Please only post comments about today's game giveaway; other comments either inappropriate, or not about today's game will be deleted at the moderator or administrators discretion; however a little light banter among community members and with the moderator to keep this a friendly place to visit is acceptable and welcomed. Suggestions:

Whether you like or dislike Paradise Beach please give some feedback about your opinion of today's giveaway, for example, what you liked or disliked about the game, and how it could be improved from your point of view. If you don't like this genre at all, please explain why. Would certain improvements change your opinion? There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality? Giving such feedback instead of saying nothing or just saying this game is rubbish or or one word positive comments may bring more developers to the site, which could mean more and better games. Would YOU give away thousands of copies of a game (or extra content for a game) to a community that complains all the time instead of giving useful feedback? At the very least it need only take a few moments of your time. This site could be transformed if only the community would be more forthcoming in their opinions of the games they are getting for free instead of complaining about the way this site has changed or that they don't like Steam games. If something isn't for you then move on to the next giveaway, or check out the extra's section at the end of this review; you never know, you may find something that interests you

If you miss today's game giveaway you can always get the game via MyPlayCity 24/7 HERE. The second in the series is available free HERE, please be aware that the site you can get the second one from also has the potential to install toolbars, change your home page or provider and does open your browser to their home page whenever you play the game then close it down.

Installation:

Paradise Beach downloads to a 106 MB zip file that unzips to three files, (a setup.gcd security wrapper, the set up file and a read me). Those with multiple hard drives are able to save games on any drive they wish. The newly installed game is 110 MB in size. The game installs to the following path by default, but can be changed by the user if you prefer:

C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPlayCity.com\Paradise Beach

Four shortcuts are installed to the desktop, three of which can be safely deleted (Play Online Games, MyPlayCity Games and shortcuts to a free online game which vary each week). Also, if you don't like icons installed to the quick launch task bar, make sure you uncheck the box when the additional tasks window appears (after the Select Start Menu Folder window)

The Game:

Paradise Beach was developed by Astargames. In this building simulation you can get along without sunburn and expensive cocktails, but it certainly has its own catch. In a niche setting represented by popular titles such as Coconut Queen it is hard to stand out, but Paradise Beach does not have to dread any comparison.

As an up-and-coming manager it is your task to create beautiful and entertaining beach resorts on various islands. Supported by Mr. Gates and his granddaughter Emmy, the player will learn what it takes to design sites of relaxation and fun, where people can really experience their dream holiday. While the game omits the usual materials, you will have to keep an eye both on your account balance and how much energy is left for new facilities.

By building and upgrading ice cream stands, showers, cafés, and spas; planting more than a dozen sorts of trees and flowers; or adding sand castles, statues and fountains, you create beach resorts that’s as close to the visitors expectations as possible. Except for natural obstacles, such as rocks and small ponds, you can build anywhere. This trend to not restrict the player with only a small number of building sites is very welcome, because it makes games more complex and interesting, although this more "hardcore" approach might not appeal to every casual player. However, you still have to worry about space in another context.

paradise beach 009

paradise beach 010

This mainly derives from the constant and realistic interaction between the player and the resort’s visitors. These highly demanding visitors leave trash on every empty spot if you don’t add enough trash bins to the resort, and sometimes they are drowning and you have to react quickly to save them. On other occasions mischievous vandals will try to damage your facilities, or some guests will desperately beg you to find their phone or their towel which they lost during their visit.

Some of these tasks you can pass on to your staff members as soon as you hire them. The engineer will care about broken or damaged facilities, the custodian will empty full trash bins and remove banana peels or cans, the life guard will save people from drowning, and the security guard will throw out vandals. This is where the matter of space becomes important: every staff member is only responsible for a specific area, so that it is important to arrange facilities close to each other, and to make use of the staff members’ sphere of influence effectively.

The visitors of your beach resorts are extremely picky and sensitive – each visitor is individually responsive to his personal experience that depends on a variety of factors, this being the cleanliness of the island, the vegetation, how long they have to wait at the ice cream stand, the cafe, or various other facilities and whether there are enough showers or lounge chairs. This adds a lot of depth to the game, but unfortunately Paradise Beach lacks specific statistics.

paradise beach 011

paradise beach 012

The general mood of a visitor is indicated by a green, yellow, or red emoticon in a thought-bubble above his or her head. By clicking on this thought bubble, every visitor will tell you why he currently likes or dislikes your beach resort, but even with those clues it is hard to tell what the player can change or add to make a positive difference in the visitor’s rating. Constant alerts of annoyed or drowning visitors, vandals, an account balance which is changing faster than the national debt, and securing the provision of enough energy require the player’s attention and a lot of strategic thinking.

