Every second counts in this breathtaking paranormal adventure!

It is 2074. Astronomers from around the world are watching an asteroid crash into the surface of Mars leaving a huge crater. Clouds of dust and vapor hide the surface of the planet for several long months. Communication with all Martian research stations is lost. When the clouds clear away, people send new spaceships to the Red planet. The spaceships send back shocking news. Hundreds of plants producing arms have been set up on the maimed surface of Mars. Thousands of machines stock the mineral deposits that had been brought to the surface by the massive explosion. A huge geothermal unit is running in the Center of the crater. Its energy creates a protection shield that extends beyond the planet's atmosphere.

Stephen, I don't think that mcbarker is referring to the game giveaway but to the trainer (http://www.cheathappens.com/16153-PC-Incinerate_cheats).
Avast AV doesn't have a problem with this file but Comodo Firewall won't let me open it, even in sandbox.

The sad thing is, I've done all that and everything is up to date. I do frequent virus and malware and spyware checks and everything comes back clean. :/

All I get is a black screen when I try to play it. This isn't the first time as I've always been getting black screens from each game I download from here, at least since last month.

...............................Moderator Comment.............................

check the FAQ's I've linked to in the problems section of my review. There's a section covering black screens. sometimes it has to do with your screen resolution, or maybe you need to update your graphic drivers.

You'll find the FAQ's via the following link:

The section on Black Screen says the folllowing:

Black Screen

If you are getting the black screen problem (possibly with an error message in a blue box that says “frequency out of Range”)it usually points to a screen resolution problem. Thst is the resolution you have your screen set to may not be supported by the game; or it could be the refresh rate that is the problem.

Try setting your screen resolution temporarily to a different setting and see if that cures the problem. If that doesn't work right click on the games executable and select 'properties', then click on the compatibility mode and select the disable visual themes. This should fix the problem, if not try disabling the display scaling on higher dpi settings and disabling the desktop composition. You can also try compatibility modes for XP, especially if the game is quite old.

Other fixes include installing the latest direct X (remember that XP uses DX 9 or earlier only, Vista uses DX 10 or before and Win 7 DX11 or before). Also try updating your graphics drivers. The main two chip manufacturers are NVIDIA and ATI (now AMD) both of which offer driver downloads for free. Just go to the respective manufactures home pages and you'll find a link to the driver download page. To find out which graphic card or graphics chip your computer uses type in Dxdiag in the search field (Vista or Win 7) or the run command (XP); this opens up the DirectX diagnostics panel. click on the display tab and look to the left panel. You should easily see what graphics card or chip you are using. (This is required information when selecting the correct download from the developers site).

This is a fun old-school scrolling shooter in the best 2D Arcade style. It runs very smoothly and, as far as i can tell, it's totally glitch free ... glitch free ... glitch free

Norton reports that the trainer is a trojan/virus, and deletes it automatically. It may be a false positive, but it's not worth taking the chance.

............................Moderator Comment............................

I've always avoided the trainers after getting malware from one. I used to use those programs that enabled you to play a game that usually required a disc to play, but allwed you to play without the disc. The site I got them from also had loads of trainers. witp

Yes this old fave is a progressively more difficult one. As you improve the store add-ons will help bit more. Ok Win 8.1 x64 Pro. Happy Spring, good season for rabbits to enjoy.

I will be streaming todays giveaway today at 10PM GMT+1. I guess it will be about an hour for this game after which I will continue my regular stream. Chat will be available. This stream is in no way affiliated with either Giveawayoftheday.com or Star Ashes. You can tune in at http://www.twitch.tv/mavadelo. For those interested, I will be streaming Train Simulator 2015 after the GGOTD.

Hi Stephen,

You might want to include .....removed due to unsafe site................ They're another excellent site for free full version games!

...............................Moderator comment..............................

I cannot recommend the site. I downloaded one of their games read all of their stuff about installation. They said they don't add anything unless they are given permission. I unchecked or refused all offers yet my home page has been changed to Dregol and every time i open up either my Firefox or Google Chrome browser I get a pop up (despite my security) that asks if I want to download something to improve my PC's speed. There's no way to cancel this out. when I click on close or no, I get a second browser opening to the site they are asking me to download from even though I said no.

I like games like this and this one is pretty good. I spent a couple of hours playing it. Blow up everything you can and pick up the white gears that show up. The game is divided into several stages for each level. After each stage you can visit the supply shop and spend your gears for repairs and more ammo and also upgrade your weapons. The game does get progressively harder but I think that is the fun of the game to see if you can get farther the next time. I only bought a couple of the weapon upgrades and I didn't really notice much difference. Thanks GGOTD!

This is one of the best games of this genre ever offered on ggotd. The only drawback, if you want to call it that, is it's not close to unlimited. But, it's easy for most ages and has its challenges. Definitely worth the regular price.

