Please only post comments about today's game giveaway; other comments either inappropriate, or comments with only one or a few words; for example vg, good, thank you, TY, bad, rubbish, this game is ****** etc , or if the comment has nothing to do with today's game or is complaining (send your complaints to the giveaway team via the contact form that I've linked to below), they may be deleted at the moderator or administrators discretion; however, a little light banter among community members/friends and with the moderator to keep this a friendly place to visit is acceptable and welcomed. All comments not specifically about today's game giveaway will be judged by the moderator and if deemed inappropriate, will be deleted and usually with no explanation. Please see the moderation policy HERE for details about posting comments. If you are having problems installing today's game check the FAQ's thread HERE and read through the communities comments because sometimes fixes have already been posted, for example, a common issue seen since the Themida wrapper was introduced three years ago is that some community members installation of the game is blocked by their security (usually an error message is flagged for example 'The executable is corrupted' even though in reality it is not) because Themida code has been known to hide malware, so as a precaution some anti malware programs will block and even delete the suspect installation files even though they are actually free from malware. This issue can be solved either by rebooting your computer in safe mode with networking or a quicker method is to temporarily turn off your security software to allow the installation. In the almost 11 years this game giveaway site has been operating there has 'never' been a game given away that was infected with malware.
If for any reason you want to contact the giveaway team, for example, you have a game to offer the community, or are unable to download the latest game or other issues that the FAQ's thread or these comments don't cover or solve you can do so HERE

Introduction:
Do you like inquiry games? If you want to have unusual experience investigating the complicated cases and feel like a great spy - we are glad to see you here! You will like this game for sure! This is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: The Strange Case game! At the end of 19 century terrifying events shocked quiet life of London's citizens. A dreadful creature began walking around London and scaring everybody with its meaningless and cruel actions. It stamped a pretty young lady, killed a defenseless Member of English Parliament and annoyed a boy who always sold matches. Mr. Utterson was sure that his close friend Dr. Henry Jekyll has strong ties with all those fearful events but fortunately he made a mistake. In Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: The Strange Case you will find two individuals in one person! During the investigation with Mr. Utterson you will get to know who is to be in charge. Do you want to know who Mr. Hyde is? You will also feel the atmosphere of English houses while visiting all the rooms in Dr. Jekyll's house and his laboratory. In each room your aim is to collect objects which are hidden in different places. You pick them up and then put in a special box. You should be very attentive in order not to lose an object. Different options are very helpful - use them wisely! Some objects are hidden outdoors and it's a good chance for you to travel along narrow London's streets with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: The Strange Case game! If you find everything you might be able to save Dr. Jekyll from sudden death.

Conclusion:
I've not had time to play the game long enough to give an unbiased opinion. Really busy this weekend, so doubt I will have the time. :(
Suggestions:
After you've had an opportunity to play today's giveaway please take a few moments to give some positive or negative feedback about the game; for example, what you liked or disliked about the game, or how it could be improved. If you don't like the genre at all, please explain why and if any, what improvements would change your mind? If you don't have time to post a comment today, please do so at your convenience, thank you. To access the comments once the giveaway is over, open up the game giveaway to its home page then scroll to the bottom of the page where it says Archives and select the date the giveaway was live (giveaway days are in bold type). This will open up the appropriate page for you to post your comment or review.
There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers new or fresh ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality? Giving such feedback instead of saying nothing or just saying this game is rubbish or good may bring more developers to the site, which could mean more and better games. Would 'you' give away thousands of copies of a game (or extra content for a game) away to a community that complains all the time instead of giving useful feedback? It only needs a few moments of your time.

This site could be transformed if only the community would be more forthcoming in their opinions of the games they are getting for free instead of complaining about the way this site has changed, for example, they don't like MPC games, they hate HOG's, have had enough of Match Three and Time Management games, or they want to see the latest version of Call of Duty or some other big name AAA game given away or that they don't like Steam games. If something isn't for you then please move on to the next giveaway, or check out the forums HERE, HERE and HERE, where a few members of the community post details of various free games and free game sites as well as links to various indie bundle sites etc; you never know, you may find something that really interests you.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank MyPlayCity for giving away Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: The Strange Case and also to the game giveaway team, as always, for securing other ways to get free games.

I've just finished playing this - I think about 3.5 hours (I haven't bothered to check the stats!).

