Heroes of Dungeon-a Game based on the mechanics of " 3 in a row"
The essence of the puzzle genre "collect three" is reduced to making groups, lines and rows of 3 or more identical chips.
Heroes of Dungeon - This is the case when a seemingly ordinary puzzle challenges the player and he understands that only on his attentiveness and reaction depends on the victory.
You are waiting for adventures in the dungeon, choose one of the three characters and go on the road. On the way you will meet a lot of enemies, ranging from skeletons to dragons. Everyone has different characteristics, so you need to act quickly by collecting combinations of 3 or more identical tiles,so you hit the enemy. As you progress your character becomes stronger and learns new magic spells: You can freeze the enemy, or blow up tiles to make a big combo and deal a lot of damage to the enemy!

The Game:

I like these RPG linked match 3 games. Basically making matches earns various buffs for your character. The attackers attack automatically every 10 seconds initially and have an attack strength of 3. you start with a health of 100, so the first levels are easily won. As you progress through the levels, the attackers attack speed decreases so they attack more in less time and their attack strength increases as well. There appears to be no difference between all three characters. Though to choose the second and third character you have to first unlock them by playing the first level.

There are thirty levels to work through and you can choose from three characters. I've not figured whether they have different abilities yet, but this seems like a very basic version of this sub genre of match threes and probably has no differences between characters. The levels appear similar in difficulty (at least as far as I got through several levels). Creating matches scores hits against the enemy. The levels are scored with 1 to 3 stars; destroy your enemies before the bar reaches the first star to get three stars.

To my knowledge we've only ever had one other match three of this type since the project started back in Dec 2006 and that was June 2008 and was called Puzzle Hero; plus of course this game last year.

It was the first of it's type I'd ever played. I've since purchased several via Steam, all of which I much prefer to the standard match three game apart from maybe the first few e.g. Treasure's of Montezuma & Treasure's of Montezuma 2, as well as Sky Bubbles Deluxe and it's review over in the FORUMS. There a couple of free to play version of this sub genre on Steam called Gems of War, which has a big following and can be played online with friends (or enemies). It does include in app purchases, but these are not necessary to enjoy the game , especially if you are only playing the single player mode. I bought the demon hunter bundle when it was on sale for 80% so only cost me around £1.40. You can find it on Steam HERE. There's another free to play with no extras to purchase called Puzzle Pirates HERE.

The game comes with two language options, English and Russian.

Notes on Security
I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found zero hits from 60 antimalware engines.

The downloaded executable 'may' include some low level adware that only opens your browser once to Falcoware's home page after the game has installed and also places four shortcuts onto your desktop (which can be safely deleted once the game has installed).

The installation does NOT inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to Falcoware's home page following the games installation, it earns Falcoware games some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away free. Once you've installed the game, there are no more browser redirections. This is because Falcoware removed their installer over a year ago (that installer would show an advert for a game and then open your browser each time you played and then closed the game down.)

You can see the results of the scan via the following link:

Whiterabbit-uk,

Other Free Games:
For other free games, please check Delenn's threads over in the giveaway forums HERE (non-Steam games) and HERE (Steam games) for the latest freebies; it's kept up to date frequently, whenever a free game becomes available, (thanks for keeping this up to date Delenn, very much appreciated).

Also, for the latest Steam sales check THIS Steam database site out. You can list the games in 'price' & 'percentage off' by clicking the headers. If you link SteamDB (the Steam database) with your Steam account, all games that you already have will be highlighted in green and those in blue are on your wish list. When there are Steam games being given away, you'll see the percentage off as 100%. It's worth checking this regularly to make sure you don't miss the best deals and freebies. Delenn usually posts links to all free games within several hours of them going live, so check her links at the top of this comment as well.
Don't forget to check Indie Gala's freebie section HERE, then click on the Showcase header, selecting freebies from the drop down menu; the most recent additions include:

1) ... The Last Enchantress: Revival, (choice-based fantasy game, contains adult themes and not suitable for children)

