I luv this game. Easy and very simple to play. Just 1 hour to finish all levels. But really enjoyable. Thanks for this nice program.

This is a simple concept that can be challenging at times. It's a neat little game that can hold your interest but the game is to short, it needs more levels. It also needs to be able to save progress on more than one player. Allowing another player to play the game will erase the first player's progress. :(

It's a fun little time waster and the .99 cent retail price is fair but if changes were made, you could double that price. :)

Thanks Wheemplay and GGOTD :!:

Well, I must say it is enjoyable to play for a simple game. I got through 6 levels very quickly then had to stop. Will get back to it later.
Thanks for a fun game.

Nice little time waster puzzle game. You just HAVE to get to the next level....to see the layout. However, I don't feel like James Bond. Just "The Ambassador".

To #17 - There is no "install" or Start Menu shortcut created - just extract the game file from the .zip container (I put mine in my C:\Program Files\Games folder), then create a shortcut to the game file in your Start Menu.

To uninstall just delete the shortcut and game file. Easy.

Fun game but short - spent more time figuring out HOW to move things than actually moving them!

Figured it out. Seems that you have to click on the star of the
completed level you want to replay.

Have a good one

Fun game. Anyone figure out where your progress is kept on the
hard drive. I'd like to give someone else a chance to play by
erasing saved game, cause the game won't let you play a level
over, once you solve it.

Cheers

Oopps. Should have read more of the comments. Now I see you can move the boxes, to do things so the ball can enter gates, etc.

Neat little game but very hard to play. Level Two provides absolutely no clue on how to keep the gates open so you can grab the key.
Level two is so frustrating, it caused me to give up.

Nice sounds, cute game, maybe good for people who just MUST figure out a puzzle. But kinda lacking in exciting game-play.

A very clever game. Definitely a keeper. Once you complete a level, it is really hard to stop and not go on to the next level to see what the next layout and challenge will be.

The nicest thing about this game is figuring out how to solve the puzzle. Some levels are real mindcrackers. Thumbs up! More levels should be welcome.

Thanks for a good review whiterabbit. It is s a simple game but looks like fun.

I hope it works out better for me than yesterday. If it was the directX it didn't work even after doing all you said. Sometimes you wish things here just worked without have to do a bunch of extra downloading. Especially when you know your computer is up to date on everything.

Thanks again.

..............................Moderator comment............................

Sorry you didn't get yesterdays game working. The error message you quoted definitely implied it was the direct x that was the problem (it sad D3D which is usually a reference to direct 3D). did you try the freebie from Gametop. So long as you make sure you uncheck any tick boxes, and don't mind being directed to their site every time you close the game down the games are clean.

White Rabbit - hold the ball against the button to get the box through the right area to near the left barricade. Then move to open the left barricade and while the ball is still on the button, push the box between (near one of the gates). Then get your stuff, open the left doors again to release the box, move it out of the way and then go open the right barricade again. While you hold the button down, block one gate with the box. No timing required! You're holding the buttons to give you plenty of time!

It is a little tricky moving the ball or box with the "sphere or movement) by your mouse but it gives it some longevity by trying to do the levels with less movements.

I thought you used the ball to move the boxes at first but eventually figured that out. The real timing situation is in level 3 - getting past all those lasers before they burn through all the boxes!

It's a neat little game with some replayability in getting faster. It's not real clear how to save your status but I finally figured that out, too. You have to explicitly "save" the game.

.....................Moderator comment.....................

Thanks Diane. Thankfully, once I realized that you could also move the boxes in the same way as the green ball it all became easy. iIinitially though you had to move the boxes by hitting them with the green ball.

The game don´t go to Level-2.
I only can play Level-1 and than it´s stop.
What I do?

.........................Moderator comment...................

Seems like you may be thinking on the same line that I did. you can move the boxes as well as the green ball. I initially though you had to move the boxes using the green ball, but no, you can move most objects by clicking near to the object; as someone else pointed out, the nearer to the object, the harder the push. good luck. :)

Ball control is determined by how close to the ball you click, the closer to it you click, the harder you hit it, and the further it bounces off of other items. The same goes for pushing the boxes.
Level 2 requires you to roll up against the upper button to open the right side door. You need to keep the ball there while you push the box through into the middle compartment. Then do the same for the lower button to open the left door. Then you push the box againse the end of the door to hold the door open while you collect the key and star. Repeat this for the right door to get to the exit.

...................................Moderator comment............................

Ahhhhh!....... the penny has dropped. I thought you had to move the boxes using the green ball. I didn't realize you could move the boxes independent of the green ball. Now the game seems so much easier. Thanks for clearing that up. My only excuse was that I’d just got up when I wrote the review and checked the game out. There's no demos from this developer; (well not for most of the games we've been getting), so I’ve not been able to write up a review prior to the giveaway starting. I tend to rush through the testing so that I can get the review posted as quickly as possible.

@Whiterabbit .... The trick for level 2 is to place the box on the switches for the doors ... You can do it. I have complete confidence in you :)

........................Moderator comment....................

Ha ha I wish I did lol. As mentioned above, the problem I'm having is not being fast enough to get to the box through the right hand gate once I've pressed the button, so the game has been consigned to the try again later. I'm keen to check out Bulletstorm, which was released yesterday. I got it on pre-order and haven’t had the chance to play it properly yet, so am leaving the arcade games for today (holding my head down in defeat). :)

Is anyone else having trouble getting through the doors on level 2? I must be getting too old for these games, lol

Up to level 3 my scores are - 33 clicks / 112 clicks / 11 clicks - That includes a few burnt up Smiley Balls. - I'm going to keep playing for a while anyway.

