Wunderwaffe is a top down tank shooter

Introduction:

Wunderwaffe - a game of tanks with a top down view.

The aim is to destroy all tanks in the area within a specified time. This version includes 12 single player levels and a 1 vs 1 mode that is played on the same computer. The more machines you destroy, the more points you gain. these can be spent on upgrading your tank.

Installation:

Wunderwaffe downloads to a 81.3 MB zip file that unzips to two files, (a set-up executable and a read me). The game installs to the following path by default, but can be changed if you wish. The installed game is approximately 249 MB in size.

Five shortcuts are installed to the desktop, four of which can be safely deleted (i.e. Falco Space - Online Game!, FalconLine Online Games Website, FalcoGo WebGL Games! and Free Games Downloads!). If you don't want to install the games shortcut to the desktop during installation, just make sure the install desktop shortcut is unchecked when the 'additional task's window appears; you will still get two of the other Falcoware shortcuts installed (i.e. FalconLine Online Games Website & FalcoGo WebGL Games shortcuts). Also, if you don't like icons installed to the quick launch task bar, make sure you also uncheck the appropriate checkbox when the 'additional task's window appears (after the Select Start Menu Folder window).

The Game:

Wunderwaffe looks like a decent tank game, with a mix of hand drawn graphics and assets from the game maker engine that this game was made with. It also has a popular retro feel to it. The game defaults to the Russian version of the game whenever you boot it up . With a little trial and error I found my way to the options menu, (its the second button in the bottom left hand corner of the start up screen) where you'll find a language toggle in the left hand pane below the audio controls. There are only two language options Russian and English. Not everything is translated to English, but this does not detract from the overall game play. You can change the tanks cross-hair color via the right hand pane in the options menu, and you can toggle between full and windowed mode via the middle Video panel..

Even if you had problems getting to the English version, once you get to the actual game there's no need for any language as the game is the same in both Russian and English.

The game involves driving your tank around using the WASD keys; the aim is to destroy the enemy tanks before they destroy you. The graphics are decent but I found it hard to destroy any tanks, partly due to the slow movement of the tank and having to maneuver and shoot at the same time. You can use the WASD or the ↑↓←→ keys to maneuver your tank around. The turret moves towards your mouse pointer. In the bottom right of the screen is a radar that shows you the location of the enemy tanks. On the first level there were two tanks shooting at me, and were were able to hit me easily so before I could even get out of the way I was dead over and over. Unfortunately my dexterity has suffered over the years, especially as I've broken fingers and wrists (motorcycle accidents), so my dexterity has been reduced somewhat and i find it difficult to maneuver, move the turret and shoot at the same time.

There is an upgrade shop called the Garage (Гараж), where you can increase your tanks armour, buy new tanks or increase the destructiveness of your ammunition. You earn white and red crystals; the red ones are used to buy the upgrades, but I've not figured out what the white ones are for yet. Keys are mentioned in game, but I've not played the game long enough to find one. The keys are used to open chests that may be awarded at the end of the level, but I've not been able to confirm this yet. The Steam version includes dlc packs that contain two different types of crystals . Conclusion:

I've not played the game long enough to give a fair assessment of the game. My initial foray was disastrous, with my tank being destroyed over and over with only one kill to my name. Earning crystals to upgrade your tank is a definite positive, but to earn those crystals you need to win some levels. If I get time to return to the game today, I'll update this review. Problems getting the game to work:

If you're having problems installing or activating or getting Wunderwaffe to work please visit the FAQ's Thread HERE and read through the communities comments because sometimes fixes have already been posted, for example, a common issue seen since the Themida wrapper was introduced three years ago is that some community members installation of the game are blocked by their security because Themida code has been known to hide malware, (usually an error message is flagged for example 'The executable is corrupted' even though in reality it is not); so as a precaution some anti malware programs will block and even delete the suspect installation files even though the files (i.e. the setup, read me and setup.gcd files are actually totally free from malware. This issue can be solved either by rebooting your computer in safe mode with networking or a quicker method is to temporarily turn off your security software to allow the installation. You could also try white-listing the setup.gcd file. In the almost 12 years this game giveaway site has been operating there has 'never' been a game given away that was infected with malware.
