Swampy has struck again. He's now posted over almost 400 comments, all spam while I was working on the review and while i was screen capturing the comments he'd made, he's posted another seven pages (approx 140 comments). I'll let him waste his time a sit takes me seconds to delete each page. :)

Thankfully one of the other admins has come online and has delete a lot of the comments already. I do hope the owners add the software to block comments that have been posted via vpn servers as this is becoming too distracting. Of course that is the whole point of his game. Whether we can do something legally as yet I don't know, but I'm sure there are lawyers that visit this site. Maybe they can offer some advice?

This guy must have seen the difficulties I'm having moderating a the moment due to the DVT, yet he has spent a considerable amount of time posting spam comments. At the present count there has been well over 400 comments posted all of which have been trashed.

Whiterabbit-uk, well, the number 1 priority is for you to defend YOUR life! (Sorry, I can never resist bad wordplay like that.) :)

I've given up scolding WR, folks, on not apologizing to us, considering his exemplary work for many years on this site. The problem is, he's so darn humble that he gets embarassed if you compliment him to much. If you new folks ever get impatient, you should know that our good moderator is, like many of us, not as healthy as he was in his salad days, and game playing and moderating the site help him deal with the constant aggravations of more than one condition, I'm sorry to say. Yet, as the actual military veteran that he is, he soldiers on. (Sorry, did it again. :) ) (By the by Rabbit, if misery truly loves company, I took a fall off a truck (lorry to you fellow Brits, like WR) a couple of months ago and ruptured the tendon that goes over my left kneecap, so am sort of laid up too, though my pain is practically non-existent and my recovery is going swimmingly. The moral: bad things don't just happen to good people like you, but also to us more dubious characters too. hee hee )

So WR, we're all just happy whenever you post. Anything. Always good to know you're with us, even if only in spirit some weeks.

As to the unfortunate situation with Swampy, if they don't put in the VPN block, you may just have to ride it out. I went through this situation on a site I was part of the moderating team a couple of years ago. In fact, multiple times. When some folks get the idea they can be disruptive on the internet it fills them with such a sense of power that it takes awhile before they realize how much time they're wasting being ineffective, when they could just move on to something worthwhile. A lot of them get the bizarre notion that they're crusading for justice and free speech, instead of just being uncivil. Sorry.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Thanks Watcher. Even though it's a little disruptive, I think he's just making himself look even more foolish. I'm quite happy for him to waste his time in such a pointless pursuit ( the posts take seconds to delete), especially now as today will be the last time he's mentioned in public on this site. I'm going to follow Delenns suggestion. Was going to do that originally, but I needed to say a few things myself; plus I wanted to gather more evidence just in case.

A friend and I used to run an America's Army clan and had a web site to support it. We were quite small, preferring mainly to play among ourselves and rarely added new members. On one occasion we did accept a new guy, who at first seemed perfect for the clan; however his behavior became quite erratic and he was warned that be could face a ban. Instead of calming down, he took offense at what had been said to him and became very disruptive, so he was banned from accessing the servers; however, he still had access to the clans web site which was one of those freebies sites were we couldn't ban him. He became extremely disruptive for several months. We ended up transferring everything over to a new site and never heard from him again. I do agree with Delenn though that we should just ignore him. It's easy enough for me just to click on the delete button.

Dear Wabbit,
First of all take care of yourself. We can take care of ourselves and filter thro the spam comments. We love you!!!!

I managed 5 IRC channels for over 10 years. Until they install a VPN block, this is what you do.

DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS! Ignore him no matter what. Never EVER mention the name or how many comments they have made. Just remove the comments when you have time. And no one else mention them either. They WANT attention. Do not give them their 5 minutes of fame. They want YOU to complain about the comments etc. Ignore them and they will soon give up. It's not "fun" to try to get under your skin if you do not respond to any of the things they are doing. No matter what they say or do.......Just ignore the troll.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

You are absolutely right Delenn, I have tried to ignore and in the main have ignored, but still felt I needed to let the community know what this person is doing. also wanted him to know that everything he has posted so far, including the disgusting stuff has been screen captured and stored possibly for future reference. from this point on however i will refrain from mentioning anything to do with this. seems like I do have the owners on bard now.

Say no more. :)

WR,
If you have his IP, you can cross it to his internet provider, send them screenshots of the bad stuff asking for their assistance. Even VPN providers will trace-route his connections. No need to post this, just wanted it to get to you. You could also use a "Captcha" box to require every user to use another preventative measure.

