A side scrolling platformer

Introduction:

The guardian of the order accepting an anonymous call learns that a gangster group has settled in one of the abandoned buildings. Upon arrival, he meets an armed rebuff. The task is to go through 20 rooms of the building, cleaning it up to the last enemy. To eliminate enemies, the hero has 3 types of weapons, with unique properties and variation. OTA-is a 2d platformer with elements of a shooter.

Installation:

On the alert downloads to a 16.9 MB zip file that unzips to two files, (a set-up executable and a read me). The game installs to the following path by default, but can be changed if you wish. The installed game is approximately 17.3 MB in size.

Five shortcuts are installed to the desktop, four of which can be safely deleted (i.e. Falco Space - Online Game!, FalconLine Online Games Website, FalcoGo WebGL Games! and Free Games Downloads!). If you don't want to install the games shortcut to the desktop during installation, just make sure the install desktop shortcut is unchecked when the 'additional task's window appears; you will still get two of the other Falcoware shortcuts installed (i.e. FalconLine Online Games Website & FalcoGo WebGL Games shortcuts). Also, if you don't like icons installed to the quick launch task bar, make sure you also uncheck the appropriate checkbox when the 'additional task's window appears (after the Select Start Menu Folder window).

The Game:

On the Alert, developed by shark Games, is a straightforward side scrolling platformer with elements of a shooter. There are 20 levels to work through, with levels becoming increasingly complex. The usual spike traps are included and as you progress more enemies that shoot back at you appear/ The level designs are fairly basic, using the game engine Game Maker to create the levels. This is very similar to the game we were given at the end of February called Fighter of Evil.

Conclusion:

Another shovelware game that is soon to be released on Steam. I've played far better platformers over the years. Not really my favorite genre, though I do have some favorites such as Gish, Wik and the Fable of Souls and Super Meat Boy, all of which offer something different from the usual platformer fare. As a basic game its playable, and does offer some challenge to those with slower reactions and in my case to left-handers due to the non changeable key bindings. I use my left hand to operate the mouse and for movement my usual keys are the arrow keys. The AD keys used for movement left and right plus the Space jump key are badly placed for left-handers, so i won't be keeping this game. As far as game play goes I'd give this a 6 out of 10, though my own biased opinion would score it much lower. Still, its a playable game and I suggest you try it out for yourself to see if its worth keeping. At least watch the video I've linked to before you decide. :)

Problems getting the game to work:

If you're having problems installing or activating or getting On the Alert to work please visit the FAQ's Thread HERE and read through the communities comments because sometimes fixes have already been posted, for example, a common issue seen since the Themida wrapper was introduced three years ago is that some community members installation of the game are blocked by their security because Themida code has been known to hide malware, (usually an error message is flagged for example 'The executable is corrupted' even though in reality it is not); so as a precaution some anti malware programs will block and even delete the suspect installation files even though the files (i.e. the setup, read me and setup.gcd files are actually totally free from malware. This issue can be solved either by rebooting your computer in safe mode with networking or a quicker method is to temporarily turn off your security software to allow the installation. You could also try white-listing the setup.gcd file. In the almost 12 years this game giveaway site has been operating there has 'never' been a game given away that was infected with malware.
