The game works great! Nice graphics and cool retro music. The Save Game and Load Game features do not seem to work however.
Great game overall. Mindless fun :)

There’s a save feature and you can select three levels of difficulty via the settings menu, where you can also adjust the volume of the sound effects and music

There is an option "save"...but it does not work. How did you get it to work?

Downloaded and installed fine, had to find where it installed and create a shortcut in order to play the game, this had to have been one of the most boring games I have ever tried from gaotd :-(

It started out okay with the graphics. Though they could run it at a high resolution. I felt like all the ships took up too much room on the screen. There was no real change from level to level. If there was more than one level. I installed it twice and still could not get the sound to work. You also can not have more than 9 extra lives. The game starts off kind of difficult. Since you do not seem to get any power ups for at least the first 3-5 minutes of the game. Then about every 2-3 minutes after that like clock work you get a bunch of power ups. All in all It was a decent try. with decent graphics, but it fell flat after that. It reminded me of some of those old Atari games where things just kept going and going. There at least the background changed once in a while. SO I would say snoozefest

Addendum to above comment: Unfortunately, once you get enough powerups going the game is far too easy. In fact, it is unending and monotonous. This game needs more work.

OK, so it's an old genre and not the most exciting game in the world--nevertheless the animations are nice and smooth and the movement of the "invaders" is nicely random. You don't need the reflexes of a sixteen year old to at least get somewhere before you die. Maybe not quite worth 10 bucks, but a decent game. It would have been more polite to have the game installer also create the desktop icon, but I suppose that most people who play games know how to make a shortcut as well.

Two thumbs down. This game is too easy - it has a blind spot. If you move your ship to the bottom left hand side of the screen and hold the mouse button for continous fire, you hit everything (all paths cross this line of fire). I stopped at 26,900 out of boredom. I would never play this game a second time. One word comes to mind - generic.

although i liked the game, the lack of "notion of progress" in it, except for the highscore, made it somewhat unsatisfying.
this made me realise that games like this with waves give you
a completly different feel.
you keep feeling satisfied for going to the next level.
here the only thing you can do is go for the high score.

Forgot to mention, on the HUD, the blue bar is shield and the red bar is health. Shield depletes before health, but health depletes faster than shield. (Try figuring that out.)

Hi GMMan, I've taken the liberty of copying your other three posts onto the first one. The three missing ones haven't been deleted just not approved (just in case there was a reason for you splitting the sections. I've added a seperator to make the post look more aesthetically pleasing. If you're not happy, just let me know ansd I'll change your post back to what it was.

Regards

Whiterabbit.

Oh yes, I've taken the liberty of copying over the whole post to my review post in the forums. You've covered a few points that I didn't get around to such as the differentiation between easy and hard, plus the different ship types. Thanks for going to so much trouble. It's =rare that anyone else bothers to post in depth about the games these days. We used to have a few others who posted decent reviews such as Merril and Lockett - (a few others but my memory is appalling at the moment)

All right. An unwritten manual.

As the developers said, "You are a space fighter pilot who must shoot wave after wave of aliens and protect the Earth." Simple enough.

Main Menu
New Game - Starts a new game
- One Player - Play by yourself
- Two Players - Play with a buddy (now go fight over the mouse)
Load Game - Does squat, not needed at all
Settings - Change volume and difficulty
- Music Volume - Changes volume of background music; steps of 5
- Sound Volume - Changes volume of sound effects; steps of 5
- Difficulty - Changes how hard the game is; Easy is really easy, 1x points; Normal is a little harder, not bad, 2x points; Hard is sort of hard, your shots are not as effective, 3x points
Records - High-score table, that is if you ever die; initially blank, has 10 slots
Quit - Exits, as you'd expect it to

In-game Menu
Continue - Resume playing
Save Game - Doesn't even work, no point to it
Load Game - Even less point, as saving doesn't work
Settings - Same thing as in the Main Menu
Main Menu - Yes/no quit to main menu and end your current (unsavable) game

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gameplay

Single player
Use the mouse to move around. Move left to go left, right to go right, up to go up, down to go down, you get the idea.
Left click to fire. You can hold it to continuously fire (as most people would). There are no ammo limits.

