In Brief:
Oil Paintings is another jigsaw from GameREA, similar to the Transport Puzzle we got on Monday. It's much improved on the previous jigsaw puzzles from both this developer and BD Games puzzles because it has a 7 x 7 grid with 49 rotatable pieces, making it more difficult than previous smaller jigsaws to complete in a short time. There are ten puzzles to solve.

The Game:
Oil Paintings is a 49 piece square puzzle with ten images to solve. Along the bottom of the puzzle grid are seven buttons, the first allows you to see what the image is; to cancel it press the X in the bottom left of the screen. The second and third buttons are to save and access saves, the fourth button turns music on (if it's off), the fifth button restarts the puzzle from the beginning; when this is done, all the pieces of the puzzle are shuffled and reoriented differently. The puzzle pieces are located to the right of the 7 x 7 grid. When placing pieces in the correct position they are not locked like previous jigsaw puzzles we've received from a different developer. Also, if you place a piece wrongly it does not jump back to the periphery like some of the BD Games puzzles we've had recently, you have to put them back manually. This puzzle looks more professional and is very similar to the puzzle we received yesterday about Autumn Moods and Statue Puzzles by the same developer i.e. GameREA.

There is a level map that allows you to start at whichever image you wish to solve first. When you've completed a puzzle it will automatically move onto the next puzzle in the level map or if you want to move to a new puzzle press the seventh button at the bottom of the image. Whenever you start the game from the beginning without choosing a level, it always starts with the first puzzle. When you have completed all 10 puzzles you are taken back to the main menu, where you can start again. Each restart of the puzzle you'll find all the puzzle pieces in a different location. Puzzle pieces are orientated in different ways, so you may need to turn the puzzle piece to get it to match up by right clicking on the piece.

You can also see the different mouse and keyboard commands via the second button in the main menu. To close the game use the Esc key.

Progress can supposedly be be saved via the second button, but I tried saving my progress and a completed puzzle before it moved on to the next puzzle, but both the save and the folder buttons (where saves would be saved) buttons seem to be locked. Completed puzzles will revert to unsolved once completed. When you reach and complete the last puzzle the game closes.

Conclusion:
Oil Paintings is a pleasant jigsaw puzzle game, that should take you around 10 to 20 minutes to complete each puzzle. With ten puzzle you've easily got at least three hours worth of jigsaw puzzle solving to do.

The puzzles are a variety of famous oil paintings each one labelled with the title of the painting and the artist who painted it, for example Virgin and Child with Saints Catherine of Alexandria and Barbara by Han's Memling (1480), The Annunciation by Philippe de Champaigne (1644. Unfortunately there are no contemporary artists included in the ten paintings, all were painted between 1480 to 1681.

I enjoyed completing a couple of them in the time I had to wrote this review up. For an adult, there is little challenge, but these would give a youngster some challenge, especially if they were competing with siblings to see who could complete the puzzles the quickest. Sadly, there is no high score table.

Notes on Security

I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found 1 hit (Zilliya) from 58 antimalware engines. Zillya is one of only several that often tag Falcoware games from all the others; most of which are better known and more reliable; 57 other antimalware engines found the installed game safe, so it's very likely to be a false positive.

The downloaded executable may include some low level adware that only opens your browser to Falcoware's home page after the game has installed and places four shortcuts onto your desktop (which can be safely deleted once the game has installed).

The installation does NOT inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to Falcoware's home page following the games installation, it earns Falcoware games some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away free. Once you've installed the game, there are no more browser redirections. This is because Falcoware removed their installer over a year ago (that installer would show an advert for a game and then open your browser each time you played and then closed the game down.)

You can see the results of the scan via the following link:

Lobster,

Hi Lobster, thank you for mentioning that , appreciated.

Despite actually playing a couple of the puzzles I never noticed the extra two buttons until you mentioned them, so assumed it was exactly the same as Transport puzzles.

After seeing your comment I started another puzzle, then tried to save it, but that second button doesn't work, nor is there any puzzles saved to the save folder because there isn't a save folder (maybe the save folder is only created once the save button works)? Possibly the developer is still working on this part of the game? I mentioned there were no saves in the last one the developer gave to us when there were only five buttons. The developer may have noted this and added the buttons. Lets hope a fix is found soon because being able to save your progress for each puzzle would improve this game significantly.

After trying to save a part-finished and a completed puzzle using the save button (before the completed puzzle automatically moved on to the next puzzle), I checked the three
places game saves are usually found i.e. inside the games installed folder, as well as the Documents and one of the three folders found in the hidden folder 'AppData' but couldn't find a folder related to this game, so it looks like those two buttons at this point in time are either not functional or are added to make the game look more appealing. Presently they are useless.

Whiterabbit-uk,

Steam have a sale on some decent Jigsaw puzzles at the moment that end on the 27th September. I found seven jigsaw puzzles, each 90% off the usual price, and all costing a measly £0.39/$0.50 each.
Each puzzle includes a decent selection of puzzles (the videos I watched only showed jigsaws up to 6 x 10 puzzles i.e. 100 piece jigsaws, but the slider for adjusting the number of puzzle pieces was never more than half way along it's slider, so the potential to have much larger puzzles will be much higher. If anyone purchases one of these puzzles, please do let me know the maximum size that you can create. I have the best jigsaw puzzle game I've ever seen that was given away here way back in 2008 that has so many functions it's almost dizzying, but its main draw, that has always stopped me buying more jigsaw puzzles, is that you can add an unlimited number of images to the game and place them in different categories as well as lots of different puzzle piece shapes. Basically everything these puzzles offer plus more, which is why I won't buy any.

