Glow Ball

In Brief

Today's game giveaway is a physic's based game loosely based on pool and billiards, but in essence a totally different game. The title will give you a hint as to what the game looks like. :) The game will require you to have a Steam account and the Steam client installed. There are 50 keys available. This has been previously available in two different indie bundles (Groupee's and DIG bundles last year).

Suggestions:
If you like or don't like today's game please give some feedback about your opinion of the game, for example, what did you like about the game, or how it could be improved from your point of view . If you don't like this genre at all, please explain why. What improvements would change your opinion? There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality?

If you miss today's game giveaway you can always get the game via Steam 24/7 HERE. It costs £2.79 when not on sale. If you absolutely hate Steam the game is still available on Desura HERE as well (possibly comes with a Steam key as well), it does cost slightly more at £3.99, though you can download a demo that has around 15 levels. However, you still require the Desura client to install the game and the future of Desura is still not been assured following the demise of the owners last April 2015. The site is still up and running, and you can still download games that you've previously purchased, but there has been no messages from those who run the client for ages.

If you win a key, input it into your Steam client the usual way i.e. click the game button along the top of the Steam client (located between friends and Help) and from the drop down menu select 'Activate a Product on Steam'. This opens a product activation window. Just follow the prompts and the game will be permanently tied to your Steam account and you'll be able to install it on any computer anywhere in the world at any time so long as you can prove it's you (usually via email verification).

Introduction:

If you have a problem installing or activating or getting Glow Ball to work please visit the problems section, which I've now incorporated into the FAQ's thread over in sticky section of the Game discussion forums, and which you can find HERE

The Game:

Physics based puzzle game with a billiards feel to it, but with some devilishly designed levels. This is a very challenging game, which sadly has garnered a lot of negative reviews, which I personally think are undeserved. The developer has managed to create a game with some very innovative level designs.

If you like billiard games or love pool then this game is for you!

Features:

- New view on the game of billiards

- Unusual and challenging levels

- Each level is unique in its design

- Each level has its own innovations

Other Reviews and Videos:

You can read community members comments about today's game giveaway via Steams community members comments HERE. Generally the comments are negative, though I personally enjoyed the game. for the price I never expected what most complained about. Although it would have been nice to be able to use the mouse for directional hits, the WASD or arrow keys work just as well.
You can see a few videos of game play HERE, HERE, >, HERE and HERE

Conclusion:

You can get a demo of Glow Ball via Desura, which I've linked to above. Overall I found this game challenging, but not in a negative way. There are some excellent levels, deviously designed to make winning quite hard. Despite the many negative reviews on Steam, I'd still recommend this game, even if you purchased rather than won a key.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Valentin from WTFOMGames for giving away 50 keys for Glow Ball and also to the game giveaway team, as always, for providing a safe environment to download free games.

Useful Information:
The problems section that used to be posted here with the weekly game reviews is now included in the Game Discussion FAQ's thread; which you can find HERE. It together with some other sections were removed to cut down on the length of the review, which some community members found irritatingly long winded. :)

I've updated the games section that used to be posted with the review. The thread is now called 'Weekly round up of game deals', formerly the games section of the weekly reviews. You can find the new thread (which I've posted in the sticky section of the game discussion forums to make it easier to find if you are perusing the game discussion forums) HERE.

The latest free game over on Origin is still Nox.

You can get it HERE. Please note that you do require the Origin game platform to be able to download and install the game. uPlay were giving away Rayman:Origins last week. not sure if it's still available, but if it is, you'll get it HERE. Apparently, uPlay are now following Origins lead and giving away a game every so often.

If today's game wasn't to your liking, you may find other games either free or for less than the price of a cup of coffee (from your favorite coffee house) via the 'Weekly Roundup of Game Deals' thread which I've posted a link to above, or HERE
Thanks to Delenn for posting details of the following two freebies. One more from Failmid's Shareware-On-Sale site called ALERT: SECTOR 8. "This edition of the game is the upgraded PC version of ALERT: SECTOR 8. This is not the HTML5 version of the game that was given away some months ago. Also available for free on GOG is
Shadow Warrior Classic Complete.

I was lucky enough to win a key, here is my Steam review I just posted there

Won a key on iveawayoftheday for which a ty to both Dev and GGOTD
A Single Player "Single player pool billiards puzzle" game
Controls are simple Arrows left/right or A/D keys for Aim, Arrows up/down or W/S keys to "fine tune" your shot. Hold spacebar until desired "power" is reached, release spacebar to shoot
Use R to reset a level, however if you enter into minus point on a level it will reset itself by default, no undo options in regards to gthe pugzzle

Can be fun but also frustrating, ball directions after contact are fairly accurate, I am less pleased with the shot power differences and when a ball does or does not decide it is "in the hole enough" to drop sometimes

Game could benefit from a multiplayer mode
A basic understanding of pool billiards is a pre as this can help you use chain shots

Nice game for pool and puzze enthousiasts alike, I got it for free but if I had bought it I would not have felt cheated by the price :) nice timewaster

@Moderator, yeah I was under the impression that there were 50 keys unless that got changed without anyone knowing.

...........................Moderator Comment................................

The reason I remember 50 is because I was working out the average chance of anyone getting a key after the first day. so it looks like we've got 25 less than originally promised. ah well. Glad someone else remembers.