Saved the game, closed it and reopened and it had no way to select a new game. Opened to the saved game when I clicked play...

If the developer is looking for ways to improve this it would be nice to have a way to go to the menu during game play and have some option buttons. Sound levels besides the on off in he upper corner, Various players saved games, full screen adjustments and such. At 99 cents a game it does not seem too reasonable for you to put too much time into it but if you do play with it let me (for one) know. I like it.

Given the limited control you have over the green ball I don't like the type of level as I feared would be coming in level 11. As long as you can create a safe passage for a reasonably long time by shoving boxes around I'm OK with the game but trying to escape being fried by searching for the few clicks at the right distances from the ball to navigate around an obstacle quickly enough isn't my idea of fun. I can't be bothered to keep trying getting that just right.

You shouldn't mix puzzle style gaming with dexterity style gaming especially with such awkward controls. Well... in my opinion anyway. For me it spoils a potentially nice game. I like the more relaxed games that have no time factor/pressure of any kind.

I downloaded and I like the EZ install with no serial numbers or emails. That is the way to do it!

Simple game except for level 2.
LOL White Rabbit. I was stuck there too until I discovered you can also move the boxes by clicking near them. Open the right door and push the box through. to the center.

I know you can figure it out from there.

99 cents for the game seems about right and Wheemplay apparently has a few other games for the same price. Smart move I say. A person that can have 5 games for 5 bucks is more likely to fork over the cash than to purchase one $10 game.

Also I found that clicking near the ball or object sends out a 'wave' and the distance/direction the object moves depends on the nearness/direction of the 'click'. Hope that makes sense. That and multiple clicks with a fast mouse hand/eye are needed at times. Those boxes do burn up.

Keeper for me (for occasional fun anyway) but I like simple mind games that don't demand I beat up my keyboard.

For the guy stuck on level 2, use the box.

.........................Moderator comment.............................

Thanks Jeffrey; however, I know what I need to do; the problem is I can't get to the box before the gate shuts after hitting the button. I'm just not quick enough, or nimble enough with my fingers anymore. :(

Terrible gameplay and no uninstaller. Not even worth it as a freebie.

You don't need an uninstaller with this game because it's free standing. just delete the installed executable from C:\Games\

Sorry guys, downloaded this one and didn't enjoy it at all. IMHO the gameplay is clunky, awkward to control and just didn't hold my attention for longer than a couple of minutes. Although it's from the same stable as Winterball, I think that this is a poor effort. Deleted from my computer already, but as always, appreciative of the offer

review to follow later. Was getting a 502 error on the site......................................

Box and Ball Quest:

Installation:

Today’s game downloads to a 6.36Mb zip file and unpacks to a read me doc with the terms and conditions and instructions for running the game from the executable plus a dual activation and set up module.

The game installs to C:\Games by default and is 5.95Mb in size once unpacked. There is no shortcut installed nor any uninstaller. To uninstall the game just delete the executable. As with other Wheemplay games there is no folder just the executable.

I’ve tested the game on Win XP Pro 32 bit, Vista Home Premium 64 bit and Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit with no problems.

Introduction:

Click and run, hide and have a few second brake! Not so simple, but very addictive!

Reference http://app.wheemplay.com/boxandballquest/ accessed 26th Feb 2011

The Game:
Box ‘n’ Ball Quest looks like straightforward and relatively easy puzzle game where you have to get your green ball to the escape hatch in as few clicks as possible, picking up stars and a key to unlock the hatch door on your way. However the puzzles are not as easy as they first appear. The simple layouts give a false impression of difficulty. The developer has created some devious puzzles using lasers, movable and unmovable objects, doors that are activated by buttons and holes for the ball to fall down ; of course some of the objects such as boxes can be moved to lock lasers or block doors open etc, so don’t despair when you get stuck because there should be a solution; that said, I’m already stuck on level 2, lol. Check out the screenshots via the link below (in the images section).

The game opens up in windowed mode as default. You can change it to full screen by clicking on the appropriate button to the top right of the window. You can also close the game down via one of those buttons as well. You can toggle the in game music off by clicking on the speaker icon to the top right of the playing arena. Initially you get prompts and hints such as ‘use the boxes’ and ‘click near the ball’ ;-)

Features:

• Cute green ballie

• 20 incredibly addictive levels

• 3 secret levels

• Achievements and highscores

Images:

You can see several screen captures as a slideshow via the following link:

http://s571.photobucket.com/albums/ss160/Whiterabbit04/Box%20n%20Ball/?albumview=slideshow

Conclusion:
Apart from being stuck on level 2 this game looks like a keeper for me (hopefully someone will post a solution, Level design is relatively plain and simple, which is ideal for a coffee break time killer. Unfortunately there is no levels editor, which previous games from this developer have had, which is a pity because there is only 20 levels plus a few secret levels included. Due to the sparsity of levels I reckon this game is only worth around 5 out of 10; still, don’t let that put you off downloading this game.

Suggestions:

I’d add a levels editor to the game or at least double up the number of levels. Add the ability to change the colour of the ball and improve the look of the levels. This game looks like a hundred other free games that you can get from places like Caiman Island Games