Thanks Stars Ashes, Whiterabbit and ggotd for making this available again.

I got this game when it was first given away in 2009. It kept me completely engrossed and I played it until I finally beat it. It's reminiscent of the older arcade video games, and if you like this type of game, it will keep you busy for many hours. I lost it when I upgraded computers, and will be getting it today. Thanks.

............................Moderator Comment..........................

There are loads of these available on Steam and desura now. There was a few years where none were created, then a few years ago, they became popular again. Some of the Japanese ones are amazing. Glad you enjoyed this one. :)

Hi white rabbit
there seems to be pictures from the farm frenzy series in your review of this shooting game.
Not exactly sure why.
thought you'd like to know :-)

Ah yes, from the games section. I had to go to the airport this morning, didn't have time to proof the review before posting. :)

One of my favourite PC games... I am not a games addict by any stretch of the imagination... but I do like match 3 and Shmups like this.
A couple of questions - Does it work on Windows 8.1 - I don't want to load it up and then find it has messed my machine up ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and secondly was there ever a follow up to this game?

............................Moderator Comment..........................

Hi Dave, it works fine on my 8.1 system :)

Agree, there are a lot of addicting games at MyPlayCity. Today's offer is one of them. However, the giveaway is ad free, but the ads aren't disturbing or annoying in any way. Nice site, even I prefere the giveaway. Incinerate is easy to play - just with the mouse. You have to be fast and stay focused - OR they'll get you/take you out - so to speak. Thanks a lot To StarAshes, GOTD-Team and Whiterabbit for introducing and keeping this spot alive. Cheers from Denmark.

Thanks, glad you like it. :)

In Brief:

Today's game is a typical level based vertical scrolling planet shmup . Unlike many shooters of this type you are able to move your ship anywhere on the playing arena. There are several power ups such as rockets and repair droids that appear when you've destroyed enemy ships, vehicles and buildings that enhance your game play.

The Incinerate zip file once downloaded should be 47.1Mb in size and when installed to the default path mentioned below is 72.1Mb. The zip file is several megabytes larger than the last time it was given away, but this is because of the new security setup.

Installation is a breeze; the unzipped setup file installs Incinerate to the following path:

Once installed you can delete the wrapped setup file (for those that are new to the giveaway project that's the orange colored file with a key symbol on the icon; you can also delete the Setup.gcd security file and the read me document.

There is no desktop icon created during installation so you will have to create your own via the above path or via whichever path you chose for yourself. If you also want a start menu shortcut you will have to go into Documents and Settings which is found in the root directory (C:\).

i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\name\Start Menu\Programs\ (XP) or C:\Users\(User-Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ (Win 7 and Vista)

where 'name' equals administrator, or whatever name you use for your account. Just create a new folder within the program folder and add a shortcut from the games executable file. (right click and select create shortcut then copy that to the folder you've just created - you can also use the same shortcut and copy it to the desktop or select send to desktop {create shortcut}).

Apart from the increase in size due to the new security setup file, the size of the downloaded file and the installed game are both different to previous year's but the versions seem to be the same.

The game should work on all iterations of Windows. ;-)

Incinerate was originally given away June 2009 and received lots of positive comments and out of 497 votes received a 54% positive vote, then again February 2010 where it received a positive 58% out of 355 votes. In 2011 it was given away twice (Feb 2011) where it received a positive 69% of the votes from a total of 299, and August 2011 where it received a positive 68% of 281 votes. Last year it was also given away twice (April 2012) where it received 69% of the votes out of a total of 320 and Oct 2012 where it received 60% of 321 votes; finally, it was also given away last summer (July 6th 2013) where it received 62% positive votes from 280 votes.

There's plenty of opportunity to see what the community though about this game from the couple of hundred comments that you'll find from June 2009 HERE (77 comments), Feb 2010 HERE (48 comments), Feb 2011 HERE (49 comments) and HERE (34 comments) Aug 2011, April 2012 HERE (43 comments), Oct 2012 HERE and finally last year HERE.

The Game:

Today's game is a vertical scrolling shmup (space shoot'em up), with a small ship that you control with the mouse. The left and right mouse buttons select primary and secondary weapons. You can move the ship anywhere on the playing arena, avoiding buildings and other objects. You can destroy buildings, objects and enemy ships before they destroy you. Crashing into buildings and ships destroys your shields, but you can do this occasionally. You can pick up extra power ups once buildings have been destroyed. Repair droids will repair any damage caused by enemy fire or by crashing into buildings. On the way you have plenty of opportunity to pick up a variety of power ups that you can also purchase from supply depots that you'll find shortly after starting a new level. You just have to fly your ship over the symbol that denotes the supply station. The supply depots contain several items such as rockets, armour, magazines for your guns as well as various upgrades such as your weapons and shields. You primary weapon requires magazines and the secondary weapon, which is fired using the right mouse button requires rockets. Occasionally in game you will also come across branching routes. This aspect of the game gives some re-playability to the overall game, though choosing either route doesn't look much different. :) . Provided you have completed a checkpoint, you can return to the beginning of a checkpoint by clicking on the continue button. Otherwise you'll start a new game from the beginning.