Whiterabbit-uk, He's a troll. I'd stop posting about his posts and just delete them. When he stops getting "press," he'll move on. ;)

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

That's what I've started to do. I've even stopped bothering to screen capture them, as most are inoffensive, just spam. I won't acknowledge him at all after today.

Hi Folks, firstly, thanks to all who sent well wishes last week, please forgive the lack of replies, I'm sure you'll understand why. :)

I will try to post something this morning (already played the game and taken loads of screen captures), however, a follow on to last weeks problems. Things haven't as yet improved and I'm waking up literally in agony every morning. Following my visit to the hospital last Saturday, where I was cleared of any problems, things had become worse by Monday so I secured a telephone triage via my local GP (phoned within seconds of the lines opening but was still number 17 in the que), who asked for me to come into the surgery later that morning. The doctor took one look at my leg and immediately phoned the hospital and booked a Doppler scan, which I was given a few hours later and which showed a massive blood clot behind my knee (I was told it was most likely the flight I'd taken several weeks previously), so was put on blood thinners (not Warfarin) and told the clot would clear over the coming weeks. I'm on the thinners for 3 to 6 months. As yet the pain hasn't subsided much, so am finding it difficult to spent too long sitting at the computer. I will moderate as and when I'm able. It's my daughters 16th birthday today as well, so we may be taking her out for a meal later today (depends on whether I'm up to it). Whatever I will endevour to post something. :)

This is one of my favorite arcade genres next to Shmups and Breakouts so I'm disappointed not to write up a full review. It doesn't have the best graphics I've seen in a Tower Defense, but the depth of game play, i.e. with a multitude of towers and upgrades, this game should keep any TD fan happy for many hours. To those new to the genre, there's even a tips and tricks section and access to 16 You Tube tutorials all of which you can see HERE. I thoroughly enjoyed what little time I've already spent playing the game (I'd already previously purchased this when it was released on Steam 18 months ago). If you've never played tower defense games before I highly recommend you try this and if you decide you like the genre I also recommend one of my favorite tower defense games called Defense Grid: The Awakening (one of the first games I ever purchased for Steam (and it's sequel), though you can find almost 200 Tower Defense games on Steam HERE. There's even a version with a first person perspective called Sanctum 2, which can also be played cooperatively with friends and family.

With 5000 keys, there's a very good chance you could win a key; there are only two actions to perform to stand a chance of winning a key, the first is to share the Steam page with your Steam friends and for a second entry share the giveaway page via Facebook. The latter isn't necessary to stand a chance of winning (for those who refuse to have a Facebook account {like me}). Good luck to all who enter.

Defend Your Life

In Brief

An excellent tower defense game with cartoon like graphics and lots of towers and upgrades. Definitely one of the better TD games available on Steam.

Suggestions:
If you win a key for Defend Your Life, please give some feedback about your opinion of the game, for example, what you liked or disliked about it, or how it could be improved from your point of view . If you don't like this genre at all, please explain why. What, improvements, if any, would change your opinion? There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality?

If you don't win a key, don't mind playing games via Steam or miss the offer totally you can get the game 24/7 via Steam HERE. It usually costs £3.99; however until the 31st October it is on sale with 80% off (i.e. £0.79/$0.99).

The tower defense genre (TD) has become both increasingly crowded (almost 200 PC games via Steam and many more via the free flash sites for example HERE and HERE) and very popular in recent years due to their broad appeal and simple yet addictive game play. With so many competing titles and a limited scope for variation there’s bound to be similarities between certain titles, and Defend Your Life does have quite a bit in common with for example Kingdom Rush – one of the most popular Tower Defense games available. However Defend Your Life does have a fairly unique premise in that it’s set within a human body and sees you struggle to fight off an onslaught of viruses and ailments.

level 1ii
main menu 2
The cute cartoony graphics are pretty nice to look at and are certainly reminiscent of numerous other titles but the human body setting immediately brought to mind the old Saturday morning cartoon Once Upon a Time… Life (of which I still have the 40 odd volume book set and the old VHS videos stashed in the attic room. However any hopes for an element of education were short-lived as it was clear there is a fairly loose adherence to the core concept. The enemy types may consist of real-life named viruses and poisons such as alcohol and nicotine and the various towers include platelet barracks (for slowing down enemy units) and a vitamin station (for buffing your other towers) but otherwise the towers could have come from any other game with fast-firing cannons, powerful tesla coils, and splash damage-inflicting bombardment towers. The fact that one of the enemy units is a robot and the bombardment tower can be upgraded to a nuclear missile silo further undermines the setting.

