In this day and age, keyboard-controlled vehicle racing/driving games are ridiculous. Might as well invent a joystick-operated word processing app.

I have a lastest-tech gaming machine (Core 2 Duo E6700) and I had absolutely no problem with the game being too fast... The game was at the right speed, maybe some other people did not have a right setup.

My computer has 7.1 surround sound and I thought it was pretty neat that surround actually works in this little game. The car crashes happening behind me I could hear on the rear speakers.

That being said, I agree that the simplistic controls could have been better. However, for those with joypads that can be remapped to keystrokes (i.e. Logitech Wingman Rumblepad) that could be worked around.

All in all, it's a fairly good addition to the free games collection.

Well it was quite dissapointing but i think it cuold be alot better if u could have a view from the drivers seat and make the cars a bit more controllable.

What everyone else said. Graphics are OK. Controls remind me of a really old (or cheap) R/C car before proportional controls. Throttle is full on or nothing. Steering is either full left, full right, or center. It *can* be played, but it would be nice to see proportional control via analog joystick or even mouse.

Very straightforward install & activation. Not the slickest racing game I've played, but for the price, definately not bad at all. Would have liked more car selections from the start as well as the ability to select from different race tracks. The sounds effects were quite effective.

OK, before anyone comes down on me, I upgraded my graphics driver and now all's right with the world. As a casual gamer, I find this to be a fine race game. The graphics look good to me and the movement is smooth. Yes, the controls take some getting used to, but don't they always? The 3D perspective makes this game easier to maneuver than Little Cars. At least this way right & left are always YOUR right & left respectively. Y'know what I'm sayin'? Thanx again, again, GGAOTD for a good game and for the easy one-step setup.

Easiest intall ever, but the game won't run. "Error: Could not find any compatible direct 3D devices". That's a new one on me. "Little Cars" works fine. I guess that's 2D? Too bad, I was really looking forward to trying this despite negative comments. Thanx anyway, GGAOTD.

This game is great. I have a 3.0 gz dual core intel and 2 gigs of RAM. As of keyboard only input, I am playing with my gamepad without a problem. The Pad is a fully configurable Saitek p2600 rumble, so I just configure the keys on the keyboard to any key on the gamepad. I have lots of fun and learning to drive takes practice which is a good thing. If it was easy then it wouldn't be as much fun.

As for requests I would love to get Alien Shooter. The first time I saw it was when I was looking at one of your offers and it was listed as another game from the publisher. I don't remember which game was the one you were offering.

I downloaded its demo, but it was time limited which is really the worse way to demo a game. There's even a sequel called Theseus.

Please, Please, Please!

looked promising but ends up disappointing.only thing good is the sound and wide variety of cars to choose. the graphics is of 90's. the steering is impossible. even if you manage to steer it it is very difficult to follow the road. it is not well marked. and ever time you get over the road or crash to some tree you have to restore your car. even though there are many cars to choose from they are all the same when you drive them. if you have played Need for Speed-underground or even have a friend who played it, this game is not for you or me. but keep up the excellent work GOTD.

Intrigued by WhiteRabbit's comments regarding getting used to the controls and especially #50 Joshua's comments that this is 'easy', decided to try again as it's still not uninstalled. One thing about Joshua's comment though, he mentions "the mouse works fine", but the mouse is only used for changing options and selecting a car. Actual game play is all keyboard.

OK, here's the deal. I was literally all over as well as off the road with the Beemer and Mars cars upon each attempt. Persisted and finished, and there it was: "You Have Won!" Pretty ridiculous as in the course of "winning" each race I crashed into a house, took out a truck on the side of the road, and twice went 1/3 the way up the side of a mountain. All of these required hitting the "R" reset key to get the car back on the road to continue. Yet still I "won"? LMAO!

Additionally I did not beat the computer-controlled opponents, who all stayed on the road. How is it that a player can "win" if opponents were not beaten? Apparently there's no need to actually beat opponents, only have to finish each race by completing laps and crossing the checkered flag to "win", no matter how convoluted it is while getting there.

It looks like the developer knows this game has control response problems, otherwise why put that big gray box on the screen after opening each player profile, the one that tells players how to get the car back on the road with "R" to reset. Better they should fix the problem with controls rather than add such a message and making it a joke to "win" races.

Re: #48 Nag: Gee, a WoW nerd. :) Can't speak for others but I am typing this at the usual 100 wpm so doubt manual dexterity is the problem. ;) BTW, watch out for those programmable macro keyboards on Wow, even though they are advertised specifically for that game. Those keyboards have gotten a few can't-type-to-save-their-lives WoW members banned when their macros worked so well it appeared to the servers that bots were being used.

the camera viewas are a unconfortable, it seems like you are in a helicopter above your vehicle

if you are tired of playing the real game u can tweak it so that you don't have to play the game for getting al the cars. go to explorer -> map where you have installed the game -> Data -> Profiles -> slot1. open this wiht "wordpad". scroll down until you see "beemer" and "mars" (that are the cars that i have) copy this text
Cylinder
Power
Lightning
Rage
Storm
Monster
Bullet
Cruiser
Thunder
Devil

and paste it under "mars" and above "end"

where's ctrl-alt-delete when you need it! Unplayable, I couldn't even get around on the screens much less get into the game. Once I did it reacted slowly and overly like it was disconnected from the keyboard and then all of a sudden caught up.

I haven't had much trouble with anything else that I've tried but pay attn to remarks on this one - if you don't have trouble you're one of the rare ones.

