Crazy Desert Car is an exciting game in the arcade genre.

The Sandbox of god is a puzzle at heart, where every decision you make affects your outcome in the end.

For instance: You can use each godly power only once. So say you use the rain function. Then you make a comet hit the earth. The ground, being mushy, allows the comet to get stuck in the ground and become a mountain. But if you use the comet function first, the comet will leave a big crater. Then by using a rain function, you can fill the hole with water, making a lake.

Originally released in 2004, this new version of the game adds a whole new graphical interface, new sound and music, two new modes, extra features and more!

I really enjoyed this game. Have only played the classic mode but was hooked instantly. Would be interested in a really beefed up modern version of this graphic-wise. I ended up looking up the steps to complete the check list and still had fun just following the steps to see what would happen between the rabbit and human society's. Great concept and well worth playing through. If a mobile version of this does not exist, it certainly should. I'd totally pay for it.

Another really great game! The Classic mode reminds me quite a bit of the Grow series of Flash games by Eyezmaze. The Boardgame mode is quite clever as well.

I would have liked to see a few more cards to use in Classic/Boardgame with some different effects (like some different kinds of animals to interact with the rabbits and humans, fertilizer for the plants, etc.).

The Warfare mode is quite interesting and I just haven't had enough free time to really play with it.

Thanks to Vertigo Games and GGOD for the game and WhiteRabbit for compiling all of the info about it.

I think this game has a lot of potential for expansion. New modes with better grqpaphics, maybe even a first or third person mode. Your ideas are also a good idea. more of everything to make the game even more replayable over time. i'm sure the developer will be watching these comments and
i hope he takes action.

There's a new game about to be released on Steam called 'From Dust' which is what i'd like to see ths game morph into ( that is the ability to terraform or reduce landforms from that third or first person perspective). Now that would be like holding the hand of god. :)

You can check out From Dust via the following link:

One of your longest reviews Stephen. Well, it looks that way. But I miss your conclusions and rating this time. Or did it get lost in my confusion.
Looks interesting so I will try it.

I didn't find out until early this morning about today's game so it was too late to prepare a basic review last night (most Wheemplay games are available as browser games so I can usually take some screenshots and get an overall impression of the game, but this morning I wasn't able to register the game (still can't for some reason, even after trying my own fixes), plus I'd promised to do some things with my family today. (My wife is a little fed up of the time I spend on the game giveaway and forum so needed to make some allowances. Family comes first). I'll be back for next Saturday's game giveaway.

I only played Classic and board game modes, but I had trouble understanding what was going on. I'd do an effect, then graphics would happen. Did it reduce my men? did it hurt rabbits? Did the lightning effect the ground? How do the people find the gold? It was too confusing to be any fun.

Whiterabbit-uk please don't post the walkthrough in the first comment post it at the end of the giveaway period because it will make the very interesting game less interesting because people read the comment and then only download the game. Thanks. Todays game is a nice game indeed

Hi Prince, I don't see your reasoning. I don't post actual walkthroughs, I post the links to walkthroughs. I don't expect the majority of community members will even bother to look at them because they are obviously spoilers. However the choice is there for anyone who gets stuck on a level and wants to check a walkthrough.

#1: "... I’ve just removed my Vista drive from the computer as I need the space for a new 2 Terabyte drive so that i can install the rest of my Steam games. I’ve filled a 2 TB drive already and can’t install about a third of my Steam games..."

Maybe & FWIW & all that... meritline.com sometimes has eSATA/USB 2.0 drive docks on sale for ~$20 US shipped, & a lot of their stuff is shipped around the world [they do list the UK]. The same goes for USB 3.0 versions -- they have some that come bundled with cards for slightly more, or sell the cards with an NEC chip for ~$12 US. That way you could have theoretically unlimited storage for your games Whiterabbit, as long as you didn't run out of hard drives or places to store them. :-)

Well, just started classic mode, and after using the Godly thunder, the caption in the lower left corner saying "Strike the ground with your godly thunder" in bold yellow text won't go away.... so therefore cannot read most of rest of the effects to do. Even going to the next ERA didn't erase it. Grrrr. Having a hover over with a brief description on the icons in upper right corner would be very helpful now.

I lost this game in a crash. I forgot how much fun it was and how frustrating. In the original game I kept a notebook on all the ways I tried it.
This is similar in a simple way to Sid myers Alpha Centuri and others that no matter how many times you played it there were major or subtle changes. It can get boring(or bored Tyler but not rubbish as some spell checkers are) if it's not your type of game.

