Nice, lightweight game with colorful graphics. The puzzles are not that easy for me to solve (I'm a green square; now I'm a rolling green circle; now I'm a purple triangle!) I really wish there was an "Undo" button so when I make a mistake I can undo the last move rather than restarting the puzzle from the beginning. (Grrr...that gets annoying after a while!) Well priced for only $1. Thanks to Wheemplay.

This game is very good, but too short. Add a level editor or make more levels.

Well, I finally found a bit of time to play this game now. Playing on the same netbook as last week, I stopped at level 5, because I could no longer stand the lag.

This game isn't actually developed by Wheemplay, only published by them. There is incredibly sparse help. I had no idea what the different power ups were until I hit them. I recommend the devs put in more help.

@Whiterabbit: I used to live in China a while ago. I'm just visiting family this time. The Internet connection is hit and miss, and the Great Firewall is not really "protecting" me from anything, more annoying me from visiting legitimate (by the rest of the world's standard) sites. And I only managed to get on to my Gmail twice. No idea why it's so hard to check my mail. Maybe it's the SSL connection (which is hardset, unfortunately).

Ah; right. I Always wanted to visit China. Applied for a Visa while I was still at university in the 1960's, but couldn't afford to go in the end.

downloaded and played (briefly!)madshapes just fine on acer 64netbook. but despite finding and using setup file for my acer laptop, can't seem to find proper play file for copying to my desktop. tried closing firefox, re-downloading but still same problem. i think it's integral for that computer since often get message that "program may have installed improperly" with game downloads, though i can usually find the files and they usually play just fine.
anyway, I wanted madshapes because I'm not good at adult physics games and this one looked easier and loved the graphics. don't know how well I'll do yet, but will try on my netbook.

Did you look in C:/Games

There's no flder so it'll be at the bottom of the file listings

I like spacial reasoning games, so thought this would be fun. I liked the 'cartoony' art for this one, and I liked that everything was kept fairly simple.

Like others, I thought a bit more instructions would be nice. The first level, which did give some instruction, did not have a purple changer spot (like an arrow that changes direction or a spot that changes the square to a circle). So for the second level, I was trying to figure out how to collect the purple too. It took me several levels before I realized that mousing over the shape to be removed will give you a HINT.

It would be nice if the level stopped when you run out of shapes. However, the replay button is easy to find.

I do not feel that this game will have any replay value once I finish the existing levels, but I will enjoy it until I'm done.

Thank you

I think this is the first Wheemplay game I've played. Just started playing and in half an hour I'm on level 23, where of course I'm stuck. This is fun trying to figure out the logistics on how to accomplish each goal. The music is repetitive, but you can mostly tune it out. This is a good game, and I hope there are other logistic games here, but are small download sizes, since I pay for what I download, plus have a slower connection speed.

Thank you for your feedback. We'e had several excellent games from Wheemplay over the past several months, for example Alien Rocket Wars, Arcanorum, Archers duty, Fortside, Soviet cypher, Winterball, Yellow adventure, Iron-Serpent Defense, and Box 'n' Ball. Most of them have been puzzle based phtsics games.

Hello visitors to GOTD and the many others who come to this site. Today's offer peaked my interest. I do like Cartoon graphics and they are very good, nice range of color. The music is good and not annoying. I have a puzzle game that has about ten different audio tracks, which I seem to enjoy along with the jigsaw puzzles. I do believe that background audio can influence whether one does likes or dislikes a game.

Great comments from all who took time to write about today's offer. Nice to see that there is a possible "Thread" for simple learning skill games. I can relate to this idea, as sometimes FreeCell is easy and other times it is very hard, described as difficult. Came accross a game called "BrainTraining for Dummies", and I wanted to download but my protection software issued a warning. Have it on: follow-up list waiting for 96 degrees & rising, 6 inches of snow & still falling, think I will stay inside and play on my computer day. Some are offended by titles with the words, Idiot or Dummy, I am not and learned about VW car mechanics from such a titled book, glad that I did. When I follow up I will post on this site or the Thread link. Clever game and was supposed to help with developing learning skills.

To all who left valuable comments: Yeah !!!!. Many thanks to Wheem. GOTD and other gamer's who provided insight about GAMES....

