Ah, I just went to the PlayRix site to consider the purchase. The $3.99 number quoted by GGOTD is a lie. They want $19.99 for it. It is definitely NOT worth that price. PlayRix would do themselves a huge favor to just charge $3.99 each for their games rather than a huge number without buying a big package. They also make "Around the World in 80 Days" and the FishDom series which are great, but like many others, buying a big package of games is not a good deal in any way.

PlayRix, let us buy the individual games for smaller price tags and you'll get a lot more purchases. Whoever talked you into the 'package deal' form of marketing is cutting your throat.

I'm shocked that they are still selling games for that price. Most of the ig sellers have dropped their prices significantly. also Inca Ball can be dopwnloaded free from Gametop and MyPlayCity 24/7 as can Around the world in 80 days

I've had this game for two weeks now and, while occasionally frustrating, I keep going back to it. The colors, action and speed-up is good. It is not intuitive, and takes a bit of experimentation to learn how to do it well. Maybe that's the draw. Even after losing all of your "lives" it allows you to keep playing. That's nice. It's much better than ending a game, just when I think I may have found the trick. This is one that I'll keep, and more importantly to GGOTD and the developers, it is one that I would recommend spending a few dollars to buy the program. It is most definitely a solid buy for the $3.99 price.

As always, it really could use some more attention to the details regarding grammar and the quality of instruction, but it is running stable for me and is a positive, repeatable experience.

I enjoy this game but I think that when balls go under things or into tunnels that they come out the other end earlier than when they should. Some sort of spatial/time error?

Been enjoying this for several days now - very crisp, professional, and challenging! Nice graphics, and the gameplay is fast/addicting enough to keep me coming back. It's not for everyone - my daughter is afraid of the skull; maybe a future version could be aimed at a younger audience without the scary stuff. Definitely worth going out and buying - nice job, Playrix! Thanks!

Yay! I missed this giveaway last autumn and was bitterly disappointed, so I'm happy today. Playrix games have such quality visuals and audio, and always add some extras to the genre; so even if you don't usually care for match-3 type games, you should try this.

Thank you, GGOTD and Playrix!

Downloaded with a small issue that was cleared up with a restart. The game originally opened but I think it was sharing resources on flashplayer with another program and froze. After the restart I played to the 2nd level with no problems.

It has been a while since I played a zumba type of game and this was nicely set up to challenge yet leaving room for a player who is new to this style of gaming to enjoy and progress. The pay with points for special feature balls and extra lives is a nice touch.

I have paid more for games that were a waste of time so the price is not a problem.

Thank you to gamegiveaway, Playrix and to whiterabbit.

My only wish is that I would know if the developers looked at posts from a day or two after the offer. Weekends are not a good time for me to steal for a relaxing bit of gaming. I would love to give something a try then give a little real detail of issues that I had or fun and challenges that I found. What say you, our English friend, if I post comments on Tuesday for a game offered on Sunday will a developer hear the tree falling in the forest?

Love the game! Its nice and smooth, has good graphics, but not too flashy as opposed to games like Zuma, and Luxor. And that is a good thing because the only computer I own is a Acer Aspire One netbook so GGOTD allows me to try these games for free without having to purchase. I do want to purchase a CD version of this game eventually because of how good it ran.

A small bug I ran into was I had no more balls to shoot. The ball reserve area did not show anything neither did the thing where it shoots balls. Is this a program bug perhaps? I was so close to finishing level one, but this little quirk had me starting over from the beginning.

Inca Ball seems to be a great marble shooter that could stand up to Zuma and the like easily. While not overwhelming, it does offer a decent challenge from the start. The power-ups you receive while playing keep the game interesting and fast paced, and the items available for purchase are great for when the player's in need of a quick recovery. I also think it's a plus that the game gives you some points to spend right from the start.

However, at first glance, a potential buyer may see it as unoriginal. Even the setting is reminiscent of Zuma. That's not to say it's a bad game; the gameplay is great, the graphics are good, and the music and sound effects are fitting (and not aggravating, in my opinion). Also, the price tag is lower than similar games, which is definitely a plus.

One little thing that would be nice to add is the option to turn on (or off, for those who prefer it) black bars along the sides while in fullscreen, so that the game doesn't look stretched out on widescreen monitors. Of course, the game allows you to just window it, but it still would be a nice extra.