The most important factor of a game though is how fun it is, and Defend Your life certainly succeeds in that area. It’s easy to get sucked in and lose plenty of type fending off the enemy waves in what starts off as as quite a simple game but shows hidden levels of complexity. The attack paths for the enemies are pre-set and the limited areas for placing your towers means there’s no scope for ‘mazing’ the enemies by altering their paths like you can in my all tme favorite TD game Defense Grid: The Awakening as well as it's sequel DG2: Defense Grid 2 or my other favorite TD games with third and first person perspective respectively Sanctum and Sanctum 2. Surprisingly there are no flying units to deal with in Defend your Life! which makes the first few levels a very straightforward process. Oxygen, your in-game resource, is readily available and you’re guided along a fairly rigid path of which towers to place and where. Both Defense Grid: The Awakening, DG2: Defense Grid 2, and Sanctum 1 & 2 have the additional advantage over todays game in that you can force your enemies to take alternative paths depending on where you place your defense so IMO add a lot more playability to those games compared to today's game. Still, it's a great game.

main menu
O2 generator
As you begin to progress through the levels, your options open and a variety of tactics become available. Towers can be upgraded in a variety of different ways, and crucially you can choose to start each enemy wave earlier for a reward of extra oxygen if you feel you have your defences set up in time. Three different power-up bars (a localised bomb, screen-spanning electric shock and an adrenaline shot for your towers) constantly fill up and choosing when and how to use them can be crucial to your survival, while the introduction of hero units which you can direct around the screen adds an extra level of interactivity missing from most other tower defence games, though not exclusive to today's game.

The shallow difficulty level soon ramps up dramatically as well, to the extent I found myself stuck after only about a third of the 17 available levels, each of which has from 12 to thirty odd waves of enemies to contend with, so don't think the game is short lived with with respect to game length.. At this point the game helpfully reminded me that the earlier levels I had beaten could be replayed on a higher difficulty setting of which there are three i.e. easy, medium and hard so that you can earn extra tablets – which can then be used to purchase permanent upgrades to your towers and abilities. With this in mind I was able to start making progress again – although the increased difficulty (which takes the form of reduced resources, more limited towers and a faster speed) means these easy early levels can become very challenging again. Even after earning extra tablets I still struggled through many of the later levels though and the demanding nature seems slightly at odds with the charming visuals.

Despite being a surprisingly fun experience in most respects, the game lets itself down with some poor production issues. It’s clearly been designed with mobile devices in mind – instructions refer to tapping the screen and images show a finger swiping to activate actions – which also explains the uneven difficulty (as a mobile device would want to encourage players to make in-game purchases to help them). Certain parts of the in-game encylopaedia take you out of the game to Alda Games own website, and the translation appears to be have been completed by individuals of widely differing abilities – some parts are translated so well you wouldn’t know it was created by a Czech developer while other parts are also amusingly poor. The frame rate can also suffer at times which is hard to forgive for such a simple game.

ss_92ace8d065fa0b866646f6dd926e470dbb11345b
It is refreshing however to see the developers supporting the game post-release though with patches to fix glitches and address some of the difficulty issues, and even add an extra stage to up the number available from 16 to 17.

Overall Defend Your Life is certainly fun to play, if a little generic, but with superior games like Plants vs Zombies, Kingdom Rush and Defense Grid available it’s hard to recommend it too highly. Gamers looking for a challenge will definitely be well catered for, and the extra difficulty settings effectively triple the number of stages to play through which provides a worthy amount of content.

Well, I do like tower defence games, so have finally gone and got myself Steam. I've resisted in the past, mostly because the games on offer via Steam have appeared to be beyond my skill set. (MMRPG for example - I just can't keep up). Also, I am unable to ever purchase online, so that limits the interest too. BUT - this game has tempted me.

Downloaded Steam, and now it is going through some sort of "update" process. When that is done, I'll see about exploring through some of the free games Steam offers.

Also keeping you in my thoughts for speedy resolution to your pain issues, White Rabbit!!

Thank you Cat Lady. You can turn off updates if you wish. you need to go click on Steam (in the top left hand corner and from the drop down menus select settings. Explore the window that opens. you should easily find the setting where you can turn off updates. they are not necessary.

