Tried download and reinstall 3 times. The only buy I noticed was there were no descriptions of the fish in the instructions section. When I selected the fish nothing came up. Just a vertical scroll bar that couldn't scroll or that had no description when i did. I thought it might instead list the number of that type of fish that I caught - like a trophy screen in many games - but that didn't seem to be the case either. At least not in campaign mode. Maybe in action mode....

There was a similar game being offered that looked like the same graphics. It was another fish kind of game. It makes me wonder if one could purchase the engine it was made on and make their own game? Too many similar games out there off the unity engine.

I agree with the folks that are saying we need to be able to re-start at the level you died at. Restarting at level one is frustrating. It is an oddly captivating game but only until you have to start over 1 o4 2 times then it is just an exercise in frustration.

It's an ok game. I don't like having to start over from scratch when I loose. But it also seems as if it know what fish you have a majority of for the last fish of the kind you have is very hard to get. It either will cover the one fish on the screen with other varities or you can't find one at all. Some of the instructions are hard to understand and should be written over. Also I really hate having to find the .exe file in the "ancient" folder. I don't know if they are coming from the same company and all go into it or what but I wish these games would let me put a shortcut on either the start menu or on the desktop. At this time until there are improvements I would give the game a 5 out of 10.

The lack of desktop and start menu shortcuts isn't usual. If you purchased the game directly from Gambana or big Fish games you would get these shortcuts automatically installed (plus an uninstaller as well). For some reason most game giveaways lose this ability. I don't know why; probably has something to do with the way it's been wrapped by the game giveaway wrapper.

As for having to start from the beginning if you lose a level, i agree totally. I do remember a lot of games from this period were similar in that there wasn't a full save feature that allowed you to progress from the last level won. Unfortunately I doubt this would be rectified in such an old game.

This game is over six years old! Six years ago, I was like six years younger!

So, I'm not quite sure what you do in this game. You push a button to drop a line and hit a fish. What else? Or is that it?

I agree with Merlyne. I deleted it solely because it's just not entertaining enough to warrant wasting the time involved in starting from the beginning every time you fail a level. This a huge flaw as far as I'm concerned. Otherwise, it would be a very good game. Better luck next time and thanks for letting us try it.

Thank you for the game. I like the concept and enjoyed the first few levels in Campaign Mode, but I simply do not like games where you have to start at level 1 again and again when you do not achieve a level. This is frustrating and boring. The Action Mode where you have to catch as many fish as you can I find also boring. The graphics are nice and colourful, but this is not a game that holds my interest and attention. I recommend the possibility to restart only the level you do not achieve. That will keep my interest for a while longer.

It is a simple but pleasing game (to me that is). Rated: 7 out of 10
It is really nothing full featured, but just pleasant.

You drop your hook in the water near a fish you want to catch.
Certain fishes you may catch, others not. When you catch a fish you shouldn't, you will be stalled for a while. When you catch a fish that might catch, you earn money. When hook and fish meet in the water, the fish is catched.

After completing a level (your goal for that level was met, like the number of fish) you go to a shop where you can spend the earned money and buy things that help you fishing, like a longer line to fish near the bottom. No need to say that you cannot buy when your money is not sufficient yet.

Levels will get harder when they are of a higher number.

Simple, but quite ..eh.. catchy. The style is cartoon like with bright colours. I will enjoy this from time to time between things (that's me, always between things, only puzzlegames will be given larger portions of time by me).

The game reacts good and fast. Because of the OCX-file activeX is used. Be prepared to update in case of trouble.
Though started in full screen-mode, it will not mix-up the desktop when going to windowed mode (though I still would prefer a start in Windowed mode or a start with a choice).

It installed fine for me. Try using a different file archiver to unzip the game (7-Zip or J-Zip) I've linked to several in the FAQ's thread found over in the game discussion forums. (I've linked to the thread in my review). I've had similar problems with zip files in the past. When using a different file archiver its solved the problem.

If it doesn't it may be a problem with your internet connection that's causing the corruption.

It seems to be a nice clean game.
You can choose where to install the game and no icons are made on the desktop or in the Start menu. You'll find it in the designated map.

The goal is to catch a certain amount of the same fish in a row, when achieved the level ends and you can choose an attribute to buy.

In the first levels you can't get to the bottom of the pond, because your line is not long enough. There will also be fish swimming around that are too heavy for the fishing rod you've got, when that happens you loose a lot of time before the fish lets go.

I made it to level 5 in my first attempt ;-)the only fish that were the same prooved to be too heavy for the fishing rod.

It's a nice gane for a lost hour somewhere, relaxing and not too frustrating.
The English in this game is definitely not very good, but clear enough to know what to do.