Video & Images:

You can see a 5min 45sec video of game play HERE

You can also see loads of screen captures HERE as a slideshow or all on one page HERE where you can then select individual images to look at.

2 2 Incinerate Ingame005

The main menu gives you access to an options menu that allows you to change screen resolutions, starting from 640 x 480 x 16 to 1600 x 1200 x 32. You can toggle between full screen and windowed mode plus change the lighting from normal to advanced, though I haven't checked what the difference between the two settings is okay, and finally there's a sound and music slider for adjusting the volumes. The help menu is rather basic, with nothing more than the story line and an image of the various power ups available. There's nothing about how to play the game either.

On starting the game a page opens up that allows you to create a new profile. You can set up more than one profile if you wish. Once this is done, a level map appears. I'm not sure if you can re select previous levels as I only played the one level (left it too late to play an extended game earlier this morning). Once in game you can see several symbols around the periphery of the playing area. These give information telling you how many rockets or magazines you have as well as informing you about the state of your shields.

2 4 Incinerate Ingame007

I was only able to play the demo which consisted of six levels so cannot describe the later parts of this game I thought the construction of the game was quite well made and the difficulty was good enough to create a reasonably decent game, that I would say is worth a good 6 out of 10; though, that said there are many 'shmup's' out there and overall I think this one is an average shooter. The above images and game play video should give you a good idea of the game.

You can find a trainer for Incinerate play HERE that gives you unlimited health, guns, rockets and money.

I've listed loads of related games below (all with hyperlinks). some are full price, others on excellent deals and even some that are free for example Moonbase Alpha and Moon Breakers. you'll also find a thread in the Game Discussion forums dealing specifically with shmups which you can find HERE

If you have any problems installing or getting to work today's game please go HERE for help. I've posted all of the common problems and solutions in a FAQ thread, which you can find in the sticky section of the forums by following the above link.

In response to the following problem that some users experienced when this game was given away previously, i.e. w.r.t. Netbooks and problems with resolution, Markus posted a possible fix via registry editing. He said the following:

"If you install the latest Intel GFX driver and
1) Run regedit2) Search and modify all values “Display1_DownScalingSupported” from “0″ to “1″3) Restart the system
New resolution 1024×768 will be available then.#"

If you are posting late in the day I would also suggest posting in the main giveaway forums, in the game discussion section because I cannot moderate 24hrs a day over the weekend. I've created a thread HERE for that purpose. If you've installed the game but it won’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at another time. Unfortunately if your problem is actually installing it then once the giveaway period is over there’s nothing that can be done until the game is given away again (though that isn't guaranteed). Sometimes you can still register the game after the giveaway has ended so long as you managed to start the download before the giveaway ends. I've tested this and the grace period lasts for up to 1 hour.

It’s always worth checking out the free games sites because sometimes the games we get here are also available for free from them. MyPlayCity (MPC) has the most with over 1000 games to choose from. Other sites include Gametop and FreeGamePick. You'll find hundreds of match three games between these sites.

If you do download any other games from MyPlayCity, Gametop or the other free game sites 'do' watch out for toolbars etc. Make sure you un-check the check-boxes during installation, and, in the case of MyPlayCity, every time you boot the game up, (this may have changed now as these free game sites tend to change the format frequently. .. I've posted links to all of the common free game sites below in the games, games games section. :)
For now I won't be recommending you download games from Jenkat Games. They have changed the way you get games from their site. Diane has posted information about this over in the game discussion forums. If I have time or remember, I'll link to it.

You can download and play over 200 time management games from MyPlaycity HERE including todays game HERE.
You will need to uncheck boxes for toolbar and home page changes during installation.

Games, Games, and yet more Games plus Download, Installation & Game play Problems:

There are 376 games on sale over on Steam this week, ranging from 10% to 90% off. There's also a Sega sale this week with up to 75% off publishers prices. You can find a full list of all sale items HERE.

Gamersgate Summer Sale
GOG (DRM free games)
GameFly (soon to be sold off)

To be honest there are too many game deals around too list them all. Just visit the sites I recommend above and I'm sure you'll find something that suits you for a very decent price. If like me you prefer Steamworks games, many of the above sites also sell steamwork games.

