As you know, sheep are an important part of the kingdom's economy!

It is 2074.

Astronomers from around the world are watching an asteroid crash into the surface of Mars leaving a huge crater. Clouds of dust and vapor hide the surface of the planet for several long months. Communication with all Martian research stations is lost. When the clouds clear away, people send new spaceships to the Red planet.

The spaceships send back shocking news. Hundreds of plants producing arms have been set up on the maimed surface of Mars. Thousands of machines stock the mineral deposits that had been brought to the surface by the massive explosion.

A huge geothermal unit is running in the Center of the crater. Its energy creates a protection shield that extends beyond the planet’s atmosphere.

The objective of the unknown aliens is absolutely clear: they’re building an army to conquer the Earth! So people are sending a small spaceship to the Red planet with one mission: blow up the shield generator so they can launch missile attacks from the orbit.

The spaceship will have to land in an isolated area, and then try to infiltrate into the alien conspiracy.

You are the commander of the spaceship, and the fate of the Earth is in your hands!

I remember seeing Incinerate on the Star Ashes website a long while ago, and instantly wanted to be able to play it. Yesterday I was very happy to be able to play a few levels of it, but I deleted it thinking I had already moved it to my flash drive. :(
Oh well, still a fun game.

Can someone tell me which version this game is. It's very frustrating but enjoyable. However I'm looking for a trainer that works with this version.

...................Moderator Comment..................

it's unlikely anyone will read your comments as the comments section for previous giveaways are not readily available for the community to see. you'd be better requesting help via the forums. I really don't know which version we got. Usually it will tell tyou on the opening screen, otherwise I'd assume it's version 1.0.0. I'm not aware that there are any trainers for this game. Try GameCopyworld, they have a good collection of trainers. :)

Had a sound error on Vista, tried it on XP, XP reloaded it using "recommended settings" and it worked fine. Fun game but not my type, if you like shooters go for it.

WOW! Lots of fun - great graphics, fun music and sound effects, runs well...reminds me of Zaxxon, an old favorite. Definitely a winner!!

One comment - I can't seem to buy anything in the supply depot. I'm sure it's idjit-proof and easy to do, but when I push on "buy" or "repair", nothing seems to happen even though I have enough funds. It's likely me, but I thought I'd say something.

Thank you very much - I'll look 'out there' for something of this company's to buy, because it looks like it's worth my money.

Peace and Long Life,

I downloaded it & could not find an uninstaller anywhere in the download so, I manually Uninstalled the software. I do not Trust software that does not have a uninstaller. Did you find the uninstaller for this?

..............................Moderator Comment.........................

As indicated in previous posts there is no uninstaller with this game; it is a free standing executable that can be manually deleted with no files left once deleted. Surely uninstallers are no necesary and only add to the blotness of software today. Using free uninstallers may be useful in some cases, but this particular game does not install files in various places on your computer. If you don't trust such software don't download and install it; that said, the game giveaway team throughly test all software for malware and you can rest assured that your computer will be safe if you've inatalled this game.

Great game! Downloaded/installed on my Windows 7-64 with no problems. The game is entertaining enough that boredome will not set in for quite some time. Difficult enough to keep you going, but simple enough to keep you going.
Many thanks to the Give away team and Stars Ashes for this game.

I liked this one. It kinda gave me a feeling of nostalgia. Now I find myself wanting to play the old 8 and 16 bit games I was raised on. I especially liked this ones upgrade system. I am still trying to figure out who would give this one a negative review. I mean, it was short with a weak story, but so were most of the games like this back when this format was popular. Besides, you got it for free! What kind of complaint could you have after that?
Having said that, the $9.95 price tag they put on it is the absolute max I would pay for this type of game.

Downloaded and installed no problem, a quick line-up/linkage queue of a split screen in ztree from c:\games\mydir to c:\documents and settings\user\desktop, hit h and a new icon lives on the desktop.

I love this game. This company seems pretty consistent with the quality of their games.

