To those that continue to have problems installing games from this site; it's more than likely due to the gamegiveaway wrapper which contains Themida code. Some anti-malware suites see anything with Themida coding as a threat (due to it's sometimes use in hiding bad code, so your anti-malware suite may block the download. It has been shown time and time again that disabling your security 'temporarily' should solve the problem. Once you've unwrapped and installed the game, your anti-malware can be turned back on. There is no difference in how the games are downloaded now or previous to the recent site upgrade. I know many of you are dubious about turning off your security, but if you consider that the game giveaway site has been operating since Dec 2006. They used to give games away every day (minus the odd day when they were doing server maintenance); then, when they changed to weekends only early Spring 2008 they have given away games virtually every weekend since (well over a thousand games) and no game has ever been infected with malware. The giveaway team check every game given away using several anti-malware suites before they are released to the community. The giveaway site has a very good standing with all the major search engines and the giveaway team do not want to jeopardize that by allowing malware ridden games to be given away.

To those who don't want a Facebook account, or to use an email to be able to download today's game, there's no need. Jjust go through the motions, i.e. ignore the email method and click on the Facebook button, when the Facebook login window appears, just cancel it. The green download button will then appear and you can download as normal.

Angry Daddy

In Brief

A runner game, where you have to avoid obstacles while running away from your girlfriends father. This is a port from an android game. Some of the images posted below have been taken from the phone version, the game was ported over to PC for us to get hooked. ;)

It may be a simple game, however this type of game is highly addictive and in my opinion worth at least a 7 out of 10 for Gameplay.

Suggestions:

If you don’t like today's offering, instead of posting a few words saying you think this is a waste of time, or other words to that effect, would you instead give some feedback detailing why you don't like the game and how it could be improved from your point of view. If you don't like this genre at all, explain why. There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. There is also a thread over in the frums where you can post suggestions about which games you would like to see here.

If you miss today's game giveaway you can get the game for free HERE 24/7; however, please do be aware of the issues surrounding games from such sites compared to the game giveaway site - please see the forum post about problems installing etc, which I used to include with my reviews, (see below for link)

The Game:

A small window opens on clicking the Angry Daddy's game icon, this enables you to configure you game for graphic quality. There are six settings -

Fastest
Fast
Simple
Good
Beautiful
Fantastic

Obviously, if you have a really slow computer select Fastest, if you have loads of resources max out the graphics quality. You can also select whether to play in a window or full screen, and, if you have more than one monitor, you can choose which monitor to play from. There are loads of screen resolution choices from 640x480 to 1920x1080.

Angry Daddy has been given away twice previously (August 2014 then again July 2015) where it received moderate acceptance. You can see the comments made by the community by clicking on the dates above.

angry daddy 640x480 screenshot 1

angry daddy 640x480 screenshot 2

When you are ready to start the game, tap the screen with your mouse pointer, this results in Angry Daddy appearing with a pitch fork and he starts to chase you. The only keyboard bindings you need to concentrate on are the arrow keys. i.e.

Up = Jump

Left = move left

Right = move right

Down = slide under

If you don't make your manouver and crash into an obstacle, you get a couple of seconds to bribe Angry Daddy with Moonshine. You start the game with some moonshine, however, later in the game, you will need to create your own moonshine by purchasing from the shop. If you don't have any moonshine left, or you don't click on the button to give moonshine to angry daddy when you crash, you have to re-start the game from the beginning.

For those of you who find it difficult' with a little practice and perseverance you'll be wizzing away and breaking your record runs over and over.

What this game lacks is a world leaderboard. That would probably give some community members the incentive to carry on.. :) Good luck.

If you like runner games, Steam have a great stable of them, for example Bit Trip runner 1 and 2, Goat on a Bridge, T.E.C. 3001. If you want to be a little more daring and more immersive , I highly recommend the parkour game Mirrors Edge, a 3D world where you run, jump and slide across sky scrapers, scoffolding and cranes. You can pick that game up for a few pounds when its on sale either from Steam Origin or hard copy. Other related games that I highly recommend are Brink, MDK 2HD and AaAaAA!!!: A REckless Disregard for Gravity, all with an element of running involved. There used to be a free alpha release of the latter game posted in the game synopsis over in the game discussion sticky section. It doesn't do the final game justice, but is still an excellent freebie game to check out (with at least 20 levels to try). All the levels are replayable and you're unlikely to play any of the levels in the same way each time you play. The developer gave me a level editor for a Reckless Disregard while it was still in beta, but it was never officially released. I don't know whether the alpha version is still available, but if not it's actually on sale over on Steam with 80% off this weekend. There are actually two excellent versions of the game, A Reckless Disregard for Gravity and For the Awesome both of which are only on sale at only £1.39 each. I also have a spare copy; if you are on my Steam friends list, drop me a message and I'll gift A Reckless Disregard ...... to you. I may not reply right away as I've been too busy to check my comments recently, so please date stamp your comment as I've only got one spare copy so it will be first come..... :)