Fortunately Paradise Beach features an untimed campaign. Ambitious players can try to finish any level in expert time, but to proceed you just have to meet all the goals of a level, the time does not matter in this respect.

The graphics are really detailed and all the holiday guests bustling around are a joy to look at, especially when the screen is dominated by green smileys. The individual interaction with the visitors creates a very exceptional experience, which cannot be compared to any other game in the casual market. While other building simulations depend strongly on fast-clicking and construction tasks, Paradise Beach introduces a new and welcome complexity, which involves individual visitors, strategic thinking in various directions and the classic elements of this genre at the same time.

paradise beach 013

paradise beach 014

Altogether Paradise Beach is a must-have for building simulation fans who are longing for a real challenge, while it is probably a no-go for people who prefer less complex games where it is not absolutely vague what you have to do to proceed in the game. Besides and certainly of major importance is the fact that the game is not a simple copy of an already existing game, but rather unique enough to provide an alternative and interesting gaming experience.

Conclusion:

Paradise Beach is an engaging and challenging game. There are loads of small features that require constant attention. You'll come across unique individual visitors with a lot of demands which realistically influence their mood. Its impossible to get stuck during the campaign. Though on the negative side its rater vaague how you deal with dissatisfied customers. Some lost items are hard to find and buildings cannot be rotated.

If you liked Paradise Beach, you can get the second one in the series HERE

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank MyPlayCity for giving away Paradise Beach and also to the game giveaway team, as always, for securing other ways to get free games, in this case Steam keys.

Useful Information not related to today's game giveaway:

The problems section that used to be posted here in the Game review is now included in the Game Discussion FAQ's thread; which you can find HERE.

I've updated the games section that used to be posted with the review. The thread is now called 'Weekly round up of game deals', formerly the games section of the weekly reviews. You can find the new thread (which I've posted in the sticky section of the game discussion forums to make it easier to find if you are perusing the game discussion forums) HERE.

If today's game giveaway 'Paradise Beach' didn't appeal, you may find other games either free or for less than the price of a cup of coffee via the 'Weekly Roundup of Game Deals' thread which I've posted a link to above, or HERE.
The free game over on Origin is now Siberia II. It is a third-person puzzle-solving game. Stylistically identical to the first Syberia, Syberia II improves upon the first game by introducing more realistic character animation. The game includes a recap of the first chapter, so does not require the player to have experienced the first game.. You can get it HERE. Please note that you do require the Origin game platform to be able to download and install the game.

You will also find lots of deals over on Green Man Gaming and Big Fish Games usually have 70% off the first game you buy from them, plus they also have other deals occasionally. Desura was purchased from Bad Ju Ju games last year by One Play. If you already have a Desura account you can read details of what is happening HERE. As yet you can't access games you previously purchased via Desura (I have around 1400), but One Play are working to recover everyone's accounts and hope to do so by the end of March 2017. Indie Royale will also resume on a weekly basis, though at this time I don't know if previous Indie Royale Greenlight bundles will be honoured? Alawar, Gamehouse and Playrix entertainment have free games available (usually online versions) and other game houses such as the AAA distributors Ubisoft and Origin always have some games on sale. I've updated the Weekly roundup of game deals HERE to include a large list of other sites where you can find games on sale ( e.g. Origin, uPlay, GreenManGaming etc, as well as links to free online games and other game houses such as Alawar, Playrix and Gamehouse plus gaming news sites such as Rock Paper Shotgun and Game Seek, and included a list of free to play Massive Multiplayer games such as World of Tanks, World of Warships, Liberators and Allegiance to name a few. For more details please go to the Weekly roundup of game deals over in the game discussion sticky section HERE.

There are 828 games on sale over on Steam at the moment, with up to 91% off. Game prices range from as little as £0.15p (most of these cheap games are actually cheaper in the UK than the US, so if you are a US citizen and have a UK friend, get them to buy the game for you). There are almost 200 games and dlc less than $1 and almost 250 for less than £1. You can find all of the deals HERE.

If you spend more than $3 in the Indie Gala store you'll also get a free copy of the old school anime rpg '200% Mixed Juice' worth $6.99/£4.99There's 60% off the enhanced version of Dying Light The Following, plus there are loads more deals with excellent discounts that you'll find HERE.

