Anyone know if it is safe to just delete the folder this game is in as there is no uninstaller with it. The game has never worked for me so I want it off of my system. It doesn't show up as a program where programs are uninstalled through windows.

I installed as directed and activated. the game never gets off the ground it stalls with the screen completely black. I have to use the task manager to close it as it responds to nothing. It is installed to C:/Games on my Vista x64 SP2 machine. Not sure what happened or why it will not work, but I am affraid to uninstall it as there is no uninstaller with it and ti does not appear in the add/remove programs either, Hmmmmm....................this sucks!!!

NEVER MIND about my short review!

Worst game ever created.

-Driving, bad.
-Refresh Rate / Frame Rate, too choppy!!! Even "Halo: Combat Evolved" isn't way better!
-8 laps? Your not kidding me right?

Result: Uninstall... NOW!

Why do developer continue using keyboard controls? The programming may be easier but sticking with a keyboard to control a fast moving object through sharp curves and obstacles is stupid. If a developer would take the time to add "joy stick" controls, his game would be different and marketable. As it is one more game like a thousand others.

...........................Moderator Comment................................

I agree Bigun, the all or nothing aspect of keyboard control when used for a racing game makes it hard to turn corners, whereas Steering Wheels tend to include force feedbacl controls that allow a smooth transition effect, so you can take corners ealistically; plus of course those with disabilities may not be able to play the game effectively.

There was a time when all racing games used steering wheels as an option. We rarely see the steering wheel or the joystick as a choice when trying to configure a game.

I got Memory access violation! What can I do to play this game? Please help me. If I can´t get it to run, please also tell me how I can uninstall it. Is it possible to delete just the folder? Thanks for help and have a good sunday!

Someone asked a similar question above re deleting the game. The answer is yes, you can delete the folder to get rid of the game.

The game can not be controlled by using Speed Racing Wheel and Pedals! Am I missing something? It works fine when using a keyboard or a mouse

.....................Moderator comment....................

Thanks or answering the question I possed at comment #1. I wonered whether a wheel could be used. Pity as I reckon it would have made the game much more playable.

Wow! I wanted this game!

Man, Fly Games pretty much giveaway all their products away for free during the past few weeks! Incredible! No offense, but how would they survive like this?

Anyways... the graphics looks impressively nice by just looking at the screenshots. Only improvement is of coarse, better graphics perhaps and put people in them!!!

Oh, one last thing; Online Armor ++" is still being gave away on their website!!! Check them out at http://www.tallemu.com/gaotd-813-te.php

Hope that helped! ...and no, I am not advertising "Online Armor ++", because this was yesterday's giveaway on GAOTD and I'm just telling everyone you can still get it free today. It might not tomorrow, so for those who didn't get it yesterday, now's your chance!

By the way, before you play games, shut down "Online Armor ++" completely, otherwise it would lag your game with tons of pop ups saying "this program needs your permission to run". "OA ++" doesn't have "gaming mode"... it's sad.

Hi All,
I've been coming here for years, got some cracking software too, mostly for the wife :) - (Puzzles etc ) BUT !,,,when it comes to Driving games there can be ONLY ONE, TRACKMANIA NATIONS FOREVER BEST FREE DRIVING GAME EVER !!!!! made by NADEO, Google it ! 3 million people play this online yes I know I'm addicted er, em, I will ofcourse still be coming to GGOTD for puzzles and stuff :).

..........................Moderator Comment...........................

For a freeware game, yes I agree it is the best racing game, but I do think there are better commercial versions available for exmple th recently released Dirt 2, Need for Speed: Shift, fuel and the older Flatout: Ultimate Carnage are just four that are way ahead of Trackmania. Though I do love my copy of Trackmania United Forever

I just played some single races and then a whole championship in a row and i must say, the game is far too easy. The other drivers dont stand a chance against my keyboard skills. :) As for the controls, after a while you get used to the hard reactions of the car. And YES, indeed there ARE differences when you select other cars! The default mercedes car: top speed 168 km/h, boost 256 km/h, sensitive steering, GOOD BRAKES. Some other car i tested: top speed 240 km/h, boost 290+ km/h, fairly too soft steering, BAD brake power! And the russian options, I think its about the difficulty of the opponents, i tested them but it wasnt quite the big difference i had hoped for. Computer players still too slow to beat me. Anyway, i will keep this one, its a nice game worth playing from time to time.