Runs fine on my computer :) Controls are easy and the mouse works fine. I really don't know what's wrong with the other computers. Oh, and nah, their computers aren't too fast. I've got a computer with a 3ghz processor with a 7900GS graphics card.
Really, the game's quite simple and quite fun to play actually. It isn't very challenging, but that doesn't really matter. It's a fun way to kill time :)
It's also a good game to play if you want to feel good about yourself, because it's practically impossible to lose in this game ;)

Nice looking game. It is a bit hard to control, a joystick option should be included in this day and age(if I bought this and there was no joystick option I would ask for a refund....it's not that hard to program for a joystick!).

For free this is a nice diversion, although you do get 'reset' a lot cuz it is hard to control.

Once I got stuck vertical on the side of a mountain. I could reverse, turn, or go forward. Plus the game wouldn't reset me!
I don't know if this is a bug or what...anyone else experience that?

Well, if you have ever used arrows to play an action game, you can figure this out. Not only are the graphics great for a free racer, but it is fun to play. BTW I play World of Warcraft regulary - you noobs that can't play because you have no manual dexterity should not leave comments about the game quality. Thanks GGOTD!

I haven't downloaded the game but even the screen shots look terrible. If you want a good game get TrackMania. It has very impressive graphics but on lower setting it can run on even older machines. The physics engine is amazing. It has great multi player and supports joysticks and steering wheels. And best of all its free!!!! here is a screen shot taken in game:

There are plenty of good free games, you guys should give them a try Here is a pretty comprehensive list:

Great game for free! I don't know what these people are doing to their computers, but I installed it and it runs great! Controlability was an issue, but like ANY game, you have to practice...duh! Runs perfect on my SLI-enabled, water-cooled, megamonster PC. Also, like a lot of games these days, perhaps you have to PLAY a bit to UNLOCK other cars and tracks...I'll have to keep playing to find out. Great Job GGOTD! Thanks for the free stuff EVERY DAY!

P.S. people, please...quit crying over something you don't have to pay for.

Games downloaded and installed with no problems. I am running a 2.2 pentium with 1 gig of memory and the onboard graphics. I had to go into options and lower the graphics a bit as it was some clunky movement. Once done, the game ran fine. If the game doesn't run for you and you have a faster chip than I do, then I suggest you look to see if your system is running any other programs.
The game has nice graphics with buildings and trees
You can even see the suns reflections off of the car as you drive it.
The problem that I had was you couldn't adjust the sensitivity of the driving. It takes quite a while to get the feel for driving the car without running off of the road. Remember though, I'm old with slow reflexes.
I give this game
***** for the graphics
*** for playability.
Give it a try,its worth the download time.

This one and the last one have jerky graphics for me. I could play the "shoot 'em down" game after a fashion but this game moves too fast. I guess I need to update my graphics card after all. I'll keep it just in case I find a bargin on a Gforce card with 3D. Anyone know where I can get one? :)

P.S. I like simple racing and flying games. Who needs all that garage stuff? Just put the car on the track and I'll "drive it like I stole it!"

Although I agree with Game Seekers and other comments about the lack of an option to use a steering wheel or game pad; I had no problems playing this game. My steering wheel has been stashed in the garage under a pile of rubbish since before my accident 18 months ago. Now I'm unable to retrieve it so I've been playing all my racing games using the key board so am used to it. With a little practice it's relatively easy to control your car and I won without any problems playing on easy, which I set the game to because of the comments I'd read above. For an arcade game it's graphically pretty good and the selection of race tracks looks very interesting. You can even select to race going the other way around all the race tracks which effectively gives you twice the number of tracks to play with. I think it's much better than micro cars and micro cars 2 which were giveaways quite some time ago and in my opinion are similar to this game, but not as nice looking.

There are two free games (but not freeware) available from game top that are similar to this genre. the first is called Mad Truckers and can be downloaded from:

http://www.gametop.com/download_free_arcade/games_mad_truckers.html

and another called KGB Hunter from the following address:

http://www.gametop.com/download_free_shooting/games_kgb_hunter.html

I've copied and pasted directly what the blurb said about KGB Hunter......Fast car, heavy weapons and angry KGB agents around you - is all you need to feel yourself the Real Hunter on Wheels and have the greatest fun in you life.

Your carrier includes 15 secret missions. Save the world from KGB threat, fight with crowds of deadly armed agents, number of mini-bosses and KGB General aka Big Boss on roads of Europe, USSR, in deserts of Caucasus, and snows of Siberia and Alaska. These roads full of civilians, money, weapons and KGB agents. You must be brave and fast.

And the blurb for Mad Truckers is as follows......Our hero is a clerk in one of major New York companies; he’s extremely depressed by everyday routine. No wonder that when he gets a truck and a small cargo transport business as an inheritance from his uncle, he decides to change all his life dramatically and departs to the center of the country.

Upon arrival, he finds out that in the small town where he's about to carry on his uncle’s business there is another shipping company owned by a very unpleasant guy. All local shippers have been forced to sell their businesses to that person at a very low cost, only your uncle’s firm remains independent. You have rejected his offer, thus you understand that there will be no easy life for you from this moment, but this fact encourages you even more.

Try to raise your business and survive in this cruel world of trucking industry!

I say they aren’t freeware because apparently you still have to pay for these from some gaming sites. The downside to getting these games free is you get a nag screen at the end of the game when you close it down. If you're connected to the internet it will open to the game tops home page which gives details of quite a few other games which you may be interested in. I've had no problems with this nag screen. You just have to press x and it's closed. It doesn't affect game play and only activates when you close the game down.

The car was impossible to control. If I held down the acceleration, the car would zoom full speed. If I tapped it, the car would lurch then stop.
I think it will work better if the right/left controls are less sensitive - so that when you're going full speed, a tap on the right/left button won't instantly give you a 90 degree turn.
