Hi Folks, just a short update on yesterday. Things are extremely painful at the moment, so much so I'm exhausted to the point I just don't want to do anything. I've had lots of different types of pain over the years, either through accidents that have led to broken bones and crush injuries as well as appendicitis, eye operations and other op's etc, but the pain in my leg and lower abdomen combined are the worst I've ever felt and that's with me wearing a Fentanyl patch and taking other opiate meds as well as other pain meds (Gabapentin). I've taken extra morphine to try and alleviate the constant pain, but the opiate doesn't seem to touch it, as for Gabapentin, I won't take any more of that as it used to make me feel sick when I was on a higher dose ( 600mg three times a day). Paracetamol nor ibuprofen also haven't helped. :) Have a great week folks.

I'm sorry I've not been able to moderate today. I only dropped by to see if there had been any activity from Swampy, who as some of you know has been posting some awful/disgusting posts using different names such as Satans Slut. I've just deleted one from today where he said I'd been shot by my son while doing archery; his humour seems to have no bounds. With respect to the pain, my leg feels like it's in permanent tetany, the type of pain you get when you get a cramp and don't stop it in time, but it's there all the time and much worse some of the time. Once they have finished all of the investigations I've been booked into, I'll know more, but I'm sure it's nothing serious. Thanks to all who have shown concern. Very much appreciated. :)

Stephen - as a fellow chronic pain sufferer, I sympathize, wish you well, hope for a speedy (and full!) recovery. Your fans are legion and pulling for you in droves, hope that cheers you.

Have no game comment today, just doesn't interest me, based on comments below.

Hi, Stephen/Whiterabbit-uk! Very relieved to learn what was happening yesterday directly from you. I won't dare say I can imagine what you went (and go) through continually, but I do admire how you've managed to make it a part of a positive life. Hope you'll be over this 'bump' soon, and I do imagine that reading all the concern and care, here, may help you in that. Good to see that you're also still capable of treating someone, who apparently went off the deep end, in a way that minimizes the 'fallout', to you and others. Thanks, and the best to you, as always.

Whiterabbit-uk, It's so good to hear from you. I am sorry for your chronic pain. I hope they can give you some relief soon. Is it Sciatica? If so perhaps a visit to a chiropractor may help. I suffered from that for nearly 9 months, until I could no longer walk, when I finally went to one, and it was what helped me to be able to walk again.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Cherish, the damage to my buttock and coccyx area at the time of the accident did cause some problems with the sciatic nerve, but it's not the reason for the pain I'm in at the moment. I've learned how to control the pain from the sciatic nerve. I use a gel pad when I sit on our dining room chairs and a good memory foam pad on my wheelchair and computer chair. I usually take another gel pad with me (each cost around £140) when I have to go visit doctors, hospitals etc. That helps tremendously. I also tend to sit with less weight on the left hand side becasue that was where significant damage was done when i hit the ground. I'm still numb in that area after 11 years. Thankfully, the use of the gel cushions, my leaning to the right when sitting and the use of gabapentin, which helps nerve pain seems to have stopped sciatica almost totally. The present pain is in my right lower leg (mainly) plus other pain that started before the leg pain in my abdomen. The medics say they are not related so I'm being investigated separately for both.

Whiterabbit-uk,

I am sorry to hear about your illness. Have you considered acupuncture as a possibility? It is a long shot but it may help since your pain seems to be muscle/nerve based.

I hope you find relief soon.

Whiterabbit-uk, It is good to see that you are well enough to give us an update. I totally understand about the pain getting to the point where you just don't want to do anything. I have an intrathecal pain medication infusion pump implanted into the area right beside the spine to help with my pain and even with the dilaudid that I get from that, I have to take percocet to help with the pain that the pump isn't taking away. I will be praying for you Stephen. God Bless and I pray that they will figure out what this is and that they will be able to get rid of it.

Well now myself and everyone else on this site wish you a speedy and a hopeful pain free recovery. I know how you feel being in pain 24/7, its no fun and I am not going to dwell on it or try and glorify how it affects us. I think you should have a few weeks away from moderating and let us moaning lot argue about whether a game is any good or not, after all Stephen we are the experts and you are just a glorified writer who pops on every now and again, yea right course you ain't, you do a bloody good job mate, but now look after yourself and ignore us for a few weeks, All the very best Mate.