The Humble Bundle site has two excellent bundles plus their monthly package that is excellent value for money. A new monthly bundle has just gone live a few days ago. There are two game bundles, the Humble Jumbo 8 bundle plus the ArmA (Armored Assault) bundle that includes all versions of ArmA plus the original Operation Flashpoint which combined with it's expansions (Red Hammer and Resistance) was renamed ArmA: Cold War Assault for the 10th anniversary of the games release back in 2011 (The game was originally released in 2001). The ArmA franchise is my favorite FPS game ever. It's nothing like the run and gun FPS game slike Call of Duty. ArmaA is a tactical FPS game with realistic tactics and the last two in the franchise also look amazing, with large islands to explore as well as eaqsily created content through the level editor, plus literally thousands of extra missions downloadable directly from the Steam workshop or from the dedicated ArmA site Armaholics. ArmA 3 is amazing, but ArmA II is also brilliant despite being almost 8 years old. The Humble store features loads of discounted games (usually Steam codes). If you subscribe to the Humble Monthly, which costs $12 a month (or less if you choose various monthly plans) you not only get a large collection of decent Steam games you will also get for the first month of the subscription The Witness (worth £29.99), which was released last year (Jan 21016). The great thing is, you can cancel at any time, so only need to receive the first bundle of games. I personally haven't bothered, but only because I usually have already purchased most of the games included in the monthly bundle. The usual savings on the games you get are around 90%, not counting the introductory offer. There's also lots of games on sale over on the Bundle Stars and Indie Game Stand (IGS).

Giveaway Team Contact and Moderation policy:

Continued from the first paragraph at the beginning of this review ........... I am posting this in light of the massive increase in negative comments not related to the game being given away, inappropriate comments and spam (Almost 700 spam comments were posted over a 24 hour period last month ) that have occurred over the past several months since the site was updated and in particular since the site started using Facebook, Twitter and Steam. This is a site that gives free games away, so it's quite shocking to see the number of negative and sometimes inappropriate comments being posted here, especially when they are not even related to the actual game that we receive. I always though getting something for free was a privilege/perk/treat/ and deserves at least some thanks or gratitude and cannot understand why we get so many negative comments that possibly turn away potential developers who would otherwise have given the project their games. Of course we have freedom of speech, but as mentioned in my review above, there are rules to posting in this comments section; even a free society requires rules and regulations to run properly, so please bear this in mind when posting a comment.

maxresdefault

paradise-beach_640x480_screenshot_1

I believe if we get lots of decent feedback about the games we get here, more developers would be happy to give away their games. Seeing lots of complaints (and spam) instead of feedback about the giveaways will not persuade other developers to give their creations away for free, especially when they may have spent thousands of hours working on the creation. So please bear this in mind when posting your comments. Any comment not about the game for example complaints, or if deemed unfriendly or inappropriate, will be deleted (usually with no explanation) or added to the spam folder, which automatically black lists the IP address you used. Although I have enjoyed responding to many of those comments in the past, I will no longer waste my time answering comments from community members who should have read the moderation policy.

Negative feedback about the games given away will always be welcomed because they can also be very constructive for developers, however, complaining about the way the site is operating or problems about downloading or installing the games or about Steam keys not received should be directed to the giveawayoftheday team via the contact form (with evidence of completed tasks, the name and email you used to enter the competition, or giveaway). I've linked to the contact form HERE; alternatively, if the problem is game related and it is late in the day (I can't moderate 24 hours a day), please also post your issue in the forums where you may get a response from the community. All games given away here have been thoroughly checked using several anti malware suites to ensure a safe download and in the 10 plus years this site has been operating, there has never been a game infected with malware. If your security software flags an issue, it's probably the Themida code that is used to protect the game from hackers or sometimes the non invasive adware that MPC games use. Themida code can also be used to hide malware, so some security software's will automatically block anything with Themida code, even if it's absolutely safe to install. also other computer configurations (i.e. the way you have your computer set up) may have blocked the install. Often, such problems are related to your computers set up. i.e. your security may block the installation (for example quite a few game giveaways I've installed have been blocked by my copy of Zemana Anti-malware suite) Also please read the moderation policy which can be found HERE and if you do have a problem please check the FAQ's thread HERE. Thank you for reading.

FREE game offer from the moderator in exchange for quality feedback:

There were some winners from last weeks game giveaways, which I mentioned in reply to their comments. Given a couple away so far, but still waiting to hear from others.