I've tried jigsaws with over a thousand pieces on my monitor (with the Ultimate Jigsaw puzzle mentioned above), but it's impossible to see the pieces sufficiently to be able to enjoy the experience. I found anything over 500 pieces on my 24.5'' monitors were too headache inducing.
.All the jigsaws include proper jigsaw lugs that you can also adjust to different shapes.

Of the seven puzzles that are on sale for 90% five include five double pages of eight puzzles and two with 7 double pages. Depending on which ones you buy; e.g. the 1001 Jigsaw: Earth Chronicles has 56 separate puzzles i.e. 7 categories of eight puzzles , Jigsaw Boon 40 puzzles has 40 puzzle to solve i.e. 5 double pages of eight puzzles). You can save your progress on each of the puzzles.
1001 Jigsaw. Earth Chronicles - (7 double pages), 1001 Jigsaw: Earth Chronicles 3 - (7 double pages), 1001 Jigsaw. World Tour: Great America - (5 double pages), 1001 Jigsaw. Myths of ancient Greece (拼图) - (5 double pages), Alice's Jigsaw. Wonderland Chronicles - (5 double pages), Jigsaw Boom - (5 double pages), Home Sweet Home - (5 double pages).

Whiterabbit-uk,

The latest free games from Epic Games are Speed Brawl, a 2D combat-racer about moving fast and hitting hard! Maintain your momentum, build combos, and unleash powerful moves. Find your own fighting style, and assemble the best team of brawlers ever seen. Then do it all again faster. Faster. FASTER! plus Tharsis, a turn-based space strategy game. With dice. And cannibalism. It puts you in control of humanity’s first mission to Mars, just as it’s struck by a micrometeorite storm.

Fron Thursday 23rd September 4pm UK/11am EST, the next freebie will unlock called The Escapists - a unique prison sandbox experience with lots of items to craft and combine in your daring quest for freedom. Life in prison will keep you on your toes with the strict rules that you’ll have to break. The guards are out to stop any escape attempts, so you’ll have to avoid suspicious behaviour by attending roll calls, working a prison job and hiding your stolen craftables.

Indie Gala have added more games to their showcase section HERE, e.g. Crazy Space Pirate, Marvin the Hatter, Pirate Codex, DreamTime, Project Restart, A Maze In Opportunity, Mirage Online Classic, In the world unknown, Dissociation, The little witch Edwina, Hard Place and another Leisure Suit Larry adventure. All but volume 7 have now been removed from the free section, but if you grabbed them while they were still in the freebie section, you'll still find them in your Indie Gala library, where you can download DRM free copies of them.

You can usually find links to Steam and non Steam freebies via Delenn's threads over in the forums HERE (non-Steam) and HERE (Steam). (thanks for keeping these threads updated frequently Delenn, it's really appreciated by me and I'm sure other community members.

The latest Humble Choice bundle went live on the first Tuesday of the month; If you have the original subscription before it changed from the Humble Monthly to the Humble Choice bundle you get 12 games plus a DRM free arcade game called Sluggish Morss Pattern Circus and access to all the games in the Humble Trove while your subscription is live. The Humble Trove includes around 75+ titles. The DRM free titles you can download and keep forever. The other games in the Trove can be downloaded and played while your subscription is live. If you suspend a month you lose access to those games for that month. They are adding games to the Trove virtually every month. Here's just a few examples of what's included in the Trove. Race the Sun: Challenge Edition, Zodiac II, Volantia: Kingdom in the Sky, Shady Knight, 20 minute Metropolis, Keyboard Sports, When Ski Lifts Go Wrong (this is £14.99 on Steam, you get the DRM free copy, so can still play it if you suspend your subscription). Also includes Valhalla Hills (another Steam game worth £7.99, but you get the DRM free version), Broken Sword 5, Runestone Keeper, Bomber Crew, (another DRM free copy that is £14.99 on Steam), Drawkanoid (£3.99 on Steam), Actually quite a few of the games in the Trove are also on Steam, but you always get the DRM free version.

There are different subscriptions available, details of which you can find HERE.

If you subscribe, it doesn't tie you in to buy every monthly choice bundle. If you find the latest bundle isn't for you, just go to your account page and suspend that month. This has to be done for each months bundle if you don't want them before your subscription is due for that month. Apart from the amazing bargains found with these choice bundles; there is always at least one or two premium AAA games, plus several other AAA and high level indie arcade games included in each bundle.

This months bundle would set you back £211.68 (approx' $290) if you purchased all of the games and includes PGA Tour 2K21 (£49.99), Neon Abyss (£15.99), Not For Broadcast (£19.49}, RÖKI (£19.49), Narita Boy (£19.99), West of Dead (£15.49), Atomicrops (£11.39), Heaven's Vault (£19.99), Swag and Sorcery (£9.99), Fort Triumph (£15.49), Orwell: Ignorance is Strength (£7.19) and Framed Collection (£7.19). For me, just the cost of Swag & Sorcery takes care of the cost of the whole bundle (it cost me £8.72 for the bundle) so I'm very pleased with this months choice, especially as several were on my wish list. The last one I already had, so gave it to a friend.

The extra game is a weird graphic oriented game on the lines of those Amanita Design games such as Samorost 1 (free on Steam) and Samorost 2, Machinarium and Rocket man, but is much more psychedelic and wacky. (If you get the bundle make sure you turn down the volume when playing Sluggish Morss Pattern Circus as it's rather jarring in places, but fits the game.

Another DLC for the free to Play Minion Masters called Minion Masters - Mordar’s Malediction is 100% off on Steam at the moment HERE.

If you come across any games that are worth downloading, please do post details and links in Delenn's threads HERE (non-Steam) and HERE (Steam). Thank you in advance.