Dan,

Hi Dan, I've been keeping a record of his posts (by screen captures); so, if the owners wish to proceed, I'll sent them all of the evidence. Just realized though that the posts he's made today under Satan's Slut will only appear on his own computer and the Admin panel because the IP he's used for that was blocked by me. I keep forgetting that blocked IP's still show up here, but not to the community; which is lucky because some of his language has been not only appalling, but disgusting.

blp,
Hi blp, Since being sent home with a broken back and serious head injuries (the A^E said i'd received bruising and a sprain I've not lived a day without it. Even with the pain meds, which I've been taking now for over 11 years, but apart from this recent episode, which i'm sure is not related to my previous injuries, I seem to have either managed to blank out a lot of the pain that the opiates didn't mask, or I'm so used to it, it's not been as distracting as it used to be. I do play a lot of games, read and watch TV all day to keep my mid off the pain, which does help. It's only when i contemplate that it seems worse. This recent pain has been unbelievably exhausting. Would like to thank you for your understanding. I hope the meds you take are effective enough. I expect you have found your own distraction therapy as well. :) Take care.

Whiterabbit-uk, when my leg got that super intense cramp that would not go away it turned out to be a blood clot in my leg.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

That's what they are investigating at the moment. I will be going for a scan early this week. They did some tests such as measuring the size of my calf and comparing it with the other, temp changes etc and said they were unsure as the score was indecisive. I was going to be given warfarin as a temporary fix just in case, but i declined. Personally I don't think it's a DVT now, but I was worried that it was at first due in part to having looked after patients while an ICU nurse who sometimes suffered DVT due to not moving their legs much, which I don't. But I'm now convinced it's more like lots of cramps that are damaging the muscles. The pain is very similar to that I had when having bad cramps when I used to be a long distance runner in my youth and 20's (anyone know Steve Ovett a long distance runner from the late 70's who won gold medals at the Olympics., I've ran in the same races as he, but I never got better placement, usually coming in mid field, whereas he usually came in first.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Yes, I think so too. I've screen captured the post and added it to the rest. I think that's the third or fourth name he's used so far. I had a very similar situation like this many years ago when a friend and I used to run a site dedicated to a certain America's Army Clan. We had a new recruit, who at first seemed okay, but as we got to know him his behavior became very erratic. Basically he was asked to stop certain behaviors while we played other clans, which he didn't, after admonishing him a couple of times, we were forced to ban him from the clan, but he still had access to the clan site
He kept changing his name and re registering. We ignored his posts, just deleting them, but after about 6 months we felt it was affecting the rest of the clan as some of the posts often remained for several hours as we both worked so couldn't keep our eyes open all of the time. We eventually got so sick of his posts we just up sticks and moved to a new site, where we never heard from him again.

Stephen, yes of course I remember Steve Ovett! Lord Coe's big rival at the time ... and as I (vaguely!) recall, Steve Cram was also part of GB success at that time ...

I am pleased to read you are back; and ashamed to say I got taken in by the "archery story" possted earlier here (though it being posted in French should have been a clue!). All my best wishes for your tests, and let's hope they find out what's wrong and can do something about it.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Thanks Cad. Yes Coe was his rival. Steve Cram was a couple of years younger and basically replaced both Ovett and Coe later in their careers. While they were at their best (for two of the late 70's and early 80's Olympics Peter Elliott and Cram were number three and four respectively, but Cram obviously became our number one later in the mid 80's. Peter Elliott has never really been recognized, even though he won silver and was one of our best middle distance runners. Seb coe is the one who came out of that period with everything, but I think that was partly his political affiliations at the time. I was always a firm supporter of Steve Ovett, much preferring him to Seb, (but that could have been partly his politics and partly the fact that I'd met Steve and ran against him in several races (I never ever imagined beating him, which was probably why I never made it in athletics, I wasn't competitive enough).

Whiterabbit-uk,

What you've described sounds a lot like my experience. Although pain originally manifested itself in my hip, I quickly developed numbness in my left foot and outer ankle. After some neurological tests it was determined that I had a compressed disc in the L-5 region of my back, wherein the vertibrae were pinching the nerves to my left leg. I underwent surgery to enlarge the openings in the spine where nerves emerge, and that halted the advance of the increase in pain. However, the pain did not go away - it just didn't get any worse. Because I also have a degree of arthritis, I elected to undergo spinal fusion to ensure that further deterioration of my vertibrae did not cause a recurrence of the situation.

