The last few Toomky games have installed and run on my WinXP without a problem, but this one has gone back to throwing up the "not a valid win32 application" error. Fortunately I know the way to get around this problem and have the game running fine now. A nice addition to no. 2 in the series which I got when it was given away (and also had to get around the error problem...)

Yes, I remember Kyodai Mahjong, having bought a licence for it more than 20 years ago, was running Windows 98. A fellow in France is the author. The moving around of the board can be disabled in the options, of which are many. It works fine also on Windows 10.

No time right now to try it out, but it downloaded and installed painlessly, and I've been really pleased with all the Toomky Games offerings like this one lately. Many thanks!

It's part 1 or 3? Title it says without part, is 1 and during Installation it says 3 hmm...

it's part 3

it's ok, but plainly an old game, is in the old 4:3 format, with bars on the side to fill the empty space.

pnj, If you are looking for a Mahjong that fills up the whole screen I believe Mahjong Suite would be suitable. Sometimes SolSuite sends out emails where you can get 2 products for a certain price from their company. Beware of their upgrade policies though and keep copies of your installers and serial keys if you need to reinstall as getting technical support from their company was impossible for me. In order to install the latest version from scratch, I had to know the serial code from the version I bought in order to do the install, they are always changing their keys and so forth.

pnj, Also Kyodai Mahjongg was also a good one back in the day. It seems to have been not updated in some time and I am not sure if it works on Windows 10 or 11 - It was considered great for it's development cycle, I was first exposed to it through Real Arcade. A company called eGames actually licensed the product and rebranded it as another game in their multi game compilations. The only thing that I did not like about Kyodai was when you moved your mouse around the screen would rock back and forth. It was ok for me in my younger years but today it's kind of discomforting to my eyes.

One other thing that I omitted from my review by mistake is that I noticed that there is a sun and moon icon at the bottom left hand side of the screen that dims tiles irrelevant to the current level you are playing. It makes it easier to complete the level in a sense, but also can ruin the fun unless you really need it, you could potentially finish this game quick with it on. At the bottom right there is the shuffle button, it replenishes in time but the filter button at the left has the same countdown icon look as the shuffle button on the right. I don't know if that feature runs out or not.

I see we have another 8Floor offering again. I'm not entirely sure when this was given away before or if it was but it's a pretty decent mahjong game for a small file size. It has goals built in, like the style of some of these mobile phone games but without the nag to pay to get extra play time and so forth.
It has a couple of tile sets and they are decent. You have to switch between them to see which ones you like. The graphics on the screen are decent too and I noticed that 8Floor has appropriate borders on the screen to properly letterbox the 4x3 aspect ratio on HD monitors that support those resolution.
If you're having a laggy cursor in game, turning off the custom cursor from the main menu will help make this game more enjoyable. I've not seen any problems with custom cursors from previous games that have them but they do have the potential to lag the system depending on the graphics card you use on your system.
Should Mahjong games be your fancy you can get great deals at Legacy Games where they have Mahjong Packs, Hidden Object Games and other kinds of Solitaire / Match 3 games for cheap. Average price is about $12 to $13 for these packs but you can find physical copies at Walmart in the United States often for $9.99 in a jewel case, one of the remaining retailers that still carries physical media.