I've posted a list of over 200 Steam games in the forums HERE and will be adding more as time permits over the coming weeks. It is quite an extensive list of games taken from the 10 000+ Steam keys I've collected over the last several years; all were either purchased by me, with some )only a few) received free for pre-ordering games on Steam, plus a few from entering competitions and other offers). There will be a limited number of other keys available, such as Origin, uPlay and Desura keys (Desura has recently been purchased following the original owners demise and should be up and running by the end of March). I will announce the winner's from the giveaway the following week. If no announcement is made, it means no one posted feedback that qualified for a free game that week. There were no winners from the previous two weeks, though I am still considering a couple of comments from last week. I will inform those community members if I decide they are worth a game by email. If you have won a game, I will also post details in the thread I've created specifically for that purpose HERE. Once I've given a key away, the game and any comments by the winner will be removed from the list the following week. I will assume if you don't reply within a few weeks you aren't bothered about a key. Please post your preferences (list at least 3 games in order of preference over in the forums HERE. Thank you. Happy gaming.)

Depending on the quality of the feedback, I may choose to award games to more community members for each game given away, 'at my discretion'. The feedback must be about the game, and it must include a couple of paragraphs of feedback following the guidelines I've posted in the suggestions section of my review. i.e. your opinion of the game, what you liked and/or disliked plus suggestions for improvement. If you choose a game that is very cheap I may give you a second game; so, when choosing from the list I provide, please list more than one choice. If a game is chosen by more than one community member and only one key is available the key will go to the one I deem the most useful. I do have multiple keys for quite a lot of the games I've listed, so, don't be put off if you see someone else has chosen the game you want. I haven't indicated any of the games I have multiple keys for (though for example I do have several keys for the excellent Western themed AAA game Call of Juarez, which i picked up for free for purchasing several games via the Indie Gala store several months ago. spending a few dollars got me a copy of the game, so I made several separate purchases over a couple of days while the offer was still live.
I do own at least three community members a game from the previous giveaways that I posted several months ago. I'd totally forgotten about those. I do have a document with their names on, so they will get a game from the original list when I find the document (I'm extremely disorganized); or they can peruse the new list and choose something different. Just post a comment over in the forums in the appropriate thread. If you do post feedback with a view to getting one of the games and think you have covered the requirements, you don't have to do anything until I announce the winners the following week.
Please remember, this comments section is mainly for feedback about today's game giveaway. If you're not sure, read the moderation policy, which you can see HERE

Hey Wabbit, As you know, I am not fond of TM games. But it has a "relaxed Mode"..cool..I kept going thru this argument in my head all morning and afternoon. Then I, finally, asked myself....WWWD?(What would Wabbit do?) and I hear him say..GAME! Oh, goody! So I downloaded it. Once again, because of your review(yes, I know someone else wrote it..but you posted it.) I downloaded a game I, otherwise, would not even considered. See how good you are...

I like the fact i get to choose what i put the stuff. i like the relaxed mode part. It's cheery and it makes me home sick for Florida.

Thanks to GGOTD and MPC for the game and thanks to that Wrascally Wabbit for the review and the time you spend getting all that info together.

Huggles to you and your family.

P.S. I wrote to Humble bundle and told them about my keys. Will let you know what they say..since you have the same problem.

Nice one, let's hope Humble Bundle will be generous, but I doubt it.

Wabbit,

Well you don't know if you don't ask. I know when I got the freedom Bundle, they were able to tell what keys I had already. So maybe.

BTW thanks for the offer of a Steam key. I posted my request yesterday. I asked someone to pick out a game and that is the one I requested. The one they picked..I already have and have not played. Thanks, once again!

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

I'll email you a key once moderation has finished. hopefully the other winners will have listed their choices as well. That way i can send them all together instead of one or two at a time. I'm more likely to forget if I do it the latter way. :) As for the sound issue. I didn't have the problem, so unless it's a driver issue I'm not sure what can be done. Check to see if you need to update your drivers. you can find them via the direct X diagnostics panel which can be found via the following path: C:\Windows\System32\dxdiag.exe , or by typing dxdiag in the search field.you could check the volume controls , not the overall volume, but the ones where it gives you sliders for each application that has sound (see image below). Right click on the volume icon in the system tray and open the volume mixer. Check to see if the speaker has been disabled for the game or whether the slider is at 0 I've purposely disabled mine so that you can see what it looks like:

Ashampoo_Snap_2017.03.12_14h37m50s_003_

Also, by right clicking on the speaker icon in the sys tray, select playback devices and make sure your sound device hasn't been altered during the games installation. It's unlikely to have happened, but is still worth checking. You can see what the sound window looks like via the following image:

sound playback devices

Once the sound window is open check through the list of devices . The one that is defaulted to use will have a green circle with a tick inside it.

default device 2

Check the others to see if you recognize the one you usually use, for example I swap between a Logitech G930 head set and speakers connected to a Creative sound Blaster sound card. you can see from the image that my speakers are disabled and my head set is se tto be the default device. Right click on the one you think should be your default device and select 'Set as Default Device' . That should make sure your main sound device, whether it be speakers or a head set are the default hardware used.