......................Moderator comment.....................

Thanks for clarifying the difference between the cars Hopper. I was in too much of a rush trying to get my review written this morning to spend enough time working out whether there was any differences. From th way I played there didn't seem to be any differenced, but obviously with a little care and attention these have come to light. I'd better edit my description to reflect your findings. Again, thanks. :)

Update:

Well, I actually played this game for just another 5 to 10 minutes and found out that it really isn't that bad as a game at all. I tried to play it correctly. As a tip to laptop users, just light taps on the touchpad work remarkably well in controlling the direction of the car. When I pressed too hard there was almost no control. Just light movements do it. And left touchpad button is good for the gas. Let up on that just a bit in taking corners and you stay right where you want to be.
So if you want a simple game just to have a little fun. THis is it.

............................Moderator Comment..............................

I found the same when I started using the mouse. Unfortunately for me I have a whole shelve full of really good and entetaining racing games, plus a shed load more on Steam, so it wasn't for me. That said I'm really glad some community members are enjoying the game.

I was prepared to not like this from some of the comments. It's one of those stand alone games so what the heck. However, it is actually fun. Didn't read what controlled what. Just poked at my touchpad on my laptop and off I went. It was kind of funny. I was all over the place. Crashed into the wall and started going the wrong way. Laughing at the warning that flashed "WRONG WAY" WRONG WAY".

I was hoping to run head on into other cars. Who cared. I didn't for some reason.

Then I poked at the space bar to see if it did anything and on came the brakes. The way I drive knowing where the brakes are is a good thing.

Anyway , all this means, is that I had fun playing. Is it a great game. No.
Games are supposed to amuse us. This amused me.

Also, thanks as always, for the fine job you do Whiterabbit.

It is not simulator, it is funny toy to relax some minutes a day between work with no need for improving skills. Does not eat your life.
Works on netbook, can be easily controlled by touchpad. Not easy by keyboard but 10 years ago ALL racing games were controlled the same way, nobody blamed that games.
No need to install, just expand the zip.
Bravo Fly Games!

Try updating your DX drivers and your other graphics drivers. Check out some of the alternatives I've linked to, eg sky track, star racing or extreme racing (wwhere you're chased by the police if you crash into other cars or run pedestrians down. (A very loose adaptation of the GTA series but with better graphics than the first two Grand Theft auto.

Sigh. Yet again, Fly Games' failure of a DRM shows up. I wish they would stop putting "DRM" in the Giveaway versions as it's such a nuisance. Anyone with the slightest idea of process management knows how to defeat it. My message to the developer is to work on the DRM part more, so at least they have some chance of preventing people from easily circumventing the DRM.

(BTW, I got a memory access violation, so I probably won't play it today. I tried the previous version and it took forever to load, and was quite repetitive. I should hack it so I can drive through buildings :))

The game downloaded and installed fine on my XP sp3 system and it is playable but it is just not a well put together game. The cars are hard to control and the physics of the game are lame. Maybe if I took the time to get more accustomed to the controls, I might do better but I don't see the point when it is still a poor game in the end. :(

:!: For st PC Gamelover and anyone else who may not be aware, Whiterabbit is not an owner or employee here on this site. He is not paid for his work. He is just a member like the rest of us. Here is one thumbs down comment:

I am sorry but this game is not very good. Played Championship and while playing, the graphics were pretty bad(No, i don't think it was my computer), somehow the opponents are very aggressive(almost as if they don't care if they lose) which is not very realistic. So after 3-4 laps I was in first, then I found out(in a small area in the corner) that there are 4 more laps to go! I said no thanks and exited the game.