I love HOGs and especially ones that have puzzles as well. I felt that game came fairly near to the story except at the end - but this may have been because the developers felt that they had to have an ending that could appeal to all ages. (I'm not sure that they were right if that was the case, as in my experience young people enjoy a bit of horror!!)

Anyway for my own thoughts - IMHO:

Pros:

different types of HOGs (lists, silhouettes, numbers of the same thing to find etc)

music (quite eerie)

a decent story even if it didn't finish as the novella does

some good puzzles and the first jigsaw was particularly challenging

kept my attention (wanting to know what was coming next).

Cons:

one of my pet hates in HOGs - having to be absolutely precise in where you click and even then it didn't always work (it's absolutely infuriating when you use a hint only to find that you've been trying to click on that darn thing!!)

the way it would move the scene even if you didn't want it to (I couldn't find a way to freeze the scene, but I apologise if I've missed something)

some of the HOGs seemed rather like filler to extend the time - the knives, forks and spoons was incredibly easy and didn't add anything to the story

the way it would illuminate the supposedly hidden object that you needed to add to inventory - it's supposed to be a HOG for any sake!!

To sum up, I quite enjoyed playing this game apart from the Cons that I've listed, but have deleted it now.

Pros: the

Please excuse the very late moderation Margaret; Sunday and today have been very busy days. Thank you for your excellent feedback. I am adding your name to the list of winners of a Steam game over in the forums. Please select a game or two (or three) from the list. I've been very remiss at sending out keys to winners due to various circumstances, but do intend to honour all promises soon. I've just completed a project literally a few hours ago that has been weighing on my mind for several months and feel like a massive weight has been lifted. My next job once I've searched through some family images which I promised my wife I would do will be to send out all the Steam keys I've promised. (We are searching for particular images of a rare toad and a lizard that we took several years ago in the local pond next to our old house. The local council are planning to rip apart a small woodland and wetland area that includes the pond where we found the toad and lizard next to our old home and we only have several more weeks to put in our reasons for the planning to be refused. The council have been wanting to build on a large area of what was once farmland. The original owner had kept if free looking for land prices to increase substantially before selling; so for years we lived in a really pleasant rural like area on the outskirts of the Manchester conurbation. Sadly most of the green belt that used to be protected has now been downgraded so that local councils can built on it following government guidelines on the number of homes each area are expected to built over the next decade. Our area for example are expected to built around 1400 to 2000 homes, all on greenbelt area's. Grrrr..... . The species is protected, but there is no proof that the species still lives there, yet we have the proof, the only problem is I have over a hundred thousand images taken over the last 15 year since I purchased my first digital camera, and I've always been really bad at keeping a good record of where I keep things, so I'm having to search through terabytes of data spread over hundreds of CD's/DVD's and Blu Ray back ups as well as several large external drives and several computers, each with three or more hard drives with backed up data etc. Please excuse the waffle. :)

HI,
I didn't have a chance to come back and review yesterday, though downloaded and played awhile. It took a short while to download and opened easily. I did feel a drag on opening and often in the game. At first I did not like it and would best describe play as disjointed!! But as I played on I began liking it more. Game play is easy and you follow one short scenario with puzzles or hogs in it. It could use some smoothness to the flow of the game. A couple of times while playing I would click on the hidden item, but was not accepted until clicked a few times or found all others first. Thank you for another good game. Don't much like the look of Sunday's game, so am skipping, because am backed up with work etc. Have a good week! Lee

I love HOGs so I was pleased to see this one and it downloaded and played with no problems. (Windows 10) It is a bit light on instructions, and play is a bit different from many other HOGs so there was a bit of trial and error to sort out what to do. I liked that you can magnify the scenes to make finding stuff easier - and the ability to increase the brightness is very useful. Was confused by some of the instructions until I realised that all you had to do was click somewhere on the screen the stated number of times! Odd. Some of the hidden objects are quite small and hard to find, I wouldn't like to have to find them in the windowed mode! Overall though, a really nice game - thanks GGOTD.

Downloaded on my Vista laptop after disabling my antivirus briefly. At the end of the install, it opened a new browser tab to the MPC website and telling me to add an extension to complete the installation! I don't think so! The game looks fun but if I have to be tracked by MPC to play it, I'm getting rid of it post haste!