Not on social media, as I'm sure many others are not as well (although I realize many are) so these games are off limits for me, which is to bad, would have liked a chance at this one.

About the idiot who is trying to spam the site, agree with another poster who said if you can capture some of the worse stuff they have written, go back to his ISP which you should easily be able to trace, and ask them for help, most of the time they will send a warning to their client, which is enough to get it to stop.
And how somebody can take the time to do something like that just shows how disturbed they are, and how unhappy they are as a person. All because you asked them to stop..smh. Hope you guys get it taken care of, and really hope your GP gets you taken care of WR, so you can get past the challenges you have been going through..again our prayers are with you :)

I've captures some of the most disgusting stuff he wrote. Just stopped bothering to capture anymore and am just deleting when I can. Will no longer acknowledge him at all after today, even if someone else mentions him. As Delenn and others have said, he just needs ignoring. not worth the time of day.

Wellll............ I got the STEAM key so downloaded it. It was an arduous process however. First - STEAM had to do an update to itself and that seemed to drag on forever. OK - STEAM open on desktop and I enter my key and go to download it on my computer. Uh oh.... there are 4 things that need to be added to my computer - one of which is DirectX and .NET framework 3.5 (which covers 2.0 and 3.0 also). That really took forever.....
Finally successful and the game is ready to be played. But first - have to make choice of how I want the graphics - and the screen resolution. Hrumphhhh.......... choices guessed at! (I am not your usual type gamer if you haven't noticed already.) Now ready to play, only to find out I have no clue HOW to play the game - controls, etc. Do I use my mouse?? Keyboard?? Look for directions - couldn't find any. This game makes the assumption that a person knows what they're doing.
All of that being said, I left the game on my computer and gave it a thumbs up. The graphics are nice (and possibly could be nicer if I changed my settings) and the music pleasant. It installed with no problems once all of the other stuff was installed. I think it will be a fun game - if I ever figure out how to move around, aim, fire etc!

Hi Granny, you don't move around. What you have to do is click on the positions that surround the path, finding the best places to place your turrets and other items. Where enemy units double up on themselves via their pathway is a great place to put weapons because they cover a longer pathway. Add buildings that slow them down next to the weapo ns so that the weapons can do more damage, then, when you are able, upgrade the units to become more powerful. The game has a good encyclopedia and several tutorial videos that I have linked to in my review, but all of those are available in game. some of the buttons do open your browser to the developers site, where you can find out all sorts of information about the game. I was going to post more details, but really didn't have the time. We are about to go out for a meal with my daughter for her 16th birthday. If you need any more advice on playing this game, please don't hesitate to ask. I suggest playing it on the easy mode first. Even on that mode it can become quite challenging. Make sure you use all of the buffs available. There are some rechargeable weapons that can be very useful, especially if it looks like you are going to be swamped. also remember, if it's near the end game and it looks like some of the enemies are going to get to your home base, and you don't have enough to buy any more weapons, or upgrades, you can sell some of the turrets etc from the beginning of the route to bolster the final stages defenses. The game can be very tactical, with different levels being played differently. If you like this game, keep an eye open for The Defense Grid: The Awakening going on sale. It's one of the best TD games I've ever played and has so much more replayability.

Ahhhh.......... thanks WR!! I tried to find something in your post but.... I tend to skim sometimes when I'm impatient to find an answer so things get overlooked (I'm working on that trait....). Thank you for the explanation of how things work in this game - I'll now stop pounding on my space bar! I'll go track it all down....Hope you have a wonderful time at dinner with your daughter. 16 is such a special, magical age, especially for a girl! I almost remember back that far! Thanks again for all of your help - and patience - with me. I'm not sure how this is going to look when it posts 'cause I'm trying to follow the hints you gave me to "clean up" the look of the paragraphs. The original was an oooppppsssss. I apparently used the command for bold instead of paragraph. Keeping my fingers crossed this isn't toooo terribly bad!

Thanks, the meal was lovely. We are all vegetarian, but my daughter is very fussy and leaning towards veganism. She absolutely hates cheese, ever since she was ill as a little girl and was sick after eating some cheese. Unfortunately her preferences discount most restaurant meals, but we got by. :)

I had to delete the extra ul's you'd placed at the begining and end of each paragraph. You can place double and even triple or more of these; each one moving the paragraph over more than the previous one for example, I used one for the above paragraphs (including this one) and two ul's for the following
and three ul's for the next paragraphYou also forgot to place the forward slash at the end codes, i.e. < / u l > and four for this
