I've really become addicted to this game. I love it. It seems to have some glitches though. Sometimes I have no ammo ball to shoot and I just have to watch the balls roll relentlessly on and I get a "failure". It only happens occasionally but it's frustrating. LOVE the game though. Thanks GGOTD and ALWAR.

This post is a little late but it is because I cannot quit playing the game. The quality is fine for me; I am not a gamer. One problem that I have is system crash--or more likely overload on my small laptop.

For the record Popcap's Peggle is based on ... er ... Peggle, an arcade machine released in 1991 by Strata. Have a google. The game is also available to play in MAME.

Anybody who thinks PopCap put out original IP is frankly either nuts or actually working for PopCap.

I think it's a nice variation of the usual 3-ball shooters. The sighting on your "target" area is certainly unique - larger, much more sensitive and doesn't lock into a specific position, like all the others (at least the ones I've played). The ball action is also very different - bigger, slower, and the bounce off other objects - all add to the unique "play". Add in the backgrounds and ball routes and it does come out as a very different game, with the advantage that you don't have a huge learning curve on how to succeed and advance in levels. So in many ways it's like getting the advantages of a new game without having to learn from square one. Finally, I felt it started off at a challenging pace, compared to most games' first levels. I was piddling along, trying to hit the target after a bounce or two, figuring the first levels were set up not to frustrate the kids and beginners and WHAMMO ... FAIL !! Better pay attention and get on with business... All-in-all, I'd give it an 8.5/10 cute graphics, good options to set (including windowed) and superb ball handling (and I'm on a laptop). Well done Alawar Games and nice pick GGOTD team! Many thanks to you both.

Actually, Karma, Peggle IS an original idea. It's people like you who have to know everything, and have a different "fact" from everyone else that make this place lame. Popcap doesn't "ripoff" anybody. Let's see you make a game on par with Peggle...

And the rest of you stop bitching about how these games are lame. If you want an amazing game, go pay full price for something by ID Software. The best things in life are not free.

I like this game--took me a bit to learn how to aim, but once that's done, I'm able to really enjoy it. I like Zuma and yes this is similar but there are differences too--so it is fun to play when I'm tired of Zuma--

Thank you GGOTD and Alwar for this game.
I come here every day, and some days I'm not interested in the game offer, but instead of bashing it as a clone or something I'm not interested in, I just mozey on and come back again the next day. One thing about life and 'people' is that we are not all alike and we don't all like the same things. That's called a difference in people/culture. You know what? That's what makes the world go around. Just because you don't like something I like, doesn't mean you should bash it because when they post something YOU like and I don't like, I won't bash you.
I WOULD like to see that Titanic given away Alwar--I love that game but haven't been able to afford to buy it--that's why I appreciate GGOTD so much!

If this game stresses your graphics card or CPU, perhaps you should look into a new computer.

Similar game? How about Luxor at zone.msn.com?

Eh.

I love the zuma/luxor style games and really looked forward to playing this one. It is fun with a different aspect/dimension to it that others I've played. The depth of the playing field is nice. My mouse is not jumpy and everything moves smoothly. The only thing I don't care for is the lag in time from when the balls make a match and when they actually are removed. Also, it takes a bit for the target color to change so you know where to shoot the next ball. Overall, I give it a 7/10.

Alawar, thank you for the awesome games you have generously given to us through GGOTD; and to the GGOTD team, thank you for continuing to offer us the opportunity to try games and software that would be cost prohibitive to many who visit your site.

For those who are having problems with poor mouse performance, try turning down the screen resolution and turning off the special effects. :) Not guaranteed to help, but it will take some work off the graphic card and cpu and may just be enought to enable your mouse to work properly.

Thanks comment #18 by Karma for the info regarding peggle not being original, I've been around since the inception of computer games and have not come across a similar game, so it would be great if you could name the game you reckon PopCap have 'ripped off'; although I wouldn't call any game a rip off, just a variation on a theme or an improvement on the original. For example, I'd much rather play any arkanoid game that was released in the last 10 years than play the original by taito, which can now be found as a freeware version. Comparing it with any of the ones I've got is like comparing a drawing made by a 5 year old to a professional with 50 years experience.

I'd be really interested in checking this original idea out. Thank you

Of course Zuma is the benchmark for all these type of games. I'd like to see a first person shooter game of this type. The balls are in a concentric circles around you and you have to shoot at and through them to score. Of course all that spinning around would make one ill but hey! That's why people go to amusement parks right?

Have you tried changing your screen resolution?

Have you checked their website in case they have instructions for wide screen?

Try going to the forums and see if anyone can help you. ;)

Good morning everyone! ;)

I love Zuma/Luxor style games and I have them all, including different versions. This game activated and installed well and unlike some today, I'm not experiencing screen flicker, or any other issues on Windows XP.

The game is fairly simple to play and so far I'm up to Level 4. Hopefully, the game will become a little more difficult, and this is where both Zuma and Luxor are both more challenging. Perhaps this is meant to be a child's version of those games?

I say that, because there's no way that a child could get through the latter two games and this would at least give them the experience of practicing their hand/eye coordination for more difficult games to come as they grow older.

The graphics are lovely and vibrant, though I'm getting a little bored with the table background all the time, albeit there are different tables all the time. Then again, that's why it's called "Magic Tea," - none of us are likely to be indulging in a cup of tea on the moon for example. ;)

I also find it odd that the music only plays at the end of each stage, rather than actually playing during the game.

I won't actually go into the game play, as WhiteRabbit has already done that :P and I hate seeing the same comments over and over again here.

I really do enjoy your games Alawar and are thrilled that you stay with us and keep offering games for us to test and buy. I am hoping that you will offer the "Mystery Case Files" games at some time! ;)

Thanks again GOTD, as always, you are my #1 stop when I log on in the mornings! It sure brings a little fun to my day.

Have a great day everyone! ;)

Suits me. Jumpy though on the playing - may improve when I sign offline and close some of the stuff running, other games do. Dare I say ... What a nice "cup of tea" for my morning! LOL I actually found some elements to be new and fun. So far my favorites in this genre though are the Chameleon and the Fruit Train one.

What a great game! It's an original take on the Luxor/Zuma type games- both of which I love. The styles of play are unique and interesting. With it's Art Nouveau/psychedelic backgrounds, obstacles out of the antiques roadshow and music from a Charile Chaplin movie, the space ships seem oddly not out of place. Thanks GOTD and ALAWAR- it's a gem!

Thank you for the free games & utilities that you provide to us. My kids wake up every morning and ask me if I've gotten the new free game of the day for them....and every now and then, I find something interesting for myself.

It's been really disappointing over the weeks to see the negative posts that show up on here - these are FREE full-version games. Not every game is for everybody, but why whine when a game isn't for you?

The whiners and complainers are going to ruin things for the rest of us...you know...the ones who are grateful (particularly in this day and age) to get something for free. Gift horses don't come along very often folks, and GGOTD has been a pretty reliable gift horse. Try saying "thank you". A little manners go a LONG WAY.

Have a nice day.