2) ... Leisure Suit Larry 2 Looking For Love (In Several Wrong Places) (a returning giveaway)

3) ... Avani: The Primal Land (Explore, gather, learn, craft and build in the world of Avani: The Primal Land. Fight, hunt and tame wild animals. Animals have their own genetics and no animal is like the other. The interactive taming process allows making a real bond with each tame. Avani offers a unique crafting system combined with a huge skill tree and an intuitive building system mixed with traditional survival game elements)

4) ... Cov Shooter (Try to survive as many waves as possible, upgrade your stats and weapons to do that)

5) ... WTC : Relentless Protagonist [Sxs}, (a short mostly KINETIC comedy/drama visual novel)

6) ... Out of Puberty: Chapter 1 (graphic novel, contains adult themes and not suitable for children)

7) ... Neon Invasion Earth, (space invaders)

8) ... WTC : Recruitment Day (a short mostly KINETIC comedy/drama visual novel)

9) ... Pixel Puzzles 2: Paintings (NEW - jigsaw puzzle)

10) ... Welcome To... Chichester OVN 3 : The Mysterious Affair At The Violet Hotel (Interactive novel)

11) ... Copperbell (Returning freebie - hand drawn adventure game)

We have been given over 340 games since I started to check the freebie section several years ago. But around 60% of those are no longer available free. The following recent freebies have now been removed from the free library: Leisure Suit Larry 1 - In the Land of the Lounge Lizards , Figment, Pixel Puzzles 2: Space, Revolution Ace, Six Sides of the World, Byte Family, Alone on Mars, Garfield Kart, Nostradamus the Last Prophecy, Snowball, Pixel Puzzles 2: Christmas , Die Young (Full version), Distortions, Dino Run DX, Cheap Golf, Kill Em All, Dead Hungry Diner, and Contract with the Devil. If you claimed those while they were still available you can access them via your Indie Gala account under the showcase section. Each page from your free list can take 30 or so seconds to move to the next page; so, if like me you've added most of the free games over the last several years, it can take almost half an hour to get to the last page. I have just over 340 games in my free section. All remaining freebies can be found in the showcase section (113 games are still available). Not all games that go into the showcase remain free and are removed after a short period (e.g. the recent adventure puzzler Figment that costs almost £15 on Steam); so, you should grab them as soon as you can. All titles are DRM free.

This is your last chance to grab a copy of the latest Epic Game, Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons - Guide two brothers on an epic fairy tale journey from visionary Swedish film director, Josef Fares and top-tier developer Starbreeze Studios. This is one journey you will never forget. (This game is also included in the latest Humble Choice bundle as a Steam key - see below for the Humble Choice details). From tomorrow the 24th February at 4pm UK/11am Eastern we will be getting Cris Tales (an indie love letter to classic JRPGs with a new perspective).
The best Indie Bundles sites that have been operating from around 2011 are the Humble Bundle and Indie Gala sites (though the latter isn't as good as it used to be) where you'll sometimes find decent bundles with over 90% off the usual price of the games included in the bundles. The Humble site is in my opinion the best; though a more recent addition that is worth checking out called Fanatical games looks to be a serious contender for that title as they have some very good bundles. You can find Fanatical games (that used to be called Bundle Stars) HERE.

I've restarted a project I originally started back in 2008 that used to be called Good Games to Grab, where I posted free games over in the forums on a daily basis. I won't be posting them daily this time; only as and when I have time and the inclination. You can find the new forum section entitled 'Free Game Project' HERE. So far, I've posted eight excellent PC games, plus one android game as well as suggested or linked to others similar to the ones posted e.g.