Sorry for the long-winded rant about MY condition, but your experience appears from my vantage point to be very similar. It took doctors several months to determine that the problem was in my back and not in my hip or lower leg. During that period I was unable to sleep in bed, but only in an upright position, and often once I fell asleep I would slump out of that position and a searing pain would interrupt the 5 minutes of sleep I enjoyed. I hope you're able to find a satisfactory solution to your issues, and that this comment helps you in some way.

One thing is for sure - "Old age ain't for sissies!" All the best to you for a swift recovery!

Whiterabbit-uk, Make sure they do an ultrasound for a blood clot! I had one in my leg that made it hurt so much I couldn't move it or put any pressure on it and it was constant and they found a blood clot. Once it was gone, so was the pain. I'm sure you're in good hands but I just wanted to be sure they do that for you as it can be fatal (depending on where the clot is, if you have one). I do hope you feel better very soon!

jbdean,

Hi,

I did go to the hospital following a telephone discussion with our NHS111 on Saturday 15th, which is a telephone service used if you can't see a doctor right away. The doctor, who incidentally was having a tea break while he was examining me, cleared me of a possible blood clot, after doing some measurements of my leg and other visible signs. The radiology/scan department was closed, but he deemed that I didn't have a DVT.

The pain had become almost unbearable by Monday morning, so I phoned my GP practice who gave me a telephone triage. The doctor gave me an appointment later that morning. When he saw my leg he immediately phoned the hospital and booked a Doppler, which showed that there was actually a very large blood clot at the back of my knee, which he thinks (becasue of the size of the clot) may have originated from a flight I took several weeks previously. (I remember being very uncomfortable and had not moved from my seat throughout the flight). I'm now on Xarelto, a fairly new blood thinner; at least for 3 to 6 months. I've been taking the tablets since Monday evening and for the first time this morning things seem to be easing a little. The pain is still excruciating, but gets easier as the day passes. Hopefully the pain will start to ease off more over the coming days.

Thank you to everyone who passed on well wishes. Sorry I've not replied to everyone. It was hard to sit here for more than a few minutes at a time.

I'm sure all is well. I've got some idea's as to what has happened. Just need to discuss with my GP. I've already had several investigations, but I thought most of them were unnecessary, my doctor said belt and braces treatment, which I've agreed to as you never know what else could be lurking, especially at my age (born in 1956)

Don't forget to check back on Thursday/Friday for another game (possibly a Steam code)

Whiterabbit-uk,

Not sure if you've heard of this but I got one in 2007 and have never had less pain in my life since using it. It's called True Back www.trueback.com and it did wonders for my siatica pain (which I've had since a terrible car accident in 1973). You can find it cheaper on eBay but it's well worth the investment and it's portable so you can take it with you when you go on holiday! Take care.

I've just heard about an herbal pain reliever that many people are raving about called Kratom. Don't know if it's available in the UK. There is a controversy raging in the US and the Food and Drug Admin wants to ban it, but it may be worth a try if you can get it. I've ordered some and will know soon if it's good. Email me if you want and I'll send you the info I have.

Rolling Idols: Lost City
The 2nd series in the 'Rolling Idol's' match 3 games from MPC, and for those that wondered if this is the same game as the one a few weeks ago, it is not, it has a few new elements and story to it, and I would advise watching the 'tips' closely as you play, There is now 'clean-up' bonuses on the Nirbu page, so look for them.
Know some will not like this format of the game, but we've found it fun and enjoyable, albeit it gets a bit tiring after a while, although it certainly is challenging!

Plays well on Win10 Pro x64 bit, and downloaded and installed well off My Play City. As always thank you GGOTD and MPC for the games!

WR, really hope you feel better very soon, and realize our prayers and wishes for better health are with you.

Hi Stephen,

Just a thought, as a similar thing happened to a work colleague.
Some statins affect peoples legs (muscles particularly).

If you take them, it might be worth investigating (changing the type taken).

Best wishes,

Mike

Download and installation without a problem under Win10 as usual.