I downloaded and installed 2 times. Each time I try to open it, I get an error message that shows in the top a Chinese text. It's the first time that something like this happens to me with this games. It's a pity that I lose the giveaway for expiration.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Monica

Try using Google Translate to decipher the error message. also check your event logs immediately after trying to install the game as any problems are usually recorded there. The game does have several language options via the options menu. No one else has reported this issue and thousands of community members including myself and my two children have installed and opened this game successfully, so it's possibly something on your computer or the way you have your computer set up that is causing the problem.

I just finished Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. The entire game with a few breaks for meals lasted about 4 hours of game play. The graphics are decent, though you can tell they are dated. Aside from finding random objects, you do find objects you need to finish the task. I really liked the arrows to let you know where to go. What I didn't like was how small the objects were. I really had to squint to find them. I wouldn't play this again, it isn't the type of story plot that is all that interesting. I did have to turn off the sound on this game because even at the lowest setting, you could hear the chattering of the people and I was listening to a program on YouTube while playing.

The Pro's:

I am quite the HOG fan, so, I can say with some experience that I had no issue downloading and installing or even playing on WIN 10.

Basic story line with a "relaxed" game play (not timed); timed for those who want some spice with their game.

Decent graphics with items easily recognized.

The Cons:

The noise or sound on the game has a bug. It won't let you play in complete quiet. You can hear the chattering in the first scene for example while the volume is on the lowest setting.

The graphics are dated. The items are clearly computer generated, the lines were not polished and the scene needed a zoom feature so you can make the room larger without compensating the graphics (distorting, making them fuzzy, etc.).

Extra game play, allow the player more choices to change the outcome of the game. (SPOILER ALERT): One panel toward the end had the player make an antidote OR follow the person into the cemetery for example. More of those.

That's about it. As a game it's pretty decent but low interest. It's one of those games you do once, put it on the shelf, come back to it in a year or so.

Thanks Game Giveaway of the Day and the maker/s for the game.

I play on an small screen. The little objects are difficult to see. I don't see a button to exit back to the main menu. Playing with sound off. Would that make a difference.

Win10 64 bit Home. I found this game easy to load and play. Just a few adjustments at the menu and away we go. Items were easy to follow. Lots of things to do like click this and that but the game was easy to follow. I did wonder what all the gold stars were for and they are for Hints. Great game and thank you.

Ok. Here's an update to my previous comment: I find that there is indeed a way to create more players for the game, but this option comes up only after you exit the game and restart it.

I liked the atmosphere and graphics of this game. I also liked the cool parallax scrolling effect.

BUT, there were a fews things I didn't like:

1) It looks like only one person can play this game. There is no way where you can change the player.

2) The various scenes of the game seem to be disjointed. There is no smooth story flowing through the game. (I guess the game may make more sense to someone who has read the book.)

3) The instructions are not very clear; or the developers have left it for the player to find out how some things work. For example, when the blurred scenes appear: The first time I tried clicking on specific things; but only later, quite by chance, I realized that the scene becomes clearer each time we click anywhere on the scene!

On the whole, I enjoyed the game. My only wish is that the game should be made more user friendly.

Thanks to MPC and HdO for this one.

Yes as others have said it is DARK and you WILL need to take the brightness up to max. One niggle though: the Brightness slider affects the WHOLE SYSTEM and not just the game's window, so I advise you note where the Brightness is BEFORE you move it, so you can set it back before you Quit. ;)

The cryptic ones like "4 × Keep going!" 'goals' just mean you need to click anywhere that number of times: had me puzzled for a while!

Not played much of this yet, but this is I'd say a medium diffculty HOG (once you put the lights on with Brightness!) and even then the objects are tricky to spot. Luckily the abundant star bonuses (= extra hints) make up for that.

I like the style of this so far and frankly I just like the puzzles, so the story line (anyone NOT know the ending?!!) based as it is on the classic novel will hardly be a surprise.

I've not got to minigames yet but I've seen reviews say they range from almost trivial to mind-bending. If that's true, it will need sorting out. No point having generally easy-ish minigames if there's an occasional complete swine now and again to upset the apple-cart. That inconsistency of difficulty doesn't appeal, though naturally I'll expect the minigame difficulty to GRADUALLY increase as the game nears the end.

My only problem was in its initial full screen mode, I had BIG trouble clicking OPTIONS and the screen was flickering plus the mouse didn't work. It took invoking Task Manager (which the game STILL hid from me!) to eventually grab control, this was on Win7 Home. That niggle apart, I'm still trying to get my head around the 3D movement thing and which way I need to move the mouse to correspond with the arrow. Or am I the only person who doesn't "get it?" :)

Looking forward to playing this more!