Had to disable antivirus to install. This is the first time I've had to do that.

Most AV programs have a switch to disable protection for a few minutes.

Paradise Beach
Downloaded and installed well on Win10 Pro x64. A MPC game which as you know puts shortcuts on the desktop that are easily deleted..just hold the CTRL key down as you highlight them, except for the game one of course! A colorful and quite inventive game, which I played for a bit, but then turned over to my daughter as these are more her genre than mine.
Some nice elements and the ability not to play timed help this game, but the varied and not always logical order the tasks are performed in even bugged my daughter..and if I could make a suggestion to the developer it would be to give hints at a plan, maybe a 'choose to view some helpful tips' screen at the beginning would help this game immensely! Even she got turned off it after sometime, and maybe a bit too involved for her, but I'll keep it and see if it catches more of her interest later.

But for those that are into this genre they should definitely take a look and some play at this game! And it is good to see the variety varied at times, now more shooters and action games please ;)

Thank you GGAOTD and MPC for bring these games to us, and to Whiterabbit for his help breaking them down for us too.

I don't usually have any issues installing these games but this one is a mystery to me. I click setup as usual and all I get is the notice to say that the game has been activated. No installation instructions or shortcuts, or anything to suggest it has installed on my computer. I have checked all folders and cannot find it.

Hi Lynn

The games exe file is wrapped in a Themida based code that protects the game from being ripped by hackers. Trouble is, Themida can also be used to hide malware, so some security programs block the installation. To install the game you can either reboot your computer in safe mode then install, white list the wrapper or temporarily turn off your security while you install the game. The giveaway team have been giving games away virtually every weekend for the past 10 years (and for 18 months every day back in 2006 to 2008) and have never given away a game infected with malware. the giveaway team thoroughly check all files for download to ensure they are safe. They are highly regarded by the major search engines; if they allowed malware to be downloaded they would lose this standing.

I had this issue but was able to install the game once I temporarily disabled my active antivirus protection.

Lynn, You don't have to disable your antivirus necessarily. If you right click and scan the setup.exe individually, it will install normally. I've been doing this with Windows Defender on Win10 and haven't had a problem.

Hi Mike

Please read my reply to Lynn's comment, just above your comment. It's almost certainly your security that is blocking the Themida wrapper.

I used to be able to click the download button without having to share or get an email. I really liked that, and I wish you could do that instead :(

They added it in the hope that more people would join the community. Sending it to all your Facebook friends may spread the word. For those that don't use Facebook, then you get the download via email. I know it's a little more hassle, but there is a free game at the end of it.

Liked the game - not "click-happy" not timed so could enjoy at leisure. Installed no problems on Win7 Pro. But black-screened in Level 3 (I think - maybe Level 4). Restarted. Picked up exactly where left off - building the last surfboard rental shop. Then black-screened. Uninstalled. Had installed on external HDD originally so installed on onboard HDD (C:). Same as last time - picked up exactly where left off then crashed.

I have been trying and enjoying games and software from GOTD for several years. Am computer instructor and tech so know the usual fixes - not an antivirus issue, etc. This is the first time I've had this particular problem. Disappointed as I liked the game. May try cleaning it from the Registry and trying different sequence of tasks in this level but am not hopeful. Other suggestions?

Hi Elkyn

The game is quite old now, maybe try playing in compatibility mode and change the monitor resolution if you are using a new hi res monitor.

Thanks - good ideas. Will try both. Would have thought either issue would keep it from running at beginning but everyone knows that computers are so complex these days just about anything is possible! :-)

Hello,

During installation, I get the error "The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program."
I downloaded the game another time, but I get the same error.

My OS: Windows 10 x64.

Please read my answer to Lynn's comment above. It's probably the same issue.

I actually have this game via BFG; and I love both it, and it's sequel. Definitely recommend!

The game installed and runs perfectly on my windows 10. The game play is good and the tutorial is good and you can turn off the tutorial if you want to. The only thing which would help is if you could move things around when it gets a bit cluttered.
Thank you MPC for offering the game today.