Awesome GGOTD. Glad I didn't miss it.

Is anyone else having trouble running the game?? I downloaded this game on my home computer the last time it was up and I loved it. I was so happy to see it up again so I could put it on my laptop but my screen just goes blank (and stays blank until I hit "esc") and I get a bunch of error pop ups. I restarted my laptop, same thing. Is anyone else having this same problem?? Any idea how to fix??
Thanks.

What were the error pop ups? It would be useful to know. In the meantime try updating your graphics drivers and your Direct X. (just allow microsoft to update); alternatively you could try the version from Gametop. See comments above re: Gametop.

Thank you for your response.
I have directx 10. What do I need to upgrade it too.

It's the same configuration my other computer was and it worked on that.

...............................Moderator Comment...............................

Hi John, I presume you are running Vista? You need the latest version of DX10 which you can get from Microsoft. You just need to allow Windows to update your direct X to whatever version is the latest. :) Though the fault appears to be with an older version of Direct X (DX 8), which is several years old now. If that doesn't work download a copy of Direct X 8. Installing it wont interfere with your DX10. Just Google the name for a download link.

Thanks GOTD for another game on the weeekend. Good reviews from commentator's, as always I read them before download. I guess that you have to like space-shooting games to appreciate this game. Graphics are good and moving the Ship is a "Plus" no doubt, that is clever. For me, I will try the playing the game to find why these games are popular. Paddles, marbles, solitare and Mahjong are my addiction Maybe my slow DSL(dry) download is an issue. I flew over the "white" symbols and my score did not increase, also the Supply Station did not add armour or ammunition to my ship. This has me more puzzled than playing the game, but then again I can play solitare for 30 minutes and be amused. Again GOTD thanks for a great site.

Sorry for the delay..... You need to update your Direct X. You can get this free from Microsoft; alternatively, allow Microsoft to automatically update your computer. I'd also update your graphics drivers at the same time. If you're not sure how to do these things, please post in the forums. I'll reply in the morning, or sometime tomorrow. :)

Can't get it to work. Installed without issue but when I launch the game I get a blank screen and nothing happens. I hit escape then there is a beep and it goes back to the exe. icon.
Try it multiple times. Deleted it. Reinstalled. Same problem. I used to have this game on another computer and was anxious to play it again.

From what I see after watching winrar go through all the files of this program & showing them all as being the same identical files to the 2009 ones, there's absolutely nothing at all any different between this version and the 2009 version. In fact a number of the files were last modified in 2005.

Absolutely every single file in todays giveaway was identical to the files in the 2009 giveaway.

Regarding #12: The YouTube link (for a video of the game) goes to an account that's been banned for copyright violation.

On a more positive note, this looks like a promising game. Once my wife's off our main computer, I'll be giving this a try.

I trembled with worry, anxiety started to take over as I shifted from screen to screen in anticipation. I really thought I might not be able to make it...then WhiteRabbit posted and I knew he was okay! LOL

The game installed smoothly; just as virtually every game/download with GOTD. Although the graphics were not the best ever (after all we are talking about a $9.99 game not a $99.99 game) they were very pleasant in my opinion and I found that on my Pent D, 2g Ram it ran very well with little (if any) snag or pause. The controls are easy to adjust to and all close enough that I believe that any age/size/sex could play without any problems. The sound was about what I expected out of this type of game and in this dollar range.

All in all; stop reading my review and go read WhiteRabbit's! It is spot on and more conclusive than mine! If you are in need of a good space blasting time wasting game... download now! Thumbs up here!

When I proceeded to install the game, with over 16 hours remaining to do so, I receive an error message that the serial number cannot be decrypted...not my idea of a fun time after a 30+ MB download.

................................Moderator comment.......................

From the way you've written the above I'm presuming you are on dial up as otherwise the game would have downloaded in less than a minute with a decent broadand connection.