In total a 7/10

Fishing Trip downloads to a 17.7 MB zip file that unpacks to a read me and a wrapped setup file (the orange colored file with the key symbol), plus there's a setup file with security (setup.gcd) that's protected from being hacked (because the previous giveaway system was easily cracked). This file may case some security software to alert the user to a possible malware attack, but it will be a false positive.

The game giveaway team check all game giveaways for malware using several well known anti -malware suites. There has never been a game giveaway infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006. (The owners know that allowing such things would compromise their buisness, so they make sure all software given away via the giveaway and gamegiveaway sites are throughly checked for all types of malware before allowing community members to download any files.

Some community members have been having problems installing games since the security software was added. It's been found that turning off your security temporarily or configuring it to accept the setup.cgd file usually sorts the problem out.

To register and install the game click on the orange colored icon. The installed game is MB in size. and installs to the following path by default:


C:\Games\Fishing Trip

The path can be changed to suit whatever your wishes are. Once the game is installed you can delete the giveaway setup files. There isn't a shortcut or uninstaller iinstalled to either the desktop opr Start menu programs list.

I've tested the game on a Win 7 and Win 8 systems and it works on both. I don't have a Vista or XP installation set up at the moment (and won't for several months until we move house later this year).

Play either of two game modes: Both Campaign Mode and Action Mode will have you battling the clock. In Campaign Mode, you also need to catch sequences of identical fish to advance to the next level. Think you're up for the challenge? If you succeed, you'll earn game cash that'll allow you to purchase gear that'll help you conquer the increasingly-difficult levels. In Action mode, you've got all available 'ammunition' right from the start, but you're going to need to collect a lot more fish to beat the levels!

The Game:


The aim of the game is to get as many points as possible. There are two game modes, Campaign and Action modes. In campaign mode to progress from level to level you must catch a specified number of similar fish in a row. Fail to accomplish this and you have to restart the level.

As you progress through the levels you earn better equipment to fish with, more hooks and faster spinning rods. At the end of a level all fish caught will be converted into cash (assuming you catch the specified number of fish). You can then spend this cash on better equipment if you've earned enough. In action mode your goal is to catch as many fish as you can within a limited time frame. The remaining time increases when you collect 'Combo Goals. A combo goal is when you collect a certain number of similar fish in a row.

You can change between full screen and windowed mode by clicking on the second button in the upper right corner of the game screen. Clicking on the X will open up window that allows you to either exit thew game or go to the Start screen. You can turn off the music and sounds vias the two buttons to the top left of the game screen.

In the shop you'll find several types of hooks with different numbers of barbs included, bait, spinning reels, lengths of fishing line with different strengths and different outboard motors that allow your boat to travel faster.

Initially you won't be able to cqatch every fish. Some will be too deep wheras others will be too heavy for the line you are using.

Music:

You can't edit the in game music, but you can turn it off independantly of the sound effects. If you want to hear something different you'll have to use your own music collection

Conclusion:

When I first played this back in 2007, I initially thought it was going to be a dud, but after playing it for a while i actually quite enjoyed myself. it's mindless fun, but a little addictive. I've seen better versions of this game (see my list below, with links to some free versions), but you can't complain for free.

I think its a great game for the kiddies, so, if yopu're having the grandkids stay over for the weekend and you're at a loss or the weather isn't suitable to take them out, get this for them. I'm sure most will throughly enjoy it. I don't think the majority of the adult community will enjoy it as much, but I do hope to hear from those of you who liked playing it. :)


As you can see from the image of the shop (posted above) there are spelling errors such as lenght instead of length (this could be a simple typo). Personally so long as the idea is communicated. spelling errors don't bother me at all.
Problems:

If you are posting late in the day I would also suggest posting in the main giveaway forums, in the game discussion section because I cannot moderate 24hrs a day over the weekend. If you've installed the game but it won’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at another time. Unfortunately if your problem is actually installing it then once the giveaway period is over there’s nothing that can be done until the game is given away again (though that isn't guaranteed). Sometimes you can still register the game after the giveaway has ended so long as you managed to start the download before the giveaway ends. I've tested this and sometimes the grace period lasts for up to 2 hours, but more often than not 1 hour is the norm.

It’s always worth checking out the free games sites as sometimes the games we get here are also available for free from them. MyPlayCity has the most with over 600 games to choose from. Today's game isn't available from any free game site, but MyPlayCity do have a a few Fishing games you may be interested in, for example Fishing Simulator 2, Crazy Fishing, Fortune Fishing. You may also find Fishing Superstars, Sega Bass Fishing, Fishing Trip 2 and Super Dynamite Fishing of interest (commercial games). As always if you decide to install MPC games do be aware of the potential toolbar installations and changes in home page if you don't uncheck the check boxes. :)

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you've checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.