Anyway, thank you very much, GGAOTD and Playrix!

Thank you for yet again, another great game! I too had this game on a computer than has died and was hoping to get it again =). I have downloaded many of the games here and seldom am I disappointed. As for the developers, whether they realize it or not, giving away a game here that someone would otherwise have to pay for, can actually bring them business. I never thought I would ever pay (online) for a game, but noticing that several of the games here were from Playrix, I have since gone to that website and purchased a couple of their games and will do so again in the future. Thank you to GGOTD for hunting up games and thank you Whiterabbit for your always helpful information =).

I do not care for this type of game. This one is one of the best. I love Playrix and have bought several of their games...I know this comment is probably not very constructive, but since these bore me quickly there is not much to say. I like the game music and the graphics. I am keeping this on my hard drive for when I just want to kill a bit of time. I really enjoy rpg types of games and would love to know some good ones that are about 15 dollars or less would be nice!!

Thank you for giving this away again!! I am glad I tried it!

Well all IncaBall versions of the game that I have downloaded have the same problem for me. When I click to see how the bombball, chainbomb and rain etc items work. Its just a pixilated and distorted window. I dont know if its a video card setting or Nvidia or Ati issue.

.......................Moderator comment.........................

Hi Jorgen, have you tried updating your video drivers? If you're not sure how to do that please post a request in the forums. You will need to know what graphics card you have which can be found using free programs such as speccy. (Same developer that created CCleaner), you can also find out via the Dxdiag command. Just type dxdiag via the run command in XP (Start Menu) or in the search field in Vista or win 7. That opens up the DirectX diagnostics pane. You should be able to find which manufacturer your card belongs to, though I don't think it will tell you the model number. Speccy should do that.

Here's a link to the download page for speccy:

Inca Ball is, just like most Playrix stuff, a decent small game for a nice price. If I don't want to spend a lot of time with my regular games, this is a good alternative. For a short while, it keeps my attention, just like hidden object games.

Thanks again, GOTD. Happy Eastern.

Okay, the pause problem fixed itself. I was going to purchase this game and even pay the 9 bucks for it (because I don't want to buy the other games). I clicked on Paypal and the game site wants me to give all of my personal information BEFORE it takes me to Paypal. Why doesn't the site just transfer me to Paypal? Isn't that what Paypal was set up for - a smooth private transaction? Jeez!

Thank you GOTD and Playrix for giving this game away again. I had lost it in a crash and am very happy to have it back. Since last years Inca Ball giveaway I purchased several Playrix games and have never had a problem with any of them. The only thing about this game I would change is the ability to quit between levels without having to begin the next round, but it's really no biggie. Thanks again!

I now have this great game GiveAway of IncaBall installed on my laptop and am so pleased.

I do have one comment to make towards the game. I wish that you were able to go to the menu at ANY time during the game. For instance, I wanted to drop out of the game before I purchased the help objects in which to better play the game. I am not allowed to do this. I must make my purchase (or not) and then click on Play and let the game begin it's next level BEFORE I can choose to close the game down.

Thanks Playrix Entertainment and thanks GOTD!

Quick note about the .grp file: it's not compressed, and has a nested file table -- that is, the directory names are only specified once, and individual files nest within that directory.

You can change the music by supplying your own Ogg files. Make a directory called "Music" under the game's folder, and put your converted .ogg there. Name it menu.ogg to replace the menu music, and action2.ogg for the in-game music.

You get a nice screensaver (3D too!) when you finish the game. If you can't wait until then, copy and paste the following into a .reg file and run it:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sahmon Studio\Inca Ball\1.0]
GameFinished=dword:1
Then click on the Prize button in the game.

The .lbm files are packed XML files. I've sort of got the syntax down, but still have to look at it more.

.............................Moderator comment.............................

I was trying to keep the screensaver a surprise  lol Cest la vie.... Thanks for the info re changing the in game music. I'm sure some community members will find it useful.

I played this for a while and must say that I am very pleased with it! And the pricing is just right. The only reason I could see this not selling would be the game idea, I've stumbled upon it before and while this version is much better, I must say that the game type doesn't interest me very much.