Was happy to see another HOG/adventure game, but almost didn't download after reading reviews on the Web with people complaining that there was no story, and just one HOG after another. But glad I did install, because there IS a storyline (not much, but enough to make it coherent): the lawyer's search for Hyde and trying to figure out why Jekyll is so fond of Hyde :). And I was happy to discover that the HOGs are broken up a bit by a variety of puzzles, some more challenging than others. There are limited hints, but chances to replenish them. I'm probably about halfway through, and while this doesn't engage me like the best of these do, it's so far fun to drop in on, do a few HOGs and puzzles, and quit for a while, something I'm sometimes unable to do when the story line/mystery/challenge is greater! So a solid C+ for me.

Twice I clicked the email link. So far, 6 hours later, I have not received a download link. Guess you don't want folks trying this out that badly.

Thousands of community members have already downloaded this game, so it's likely something at your end that is causing the problem. If you've previously used a different email to log on then check that email for the download link. If you haven't then contact the giveaway team via the link i provide in the review above. You can also find the contact link at the bottom of the main gamegiveaway page.

Singh, This is also happening to me so it is not just on that end.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi GLD

If the problem was from the giveaway side no one would be able to download/install or get the game to work. Thousands of community members, including myself and my two children have all got this game to work, so it has to be at the community members end, not the giveaway end. When I replied to John it was specifically to that community member, so I wrote:

''Thousands of community members have already downloaded this game, so it's likely something at your end that is causing the problem.''

That does not exclude other community members who are having the same issue. It's probably something to do with the way you (and others who are experiencing this issue) have your computer set up; possibly a conflict with other software, or a particular security setting, or the monitor may be set in such a way the native resolution for the game will not work on the setting you have your monitor set to. Without more information, such as error messages I cannot say exactly what the problem is. Check your event logs immediately after retrying to install and get the game to work. All computers keep a record of all processes that are activated on a computer via the event logs. You can access these via the event viewer, which can be accessed by typing event viewer or event logs in the search field via the start menu, or open up Control Panel , then click on System and Security then Administrative Tools.

GLD, BULL! I have D/L' d lots from this site. Never had an issue, until now. So it's not my end. Don't try to tell me it's something I did. I haven't changed anything since the last D/L, and EVERYONE else seems to be able to get through to me, no problem. Not that I want your game that badly, but I hate neing told that it's something I did, or something with my sysrem. I know it;s neither. so find out what the problem is, fix it, and stop trying to pass the buck with stale C/S responses.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hello again Singh

I'll try to the advise you again in a slightly different way despite your rather negative response to my help. If there was an issue with the giveaway files from the giveaway site, then no one would be able to install, activate or play the game. As it is there are thousands of community members having NO problems whatsoever with the giveaway download. That said, it stands to reason that the issue cannot be with the files downloaded from the giveaway site becasue if there was everyone would have the same issue as you, which thousands of community members do not. That said, the problem HAS to be at the receiving end, or maybe your provider is causing the issue??
All I'm trying to do here is help community members who are having issues getting the game to work, I'm an unpaid volunteer who has been grateful for all this site has done over the past decade. It saddens me that some community members appear to get annoyed/or become very negative when faced with the truth. From your response it would appear you don't like advise, no matter how right it is; unfortunately that's your problem. A final suggestion:

You could try downloading the MPC version (I've linked to the download in my review) and see if you get the same issue with the MPC version. Of course if you do, make sure you uncheck the three check boxes that appear when you first start the installation. If it works just delete the Inchdata folder from the installed folder and you'll have exactly the same game as the giveaway version. The only difference between the giveaway version and the MPC version is the removal of the InchData folder in the giveaway version (that stops the three check-boxes at the beginning of the installation). Sorry I can't be of more help.

Appeared to install fine on my Windows 8.1 computer. Launches but doesn't recognize my corded Microsoft mouse - so I am "stuck". No problem with mouse on other apps.

Well....it certainly downloaded quickly, and installed cleanly, with no troubles on my Windows 10 laptop. The graphics are nice, but there are only still images in the game. That takes away a lot of the enjoyment for me. The instructions are not at all clear, so one is left just clicking around on the first image, to "open their eyes". I found that rather nonsensical. The game seems to rely a lot on the sound track, which is not bad either, but having a game full of still images cheapens it for me. The hidden items are nice and small, and require a lot of hunting, but I like that in a(n) HOG. I don't think this will keep m attention, and will likely uninstall it. Thanks for the free go though !