Enemies
Silver UFO - One shot kill. Some shoot green star-lasers. +100 points.
Red/Black UFO - Two shot kill. Some shoot red star-lasers. If hit the first time, it will flash white. +200(?) points.
Big Fighter Plane - Multiple shot kill. They shoot huge yellow star-lasers that does quite a lot of damage. ~+2300 points.

The number of times that you have to shoot a ship to blow it up is multiplyable by your difficulty level. Same for points. 1x=easy, 2x=normal, 3x=hard.

Powerups
Blue - Shield repairs; adds about 1/3 of the bar
Red - Health; denomination not quite clear
Green - Weapon upgrade; upgrades your laser to be longer, faster shooting. Blue laser->Yellow laser->Red laser.
Purple - 1up gives you extra ship; you can have up to 9 ships

Two Player
Same gameplay, except with two ships. The mouse-controlled one is red, the arrow-keys controlled one is blue. Red ship's status is left, Blue's is right.
Blue's Controls
Arrow keys - move around
Ctrl (left or right) - Fire (you can hold it)

The game is over when the first player runs out of ships. High score is determined by that player.

Oh, and the game doesn't end until you die.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Uninstallation
Just delete the folder that the game is in. However, it might leave behind some settings data.

Hey, variation on this game. Instead of shooting the UFOs, dodge them instead. See how many you can dodge before having to shoot them. (I'm sick and tired of protecting the Earth, so I'll have people in the space station or a military base shoot those stupid things down.)

Nice, colorful, but boring after 6 million points. Not enough possibilities, no boss-levels, few upgrades. A lot of potential though!

I think most comments would have been made by now, but I have this meaning (I didn't read much comments), this can be of some use:

- At first stage, it's not obvious what the coloured bubbles mean. What is blue? Purple, green, orange, etc..
- After playing, I know now blue = health, orange seems to be armor, but it's not decreasing? Purple = extra life.
- What is green? Still not known to me..
- Explosives are O.K.. The points coming on the screen also. But sometimes it's just TOO MUCH on the screen.. you don't see anything anymore.
- In the beginning, I had a few hundred points and was asking myself "how far would I get?" .. (I had smtn in mind like 400.000 points). Then at once you get stronger weapons, easier kills, LOT more points. I think this "stronger" weapons happened 2 times, then it stopped?
==> What I mean here.. in the beginning, I thought I was nearly dying. Then after a while, I kept playing and if I didn't kill myself, I was still playing..
- Also I think extra lifes are coming a LOT. I kept hanging at about x9 lifes (maximum).
- Still not sure what green and orange really does..

All in all, I like the game, I used to like playing these kind of games.

Paying for this game.. I don't know. But 10 dollars sure isn't much. I'm sure I would buy this game ... but it has to be promoted somewhere. If this site didn't exist, and the game gets released somewhat later on, I wouldn't be knowing that it even exists..

Good luck developers!

Loaded and ran fine on Windows XP/SP3.

I can't add more really than what has already been said here - it has about 5 minutes of staying power and then after that, it just becomes repetitive and finally, boring. For all the reasons already stated, this one will not continue to inhabit the dusty confines of my hard drive, but thanks all the same GGOTD....nice that it was free, because anyone who actually would have plonked down $10 for this game would have been screaming to get their money back about 6 minutes into it.

as previously stated

extreme redundancy
no save feature
very few different enemy types
no boss type
very few "power ups"
max of 9 extra lives
no help
no weapon exchange/alt weapon
no super weapon like a bomb or radius kill

all in all a boring, mindless game

Well, after playing this for almost an hour, I have to say that my eyes are watering from all the effects, and most of all, staring at the screen without really looking around. This game is a framerate butcherer, especially if you have onboard or an old graphic card. Too repetitive for me, too little power ups, and worst of all, saving doesn't work (maybe it's just me). There could be some new backgrounds, maybe, and perhaps different levels. It'd be also good if waves don't come one after another, so then I can get some time to clear my screen and get my framerate back.