While I crave to play games like Disciples: Sacred Lands, this just doesn't give me the same type of want-to-play-like-a-maniac feeling. There's lots of awesome power-ups that you can purchase in-game, but the gameplay is still pretty much the same. Level after level you perform the same task, whilst the same task getting harder. That's not the type of game that I can get addicted to and love.

If there was something new to this type of game, this could be very good. Such as online-multiplayer tournaments, changeable themes, more types of gameplay and a great story with cliffhangers.

Thank you for offering this game for free, even though I think it is very much worth the asked price. Thanks GGotD and Playrix!

Stephen;
You make a very valid point about our support being the driving force behind developers who are willing to give away their wares IF we provide feedback in return, and this part of your comment:
"I keep asking the community to help, and do get some response, but it only seems to last for a few weeks" struck me as most pertinent - why don't you open all your reviews this way, by having a boilerplate comment to this same effect, because it's your comment that most of us read first, so it might have more lasting effect. I actually scan the comments to see your posts for several reasons, besides reading the comments I look to see what input you add because it's usually valuable, or I would have missed this in today's comments, as it was halfway down...
Just sayin' - you want input, please ask for it, first and upfront. I do try many of the games here, and if I get it installed in time I'll try to add a succinct comment, but not sure if you'd also like what I'd have said about yesterday's game - Wheem games are sometimes confusing and get boring quickly, so I didn't bother - of course, that might be the opiates speaking! Seriously, are you interested in us adding that kind of input as well as what we say when we try the games? I think you probably know more about it than any of us, seeing as you are the Grand Poobah here - (snicker).

................Moderator Comment.........

that's a very good point which someone mentioned before. My memory is appalling these days because of the opiate meds I take, so I'd forgotten all about it. I may just try that idea out and see if it improves the situation. :)
Just sayin'...

Stephen, I agree with you about comments, but worse than the present situation would be comments from those who do NOT download the games.

Myself: I look at each game that comes up and decide whether it's my kind of game or not before downloading (or not!). Very often, it's not a genre that appeals to me. For example, I loathe match-3 (and also combat and 'god' games), so I'm not downloading Inca Ball. And it wouldn't be proper for me to make comments on it without at least trying it.

So while I agree it would be good if a higher proportion of people who download a game would comment afterwards, you need to remember the example of market research, where a response rate of 3% to 5% is the most you can reasonably expect. So for 1600 downloads, you'd be looking at 48 to 60 responses to be matching the likes of Ipsos MORI and co. :)

.............Mpoderator Comment................

I see what you are saying Cad, but it's in the communities interest to leave constructive comments. I'm sure this could become a forum for developers to test their wares. Theres a growing indie mvement with some very original games. This comments section would make a brilliant forum for them. Unfortunately the community comes no way near the response rate you quote. We are only getting between 0.2 to 0.4 % response from this community, which is significantly well below the rate you quote.

I was hoping that GOTD was going to give those of us who LIKE games an Easter surprise and it happened. Thanks Playrix, GOTD, Whiterabbit and commentators for, what I believe is a very good game. I own Zuma and I probably see that Frog in my dreams, but I have enjoyed playing that game for years. Inca has power-ups, which you can add with points, neither Zuma or Luxor #1 has and adds a nice extra to the game. All three games have power-ups within the chain of balls or by catching the bonus droppings. One of the things that has frustrated me on playing Zuma is when neither of the colored ball (either right or left click on mouse) is NEEDED to help win the game or use on the chain of balls, you have to wait until either color can be used. With Inca Ball I found that it had open space during every level to shoot off(discard) the current colored ball, to me this is a big PLUS. Obviously if there are three games, so similar on the market to purchase, these ball games has to have appeal. If you have never played either of these games, download and give it a try during the week.
Happy Easter to all who observe the holiday.

Downloaded and registered like a dream. (Playrix has never let me down). It's a ZUMA-type game, but a little more fast-paced. Challenging, but not frustratingly so. You'll want to keep trying.

Four dollars is more than fair for this bad puppy. Free is even tastier. I highly recommend downloading this.

Thanks and Happy Easter to GOTD, Playrix, Whiterabbit and all at this site!

"What would help IMO is if more community members bothered to write positive or negative comments that were useful and constructive."