How many of those winners created fake accounts and more than one account?

...........................Moderator Comment................................
I think you have to link to a Steam account as well. You'd have to create multiple Steam accounts as well as different emails. I don't know whether IP addresses also have something to do with it, in which case it wouldn't be possible. I think the first time Steam keys were given away that situation did occur when a community member posted a link to a site where another community member had got more than one key, but that wasn't a competition like last weeks game, it was an unlimited number of keys. The person blatantly admitted to getting more than one key and was trying to sell the spare copies of the game keys he'd acquired. Maybe some users have done this previously and maybe it is still possible, but the effort for such a cheap game seems pointless to me, especially as you are not guaranteed a key. From the total number of entries, the number of keys available and the number of entries each community member could make, assuming everyone made the total number, it works out at approximately a 15% (i.e. 1 in 6) chance of winning a key, (I initially thought there were 50 keys available, but it seems only 25 were given).

I realize that you need to make money. But, since participating in all these offers, my inbox is crammed with junk mail. But, I enjoyed GOTD when I had a home computer. And, thank you for years of service.

Soon the party will lose its unique character, some contests, and a "win," I do not like it and I think it erases favorites. Such is the lot of garbage on the Internet. People, 50 people won, and 1000 fighting, paranoia. Wake up!!!

Hey Wrascally Wabbit,

Didn't enter..rather let someone else win it..Good luck!

GOG has a free game...Shadow Warrior Classic Complete on GOG.com. I don't know for how long.

And SOS/FAILMID has a free one here.... ALERT: SECTOR 8 PC Version (100% discount) - FAILMID. "This edition of the game is the upgraded PC version of ALERT: SECTOR 8. This is not an HTML5 game — this is a traditional game you download, install, and play. It has all the settings features to suit your preferences and we will be adding minimum of 3 additional levels to the game as well, also added aircraft."

Hugs to the Wabbit and his family. Busy, busy, busy! Hardly have time to breath much less play a game..

Laters...

Hi Delenn, easily done, so corrected it for you and deleted the second comment. Hope that's okay? Thanks. Alert Sector 8 was given away some months ago as well, but I think it was the browser version. Got this one earlier today. Had meant to add it to the free stuff a the end of my review, but never got around to it, so thanks for posting; appreciated. p.s. hope you get some rest.

idluckyone, Yep it's me. I so miss the old Disqus-Glarysoft days. Hope you are doing well.

I don't d/l many Win programs anymore. I refuse to use Win10. I am sticking with Win 7 for now plus I am dual booting with MakuluLinux – MakuluLinux a Whole world of possibilities…. I love it and 85% of my games work in Linux. If not I can boot into Win7. Best of both worlds......

Is the name of this company REALLY ....................removed by moderator....................-- Oh, my Go- Games"? REALLY? NO WAY NO WAY NO WAY !!! would I download a game from a company with that name.

..........................Moderator comment.............................

Hi Swampy, sent you an email. Also, removed a couple of words in your comment above. Even though there was no actual swearing, it was implied and as I've mentioned to others, this is a family site, so need to keep things 'proper' :) Hope you understand?

Reply   |   Comment by Swamp Thing  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

If they don't want questionable words in the forum - and I'm all for that - then they don't need to get games from companies with questionable words in their name.

........................Moderator Comment.........................

Just shows how observant I am as I never connected the developers name with the abbreviated swear words. I've contacted the developer and asked him what the abbreviation stands for. It may very well be connected, but then again it may be a genuine coincidence. sometimes words from one language can mean something entirely different and even considered a serious swear word in other languages take for example some Chinese names that although not spelled exactly the same, when translated to English are basically quite serious swear words, even though they are also names. I'll let you know if the developer replies to my query. :)

For the first time EVER my comment was NOT posted in this forum Saturday. SHAME ON YOU, White Rabbit! SHAME SHAME SHAME straight from the lips of Gomer Pyle!

You said there was a free game TODAY. Where is TODAY's free game? I only see this game which isn't free and isn't today.

..........................Moderator comment.............................

Hi Swampy, ah yes you are right, it's not actually available until the weekend, didn't think about the time period. Still, it's 'sort of available today' Hope you've read my email. I have deleted the repeat comment though

what happened....no download button....to much trouble to get games anymore. Guess I will live with what I already have.

..........................Moderator comment.............................

Hi Loving games, no, it's become really hard to get developers to giveaway games. today's game isn't a direct download.. It's a Steam key, which you may win. If you do, you'll require a Steam account and the Steam client, which will then enable you to download the game at any time instead of the 24 hour limitation. today's game will be up for the next five days. You can get a total of 15 entries if you start today. Once you've completed all of the tasks for today, you can earn a further two entries each day until Saturday, when the winners will be announced. the more entries you have the more chance you will have of winning a steam key. See my review for a fuller explanation.

Moderator, the page says the competition has ended, but the game.givawayoftheday.com front page says it's still active... this page also does not list the winners.... did anyone win? Did you get an answer over the doubly offensive appreviations in the developers namre yet? PS try to remember when there is an upcoming competition such as this please don't raise hopes of a true giveaway by anouncing a competition as a giveaway when it is not, it costs personal privacy and personal integrity to enter and even the winners never happen until days later.