Well there are a couple of positives:
- Installed and Activated Great
- No need to uninstall just delete the folder :)
- And it runs with no CRASH!!! haha get it? Crash? This game is about cars... ha..

..................Moderator Comment..................

That's a good point about the opponents being aggressive. I was forced off the road a few tmes and there were pile ups several times while play testing the game. Never seen the like in a game before.

The review gives you a 67% thumbs down at this time. Only 9 comments. Read them and only 1 seems to be down. Downloaded with no problem and activated. I have to use a different drive than C because that drive holds very little and is very old.
This is the first time in months I have been able to download one of your programs without a hitch or being getting an error. Would have loved to have some of the other games. Wanted to let you know that I enjoy this site. I am always reccomending you to others. Keep up the good work.

Something makes me wonder how much Whiterabbit-uk is being paid by Gametop.

..................Moderator Comment.................

I wish...... I wouldn't bother posting links to Gametop if I knew we had the same crowd visiting every week; but there are always new community members, some of which will not have heard of Gametop, so I continue to post links to those games, especially when I think some of them are better than the days game giveaway. By the way, besides the hald hour or so i spent throwing together a basic review last night, I've spent the last four hours voluntarily getting today's review completed (capturing images, editing them and uploading was included in the time). {8a.m. GMT to 12 noon}). sometimes i can spend as much as 6 hours writing a review, depending upon whether its a repeat or not.

I've only played the Single Race so far but I like it. Instals and runs on Vista!!! NOte the readme, you have to Activate BEFORE Instal.
Difference between this and many other race games is that you can choose any car/track/driver without having to complete and win any races.
Also you can choose number of opponents so if you want you can just race against one car to get to know the game.
Controls are the Arrow Keys with Space as a handbrake. You appear to be able to hit the barrier as many times as you like without ending up with a write-off!

Probably too easy for the serious race player but a pleasant way to pass the time for inexperienced players like myself.

.....................Moderator comment....................

That's true. It's rare that arcade games start with all the tracks and vehicles unlocked right from the beginning. I'm too spoilt with all the latest racing games to appreciate a game such as this. I try not to be biased in my conclusions, but after playing Dirt 2 yesterday and several other racing games, this game is like a badly put together game, with too many negatives for me to bother playing it again. that said; if you don't own any, or only a few racing games, this should be playable; especially if you use the mouse. It may be possible to play the game with a proper racing wheel as well, but I can no longer use my old wheel on my computer, so its not possible to test it.

I can't activate the programs, because failed to connect. Can anyone send good installation file or activate code? Thanks,

Hungarian User

....................Moderator comment...................

Unfortunately complying with your request would break the licence and giveaway rules, so it's not possible. however, try clearing out your internet cache, especially the cookies. These can often cause such problems as you describe, though it may be something else. alo try rebooting your modem and if you have one your router. finally, make sure your security measures aren't blocking the activation procedure. (You could temporarily turn off your firewall till you've activated the game). That said I do think some of the free alternatives I've linked to are much easier to play than this game.

Do you know, Whiterabbit, how valuable the service you provide is?
I can't be alone in finding I wait for your review and synopsis before downloading any games!!!!

By the way, I downloaded a game early last year, which I then didn't play, until I read (quite a few times) that you thought it excellent... Jets'N'Guns gold. It's brilliant, I've been hooked for weeks now, and have finally got through the level where you have to manoeuvre the plane through the 'gates'. Although not a lover of shoot 'em up games generally, I'd say this is one of the best games ever made. Hopefully it will make a return on here.

So while I'm waiting.
Thanks Whiterabbit, keep up the good work.
Thanks GGOTD, you have provided me with 1000's of hours of entertainment, long may it continue.

Thank you mike. As for Jets 'n' guns, it's one of my favorite arcade shooter of that particualar genre. Very different from the run of the mill side scrolling shooters around.