Hidden & Dangerous Deluxe (a squad based solo shooter). Battlegroup 44 (a free-standing mod for Battlefield 2 that is a follow up to the original Battlefield 1942). Slam Tilt (an excellent pinball game with four tables). 3-D Ultra Pinball: Creep Night, (one of my all-time favourite pinball games from the mid 90's). Breakquest (one of my all-time top ten 2D breakouts). Messy Paths (an android game). Castlevania The Lecarde Chronicles (fan made free standing Castelvania game). Conflict Vietnam (third person squad-based shooter). Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2006 Trophy Season (a linear hunting game). Just added Open TTD (Transport Tycoon Deluxe). I'll be adding more over the coming months.

Black And White Apocalypse that was given away some weeks ago by the developer Hammergames is always free and can also be downloaded as a colour version. The community member Space pointed this out at the time. You can find both versions over on itch.io via the following links Black & White version, and Coloured version. :)

You can also find 'all nine' of the developers' games (for free) HERE. Some of them look like they are worth investigating. :)

The latest Humble Choice bundle went live at the beginning of February and includes eight games plus one DLC pack; i.e. Borderlands 3 with the director's cut DLC included, Black Book, Per Aspera, Just Die Already, Before We leave, Paradise Lost, Everhood and Calico. For original Humble Bundle subscribers, the cost is $12/£8.99 with other benefits such as access to a lot of indie titles for free while subscribed and a percentage off other purchases from the Humble store. This increases the longer you keep subscribed up to a year with 20% off all none bundle purchases. (1 month sub' gives 10% off, 3 months sub' gives 15% off and six months sub 'gives 17% off). The next Humble Choice bundle goes live Tuesday 1st March 22.

The latest Humble Bundles include a VR bundle called VR Discovery Bundle (Synth Riders, Blaston, Cook-Out, Panoptic, Trover Saves the Universe, Red Matter and Tower Tag + Soundtrack) that ends on the 11th March 22 and you'll find the first ever Epic Game bundle HERE that includes a good set of AAA and Indie arcade games (Saints Row: The Third Remastered, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, Mortal Shell, SCARF, The Last Campfire, What the Golf?, Shakedown: Hawaii) that ends on the 24th February 22.

If you are a removed game collector Gods Remastered a classic platformer from the early 90's is being removed from steam on the 27th March. You can swap between the original and the remastered version. You'll find the Steam page HERE

If you have Amazon Prime, the free February games are now available. You can get Stellaris on GOG for free. Visit Prime Gaming for details.

Stay safe everyone.

Hi WR, Let me preempt by stating that I truly admire your dedication as a moderator. You've stuck with it, even through the dwindling amount of available games and your personal challenges. May I speak for the community and say thank you. Regarding this game, you mentioned Puzzle Hero. I still have it and enjoy it (yes, I've been frequenting this site for that long). It truly is a one of a kind. Heroes of Dungeon is very slightly similar but Puzzle Hero it is not. That being said, if you enjoy match games with a twist, this one is not bad.

Sid,

Hi Sid,

I've stuck with the site partly out of habit, partly due to the occasional nice comment like yours from the community, it's given me some great friends over the years; three of whom I'll be playing some of that zombie shooter/melee game called Dying Light this evening. (I always look forwards to our Thursday game night, it reminds me of the times I used to play Dungeons & Dragons around a table with my school friends back in the late 70's. We'd often start playing late Saturday morning and play right through until Sunday morning. It also helps to keep my mind active (a little).

I don't spend as much time with the reviews like I used to; often just referencing others work; especially if I am of a similar opinion of the game. Life has oddly got busier over the last several years, so I don't have as much time as I'd like to research, play, then write a decent review. .

I also still have Puzzle Hero, and occasionally grab it from one of my back up disks to play. As I said in my review, it was the first of that sub genre of match three games I ever played and loved it. Since then I've discovered several that have the same mechanic and all as good or better than Puzzle Hero; for example, Puzzle Kingdoms, PuzzleQuest: Challenge of the Warlords, Puzzle Quest 2 and Puzzle Quest: Galactrix. They are well worth checking out; especially when on sale (though they are not on sale at the moment). I prefer them to traditional match three's apart from maybe the first few Treasures of Montezuma titles. :)

Stay safe.

regards Stephen
