I've contacted Toomky games and asked if they can get the fixed version from the developer, then allow the giveaway team to give the game away again.

If I receive a reply from them I will let the community know about it.

I really like this game and would like to play it. Any chance we can get a repeat offer without the bug?
Thank you!

I just hit the same showstopper blank screen myself. And the music plays on... and on...

Unfortunately, this game turned out to be a sad reality for a game breaking bug - I was enjoying it so much and then that stuff happened with the blank screen. I'm not sure why a game would be given away like this but I think that Toomky Games should be contacted by the community and see if they can get an updated build and make it right for us loyal supporters of the Giveaway project. This was the first time I've experienced a buggy game like this and it's not exactly giving this game a good impression. Just my two cents worth.

sailorbear510 aka Jason,

Lets hope TooMky Games keeps an eye on these comments. I would assume they are in contact with the developer so would want the latest version.

This is apparently a free-trial game. If you like this game (and I do!) you might try downloading from Toomky Games.

DCBoy,

It was a full version on the day of the giveaway. Once the 24 hour giveaway period has ended, which this one did Monday morning at 9am UK time 4am Eastern time, it reverts to a demo.

Unfortunately this version, as already reported by several community members, does have a game breaking bug part way through the game.

Hopefully Toomky games will get the fixed version from the developer once they are aware of the issue?

Whiterabbit-uk, Toomky game has the same issue.

I have the same problem as everyone else - black screen after the labyrinth.

Maybe we can get the fixed version too?

Has anyone tried to download from Toomky directly?

SaNad,

Hi SadNad, Thank you for your kind words.

I don't personally give away any of these games. I'm just a volunteer who moderates and posts r3views of the games (when I'm up to it). I do occasionally give away Steam keys when I have spares from the many indie bundles I've purchased over the years. But it's been a while since I offered any here.

Hi,
I am not happy at all. This game is bugged. It gave a black screen at the catacombs and although I tried running another profile, all I got was a black screen. Tried yet another profile, still a black screen.
Not happy. Uninstalled.

s unusual for GGoTD to give away a game which has bugs. I hope that the FIXED version of this game is given away soon. I suspect that if Whiterabbit wasn't struck dowen by CoVid, he would have played enough of this game to have found the bug and informed Head Office. :) But instead, we've got a broken game. I note from the game's .INI files that this seems to be another "Wonderland" job (which might explain the bug LOL!), and it is also (possibly?) a port from an Android game.

Anyway, Stephen is always asking us for comments about the games being given away, so from the (obviously limited!) amount of the game that I was able to play, here goes. I'll just add "be careful what you wish for" LOL!

First, I hate having Journal entries which are a 'play' button: that's just annoying. The whole point of a Journal entry is that it's a quick, written reminder of something, not a means to replay an entire cut scene. Black mark number one.

Second, unless the rest of the game is any different, this is my 'pet hate' type of HOG: the sort where you have to find five or six 'parts' of something using their outlines. Does anyone actually enjoy doing that? Isn't the whole idea of a HOG that you get, as it were, a 'shopping list' of items to find within a scene? I'm fairly sure the 'silhouette' concept was devised to reduce the amount of translation/localisation and thus the number of 'faulty' translations. I can handle maybe one or two 'silhouette' locations in a HOG, but not the entire game being a 'silhouette' game. Unfortunately it's not possible to determine which type this game is, thanks to the bug, but I suspect it's the latter, so black mark number two.

It's not all bad news, though. I like the idea of being able to customise modes; and although the 'photos' do unfortunately look like Eastern Europeans dressed up in period costumes, it's nice that they made the effort, rather than using drawings. The graphics look good too, and in general the game has pretty high production values. I can't comment on the music because that's always the first thing I switch off, in ANY game. :)

Hopefully we will 'get' the fixed version of this game soon. And hopefully it's not a completely 'silhouette' game. :D

First, of course, WR heal quick and sending you hugs. Second, the well-documented "black screen bug" puts me off downloaded this much-anticipated HOG; so disappointed. Especially hearing that the bug was fixed on the Steam version, but this one apparently not.

