Once upon a time there lived an Archmage who had the power over the Elements. Storms could be aroused, heavy rains could be brought and the whole nature was ruled by him. A special magical Scepter gave that power. It had 5 Magic Crystals, any of which was symbolic as they were responsible for one of each Element.

Elemental Scepter provided its owner with unlimited powers thanks to the Crystals. Such a powerful thing was desirable for many people so the Archmage of Emmerance took care of it to keep harmony on the Earth forever. But nothing lasts long. Thieves came to the magic castle to grab Elemental Scepter. Where are Magic Crystals now? Being out of control they can cause damage to the world.

In Brief
Magic Crystals is a simple match three game with colorful graphics. The usual bonuses can be found to help you along your way, and there's the usual disaster/end of the world storyline told in the intro to the game. It plays like any match three, though the shape of the tiles are hexagonal instead of square. There's no need to write up a game description as I'm sure everyone knows what a match three game plays like. There's nothing special about this game, personally, I much prefer match three games like the Montezuma series or the bubble popping match threes like Luxor/Zuma or the Match Three RPG games like Puzzle Quest and Puzzle Kingdoms. This isn't a keeper for me as I have hundreds of match three games already. Still, it's worth trying out to see what you think. Definitely worth checking out.

Installation:

Magic Crystals download to a 16.6 MB zip file that unzips to three files, (a setup.gcd security wrapper, the set-up file and a readme). Those with multiple hard drives can save games on any drive they wish. The newly installed game is 30.1 MB in size. The game installs to the following path by default, but can be changed by the user if you prefer:
C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPlayCity.com\Magic Crystals
Four shortcuts are installed to the desktop. three of which can be safely deleted (Play Online Games, MyPlayCity Games and shortcuts to a free online game which vary each week). Also, if you don't like icons installed to the quick launch task bar, make sure you uncheck the box when the additional tasks window appears (after the Select Start Menu Folder window)
Introduction:
Once upon a time there lived an archmage who had the power over the Elements. Storms could be conjured; heavy rains could be brought and the whole nature was ruled by him. A special magical Scepter gave that power. It had 5 Magic Crystals, any of which was symbolic as they were responsible for one of each Element. The elemental scepter provided its owner with unlimited powers thanks to the Crystals. Such a powerful thing was desirable to many people, so the archmage took care of it to keep harmony on the Earth forever. But nothing lasts forever. Thieves came to the magic castle to grab the elemental scepter. The castle was full of special traps but even they couldn't stop the thieves who broke into the tower the scepter was hidden in. The leader of the group saw it and touched the Scepter; once he did everything changed: The magic crystals broke away from the scepter and flew away through the tower's windows. The thieves were so frightened that they escaped at once… But what did the archmage do when he learned about the theft? What happened to the robbers? And where are the magic crystals now? Being away from the control of the archmage they could cause damage to the world. Use your skills, logic and imagination to gather Magic Runes to make the magic crystals disappear. Make chains of them to get good results and help the archmage.

I like the name 'line-3' for these better than 'match 3' (the others are usually 'swap 3' and 'click 3')

This is the plainest line-3 I think I've played. I'd much rather play any of the others I have - the Heroes of Hellas will be my choice I think.

Long chains get you nothing. Sections don't fall across - if one becomes 'dead' - there's NOTHING to do to waken it again.

If I'm keeping the mouse still for a while - give me a hint.

I really enjoy this kind of semi-mindless but fun Match 3 game. These graphics are nice and everything seems to be working okay on it. Thank you once again to GAOTD and MyPlayCity!

Hi Whiterabbit-uk: It's been awhile since I posted on here. Condolences to you for your loss. I myself suffer from mental illness (Bipolar I with Schizophrenia) so I have just been lurking and I don't people very much these days. Glad to see you are back though and even though I don't post much, I do enjoy reading your reviews about the games and in hearing about how you/your family is doing.

I love this game so, when I lost this game when I had to reformat I kept my eye out for it (had no idea it was hiding in plain sight on MyPlayCity). Glad to see it back. It's a game you can play without thinking much about it. It's basically collecting crystals that power up their abilities to help you through the game (for example the red crystals power up the fire power up). It's easily playable for those boring hot days/rainy days provided the electricity holds up. It's simple enough for kids to play but engaging enough to hold the interest (for me anyway). The graphics are colorful, the power ups are satisfying to watch. It could incorporate more side games, perhaps it could use a bit of polish and maybe a couple of decent sequels.

Thanks for the giveaway game today.

Hi Deborah, if you were born in 1962 that would make you a year younger than my favorite cousin, who is also called Deborah. I used to play a record by a duo called Tyrannosaurus Rex (later to become Marc Bolan and T Rex called DeborahhrobeD. :) Whenever I see the name of Deborah, I think of my cousin and the antics we used to get up to when we were kids and the song by Marc. :) Thanks for your condolences. Appreciate the thought. p.s. my mother was a manic depressive.

