Would love to try this, but always request the link via email when it's not from MyPlayCity (where I'll just get it directly if I can't just download from here), and after two requests today, have yet to receive a download link. Guess it's not imperative that I try it. Of course, it's only 99 cents on Steam, but it's the principle of the thing.

Karen, Be sure to check your e-mail's "Junk" or "Spam" folder... I've found the GGoTD e-mails with links to the games usually end up there and it's easy to miss them.

When you install this, it asks if you want a desktop shortcut. If you say no, it does not add a shortcut to the game, BUT it adds FOUR desktop shortcuts to the developer's website.
Also, every time you close the program, it launches the developer's website in your web browser.
This is just ridiculous.

David,
This has always been the case with all the free game sites you'll find on the net. Most games given away via any free games site includes low level adware and extra desktop shortcuts. . The adverts are added so that we can get the games for free. Part of the money earned from in game adverts or when your browser is redirected to the providers site is paid to the actual developers of these games. They can earn more money by allowing their games to be given away than by selling them via commercial sites like Big Fish games.
Its a small inconvenience that most people accept for getting the games for free.

David,
As Stephen said, this is very common practice for 'free' games. My personal opinion is that GGOTD games do typically have far less adware than games from many other sites which offer free games.
As you noted, the game's installer asks about a desktop shortcut only for the game being installed; the other shortcuts are installed (without the option) by the "wrapper" software which runs the game's installer, however the "bonus" shortcuts are easily deleted. As for the browser opening when the game closes, again that's part of the price, but who knows … perhaps a PC-savvy friend could even help you with that too? ;)