Had to play the other one again to see the differences as I hadn't played it since we got it.

This one seems to be faster and easier to play - of course a keeper and Match-3 players will love it.

The graphics are sharp and bright - what I don't like is the rolling of the idols but as the title says I have to live with it I guess ;-)

Thanks for this one!

Hi Hans. :-)

Users reported problems with these antiviruses, in past months/years: Avast, Avg, Comodo, Kaspersky, Norton/Symantec, pados.hu TinyWall.
If you have one of those AV, you could try these possible solutions:
1) After you downloaded the package, put the setup.exe in the whitelist of your antivirus (this in case the package has been correctly downloaded)
2) disable the real-time/on-access scanning, just the time to download/install the software (then re-enable that function)
3) disable your AV completely, just the time to download/install the software (then re-enable it)
4) boot windows in safe mode with networking, just the time to download/install the software (sometimes this is necessary with kaspersky antivirus)

Hope this helps.

Hans, you can start to reinstall the game, watching carefully at each step for the one that shows the exact install location, then cancel the install before it proceeds. If that doesn't solve it, do a search for "game.exe" - every PlayCity game installs a file by that name, and you would just need to right-click on each, then click "open file location" to find the correct one.
Please post your results in case you need further help, ok?
John

Just looked at the MPC games again, all are installed in a folder named "MyPlayCity.com" - try looking for that instead. Mine is in "Program Files" (I have a 32bit machine), if it's a 64 bit system it would be in "Program Files(x86)"
Hope that helps!

Hans, if you have the icon on your desktop (or on your Start Menu) right click it and choose "Open File Location" that will show you where it is, and pay attention to the 'file path' listed in your File Explorer.
If you don't have anything to click on, use a file search program, and search for it by the title of the game given above, you can add a ".exe" to find the executable, or just search for "game.exe" which is in every MPC game, and should bring up all of them, just look at the folder name then.

Glad to hear from Rabbit even under these circumstances. Hoping for the best.
Game ok Windows 10. Like it. Large elements, just click & drag to match. Fun when hit a 5 chain and that sets off other chains. Did 7 levels. Sort of one of those 'just another level to get to remove/build things'. Haven't quite figured the 'formula' for max points. Sometimes would get all the locked cells unlocked but would still play on. Other times would say won level. Later the Diamond cell adds time to the countdown tube, but never did seem to run out of time to see if that loses a level or just prevents getting extra points. Hence no 'casual' choice but so far not big issue. Just looked for max chain size quickly. That's enough to keep it challenging for short bursts of play. Sliders for music & audio levels. 8.75/10 for fans. For those who must have Casual mode I guess 7/10. Thanks GOTD.

You know.... all of these match gem and puzzle adventure games are already available for free on MyPlayCity website. What exactly is different about this and other similiar offers???

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

You don't get the check-boxes when you first install the game, and in a lot of MPC's games and other games from other free game site you get at least one checkbox every time you boot up the game. These can easily be overlooked, which means you end up with toolbars, or you may find your home page changed or even your browser. All of those can easily be sorted, but it's still an annoyance.

warptek, read the part of the description, on top, that states "No third-party advertising and browser add-ons!"

Hi warptek. :-)

And you can also directly install the game in your preferred partition and folder, instead that in c:\program files(x86)\myplaycity(?)\name-of-the-game, because MPC installer doesn't provide the option to choose the installation location.

My anti malware program blocked this from installing :(

Reply   |   Comment by Anna  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Anna, turn it off. With all anti-virus and malware programs there are false positives. Turn it off, install, turn it back on. You can run it through the websites virus total and jotti.org which scan them with many well known anti-viruses to see if they are clean. They are. What your program is hitting on is something that the giveaway adds to prevent people from getting the game without having to register it with game giveaway of the day. For example, you could download it today and install it any day, anywhere, anytime, forever, if it didn't have this anti-hacking protection. That's all it is. Don't worry.

Reply   |   Comment by watcher13  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

One more point I forgot, Anna, once you turn your anti-malware back on, you should see no alerts from the game, another indication that it's a clean game.

Hi Anna.

First of all, it's a different game, probably a sequel. Secondly, in general, I can't believe all the people that complain about the FREE games. You are not entitled to these games, they are being offered. If you don't like it, don't download it, and if you do download it, don't complain. It's FREE. It cost you nothing.