Game installed OK and started up OK.
In full screen mode, the cursor was almost impossible to see. It kept blinking on and off - mostly off. I went to windowed mode and the cursor was fine, but the game took up a fraction of the screen.
I can't find anything to set the game to timed or not timed. Once in the game, it's impossible to get to the menu. I had to crash the game to get out.
The game punishes the user for too many clicks without finding anything. Get rid of that! I will decide how I play the game. That punishment is insulting to the user.

I may try again later but I've already spent more time on this game than it's worth.

Thank you for your feedback Dryad; try going into compatibility mode and check the graphic options, also make sure the admin checkbox is checked. hopefully that will cure the problem. If all else fails you could try temporarily reducing the screen resolution if you have to play it in windowed mode. The smaller resolution will increase the size of the window. :). :)

I've played the game for just an hour so far, but I quite like it. It doesn't have the (sorry) rather hokey storyline so many HOG games do -- the find all the magic artifacts to save some poor primitive tribe or rescue your kidnapped lover or whatever. Likely this is due to being based on an actual piece of literature with a competent plot and theme and all that good stuff. The actual HOG scenes are fair so far, and there are at least three ways they work better for people like me with older eyes: 1) the game options allows you to increase the overall brightness of the scenes (many games are way too dim/gloomy for me), 2) you can click a button and switch to an enlarged view you can scroll over the scene, and 3) there are stars in the scenes which add to the number of clues you are allowed. All very nice features I wish became standard in these types of games. A slight downside is that the game "hand holds" you a bit. When you have accomplished the goal of a given scene (as, found all the objects or discovered the hidden object) it clearly shows you are done with the area AND adds a directional arrow pointing you where to go next. This may have been necessary due to the need to tell a narrative story in the proper order, but still makes you feel rather controlled. Overall, very nice game.

I've had troubles in the past installing these games but this time I went into my hidden icons (bottom right by the clock) and disabled everything I could and it installed fine. Hurray!

I played for about 15 minutes - it's a tricky game to grasp at first but once I tried a few things I could follow what to do (the instructions are not always easy to follow). I thought on one screen I was supposed to collect what looked like a bunch of matches scattered around but it didn't work - I clicked on the > button and moved on to the next scene. Looks like I'm in timed mode but I don't enjoy those - not sure how to get out of it and switch to relaxed? Nothing in the options.
I quite enjoy these types of games. Thanks so much for the offering. Looking forward to more of these.

To me, the game has a good balance between difficulty and relaxed gaming. His originalities keep my attention awaked.

Root Kapje, I agree. The small size of the file made it quick and easy to download. It was easy enough to keep going, but hard enough to keep my attention. I played until I finished it, and I'd like to play it again to see if anything changes when I make a different choice at the end. I found it quite enjoyable. The story is not presented verbally, they are only in printed comments. So if you turn off the sound as I do, no information is lost. Fun for a short period of relaxation.

very nice and tough game clues are hard to follow making it a challenge for all
graphics are good but really small when looking for items during hunt
could use larger
plus sign to expand and enlarge works but not enough to help old tired eyes

very interesting game story

Thank you for your feedback John. Sadly I don't have enough time this weekend to play the game, which is why i'v only posted material I lifted from the net. I did boot the game up and was intrigued by the start of the game. Graphics look good. Thought the first HOG scene was rather unusual, sort of emulating Dr Hyde being in a drug induced stupor. It made finding some of the items quite difficult. With the warning the repeated clicking would give time penalties, was even more careful when looking for items. :)

After downloading, installing and activation without any problems I encounter a problem while starting the game. I get a little screen saying: "Error (v2,536) (null). An error occurred while loading. The application will now exit", which it does.
I will try the whole process again and see if I will be more successful :-)

Hi Tiscrea

Try changing the screen resolution, and/or go into compatibility mode and check various boxes. Just a suggestion.

Thank you for you comment. Your suggestions reminded me of the tip I got some time ago after another error and after ticking : disable adjust monitor with high DPI settings (properties, comptability) worked. The translation may be wrong, because I tick : "Beeldscherm aanpassen uitschakelen bij hoge DPI-instellingen". I never got the message I mentioned earlier before and didn't know the solution would be the DPI setting again. Thanks for the push in the right direction and enjoy your weekend :-)