Overall rating: 6/10

It's one of those waste time type games, you don't need much skill. I had to stop at 3million points Graphics are cool just wish there was a little more to it.Too bad us people with Vista didn't get to play a game like 3D chess and I wanted to play that one. Can we get more Vista compatible games., That take some thought in the play. I liked incinerate from the other day. I'll keep this for when the kids come to play no-brainer games There are alot of indie games out there Oh well better luck next week. Is it too muc to ask for three days of games with one of those days for GOOD vista games!

To the developer (if he is watching): Wha's the use of having "Load Game" in the menu if there is no way to "save" a game? How can you load a game that does not exist and never can? If there IS a "save" feature, you certainly have it well hidden?

Decent game for the first 15 minutes. Only three enemy types and three weapon types. Once you get the maximum weapon you can simply sit in one spot holing fire and the first two types of enemies will explode the instant they touch your beam. As the game progresses the only increase in difficulty is the number of ships thrown at you. You'll also get more power ups than you can use, limit of 9 lives and 3 weapon levels but you'll still get tons of weapon and life power ups. As well the save/load function does not work.

Good for a few minutes, no lasting power.

I this correct? If a game installs in a folder and exists only in that folder...is there yours then to keep FOREVER (as long as you don't delete the folder)? Evenif you get a new computer (assuming you want to keep the game) youi just copy that dolder into it?

Look. 9.99 dollars is very little money. Sorry, but if you can't buy it, then you should be very needy. It would be better to offer other game or this, and another. There was a day (not just one, sure) when two software was offered in GAOTD.

I had no idea that Invaders style game (which I like) can be soooo boring. Not a slightest challenge, two types of enemies... After few minutes of playing on normal I reached the limit of extra lives, and even when I decided to quit, I had to actively kill my planes, because enemies would take too long to do this.

Hi ct, I'd follow the links I've provided and check out the many freeware alternatives. some are brilliant especially compared to todays game. Here they are again:

All on one page:

As a slideshow:

http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/intergalactic%20invaders/?albumview=slideshow

On the question of endless levels, I tried to save my game after half an hour, but it wouldn't let me. I really don't see the point in having a save feature if it's locked.

Actually , both my children aged 8 and 10 were watching me test this game and ended up playing it on one of the other computers after I'd tested whether the game was free standing. They really enjoyed playing it for a while, and found it hard to beat; (losing several times), playing both single player and together; I've asked both of them what they think of the game and both have said it was good, so, maybe it's a good game to introduce the children to. Some of the more up market space arcade shooters can get a little confusing for a child with respect to upgrading power ups and the sometimes confusing array of enemies (for eample in Jet's 'n' Guns

I'm quite surprised at the reaction of my two children though because we have at least 1500 arcade and DVD based games available to play, and that's not including freeware or abandonware games. They have the latest Wii, DS and PC games, yet were playing this game and really enjoying it, so maybe my 4 out of 10 was a little harsh; (not from my point of view, but maybe for the children it's worth a little more).

I installed the game on XP sp3 and it went smoothly. The pros stops there though.

What's the purpose of this game? I played it for about 45 minutes and all that happens is that I get the same boring graphic elements over and over. All I do is shoot the hell out of everything but there appears to be no levels. You just keep shooting the same things over and over. Oh you do win lives, but after winning 9 it appears can't win any more, unless you loose one. After about 45 minutes of play and racking up over 400,00 points I got really bored. I was hoping I would die but with 9 lives and very little effort required to win those lives, I finally had to commit suicide and boy, was that a relief and frankly it was harder to loose a life then it was to win one. Go figure.

Game is pure junk. As soon as my sore shootin finger gets to feeling better, I'm deleting this crap.

Installs and works ok on XP + SP3.

Definite thumbs up - this is a mindless blaster in which you simply keep the mouse button down all the time for continuous fire and do you need it! The screen fills with a neverending supply of targets, explosions and bonuses with very little variation in the gameplay but who cares. Extra life bonuses are very common and so it's virtually endless gameplay.

A great way to fill any spare minutes without needing to stir your grey matter.