White Rabbit has explained repeatedly that this inconvenience is because MyPlayCity wants some sort of acknowledgment/advertisement. I don't care for them either, but it takes me two seconds to delete them and I sometimes get a game I can enjoy for hours.

If you don't like it, don't install it. Just don't fuss when something is given to you.

I had read that "something" had happened to Stephen but that sounds horrific! I am just catching up with all this, so my best to Stephen and his family at this difficult time.

Swampy trying to be funny. He's mentioned death a couple of times now. Seems like he's taken a dislike to me simply because I corrected him on a few things he was mistaken about. Ah well, not every old man is mature enough to take criticism. Still, his comments are way over the top for a family site like this. I deleted it as soon as I was able.

The game doesn't look too bad, but I dislike programs that install extra icons and links on the desktop and menu without being asked, as all MyPlaceCity ones seem to do. Only played 2 levels then uninstallled.

Reply   |   Comment by Myk  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Myk, that's actually not true about those extra icons. At least it hasn't been for me. See my reply to DanO's comment below. His was one of the replies to comment #2.

Reply   |   Comment by watcher13  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

watcher13, Actually it's true for me too, it installs at least three extra icons on my desktop every single time I've downloaded a game from myplaycity. Is there a way to stop that from occurring?

Reply   |   Comment by Cherish  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Myk, just delete the extra 2 icons. Or as I do put them in recycle bin. every time I want to play I click the good icon and the game comes up. When finished playing then if BrowzerHighjack then I just hit the x at the top right.

Reply   |   Comment by Philip  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

I always get extra icons too but just delete them and only keep the icon to start the game.

What I really dislike is when I close the game the MPC website opens.

Hi schfrs. :-)

What problem?

Reply   |   Comment by xilolee  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

All of MPC's games come with shortcuts added to the desktop. They make no money from the giveaway, so they include a bit of promotion, hoping we will try out some of their other games. It can be annoying, but they are just links (not installs of any kind) and it takes just a moment to delete them. Seems like a small enough price to pay for a game to me.

Reply   |   Comment by DanO  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+7)

when I try to install all I get is that it activated correctly, but nothing gets installed.

Reply   |   Comment by schfrs  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

DanO, the game giveaway of the day version does not include these mpc icons. That's one of the advantages of getting it here. GGOTD disables everything except that the game will open your browser to the MPC website after you finish playing. Although there may even be ways to get around that. :)

watcher13, Actually, every time I've downloaded an MPC game from GGOTD it has included those shortcuts. What doesn't happen is, you don't get the check boxes in the download process that would install other 3rd party programs like toolbars or browser add-ons.

george, Disable your virus protection long enough to install the program. I've also been coming here for years but lately I've had to do this for a lot of the games. :-(

Reply   |   Comment by Marcy  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

george, I have no idea what is going on with your computer, but I have never had any problem downloading from GAOTD, I always save into a folder (named GAOTD), once downloaded I then run the setup exe and everything goes perfect and installs into either a Game or Software folder I named for each type from GAOTD then I delete all setup files Etc. been doing this for years, I run windows 10 now, but have run every windows operating system from the good OLD days, I hope you get it sorted.

george, since I was obliged to use the awful windows 10 I had that problem, until I disabled my avg only during the installation, and now everything runs

george,
personally I just have to close my AVG antivirus to solve this issue when I install a software from this site. It disagrees strongly with the GAOTD wrapper.
btw. I never found a virus here yet.

george,

Without getting into the weeds with an overlong explanation, GOTD works because you can only install an app or game the day of the offer. To achieve that they protect the setup file, so you can't get to it, save it, run it etc. whenever you like. If you can't see the setup file, neither can security software.

Some security software, e.g. Kaspersky always objects -- some security software objects sometimes, often after a *somewhat automatic* update [e.g. based on stuff uploaded to Virus Total], before anyone at the software company gets a good look at it. And when the security software objects, it deletes or quarantines the software or game's setup file before it can run.

All the GOTD software *sees* is that the software or game setup file is no longer running, & shuts down, showing you the activation message.

Sometimes you can turn off your security software scanning, & sometimes you can't -- when you can't, most people just run the GOTD offer in Safe Mode, when most security software scanning is inactive.