1).....either the download has become corrupted in some way, so you will need to re-download the file; this is more likely to happen with slow downloads and especially if you're using a telephone line as opposed to fibre optics

2)....reboot your modem and/or router

3)....delete the giveaway cookie from your internet temps folder.

If none of the above work try using the version from Gametop

Downloaded and installed just fine. Set up was fast and easy as usual and the game runs rather well on my not so new Windows 7 laptop with dedicated graphics (256mb) from ATI.

It's a fun game, I like these little time wasters. The graphics are decent and sound quality is OK.

It does "lag" a bit, but I doubt it's because of my PC. It feels more like the game struggles at times producing enemy vehicles and drawing them all on the screen. If I have time later, I'll download this on my gaming rig and see if it's any better then.

The only thing I wish they'd do is add support for 1280x800 screen resolutions.

6/10 from me, a fun game worth downloading.

ok I did something today I don't usually do. I actually downloaded and played a game on GGOTD before reading Whiterabbits review:) When I first logged on this morning there was no review(not WR fault), but I went ahead and gave it a try. I know I was taking a big risk but decided to be brave and get it anyway. After installing the game and playing it a little I decided to come back to the site and there was WR's review. It's a decent game, though games like this tend to be a little repetitious. I like how you can purchase upgrades or repair your ship between levels. Makes it more of an incentive to get more points rather than just randomly blowing stuff up.

............................Moderator comment........................

Thanks for your review. Yeah, i only discovered there was a giveaway about an hour ago. Thankfully I'd already written a review for this game. I agree with you on the repetitivness, but it's still a reasonable shooter. Well worth downloading if you don't already have it. :)

Installed on Windows XP pro SP3 with NO issues at all! Runs great. really like that I can move my ship ahead and back instead of just side to side. graphics are great, sound is perfect. Just spent 2 hours playing with this with my kids. the sound effects are the best! Im using a 200 watt sound system with sub-woofer on my system and I dont think my tenants down stairs knew what was going on this morning.lol

Sorry, wasn't notified aboout a game this weekend, hence the very late review. Only discovered a game had been posted six hours into the giveaway. The game has been given away at least twice previously.; the last time about a year ago....... here's my review from that time. I've edited some minor errors, otherwise the review is basically the same as previously.

Today's game is a 33.5Mb download with an installed size of 73.3Mb. Installation is a breeze; the unzipped activation/setup file installs to the following path:

C:\Games

There is no desktop icon created so you will have to create your own. If you want a start menu shortcut you will have to go into Documents and Settings which is found in the root directory (C:\).

i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\name\Start Menu\Programs\

where 'name' equals administrator, or whatever name you use for your account. Just create a new folder within the program folder and add a shortcut from the games executable file. (right click and select create shortcut then copy that to the folder you've just created - you can also use the same shortcut and copy it to the desktop or select send to desktop {create shortcut}).

The size of the downloaded file and the installed game are both different to last years files, so this could have been updated, but i've not got the time to check until later tonight. The game works on win XP Pro 32bit, Vista Home Premium 64bit and Win 7 Pro and Ultimate 64bit. (Not tested on other iterations of windows). Images are not showing again, but I have uploaded all screen captures taken to my photobucket account, which you can see below in the images section. ;-)

Today’s game is a vertical scrolling shmup (space shoot’em up), with a small ship that you control with the mouse. The left and right mouse buttons select primary and secondary weapons. You can move the ship anywhere on the playing arena, avoiding buildings and other objects. You can destroy buildings, objects and enemy ships before they destroy you. Crashing into buildings and ships destroys your shields, but you can do this occasionally. You can pick up extra power ups once buildings have been destroyed. Repair droids will repair any damage caused by enemy fire or by crashing into buildings. On the way you have plenty of opportunity to pick up a variety of power ups that you can also purchase from supply depots that you’ll find shortly after starting a new level. You just have to fly your ship over the symbol that denotes the supply station. The supply depots contain several items such as rockets, armor, magazines for your guns as well as various upgrades such as your weapons and shields. You primary weapon requires magazines and the secondary weapon, which is fired using the right mouse button requires rockets. Occasionally in game you will also come across branching routes. This aspect of the game gives some re-playability to the overall game, though choosing either route doesn't look much different. :) . Provided you have completed a checkpoint, you can return to the beginning of a checkpoint by clicking on the continue button. Otherwise you'll start a new game from the beginning.

