Galaxian Racing:

Ashampoo-Snap-15-June-2022-08h04m54s-003
In Brief:
Galaxian Racing is a recently released game from BD Games. It's a unity based game that looks like it's been ported from android. It's an endless racing game where you control a ship with your mouse using the LMB and moving from right to left & left to right, picking up any gold and avoid any obstacles and drops. Watch out for the moving obstacles and bombs. You ship moves immediately you start the level and have no control over the speed of the vehicle.

There is a menu at the bottom of the start screen that includes four buttons. The first one takes you to the garage where you can purchase new ships from a selection of 21, with prices varying from 500, 1000 & 1500 gold. The second (statistics) and third (achievements) buttons appear to be disabled; the fourth take you to the settings panel where you can turn off the sound and music. This panel is partially obscured by a photo capture. Two of the buttons i.e. write to us and store purchases are also disabled; (further evidence that it's an android game.

When you first start the game you'll see a icon with the title Grab your reward. This will reappear every six hours. Clicking on the icon (in the form of a present) awards you 20 gold pieces.

Every time you crash, a screen capture appears to be taken and It appears you could capture gifs as well, but in this version Gif's are disabled. However, searching the usual places screen captures are saved, (My Documents and within the hidden folder AppData) I could find no trace of the images looking for both the name of the game and the developers moniker.

Graphics are basically low poly and colourful. See the introduction below the countdown timer for further details. Thank you.

You can see a video of game play HERE
Conclusion:
We had a very similar game to this a few weeks ago, with exactly the same mechanic except the title and the objects were different (forgot the name of it already). Some effort has gone into this game, but I found the mouse control a little sluggish so was constantly crashing into objects even with my mouse setting set to extremely responsive.

The level of rewards you get from this game i.e. an initial 20 gold and each pick up is worth 1 gold (maybe more as you progress further into the game), will still take you a considerable amount of time to be able to purchase even the cheapest replacement vehicle from the garage. As they are blanked out in the shop, are they just different colours and blocky shapes with no other attributes or do they include something significantly different to make it worth your while trying to earn the cash to buy one? I suspect the former.

As with many of these games, it's more suited to the coffee/tea break times rather than any extended play (unless you are a masochist); however, for those of you who love endless running/racing games, this may be worth a look, but for me it was much too frustrating. After almost 30 minutes of game play (with breaks while I took screen captures), my best time barely made 9 seconds of game play time before crashing. It's definitely not a game I will be returning to, but don't let that put you off.

Whiterabbit-uk,

Notes on Security
I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found zero hits from 56 antimalware engines. You can see the results of the scan via the following link:

https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/4caffed4bab28ebcd808dc564c4384386497bc3d06bf88b0e5787b1f2d3950f0?nocache=1

If you select to include a desktop shortcut for the game; what is actually installed are five desktop shorrtcuts. You can delet e four labelled Online Game!, Free Games Downloads!, Online Games Website & WebGL Games! These have been included so that if you follow them, the distributor will earn some cash through advertsing; part of which is shared with the developer of the game you got for free. No hidden malware is installed to your system

If you're still not convinced of the games efficacy and want to be absolutely sure that the game is safe to install, please use a sandbox program first, to check that the game is safe to install before installing it to your C drive or other drives on your computer (assuming you have more than one drive).

Personally I've never had any issues with any of falcowares games, even when the Falcoware installer was included.

There are free sandbox programs such as Sanboxie, GeSWall, BitBox, Windows Sandbox, Bufferzone (a six month commercial license was given away via the applications side of the project back in December 2009 HERE), Shadowzone, as well as others. (You'll find them all on the same page from Techwhoop.

Whiterabbit-uk,

You'll find regularly updated details of all the reasonable game deals and freebies that I can find HERE . I update the thread every few days (unless I'm really busy).

The latest freebie from Steam is the excellent Massive Multiplayer Online ARK: Survival Evolved (includes a single player mode) together with seven of it's DLC's (these are not skins but actual add-ons that include six additional maps and a total conversion DLC). Grab it while it's free until the 19th June. Brief explanation of the game - You are stranded on the shores of a mysterious island, and must learn to survive. Use your cunning to kill or tame the primeval creatures roaming the land, and encounter other players to survive, dominate... and escape! .

Also free via Steam until the 22nd June is Capcom Arcade Stadium and Capcom Arcade Stadium:STREET FIGHTER II - The World Warrior HERE. With your download you also get to relive the Capcom classics! Get 1943 -The Battle of Midway- and game logo wallpapers free!

Also free via GOG (ends soon) is Shantae and the Pirate's Curse HERE that ends Friday at 1pm UK/8am Eastern. There will be at least one other game given away via GOG on the 17th June with possibly more to come, so keep checking the page I've linked to.

Thank you to Delenn and Jason for the heads-up on the above freebies.

The Cities: Skylines - Colossal Collection detailed in the above thread over in the game discussion forums ends in less than 1 day; (Thursday 1am UK, Wednesday 8pm Eastern). The Capcom bundle ends in a weeks time.

Whiterabbit-uk, Elder Scrolls - Dagger Fall is the last game to be given away by GOG. I just received the email at the time of this reply. As of right now Shantae has 20 hours left to go on the giveaway. It's great to see all these giveaways.

sailorbear510 aka Jason,

Got it; I bought the original when it was released back in the mid 90's. I've loved the franchise since its inception with Arena. Both are free on Steam, but as far as I know the unity edition which has improved graphics has still to be added to Steam???

I have over 10 thousand hours invested in The Elder Scrolls Online (I bought two copies, the first before it was released on Steam then the Steam version when it was released a few months later); though I've taken a break from it since last March 2021 after playing it daily from it's release in April 2014 till last March.

I'm still waiting for another single player only release. The last one was Skyrim which was released on the 11th November 2011. Sadly, like most of the big name developers they have opted to go the MMO way instead; I dislike MMO's (at least most of them) because they don't really cater for the slower or less experienced players. . ESO and Fallout 74 do at least have a semblance of a single player feel even though they are MMO's as you can play solo without getting pawned by rogue player unless you go for the pvp options.

I was sad to see Microsoft buying out Bethesda.

delenn13,

I wasn't expecting another freebie until the 17th; that said Daggerfall is permanently free as far as I know.

Run and jump games were very popular back in the day with the screen scrolling forward automatically. I can't remember the name of the game but I do remember playing some kind of game where I was in a jungle like setting trying to get as many coins as I can.

(Martial law which was given away awhile ago follows the auto screen scrolling format as well )

Today's giveaway has no bearing on the arcade game of the same name but rather tests your skills to pilot your ship using your mouse. It's important to know you have to hold down the left mouse button to pilot your ship left and right to gain more points.

(Just so you know, this game may be uncomfortable or unusable for those who may have pain as a result of holding down the mouse button continuously)

Have tried over and over to last more then 5 seconds but sadly that's all. The mouse movement though is spot on and the graphics are smooth for the most part. Game really does need a usable and more functional interface to manage the game options.

I feel today's game behaves more like a mobile phone / tablet game as opposed to a game that natively is supposed to be on PC / Mac. It looks like it could belong in an app store

As whiterabbit-UK mentioned, the interface overlaps which is a minor oversight by the developer. It's a fun game that can be developed into something better but for now it's just worth playing about 10 minutes at a time and then going about your day.

sailorbear510 aka Jason,

I remember a jungle based run and jump game as well and yes, the name escapes me too; but it may have been Jungle Escape 1 or 2 or Temple Run?
