for a few minutes and it froze. That by itself wouldn't have been a big problem, but it changed my display and I cannot get it back. It made everything do a 180 degree turn so everything is upside down. I'm typing this in safe mode; otherwise, I'd be really screwed. Anyone have any helpful suggestions? I'm working on fixing this. It has been two hours now. I've never had anything like this happen before with anything from this website and we've been here almost a year. Makes me rather leery. :-(

Well...

Although the installation of the game is a bit awkward, it plays fine.
Quick pro's:
- Could fly the plane(s) 'right out of the box'. Mouse controlled, too! Nice.
- It has campaigns, nice.
- Dogfights, yay! :)
- Fly different planes, yay! :)
- 3D World.

Quick con's:
- Outdated graphics.
- "You successful", mmmkay...
- Bad rendered letters, in blood red after ending a game. Bleh.
- Not really an impressive game, IMHO.

It's a 66+ MB sized game (after installation) with an overpriced price tag at $14.95.
One cannot expect too much from it. However, if you like flying planes and dogfights, really, really much, whatever the con's mentioned above; try it out. This one might be just for you.

I might keep it, if the progress with the campaigns is challenging and different enough. If not; it's gone.

Thumbs up for the effort, but just barely.
Thanks, as always, to GGOTD and also to IncaGold.