I don't disagree but how can I realistically write a useful, thoughtful, and constructive comment if the comments are closed after the download period? I can certainly pen a "This game stinks!", "This game is GREAT!!", "I hate this type of game", or "Here are links to better games" but all I'm going to be able to do in time frame is download, install, see if the program runs and then decide if I'm going to immediately uninstall. I generally won't have time available to spend 2-3 hours playing the game and thus provide a thoughtful comment. Unless, of course, the gameplay stinks and I have links to better games.

The same holds true for the utility programs... unless I have an immediate need to, let's say, partition my hard drive then I can't really comment on Partition Magic's or Easeus' programs until weeks or months later when I use them. About all that I can say is "the download installed", "I don't like the interface", "Why didn't we get another, better version?", or "Here's a free alternative". And those aren't useful, thoughtful or constructive comments.

Sadly, I don't really have a solution for you. You obviously can't leave the comments open for months but perhaps a new "Constructive Program Comments" Forum could be created with a listing for each offered program.

.........................Moderator Comment.........................

The comments are open permanently. All you have to do is return to the particular game from the list on the game giveaway page then click on the comments. They are NOT closed, only the actual game giveaway is closed. So thpughful comments that give positive or negtive feedback can be made at any time for any game that you have downloaded.

This appears to be the same game from 30th August 2008 titled 'Mayan Maze' from the same game publisher. Perhaps there are improvements, but overall the same game. That's not a complaint, just an observation for anyone who may think, like I did, that they have seen it before. Great game in any case.

Good fun

The giveaway team are trying to get new games, but it's not easy at the moment. when you consider a decent arcade game will get around 16 000 downloads from this site, most developers are not going to give them away unless they got something in return. They do get a very small sum of money. what would help IMO is if more community members bothered to write positive or negative comments that were useful and constructive. Unfortunately only 0.2 to 0.4 of members bother to even say thank you let alone write a critique. Also some of the bigger game houses have their own versions of a game giveaway now thanks to the game giveaway project. good for us, but not good for the giveaway project.

I keep asking the community to help, and do get some response, but it only seems to last for a few weeks then it's back to normal, with very few constructive comments and little else. Of course, it's up to the community to sort this not me. I’m just trying o suggest how things may be improved. To be honest, I buy all of the games I really like. I’ve always believed that's the only way we are going to get better games by supporting the developer. I rarely keep the game giveaways as I purchase much better (IMO) games virtually on a daily basis.

I very much doubt things will ever get better simply because the community is not willing to give a sustained effort to improve the comments section. That's everyones perogative, i'm just trying to say it's up to you. (There are exceptions, but to be honest I don't see many names from a few years ago or from when the project first started in December 2006 {apart from myself} that used to comment regularily; everyones seems to disapper after a while.

I like this type of shooter game. As stated by WR, there are lots of special balls during game play, and the store is nice to stock up on extra lives or other goodies. The game installed and ran for me flawlessly. A very decent, professional game. Thanks, Playrix.

@Whiterabbit-uk (#1):
The different default install directories don't actually have anything to do with it being WinXP or Win7.

It's due to the fact that 32-bit applications default to installing under "c:\Program Files" on 32-bit versions of Windows and to installing under "c:\Program Files (x86)" on 64-bit versions of Windows.

I assume you didn't mention where it installed on Vista because it differed between the two Vista systems where you tried it; this is why it did that. You'd have gotten similar differing results if you had also tried it on 64-bit WinXP and 32-bit Win7.

In any case, thanks for the detailed review of the game.

Yes I know Jim. I post those paths for those less computer literate than myself or you., but you are right I should mention that. Opiate meds don't help , lol

Only played Zuma a few times and liked it. I actually, so far, like this game just as well. Thanks G_GAOTD for this Easter gift. Just finished playing a quicky before hitting the sack. :)

There were 4318 downloads from yesterdays game. Quite low on average, but then it was Easter weekend so many community members probably didn't get chance to download the game, which is a pity IMO. If you missed the game but still want to check the game out, just Google the game or check out 'online tributes' link to the free browser version of the game which he posted in yesterdays game comments. Yeahhhhh! images are back.