Like the game. Installed fine, started fine.
I didn't need instruction as the game is pretty simple.
Only problem is level 8, where I collect all 4 symbols, but the game only sees that I collect 3 and so I can't finish that level.
Looks buggy....

Very colorful but I have tried several of this companies games and this one just like most of the others needs more directions. A lot more directions. It's colorful enough to be meant for kids and my grandkids would run the other way in frustration just trying to figure out how to play this one.

A fun little game. I'm a fan of the bright colors and cartoony look (so are my kids who can play this simple game). Some of the levels got a little annoying relying to much on "luck of the bounce". A little more to the game would be nice. More levels or an editor possibly. I finished it in about 30 minutes. The important part is I had fun doing it. Nice basis for a little more devopment. Thanks wheemplay!

This appears to be a great game for younger kids, but didn't hold my attention as an adult. If you have kids, I would say this is worth the download. Otherwise, you can probably find something better to occupy your time.

Oh, I really like this! Can you say, "FRUSTRATION"? LOL
I have a little trouble with needing to request that they start my level over. I'd like it better if they just TOLD me that I couldn't finish the level and need to try again. That way a stupid game is telling me I failed and I'm not having to actually admit it to myself.

I just installed it to go with the other Wheemplay games I have. Since they're all a single executable, they don't each need their own folder. I got stuck for a bit with the gray triangle but finally figured it out. It's a simple game that just makes you think. It is "timed" in the sense that you get higher scores the fast you do them but if you aren't in a competition, you can ignore that!

I don't get all the Wheemplay games (I think I have 5 now) but this one is: Thumbs up!

Hello to all

I haven't installed the game yet, I'll do it later today.

Whiterabbit, it's the first time I comment in the game section and a chance for me to say thanks for the great job you do. There is a greek word ("μεράκι", meráki) which expresses the "Love in work, a desire for perfection (in how we serve and what we cook or craft)", that's the impression we get from your reviews (and your posts in the forum - probably, I haven't used it much).

Now, (after all this @licking) I would like to ask why the developers provide us with an install wizard while it's a about games of only one file, can't we just download the .exe file (compressed or not)? More important, can we use this kind of games as portable?

P.S.: It's very crowded today, huh?

..............................Moderator comment..........................

Thanks for your comment. The install wizard is to protect the game from abuse. That is, it's supposed to stop users from being able to reinstall the game on another day To the last question; I can't answer that.

I think a lot of people are starting their vacations, which probably explains the lack of comments. Though I've been asleep and there have been several more comments posted before yours this afternoon that hadn't been moderated.

Would love to be able to play this game but totally baffled about how. Cant find any instructions even on some of the browser based versions. I do play a lot of different flash games but cant work this one out at all!

....................Moderator Comment...................

Open up the first level. It basically tells you what to do. (See the third image in my review above. Basically you have to cause the shape that appears with your mouse pointer to hit the same shapes and color by using the environment and power ups. The trick is knowing where to place the shape in the first place. Look at the image it tells you where to place the shapes. Playing that level (Level 1) should tell you the basics of the game. If that doesn't help, watch the walkthrough videos

I was able to install this without any problem, just changing the default location from Games to Program Files and setting up a folder for it.

I got up to level 5. When I first played the level, the shapes available were the ones that would have matched the shapes on the playing field. Since I failed in my first attempt, I had to retry, but when I did, the available shapes changed to a green square and two gray triangles - and there were no gray triangles on the playing field. So either I was missing something or that is a glitch. The playing clock keeps running down, even when you are unable to make any more moves since you can't pick up a shape again once you drop it, which seems rather unnecessary. It should stop when the action is done.

Thanks for offering the game, but it's not for me.

....................Moderator comment..................

No it wasn't a glitch. If you look carefully you'll notice that the two grey shapes are laced only a short distance apart. By dropping your shape between them you get both of them together. :)

I am glad that someone mentioned the flash site as i tried that first. I literally got nowhere as whatever instructions there were made no sense to me, though try as i did to follow them. the music is hideous. The colours are what attracted me but since I could not figure out the flash version after reading this site and viewing some pics I voted thumbs down. sorry about that.

In general this is a nice little game for satisfying a few moment of boredom. The music isn't too bad however I would turn it off since that is just my personal preference while playing almost any game.