If that's not enough, check out the Game Discussion forums HERE for details of other games either free or on deals such as the Indie Game bundles (there's over 20 of them - If you purchased all of them you'd be paying around $80 for around a thousand dollars worth of games); or check out the four day sales at IndieGameStand. you'll find the indie bundles thread HERE. The thread is outdated, but all of the links will still take you to the latest bundles.

The latest IndieGameStand game is Wrack

Introducing the arcade shooter - Wrack! Combo your way to victory in this addictive single-player adventure. The goal of Obulis is to drop all of the colored spheres into their like-colored pots. Spheres are connected to the playfield using chains and ropes and the player must cut these constraints to put the spheres and the level in motion by the forces of gravity and physical interaction. The controls are extremely simple and intuitive. Obulis can literally be learned in seconds, but the puzzles will keep you thinking for hours.

- Over 150 Levels
- Over a Dozen Interesting Themes
- Breathtaking Graphics and Music
- Spectacular Physics and Special Effects
- Unlock 17 Achievements Found Within the Game
You can get two keys if you pay more than the average of $1.00 (at the time of writing); one key to share with a friend or family member perhaps?. You'll find that deal HERE. They also have four bundles of several games that'll cost you less than $1.50 each HERE (DIG Bundles 23, 24, Rebundle 6 and Desura 3). You get Steam keys for all of these games (apart from the Desura bundle). The single game deal ends Midnight tonight (GMT) and will be replaced with Tank Universal.

Most of the other bundles retail for around $5 give or take a few dollars (apart from the Daily Indie bundles that only cost $1.49 for six games), but you can pay as little as a dollar for some.
The free game from Origin has changed to the original Syndicate from 1993. It's been optimised for todays computers. Well worth getting, especially if you are into classic games from the 1990's Check it out HERE

You can get today's game giveaway free 24/7 from Gametop HERE. Remember to watch out for toolbar installations and home page hijacks via check boxes during the games installation.

There are hundreds of space themed games available, many of which are free. They are amongst my favourite genres. The following two links will take you to threads that have links to loads of free space shooters and strategy games, then I've included a couple of sites that giveaway commercial games, after that I've listed several games I own that I can honestly say are excellent time wasters which you may consider buying - all are bargain bin games by now, then a link to a brilliant commercial site that has gathered older DVD/CD based games and removed the DRM from them and now you can download the games, ranging from a few hundred Mb, to upwards of 4Gb in size. (So you'll need a broadband connection to download them) :)

The first one is the Space Shoot 'Em ups or Shmup's: A longish list of FREE games, where you'll find a massive list of Freeware, abandonware and even a long list of browser based space orientated games. I highly recommend the following one from that thread: Fraxy, Universal Combat, Realms, and Chalk . Unfortunately I've not kept the list up to date of late, so there are actually loads more free games that are space related which you can find via the Games Synopsis HERE. I'm sure you have lots to check out now. :) I hope you find something of interest. I would certainly consider buying Freespace 2 and/or Darkstar One from Good Old Games (GOG) or DotEMU, both are 3D space simulators, with amazing graphics and a real feel for being in an imaginary space shooter. I've listed several very good space orientated games at the end of the review. The X3 series of games are some of the most realistic space games I've ever played together with the online game Shattered Horizon. You'll find the Free Games synopsis HERE

There's also several free Shmup's (Shmup's = Space Shoot 'Em Ups) available from Gametop, MyPlayCity (Where you'll find Star Defender2, Orbital destruction, Astro Avenger 1 & 2 plus loads more good quality Shmups; so if you missed those that were given away previously you can now get them free 24/7 ) You'll also find a few over at FreeGamePick, but the last time I downloaded anything from freeGamePick they had become more aggressive w.r.t. toolbars and in some cases forcing you to change your home page before you could play their games.

You'll find Arial Fire, Air Shark, Air shark 2, Forbidden Galaxy, Forbidden Galaxy 2, plus many more that are linked to via the Shmup's link I've posted above. all the games from these two sites are commercial quality games that are given away free through sponsorship. When installing these games you do need to watch your installation as some of the games do ask if you want toolbars installed or even to change your home page, however, these can be avoided simply by making sure the boxes that show up during installation are unchecked. All the games from these two sites do open up your browser when you close the game down, but there's nothing untoward about it. you are always taken to the sites home page where you can check to see if there are more games. Once you close the page, that's it.

Finally I'll list a few really good DVD based and/or digital downloads for space shooters/strategy games that aren't free and can cost cost anywhere between $a few dollars to $50. I've got most of the games listed below apart from the most recent releases and IMO think that all of the games are excellent. If you love anything to do with space you'll probably love most of these games. All of them are available via steam, GOG, Gamersgate, Desura as well as others such as Gamefly and GreenMan Gaming (plus others) or as a DVD from places like Gamestop, Amazon, EBay or Game UK.

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you’ve checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.