Whiterabbit-uk: in Feb 2020 just before the US went into lockdown, my apartment manager, sick with COVID, inspected my apartment and left a calling card. A touched doorknob here, a touched something there and voila, I caught it. Mine immediately turned into pneumonia; I didn't know what was wrong with me, just that I felt like crap. My temperature shot up to 107°F, I had chills, slept a lot (strong fatigue), coughed so much and so hard (I'm a non-smoker) I saw stars and was dry heaving, felt like I was drowning (I was) and aches and pains everywhere. Thought I would die. My savior was Musinex for high blood pressure folks like me. It took 3 agonizing weeks to get over COVID. Today, I have long hauler COVID: fatigue, hair falling out, lost 2 teeth that just fell out of my mouth, scar tissue in my lungs, chills on occasion and a general feeling of malaise. I don't play games with this virus. I stay home only going out when I have to and then I mask up and sanitize. I hope you recuperate quickly and don't have the long hauler symptoms I do. We're entering another horrific outbreak here. Our entire nation has this new variant rampantly spreading.

Deborah1962, I am so sorry to hear that you have a nasty/stupid apartment manager. Your symptoms sound horrible, I pray they find a cure and people smarten up.
Here in Canada most restrictions have been lifted while the health care system is collapsing :-( Few people are wearing masks and big festivals are back :-( The only positive thing that I see are the pictures from NASA.

Everything was going great until you exit the labyrinth leaving the 2nd location. There is a video scene that ends in blackness. Then nothing happens. It never ends and the skip button doesn't 'skip' out of it either. The guide shows that you exit at the third location. I'm stuck. It did the exact same thing on my desktop PC and my laptop.

Any ideas?

I found this on the Steam forum. It says that there was a bug and they created a new build to fix it. If it's been fixed, why would they 'give away' the bugged one?

I got through the labyrinth and the game froze to a black screen with the word skip in the lower right hand corner. Clicking on it did nothing. Quit the game, created a new profile, goes straight to frozen screen. Uninstalled, rebooted machine, reinstalled, created another new profile, goes straight to frozen screen. Any suggestions of what else to do?

At the Steam community links you posted, it's a known bug that they supposedly fixed back in November 2021. The giveaway must be the unpatched version.

The game stalls out on a black screen after leaving the catacombs and the skip button does nothing. Had to use task manager to exit. Uninstalling the game. Windows 10 20H2.

After I get through the labyrinth and get to the yard where the bats fly at me the screen goes black .
The option to skip the scene is on the bottom right but clicking on it does nothing , you are stuck in a black screen .
I had to use task manager to get out .

Was playing this and enjoying the game. It has some unique elements . Unfortunately, I encountered the same error mentioned in some of the Steam discussions. A little way into the game you have to find your way through a maze. When you come out the other side there is a cut scene, but the screen goes black. There is a skip option in the bottom corner, but it doesn't do anything. I exited the game and started again, but it took me right to the same place with no way to continue. There is a comment in the forum from the developer that it was a bug they fixed, but evidently not in this copy.

Today's game is beautiful and is a nice challenge for a hidden object game. It's such as challenge that the tutorial is an absolute must. It's never been given away before and it looks like to be a product of Telltale games.

I'm not one for cutscenes but there was something about the game that intrigued me.

This game is very unique to other hidden object games that are out there. You can actually set a custom difficulty for yourself if you feel you can play the game without the hints , assists and so forth. Something I have not seen in a game of this type before.

It's also a collectors edition and I would imagine that only in this kind of game the developers added all those options. Although..... I don't know if a standard version is out there to compare the two functionality wise.

The scenes may pose a challenge to those on a laptop if your laptop screen is not propped up to the right angle. Especially in the beginning for the game where you have to place the crests in some kind of circular object. It was hard to find them.

I experienced some mouse lag on today's game even when turning off the custom cursor. Not sure why that was as many games I've played did not have this problem.

Anyhow I highly suggest playing this.

I'm just about fully recovered from Covid now, but still pretty weak. I've not felt like playing any games for weeks now (still not checked out most of the games I purchased in the Steam sale yet) and still feel too tired to bother, so I've just collected together some video links etc and a few images for you.

Today's game has never been given away.

You can see Steam community reviews of the game HERE; plus, some discussions and images on the Steam discussion page HERE.

You can also see some videos of game play (SPOILERS)HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE.