The one thing that I would like to see is a short tutorial option in the menu. This could be very much geared toward very young player or people who are new to gaming of any type. It is easy to forget that what is intuitive to the person who has been playing computer games for years is a mystery to a complete novice.

Computers are now reaching all strata of class and education. Therefore a little tutorial within the game would be better than to have to go to a different site to find the answers on how to play a game.

Whiterabbit
"The levels are easy enough for children to play, yet challenging enough to give any adult a few minutes of distraction."

I've been meaning to ask... My wife has Early Onset Alzheimer's, diagnosed at age 50. She has a Master's and used to do statistics, but now has trouble adding small numbers.
On the positive side, she is in a research study and the drug (Monoclonal Antibody) is actually helping and she is now able to relearn a few things that she had lost.
My question is, might you have a list of games that are able to be played in a relaxed, untimed, low stress environment, that are not so simple that they would be insulting to her.
Even though she is doing better, one of her biggest problems now is that the rebuilding of neural pathways appears to be a very slow process and some aggressively timed games can stress her out.
Thanks for any suggestions and if there is any other interest, perhaps we could start a thread in the forums?

..................Moderator comment................

That was strange, before I'd even finished reading your post i though it would be a good idea to start a thread. If you don't mind, I'll copy over your post to the forums (will wait till you agree) and we can take it from there. I'll post a list of games I think would be suitable over the next few days. :)

Thanks Wheemplay for offering these good games, although I'd like to hear about the performance of them on people using old (> 7 years) laptops or netbooks. Most of their games have been basically unplayable for me due to severe lag and general slowness from the underlying Flash infrastructure. I understand it is my fault for using slow hardware, but many casual gamers own machines in the same ballpark. Hopefully we can see some native Windows or Android versions of Wheemplay games in the future.

Whiterabit, whatever would we do without all of your Sterling work? People think you are part of Giveawayoftheday...

I personally am also very greatful for an opportunity to try out a game online first. It saves downloading a game and then using Revo, etc. to make sure it has gone if I do not like it. By trying it out online first though, I can make sure it is worth downloading - Which saves Giveawayoftheday some bandwidth I suppose...

My own fault really, I'm not a dedicated gamer who will play any and every game. I just like them to relax or pass the time. I know, it makes me a real gaming wimp! My personal best value for money has been "Hoyle Table Games". From here, the games I seem to keep going back to are:

Around the world in 80 days
Astro avenger 1 & 2
Atlantis quest
Gem ball ancient legends
Hyperballoid
Puzzle hero
Rich man monopoly (but needs a lot of work doing on the software yet)
Roboball
Sawoid
Star defender 2
Strike ball 2 deluxe
Time breaker
Trick ball

While online everyone on here must know far more than I do, but I have to mention three really odd ones that I keep going back to:

Daily jigsaw puzzle
http://www.coolestone.com/media/959/Daily_Jigsaw_Puzzle/

Trafalgar origins
http://www.channel4.com/play-win/trafalgar-origins/

Puppy curling (this game seems safe, but some of the videos also on the website are not apparently)
http://www.ebaumsworld.com/games/play/1185

I wondered what games others find thay keep going back and playing, even if the are embarasing to admit to?

Has Wheemplay ever made a game that was bad? I can't find one :D

.......................Moderator comment.........................

I've found virtually all of their games very playable. The only downside for me is those games that don't come with a levels editor tend to be quite short. but then again they only cost 99cents each. I reckon combining all of their games into a single compendium of games would create a very good arcade game that would sell via all of the big game distributors

You can play this free as a flash game at http://www.physicsgames.net/game/Mad_Shapes.html

.....................Moderator comment....................

There are pages of sites where you can play this game. :) Just google "play Mad Shapes"

The advantage of downloading it from the giveaway project is you can play it outside your browser and in full screen made. also you don't get all the extras that come with playing it via a browser. 9I find playing via browsers a little distracting, plus i prefer full screen to awindowed game. Still each to their own preference. the downloaded file size is minimal 97.5Mb) and there is no impact on the registry. When you've done with the game and you don't mind deleting games once played you just have to delete theg ames executable to remove all traces of the game.

