Magic Ball is a highly addictive Arkanoid remake that won't let you go outside for at least a week once you install it.

Magic Ball is now includes more bonuses and contains 30 new levels – guaranteed to have you hooked up! Professional 3D graphics, studio-level sound effects, awesome original soundtrack and well-designed gameplay are at your service.

The point of the game is to destroy all the bricks the level is comprised of using the rockets. Sometimes you will get bonuses for destroying the bricks. Those bonuses can be good ones - bullets, magnets or rockets, for example, - and getting them will help you to pass the level, or bad ones, such as "Jack - the Bat Killer" or ball Speed-Up, that will negatively affect your performance.

Downloaded and installed. My XP machine froze on level 4, rebooted. Tried it again a couple of days later, froze again on level 2. Rebooted and uninstalled the game. Too bad because I think I'd have enjoyed it.

I ran activate.exe first and then setup.exe. There was no registration key. When I try to start the game, it asks me to register, but of course I don't have the key. Other software that I have downloaded from this site that required registration gave the key at some point during the activation. I did not see one on this game.

Dear GOTD,
When you say Giveaway one would presume it a complete free game with no nags or commitments, that is what I think it means. Its a great game, but when I do download other games and it says I have 60 minutes to play, that I DO NOT LIKE because I immediately remove it from my system. So Please give us totally free full games. We appreciate everything you do, so keep up the good work and keep in mind what I have said.

I tried uninstalling, then installing again. I get the page saying I activated it, but the install says it is shareware. I don't want to lose it if avoidable. I think that happened with the video viewer a while back.

In the setup itself, it said this was shareware. I didn't see any activation key. What's the real story? I haven't had time to try the game. I got in case I wanted to try later.

I gave it a thumbs up, but I agree that the description is a bit overdramatic.

It is nice to play, but it gets boring real quick. It just seems like the levels are too easy and the graphics are something I could make.

Overall, it is a good game for those rainy days.

Looks like a cool game, but when I tried to run it I got an error saying: "Error initializing Direct 3D" I didn't see any requirements for such a thing for this game and am able to run other 3D programs on my XP. Perhaps this is the problem....

No it's not the one I said was the best. Magic Ball is one of the original 3D arkanoids along side X-Ray Ball (which has an editor). Both are very dated now, but still have some playability. Magic Ball 3 is the best of this type of 3D arkanoid clone, but there are others nearly as good, and in some ways have better replayability, such as Incrediball:The Seven Sapphires, or even Strikeball 2 Delux which I think was offered several weeks ago. (and now has an expansion pack available for all those that enjoyed that one). Personally, although I've said Magic Ball 3 is probably the best 3D arkanoid, actually in retrospect, I'd have to say Incrediball is joint first, as it has a great story line interwoven into the game and has some fantastic power ups as well as graphics, that although not as up to date as Magic Ball 3 are never the less pretty cool. Magic ball 3's advantage is it's cutting edge graphics and the fact that it's improved on Magic Ball 2 with new power ups and bonuses. Also I've only recently purchased Magic Ball 3 so am still playing it regularily. I'm not including 2D arkanoids in this discussion, oops! I mean comment. lol

Keep up the marvellous work GotD team, and thank you Alawar, although I've already purchased this one, lol.

For those interested in free stuff. I always left comments about the games I bought from Alawar (Well nearly always)and for Christmas they sent me a package containing a free clock, mug, calandar and a very well made satchel, that my daughter now uses for school; all free of charge, just because I'd taken the time to leave some comments about the games I'd purchased. Nice one Alawar, you're one of the best, although you need to get lots more arkanoids for sale as I think you're choice is rather limited. :)

Good game, though I personally like Shockwave's Ballistik http://www.shockwave.com/gamelanding/ballistik.jsp
and of course Wild Tangent's Blasterball 2: Holidays (which I suggested a few days ago, and despite what people think of Wild Tangent, this is still an awesome game).

I'd really appreciate it if Alawar gave it's installers the intelligence to ask *where* in the start menu to place the shortcuts. I actually (*gasp!*) keep my Start Menu categorised.

Great giveaways usually. I downloaded this game and loved playing it but it caused my computor to freeze up. I uninstalled and reinstalled it in case of problems and the same thing happened. Too bad cause I liked the game, but it was not meant to be on my computor. I uninstalled again and computor is now running fine. I would give it a 9 for game and 3 for problems, so that averages out to about a 6.

A good arkanoid for younger kids who want to try that genre, the paddle is much bigger than usual so it's a lot easier than most. Lots of different dropping bonuses to catch and some are reverse, for example a bat buster that explodes the paddle. To find out what each bonus will do click Info from the main screen, click Prizes, and then hold the mouse cursor over each for a description.

You can tell this is one of Alawar's oldest games. Installer looks different and doesn't let you choose a start menu group. It only asks if you want start menu shortcuts, then dumps them in programs group.

Re: #32 JB:
You need to run activate.exe to get the registered version, find it in the same zip file you found setup.exe to install.

