Today's game Dead Ruines (Dead Riuns) is by the developer Juri, it's a first person arena shooter using the unity engine and is similar to several games we've received previously over the last few months from this developer i.e. Dangerous Dungeon, Colony of Mars, Alien City Defender, Monsters in District 1 and 2, House in the Woods (very similar to this one), Witches, Dangerous Killers, Space Colonyl, Witches 2, Dangerous Robots, Aweful Ruins 2, Danger Desert and Sinister fear.

Dead Ruines is much the same with respect to game mechanic wise as all the previous games we've received from the developer Jurri (via Falcoware Games - thanks guys, appreciated) using similar or the same aassets with the main differen being the backgrounds and story (if there is one).

The aim of the game is to survive the waves of monsters that re-spawn fairly frequently. You already have all the weapons available (using your mouse wheel or the numbers 1 to 7 + 9 that include a pistol (2), shotgun (3), sniper rifle(7), a few assault rifles (4 ,5 & 6 a knife (1), sword (9) and a torch (only available via the mouse wheel or on the assault rifle number 4). You can pick up more ammo by hovering your mouse over ammo packs and weapons and pressing the F key (don't keep it depressed). All weapons and ammo packs re-spawn randomly from various spawn points, some of which are easily identified as some spawn on a coffee tables (Weapons are generally found on the floor, ammo magazines and health packs on the tables). Everything re-spawns after a time. There are safe zones within the arena, where you can rest for as long as is needed if you need a break. If you only have one monitor just press the window key to drop the game down to the task bar so that you can carry on with other tasks; though make sure you've found a safe spot otherwise you may return to find your character is dead.
Unfortunately there is no save available and when you die you start afresh. There's only one level as far as I can ascertain. If Dead Ruines is like all the other FPS arena games from this developer (as mentioned above), you definitely only get one arena to survive in.

Basic controls include the following:

WASD - Character Movement
SPACEBAR - Jump
SHIFT - Sprint
Esc - Exit to Menu
LMB - Shooting

I'll post a few images if I can grab some spare time later. I've got a lot to catch up on as I've devoted the last six weeks to mainly getting my new computer running as well as upgrading a couple more older computers amongst other things..

Whiterabbit-uk,

Finally got my what was to be an upgrade, but turned into a completely new build completed. Took six weeks and some stupid mistakes. Trying to run 10 year old HDD's on a motherboard that only has 6GB SATA ports, won't let you boot up your computer and trying to log into a new Windows install and forgetting that I'd created a pin instead of a password; well, I finally figured it out and now can resume where I left off six weeks ago. I won't be posting any full reviews for a few days as I've been really busy and have got behind in loads of other jobs, but I will definitely be back full time very soon. :)

Whiterabbit-uk, Hooray for new computer-ness. Glad the drama of new build is out of the way and time to just enjoy the pc.

This old laptop is being dramatic - I suspect fan issues though it's not getting hot. Still it sounds very scrappy ,whiny and loud randomly. Going to archive what I can >> Need to burn some discs since I don't have that much external drive space. *sigh* Machines. Need more attention than cats tbh.

Dana,

Hi Dana, Have you checked the inside of the laptop. for dust? I've just stripped my wife's as one of the hinges broke last week and I noticed the fan was badly clogged with dust. Unfortunately the damage to the laptop is unrepairable because one of the fixing screws has broken away so the hinge wont work properly and it splits the screen casing every time you try to close the laptop. I'm going to buy her a new one, hopefully in the Black Friday sales. Thankfully at the moment she has one on loan from her college.

I find it curious how many "different" games this developer has created, and how monotonously similar they all look. I recommend playing the Half Life Remake "Black Mesa" instead. and to stay away from this wannabe Shooter.

Shooter A. Fraid,

Black Mesa is excellent. Any Half Life fan would appreciate it. With respect to these games by Jurij, if he combined then all together into one game, and added some continuity between each 'level' I think it could be a reasonable game, but each individual game becomes very tedious very quickly. The actual game engine is quite decent so long as the developer is willing to spend a lot of money on various asset packs.