Inca Ball:

Download & Installation:

The downloaded zip file is 17.4Mb in size and unpacks to a read me and a dual activation and set up module. The game installs to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Playrix Entertainment\Inca Ball on Win 7

C:\Program Files\Playrix Entertainment\Inca Ball on XP

Shortcuts are installed to the desktop and Start Menu programs folder (including a shortcut to Playrixes home page) and you’ll also find an uninstall shortcut in the programs folder. Look for Playrix Entertainment in your Start Menu/Programs list. The installed game takes up 52.7Mb of disk space. The game works on all my platforms (Win XP Pro 32 bit, Vista Home Premium 64 bit, Vista Home Basic 32 bit, Win 7 Pro 64 bit and Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit). This game has consistently received a good score from the community. The last time it was given away it received 75% positive votes from 475 votes and previous to that a positive 77% out of 418 votes (January 2008).

Complete the game and you will get a splendid reward that'll come in handy even if you are not in the game. The adventure requires you to use your quick wits and skill as you will need to shoot an orb into the moving chain of colored balls trying to create a sequence of spheres of the same color, which will disappear. As all the moving balls vanish, your way to the treasure room will be cleared.

The Game:

PicDepict.com

The main menu contains a help file that gives you an animated run through of the various aspects of the game. This help page also appears when you first start the game. You start with 60 000 credits which you can use to purchase several of the power ups that are available. At the start of the game there are only three of these out of a total of nine available. The bomb ball costs 10 000, the chain bomb costs 20 000 and an extra life costs 40 000. Other power ups include Rain (15 000), lightning (20 000), Trident (25 000), Fireball (30 000), Firewave (30 000) and Inca Ball (40 000). These are unlocked as you progress through the levels. I think the first one is unlocked after level 4 or 5. Any power ups that you purchase are accessible from the bottom of the playing arena. You just click on the one you want to use before you shoot your next marble.

PicDepict.com

There are 60 levels available in game, each level having a different layout. The aim of the game is to destroy all the rows of marbles that are slowly moving towards a tunnel. You get successive waves of these marble ‘trains’. If you are slow to destroy any row you’ll find the next row catching up. There are several power ups that appear when you destroy marbles such as a reverse flow power up or a targeting marble. Other power ups include the stop power up, the slow down power up and the colour bomb power up.

If any marbles enter the end tunnel you lose one of your three lives. However buying a new life is relatively cheap when you see how many credits you can earn from each level. So it should be fairly easy, even for a novice at this game to complete the whole 60 levels.

Conclusion:

Inca Ball is a decent ball popper on the lines of Zuma, with loads of power ups to keep the game interesting. What I like about this game compared to the likes of Zuma and others of this ilk (Luxor and a few others excepted because they have some excellent power ups that are upgradeable) is the ability to purchase nine different power ups that can help you out of sticky situations for example If the row of marble is about to enter the final tunnel you can use one of your purchased power ups such as the chain bomb or bomb ball to destroy those marbles by clicking on the one you want (from the bottom of the arena). There are also more power ups that appear after destroying particular combinations of marbles. (Great stuff). As you would expect from any arcade game, the difficulty gets a little harder as you progress.

I’d give this a good 7.5 out of 10 for replayability and family fun.

Additional Information:

There's no way of easily changing the in-game music unless you are adept at editing executable files using a suitable test editor. The only way around this is to turn the volume down via the options menu where you can also toggle full screen/windowed mode then use your own music for background music. I find the music appropriate to the theme of the game. Though I do turn it down so that it's right in the background.

You can get Inca Ball from both MyPlayCity and Gametop, though it’s called Azteca at Gametop:

http://www.myplaycity.com/inca_ball/

http://www.gametop.com/download-free-games/azteca/

For those new to the Gamegiveaway project you'll find over 40 match three games at the above addresses and from MyPlayCity you'll find well over 250 commercial games for free. They are given away free becasue the owners of these sites pay the developers a retainer to be able to give them away. The only negatives with these games is that your browser is opened when you close the game down, but that is innocuous (i.e. doesn't harm your computer). also both sites do operate a policy wherby during installation they will ask if you want toolbars and sometimes your home page changing. These can be stopped by unchecking the tick boxes that appear. If you accidentaly miss the checkboxes and find you now have tool bars that you don't want or that your home page has been hijacked, there are relatively easy fixes to return your computer to normal. The first one is always create a restore point before you install the games. The rest you can ask in the forums if you end up with those annoyances. so long as you are observant all the games from MyPlayCity and Gametop are absolutely safe from malware and other crapware.