I didn't really have much hope for this one, but it's actually really very good. Remember to run activate.exe BEFORE you run setup.exe, guys, I think that's why some of you are stuck with the trial version. You probably need to uninstall and then try again to get the full one unlocked.

I liked this game. I wanted to try it because I have Magic Ball 2 and loved it. I am amazed at the difference between the 2 games. In the Magic Ball 2 it is sooooooo improved from this first one which is nice but not near as good Magic Ball 2 . It has been interesting seeing how much they improved so I now will try Magic Ball 3 and I will bet it is terrific. Thanks for the great games you GIVE us to try out.

"Professional 3D graphics, studio-level sound effects, awesome original soundtrack and well-designed gameplay"

I'd say out of that description, I'd only agree with "well-designed gameplay." The graphics are mostly standard 3d shapes, with extremely bright colors. If the sound effects were made in a studio, it must've been a studio stuck in the 80s. I realize this is a modern clone, and that they might have been trying to keep with the theme, but if you are going to modernize a game, why not give it a modern soundtrack to complete the package?

Amazingly, though, I forget about everything I wrote above when I actually start playing the game. I only made it to level 5 before saving and exiting, but the levels were fun, the powerups were a little confusing but plentiful, and the gameplay was in fact well designed. I especially liked the huge rocket power-up! Unless more powerups are offered later, however, I don't think this game will have too much replay value to me.

Definitely worth the download though!

I played this game when it was on RealArcade's Beta test list. It is a lot of fun and the 3D is great. Like all games I can take or leave the soundtrack. I like to hear the bricks break. I'm glad I didn't pay for it at the time because now I can get it free. If you are Interested in the RealArcade program I think they are up to version 3 of this game now. Well I better get to downloading. Times a ticken! Last to post! Yeah me!

This is a really good version of Arkanoid, and I am not necessarily even a fan of the game-type. I just played it for like an hour, its a strong game. Good power-ups, nice level designs. This one is a keeper. Well done GOTD

#14 ArkanoidCloneofTheDay is only half the story - what about BejeweledCloneOfTheDay.

It's been done before a hundred time over.

I think it really shows just how uncreative some game developers are that everyone wants to do the same game with maybe a different colored rocket or penguins instead of colored rocks. Same game, different name. Put the blocks in a different pattern, change the music, a new background picture.

Thankfully the Arkanoid and Bejewelled clones might run out sometime - then we can see some truly original and unique games that don't just take the easy way out and copy each other.

I went outside before a week passed.
Three things i've come to expect everytime I visit this website.
1. Usually a very cool game(like this one, not great but cool)
2. A publisher's way out description of their game - guaranteed to have you hooked up - come on Alawar.
3. Some individual who can't read instructions and complains that they did not get a full version when or they don't know the meaning of "extract the game", "click on README", "click on setup", "click on ACTIVATE".

Till tomorrow when i'll see more of the same.

The proceeding game from MagicBall2. The idea is already the same as in the later version 2. (I haven't done the tip of 2 days ago from WhiteRabbit aka Stephen to buy version 3 yet, so I can't compare with that version.) So in a scale from 0-10 I give the program 8 points.

This is one of the first of the 3D breakout clones that took the arkanoid fans by storm several years ago. I bought this a long time ago and followed through with all the others that have been produced. It's still a playable game, although if you haven't tried the Magic Ball 3 demo from Alawar, you haven't lived (lol). Nice game still, although the graphics are a little dated now. You gave away Magic Ball 2 a while ago before the game giveaway was started. Anyone who likes that one will like this. For those who did get the Magic Ball 2 download there are two expansion packs called the Spring level's pack and the Valentines level's pack, both retailing at $14.99 with 100 levels each. There's also a Magic Ball 2 New Worlds. However if you're on a limited budget, I'd go for Magic Ball 3 which retains all the fun of both MB and MB2 and also has new power ups and the most outstanding graphics for this type of game. Well worth $19.99.

Keep the Arkanoids coming, as I'm sure there are some out there I haven't got, but that'll be few and far, lol. For those who complain about getting yet more arkanoids. You'll find there are only a limited number of genre to choose from, so please stop being so pinickity about something that is being given away free. You should be grateful. It's inevitable that we are going to get lots of arkanoids (thankfully) as it's just as likely that we are going to get space shooters or platform games or match the color games etc etc. I love the different takes on all the games that are available. And am really grateful for what the GotD team and the developers have done. Every break time is filled with fun, with so many free games I'm never bored. For a bit of variety try and find a link via google for the top 100 windows games, all free and so far I've not had any malware problems with the 10 or so I downloaded, the kids will love "De Blob" game, developed by a bunch of college students and I found some great space shooters on the lines of "Bullet Candy" such as "Nanazoa", "plus or minus" and "Harmotion" (the latter is actually an online freebie, but is a really good take on the space shooter genre)

Keep up the fantastic work guys, and again, thank you very much.