Race: Lost Roads

The download is 28.2Mb in size expanding to 45.8Mb when installed. The unpacked file contains a readme, a separate activation module and a setup file. The game should install to C:Games\Race, however if you haven’t cleaned out your cookies, it might try to install to last weeks location. The game was given away about 2 years ago. You can see the comments from that period by following the link below(thanks Violet for reminding me):

http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/race-of-the-lost-roads/

PicDepict.com

Introduction:

Try yourself as a GT class racing cars pilot. 17 most famous courses of the world are waiting for you! The morning half-hour WarmUp is finished, and while Formula I racers are preparing to the main start, "special events" are held on the track. In Italy it's "Renault-Spiders", and in Austria it's "Porsche" bolids. Realistic physics of this free racing lets you feel nuances of driving in various weather conditions. After driving cars is mastered you may take the risk and try your professionalism and guts in a championship, where a minor fault causes flying out off the track and loosing precious seconds and victory. Download free "Lost Roads Races" and receive an ocean of adrenalin!

Reference: http://fly-games.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=36&Itemid=30 accessed 29th Jan 10

The Game:

There are two modes of play to choose from; 'Single Race' and 'Championship'. The main difference between the two modes is that everything is unlocked for the single race mode, whereas in championship mode you have to work through all 17 race tracks in a particular order. You can select which race track to eace next.

PicDepict.com

PicDepict.com

PicDepict.com

There are six drivers to choose from and 10 different racing teams, each of which uses a different model of classic racing car. I couldn’t detect any difference in how each vehicle responded during a race, however I only tried a few races. Hopper, who posted later in the day has found that each car does have different attributes (thanks hopper). Different speeds and even differences in braking. If you are playing the 'Single Race' mode you can then select one of the 17 different race tracks from around the world, such as 'Suzuka' in Japan, 'Hokkenheim' in Germany, 'Silverstone' in England, 'Montreal' in Canada or 'Indianapolis' in the USA.. Each track map shows the bends that are often named after famous race drivers, plus they also show the world record speeds along each stage of the race track; however, these do not impact on the game.

PicDepict.com

Once you’ve selected your team and driver you can select the number of drivers you want in the race, there are four choices, 1, 2, 4 and 6. Choosing 1 will enable you to familiarize yourself with the race track. Selecting 'Single Race' gives you two laps to race whereas selecting Championship mode means you have to race 8 circuits for each race. Unfortunately a few of the menus are in Russian so I can’t give full details of the set up procedures. Apart from the number of cars you select in the race there are three other choices, but as these are in Russian. (I tried using Google’s translator, but I don’t have the Russian alphabet installed, so it didn’t work.)

The controls are keyboard, but you can use the mouse to steer. (See the conclusion for further discussion on this subject).

Conclusion:

The overall look of the game is rather dated considering it was made in 2008, but that said, it’s still a decent looking arcade racer. Unfortunately what spoils the game for me is keyboard controls which are appallingly bad. Trying to turn corners is a bit of a hit or miss affair and if you crash against some of the barriers it it's almost impossible to return to the race track . That said, I found I was able to complete races reasonably well by using the mouse to turn the vehicle left or right.

There wasn’t much difference between the look of any of the race tracks available. Basically driving around once race track looked much the same as any of the other race tracks apart from the different layouts. If the locations had been reflected by the environments you expect to see at each of these locations, the game would have been a little more interesting for me as I love racing games and enjoy the scenery that usually comes as part of the game (Fuel a open world racing game I bought last year has some amazing scenery). Sadly I think this is a poor excuse for an arcade racer. Most of the ones I’ve linked to below are easier to play and in some cases much better and a lot more enjoyable to play, (IMO).

Note to the developer:

You really need to improve the keys related to movement as well as the camera views as I found there wasn’t much difference between most of the camera angles. The graphics need updating and the menus need to be corrected so that there isn’t any bilingual sections.

In all honesty I can’t give this more than a 4.5 for game play, graphics and entertainment value; (though I'm sure some will enjoy the game). If each of the races had felt different with respect to environment, or the cars had responded differently; I reckon it would improve the game significantly. As it stands at the moment though, I don’t think its worth any money and should be given away as freeware rather than being sold.