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you’ve checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain why your reasons for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with a levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen

Installationl>:

The game downloads to a 7.5Mb zip file that unpacks to a read me and dual activation and setup file. The game install's to the following path by default, but you can change the path during the installation wizard if you wish:

C:\Games

As with all Wheemplay games the games executable is installed directly into the games folder with no associated files. You will need to create your own shortcut for the game. It works on XP, Vista and Win 7. To uninstall just delete the installed executable. There are no registry files associated with the game so you won't be able to uninstal using windows own uninstaller.

Problems installing or activating:l>

If you have difficulty downloading or activating the game you can try again later or do one of the following - for example once downloaded when you click on the dual activation and set up file you may get the message “Failed to connect. Please try again later” If this happens try re-booting your modem and/or router, failing that reboot your computer or clear out the internet cache, in particular the cookies for the game giveawayoftheday then re-try.

You can see a slideshow of about 15 images HERE. These show the first several levels, plus level selection screen and main menu.

The Game:l>

Mad shapes is a simple flash based physics game where you have to match colored shapes using the environment and various power ups to move the objects together. There are only 25 levels available, but they should keep you occupied for an hour or so (dependng upon how quick you are at solving the puzzles and whether you are aiming to get a high score to upload to the developers high score tables. I was able to upload my high score at any level when playing the browser game, but it appears to be locked in the downloadable version. As you would expect with any puzzle game, the puzzles get progressively harder as you progress; that said, I found them very easy and powered through several levels in a matter of minutes.

The aim of the game is to match colored shapes with their corresponding colored shape that you'll find somewhere in the level. The objects you have to match appear one at a time over the mouse pointer so make sure you select the correct match otherwise you'll need to restart the level via the button to the left of the playing area. you can restart a level at any time and replay any levels as many times as you wish. To complete most levels you'll need to use the various power ups such as 'speed up's' and 'gravity changers' to complete the level. Each level is timed to count backwards from 100 seconds, in increments of 0.1 seconds (you'll see the counter whizzing down from 1000). The quicker you solve the puzzle the more points you will get.

The game is very colorful with non-descript music which can be turned off via the level selection screen. When first starting the game you'll find that you can play any of the 25 levels in any order you wish because they are all unlocked. Once you've completed a level there is an indicator next to the level numer in the levels section that shows you which levels you've played. If you play the free browser versions of this game only the first 5 levels are unlocked. Every time you complete a level a new level will be unlocked.

There are two videos available that cover walkthroughs for all the levels. Unfortunately you have to watch up to 13 different solutions to find your own because there isn't any individual walkthroughs.

Conclusion:l>

Although you can play this game online at a multitude of browser game sites (just Google Play MadShapes), the advantage of downloading today's gamegiveaway rather than playing it via a browser is that you can play it offline at any time, play it in full screen or avoid any possibility of pop-ups and malware from rougue sites.

Despite the sparcity of levels, the game is well suited as a fill in game when you need a short break from work or other larger more complex games. The levels are easy enough for children to play, yet challenging enough to give any adult a few minutes of distraction.
Score:l>

Game play - 7
Graphics - 7
Music - 5
Replayability - 4

Overall Score 23 out of 40 which equates to 5.75 out of 10 (basically a very ordinary game), but still IMO worth downloading.

suggestions:l>

1) ... Include a levels editor (25 level's is just not enough)
2) ... Combine all of your flash games into a single compendium of arcade games.
3) ... Add different backgrounds to the game
4) ... Linked to the above - create different stages with different environments
5) ... Include achievements and awards
6) ... At least double the number of levels

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alternative Games:l>

There's a free arcade game available weekly from Sandlot games. Alawar games have a montly freebie, but you need to download their gamebox to access the freebie. Several members of the giveaway community post free games over in the giveaway forums (which is accessible from the link at the top of this page just below the gamegiveaway header - just click on forums). There's a thread posted in the stickies called Free Games Synopsis where you'll find links to around 2000 free games (all of which have been checked for malware and safe sites), plus check the Games Discussion forums. We post free games on a weekly basis (sometimes daily). MyPlayCity are still increasing their library of free games, with new additions almost weekly.

If you are willing to pay for your games there are a multitude of games on sale from Steam, Impulse, Direct 2 Drive and Gamersgate. For example you can get the latest Civilization game, which was released earlier this year for a little over £10 (approx $15) or Clice Barkers Jericho from Codemasters, a really good immersive action horror game for only £1.74 (approx $3).