Yes, I was born in 1962 on Thanksgiving day (USA) it falls on Thanksgiving again this year. I'll be 56. My mother named me after Debbie Reynolds while my father hated the name and named me after the biblical Deborah. Manic Depressive is the same as Bipolar I. I take medication but need to have it calibrated ever so often.

This game is not installable if you don't install the Spyware "Software informer" ...

..........................................Moderator comment......................................

Hi Bernd, Software Informer is not necessary to install any game giveaway. To avoid installing Software Informer (S.I.) you click on 'Close' instead of 'install'. The game has already been installed and successfully registered before you click 'Close' or 'Install' (see image 7 and 8 where it says finish {to complete the game installation}, and 8 tells you the game has been succesfully registered). It has been bundled with the final installation window for over 8 years. As mentioned above, all you have to do to avoid installing S.I. is to click on 'Close'. {See image number 8 below).
If you click on the install button without thinking, or if you think clicking on the close button will stop the game installation, so decide to click on install to get the game (which is not necessary); it's easy enough to uninstall S.I. It only takes a few moments to delete the installation, plus all registry entries applicable to S.I.. To delete the entries, type Regedit in the search field to open the registry editor, then click on 'EDIT' then from the drop down menu select 'FIND'. This opens a small window. Type in Software Informer, then click on 'Find Next'. See images 9 to 12). If and when any hive is opened referencing S.I., delete them.
****IMPORTANT*****Please note the next paragraph before you delete anything**** IMPORTANT*******.
If you do open up the registry editor, be sure to BACK-UP your registry before you delete anything in case you do accidentaly delete a key that shouldn't be deleted. If you are unsure about deleting anything you can create executable registry keys before you delete any key by right clicking on the appropriate hive entry and select 'Export', then name the key before saving it. {be sure to save it to somewhere you can find easily. The default save position is System 32}. If you then want to add the keys back to the registry; (for example, if you've accidentally deleted something you shouldn't have) you can do so by clicking on the executable registry key you created. If the key you accidentally deleted stops windows from rebooting, reboot in safe mode with networking, then install the appropriate key, then reboot back to Windows.
You can find plenty of information about S.I. online; I've included three links; one negative (via solvusoft) and two non commital/positive links, via (cNet) and Should I Remove It?.

You can also see a few posts in the Giveaway forums that talk about S.I. HERE, HERE and HERE
Personally I've never had any issues with S.I.. I did accidentally install it 8 years ago, and left it for a couple of months, finding the positive side of the software useful as the software did find lots of programs I had installed that required updating (eg new library files, new free versions etc). I never had any negative repercussions (at least none that I was aware of and my security never picked up any hidden malware). When I reformatted my main drive, (which I do occasionally), I didn't bother reinstalling S.I. simply because I'd purchased other 'commercial' software that did the job of finding software updates better. The first and third links above also have a section that tells you how to remove Software Informer.

it seems that your site is being blocked by Open DNS for phishing. I can get to it only if I follow the link from giveawayoftheday.com but even when I do the game downloads are blocked by Chrome with no option to override. I am on my personal network so this is not an administrator block. The game I was trying to download was Magic Crystals

CLIVE RICHARDS,

Hi Clive the Giveaway site has a very good standing with all of the major search engines because it has kept a clean bill of health for over 11 years and has NEVER given away a game infected with malware.
Unfortunately, the giveaway team were forced to include a Themida wrapper several years ago due to unscrupulous community members ripping off the original game executables, which in many cases were then uploaded to peer to peer sites where the games were then readily available 24/7 instead of the 24 hr period they were licensed for. This caused issues with some developers who were not happy seeing their pride and joys/babies/hard work/ sales etc being ripped off. So Themida wrapper was introduced to stop or at least cut down the thievery that was going on.
Unfortunately, Themida wrappers can also be used to hide malware, so some security software and probably programs like OpenDNS see the giveaways as a threat because of the presence of the Themida code; so they automatically block the installation.
I assure you that the giveaway site is a genuine site that does not try to install malware or adware secretly. Their partner, MyPlayCity, does include low-level adware but that is used only to redirect your browser to their website once you close the game down after playing it (and when you first install the game) so that they earn money through adverts found on their homepage. A percentage of the money earned through these advert goes to the developers of the games being given away. (basically a win-win-win for the developer, distributor, and community member).
There is no hidden software/adware/ malware installed on your computer via the game giveaway (or the giveaway) installer. Most games that can be downloaded for free via MyPlayCity and other free games sites such as Jenkat Games, Gametop, All Free Games, FreeGamePick, and others are actually commercial games (apart from those that MPC have purchased the licences from the original developers) and most are still being sold via other game distributors such as Big Fish Games, Gamehouse, and Amazon (to name just a few).

I suspect that it was briefly blocked for some reason - however now it is working fine. I think the problem was with open DNS (they deny it) rather than google chrome because I was getting the same issue in firefox - hopefully all well no

Anna, You should try again now - I had the same issue but since reporting it to open DNS the page now opens fine - it is nothing to do with google chrome as I got the message in firefox too!