Hmmm....Interesting playing God. In the game I played I had no choice other than to slaughter the first born of families. Of course the people were ranked as being evil at that time. In fact they were evil throughout the game. I guess I would have the people start out as being good (Adam and Eve), then sin and eventually potentially get to the level of evil that is in our world today.

Anyway, it's an interesting game. It reminds me of an old favorite "Shadow President". The price is very reasonable and there is something appealing about being "God".

The graphics are okay for a game offered in it's price range. The sound effects add value to the game too. It is nice that there are different playing modes to choose from. I don't know if it's a keeper or not, but it has created enough interest to try the different modes for a while. It didn't want to let me exit the game screen, but that could very well have been my computer's fault. Nothing that the task manager couldn't handle (end process)

Thanks.

Great game, a kind of strategic simulation.

I had this game once before but back then the graphics were very unappealing. In this Remastered version that changed a lot for the better even though it looks a bit retro which really doesn't bother me at all.
I don't remember wether the old version was a vertigo release though.

Three different modes of playing: board game mode, classic mode (which I remember) and Warfare mode (which is great).
In all modes there is some kind of help/introduction but the most elaborate one can only be reached in warfare mode.

And i'm very pleased with the startup of this game, it doesn't splash the full screen in to your face, but you can choose the mode, very nice. No worries about the desktop arrangement.

The music is okay (well to me it is, it's all a matter of taste of course), but if you like to change it, it is very well possible.
In subfolders "oggmusic" and "wavsounds" are ogg-soundfiles wich you could replace with your own ogg-files (just keep the names).
There is an option to set the music off (after some time this is something I almost always like to do, just the effect sound will be there)

This is the type of game you can spend hours with, redo things, what if.. etc.

Thanks Vertigo and GGotD

Sandbox of God Revamped.

Installation:

The downloaded zip file is 15.9Mb in side and unpacks to a dual activation and set up module (the file with the key image) and a read me document. To install and activate the game just click on the file with the key symbol which is orange in color, (may look light green if you’re color blind). By default the game installs to:

C:\Program files\The Sandbox of God Remastered

but this can be changed if you wish. The final installation size is 17.9Mb. A shortcut is installed to the desktop and the Start Menu program list. You can uninstall the game via the Start menu shortcut or directly from the installed folder.

The game works in Win XP and Win 7. I've just removed my Vista drive from the computer as I need the space for a new 2 Terabyte drive so that i can install the rest of my Steam games. I've filled a 2 TB drive already and can't install about a third of my Steam games; so at the moment can't confirm whether it works in Vista. I'll check with the laptop (which has Vista Home Basic) later.

Opening page
Introduction:

The following are reviews and information from various sources. I’ve had such a busy week, that I though I’d save time by posting this information rather than writing a full review of my own. I apologise for this, but I just didn't have the time to write one, (which is a pity because I really like this game). I’ve played the original freeware version of The Sandbox of God loads of times and loved it, so when the developer decided to remaster the original I was ready to purchase it just as soon as it was released. The game 'as stated by the developer' is DRM free, which is great (and for those who don't know what that means, there is no online registration required for the purchased version).

In my opinion it’s a great indie game that's well worth the paltry sum of $3.95. However, today you don’t even have to pay for it. :)

Today's version is the same as the one we got last year (v1.56). If you already have the game from the previous giveaway there's no need to re install this one.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Game:

Today's remastered version of the game is built on the updated 2004 release of The Sandbox of God. The main differences between the freeware version (v1.52) and the commercial version (v1.56) are the latter remastered version has two new game play modes called ‘Warfare’ and the ‘Simulated Boardgame’ Modes. The game also includes all the updates made to the original freeware version such as using the latest Game Maker 8 engine instead of Game Maker 5; which basically means faster processing. There’s also a new save system and you can play the game in a slightly larger resolution than from the original; though when you consider the size of the average flat screen monitor now, the retro screen resolution of 800 x 600 seems rather absurd, but this is because the new version is just a remastered version of the original. You can play the game in full screen via the toggle in the options menu, but there will be a large black border filling in the area not covered by the game. If you wanted the game area to look larger, with a smaller black border you would have to temporarily reduce the size of your screen resolution via the properties window.

The options menu contains a music toggle, the windowed/full screen toggle, an erase data button, which enables you to restart the level and a go back button that takes you to the main menu. The main menu gives you access to news and updates as well as any patches that may be available.