The main menu gives you access to an options menu that allows you to change screen resolutions, starting from 640 x 480 x 16 to 1600 x 1200 x 32. You can toggle between full screen and windowed mode plus change the lighting from normal to advanced, though I haven't checked what the difference between the two settings is okay, and finally there’s a sound and music slider for adjusting the volumes. The help menu is rather basic, with nothing more than the story line and an image of the various power ups available. There’s nothing about how to play the game either.

On starting the game a page opens up that allows you to create a new profile. You can set up more than one profile if you wish. Once this is done, a level map appears. I’m not sure if you can re select previous levels as I only played the one level (left it too late to play an extended game earlier this morning). Once in game you can see several symbols around the periphery of the playing area. These give information telling you how many rockets or magazines you have as well as informing you about the state of your shields.

PicDepict.com

Conclusion

I was only able to play the demo which consisted of six levels so cannot describe the later parts of this game I thought the construction of the game was quite well made and the difficulty was good enough to create a reasonably decent game, that I would say is worth a good 6 out of 10; though, that said there are many ‘shmup’s’ out there and overall I think this one is an average shooter. The above images and game play video should give you a good idea of the game.

There's hundreds of space themed games available, many of which are free. They are amongst my favorite genres. The following two links will take you to threads that have links to loads of free space shooters and strategy games, then I've included a couple of sites that giveaway commercial games, after that I've listed several games I own that I can honestly say are excellent time wasters which you may consider buying - all are bargain bin games by now, then a link to a brilliant commercial site that has gathered older DVD/CD based games and removed the DRM from them and now you can download the games, ranging from a few hundred Mb, to upwards of 4Gb in size. (So you'll need a broadband connection to download them) :)

The first one is the Space Shoot 'Em ups or Shmup's: A longish list of FREE games, where you'll find a massive list of Freeware, abandonware and even a long list of browser based space orientated games. I highly recommend the following one from that thread: Fraxy, Universal Combat, Realms, and Chalk . There's more, but I'm sure you have lots to check out now. :) I hope you find something of interest. I would certainly consider buying Freespace 2 and/or Darkstar One from Good Old Games (GOG), both are 3D space simulators, with amazing graphics and a real feel for being in an imaginary space shooter. I’ve listed several very good space orientated games at the end of the review. The X3 series of games are some of the most realistic space games I’ve ever played together with the online game Shattered Horizon.

A longish list of Shmup’s:

I've not kept the list up to date of late, so there are actually loads more free games that are space related which you can find via the Games Synopsis:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/4534

There's also several free Shmup's (Shmup's = Space Shoot 'Em Ups) available from Gametop and FreeGamesPIck:

http://www.gametop.com

and

http://www.freegamepick.com/en/games_download.html

You'll find Arial Fire, Air Shark, Air shark 2, Forbidden Galaxy, Forbidden Galaxy 2, plus many more that are linked to via the Shmup's link I've posted above. all the games from these two sites are commercial quality games that are given away free through sponsorship. When installing these games you do need to watch your installation as some of the games do ask if you want toolbars installed or even to change your home page, however, these can be avoided simply by making sure the boxes that show up during installation are unchecked. All the games from these two sites do open up your browser when you close the game down, but there's nothing untowards about it. you are always taken to the sites home page where you can check to see if there are more games. Once you close the page, that's it.

Finally I'll list a few really good DVD based space shooters/strategy games that aren’t free and can cost cost anywhere between $10 to $50. Apart from Galcon Fusion which was only released yesterday (Friday 12th Feb) I’ve got every one of the games listed below and IMO think that all of the games are excellent. If you love anything to do with space you’ll probably love most of these games. All of them are available via steam or as a DVD.

Genesis Rising …………………. Strategy

Mass Effect and Mass Effect II …..released last week - FPS/RPG

Spaceforce: Rougue Universe .…Strategy/shooter

Sins of a Solar Empire …………. Strategy

Sword of the Stars …………..…..Strategy/shooter

Light of Altair ……………...……Strategy

X3: Terran Conflict ………...……IMO a brilliant game

X3: Reunion ………………..……expansion to the above game

Shattered Horizon …….…….….First Person Shooter set on and around the shattered remains of the moon and the international space station – amazing visuals – soon to be updated with four new maps - online only and requires Vista or Win 7 - XP not supported

Galcon Fusion …………………..Just released - a gorgeously rendered in psuudo retro style arcade strategy shmup

Gratuitous Space Battles ………………………….…strategy

Star Trek DAC ……………………………………....strategy shooter

AI War Fleet Command ……………………….…….strategy shooter

The following are available from Good Old Games for between $5.99 and $9.99

Earth 2040
Earth 2050
Freespace + Expansion
Freespace 2 (brilliant 3D space shooter)
Darkstar One (similar to Freespace 2)

You can find more SciFi based games from GOG as well:

I’ve posted more freeware links to space orientated games in the original comments for this game when it was given away in June 2009.

=================================================================================

I though this may have been an update because the file size and installed game sizes are different from the previous giveaway, but looking at the main menu, the game says it's version 1.0.0, so no update unfortunately. :(

Thanks Joe. I wasn't informed about todays giveaway. Thankfully I've already written a review previously. discovered the game about 6 hours after initial posting. :)

This is a really good game. It's fun to play and looks really good for a 2D shooter. I have to admit that I've found it really challenging so far. My only problem is that I'm playing on a laptop and in order to change your secondary weapon you have to use the scroll button, but my laptop doesn't have a scroll button. There doesn't appear to be any option in game to change the button configuration either.

Otherwise an excellent game and worth the money if you bought it in a shop!

I think this game was already on giveawayoftheday. I remember to play it. It was nice but I wonder if this is newer version.

see my comment below. This is possibly an update knowing the past history of this developer, who has updated several games previously.

this is free forever

Not necessarily free forever. Gametop pay the developer a yearly sum in exchange for giving the game away. plus the game does have hidden surprises such as opening your browser when you close the game down and the possibility of toolbars and home page hijacking. the gametop site also pushes popups down your throat, so make sure you have a pop up blocker installed and active. :) Other than those issues, gametop games are fine. I prefer to download these free games from MyPlaycCty now as they are cleaner. :)

I have been enjoying this game for while now. I finally reached the last chapter to settle for once and for all with that big bad boss invader! Must destroy! Take that. His tough.

Like other games from Stars Ashes, Incinerate is a real winner. It's fun to play, challenging, yet not too hard to use the controls.

The graphics are fun and innovative, like Sawoid (also from Stars Ashes) and the game-play action is pleasing to those of us who find most modern games too busy and complex.

If you like shooters, this one is easy to grasp and yet complex enough to prevent boredom from quickly setting in. The sound effects are zingy and it's hard to run out of ammo. I use a trackball and the game is very responsive to it.

Not bad scroll shooter. But I would prefer the graphics better and the animations smoother.

As usual, I recommend another scrolling shooter game from http://www.gamehitzone.com

Galaxy Invaders

Thanks Tom, I'd also check out all the other shooter games from Gametop and MyPlayCity . There are also loads of freeware versions to be found in the giveaway forums. check out the game synopsis, where you'll find 50 plus games of this genre, some of which are brilliant :)

Now that's a pleasant surprise. INCINERATE was the only game out of 4 from Stars Ashes, that I didn't have (unfortunately, last week's, Sawoid was a repeat to me, but repeats are always good. I'm still waiting patiently for the return of Phantasia 1, because when this was available, I knew nothing about the site).