I'm not sure whether the giveaway version will qualify you for updates due to the giveaway clauses that you can find in the read me that accompany the game in the zipped download file, but I don't see how that function can be omitted from the giveaway version. The best thing to do is contact the developer if and when an update has been made to see if it is possible. Choosing ‘New Game’ from the main menu opens up a new screen that gives you access to all three available modes, that is Classic Mode, Simulated Boardgame Mode and Warfare Mode. The news and updates button also gives you access to a spoiler free hints guide that is very useful for those new to the game.

According to Felix Atagong's unfinished project the freeware version seem to have had the hidden Easter Eggs removed, plus despite the update there has been no new content added. C:\Program Files\The Sandbox of God Remastered\oggmusic (32bit)

C:\Program Files (x86)\The Sandbox of God Remastered\oggmusic (64bit)

You’ll need to rename and convert the music you wish to use from your usual MP3 or WMA to .ogg - Please change the names of the music you choose to add to the ones you are replacing otherwise the game may crash or at the very least no music will play. Alternative Games

Vertigo games are offering several games for free. Acid bomb and Acid bomb 2. Wizzard of Ozz actually posted some of the freeware Vertigo games some time ago as part of our ongoing free games for the weekdays project. You can find download links those games below:

Prisms of Light 1 & 2

You have to guide light using prisms (really!):

Sandbox of God:

This game was recently upgraded and has been released as a commercial game for less than $5. The original version is still available as freeware though. I purchased the updated version and apart from some minor graphic enhancements I found little difference between the freeware and commenrcial version. You can find detils of the freeware version via the following link:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/4391#post-47148

and directly from Vertigo:

Vivid Conceptions:

A great platformer.

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/5743

The original version of Shellblast called Acidbonmb and its sequel Acidbomb 2 can be downloaded from the following links. I’ve quoted the information found on the Vertigo gaming website for each of the games :

Acidbomb:

http://www.vertigogaming.net/acidbomb.php

Acidbomb is a fifty level puzzle game where you must find the pistons used to trigger a bomb and defuse them before time runs out. There are many bombs scattered around the world, from biological bombs that have hair-sensitive triggers to napalm bombs that are exploding at the seams, to nuclear warheads that have challenged even the highest trained bomb disposal agent.

Along with this game you get the Virtual Bomb Simulator which allows you to make your own bombs, and a mini-game called Acidrop that is completely different from the rest of the game...but you'll see that for yourself.

Given that all the bombs in the game have random pistons, you will never EVER solve a bomb the same way twice. Ever.

Acidbomb 2: Rearmed:

http://www.vertigogaming.net/acidbomb2.htm

Quote:

Acidbomb 2: Rearmed is the sequel to the acclaimed Acidbomb (noted by such sites as Gamespy.com and in the Top 100 Free Games of 2006 on 1up.com) that takes the original and gives it a complete overhaul. If you thought the first game was too easy or unbalanced...you’re in for a treat. This game is for the casual and hardcore puzzle fanatic alike.

The objective: secure the world by defusing bombs from criminals and terrorists alike. As you crack down on this new and dangerous threat, the technology improves with both the Homeland Security team (new weapons) and the terrorists (new bomb types, such as Biological, Oxidation and more). We also have reason to believe that there are several nuclear bombs hidden in major public areas in the United States, Europe and Japan...and the clock is ticking...

With over fifty levels, unlockable content and mini-games and more, you’ll be busy fighting the terrorist threat for quite a while.

There are several more free games from the Vertigo site, which have been posted in the free games for the weekdays project, so I’m not going to mention them here

Problems:

1) … If you get the following message:
"Problems encountered when starting the game" or something similar
try the following fixes

Try updating your graphics drivers or it could be a compatibility issue; try playing the game in compatibility mode. Also, if you have your screen resolution set too high it may crash. The game wasn't designed to play on high res screens, with a default screen resolution of only 800 x 600. try reducing your resolution temporarily. If it works and you like the game it may be worth keeping and turning the resolution down whenever you fancy a game. Yeah I know, it's a little annoying, but some games are worth the effort.

2) … To escape from the game use either the Esc-button, then choose quit; or, click on the upward pointing arrow (near the bottom of the game area). You’ll find an arrow on all modes; this takes you back to the main menu where you can then quit the game.

3) … If the game doesn’t run smoothly you may not have enough free RAM; either turn off some background programs manually or install the free version of Game Booster from Iobit which is available via the following link:

We got the pro version a few months ago via the main giveaway site, however the free version works just as well. Basically it turns off all unnecessary windows programs and you can also manually program the app to turn off non windows applications as well. A button is provided to return your computer to normal one you've finished playing your game.