Conclusion:

If you are going to comment on this game please leave useful feedback, be it positive or negative, and suggest other things you'd like to see that would make playing this game a more positive and/or enjoyable experience for you.

Angry Daddy is a typical runner game, with several different obstacles such as jumping, collecting gold, avoiding being caught and turning corners. These games tend to be highly addictive. I've got several excellent ones on my Steam account. This will be kept in my game library for those odd moments when i need a break from my AAA games. Ideal for a coffee break, or just a quick pick me up game in between doing your house work, or other activities at home.

I've added more categories to the score board, but I won't be giving an overall average score based on all the categories listed above because each holds a different weight when comparing each category . Overall, I'd give The Flying Dutchman an 7 out of 10.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the developer StarsAshes for giving Angry Daddy for free today and to the game giveaway team for finding yet more games.

Extra information:

The problems section that used to be posted here in the Game review is now included in the Game Discussion FAQ's thread; which you can find HERE.

I've updated the games section that used to be posted with the review. The thread is now called 'Weekly round up of game deals, formerly the games section of the weekly reviews. You can find the new thread (which I've posted in the sticky section of the game discussion forums to make it easier to find if you are perusing the game discussion forums) HERE.

The latest free game over on Origin has changed to the excellent FPS game Medal of Honor Pacific Assault. It's a little dated compared to the latest FPS games, but is still a great game with excellent graphics. It was released around 2005 so should easily play on most computers of today.

You can get it HERE. Please note that you do require the Origin game platform to be able to download and install the game.

If you are having problems installing the game check the thread I've linked to above. If you can't find any fixes check the comments made below and over the last few weeks for suggestions. Thank you.

Angry Daddy Scr 02

Angry Daddy Scr 01

For those who found last weeks game The Flying Dutchman too dull looking, Corylea posted information HERE (edited) on how to change the colors of the tiles, which made the game look better. I've moved her post to the top of the comments to make it easier to find.

Corylea said:

''For those who dislike the look of the game or who find it hard to distinguish one game element from another, this is a VERY easy game to mod. All of the graphics files are available in dds format, and five minutes in Photoshop produced the image found in the link above. FlyingDutchmanModded_zpsolx2ecee.jpg If you'd like to mod the appearance of the game, the game elements are in the GameBlock_02.dds file, and the background or game board is in the GameField_01.dds file, both of which can be found in the TheFlyingDutchman_Game\DATA\EnemyData folder. Be sure to back up any files you change, and save any changes you make in DXT1 format. (You'll need the free Nvidia plugin for dds for Photoshop.'')

If you don't have a copy of Photoshop or an equivalent program such as Paint Shop Pro, you can get version 9 of Photoshop together with all of the contents of the Complete Suite version 2 (Adobe CS2) e.g. Adobe Premier Pro video editing suite, Adobe illustrator, Adobe Version Cue, Adobe Bridge, Adobe After Effects Adobe In Design, Adobe GoLive, Adobe Stock Photo,s and the pro version of Adobe Acrobat v7 HERE totally free from Adobe. It's been free for about 3 years now. do bear in mind all of the products have been massively upgraded since the versions being given away, however, the programs you get are fully functional and in the case of Photoshop and Premier Pro, both of which i've used, they are still amongst the best editing software around. There are so many free plugins and free video tuttorials available for Photoshop that you've basically got a photolab that can do much more than any photolab could 20 years ago and would have set uyou back millions in equipment and consumable material costs just to get some of the basic effects you can get with Photoshop. For those not familiar with the program, it may seem very complicateda t first, but with a few tutorials under your belt you can do almost anythig to enhance any photograph you have. My mother-in-law had some negatives of the day my wife was born over 45 years ago, not only were the negatives faded, they had been scratched and even worse attacked by mites and fungal spores after being stored in the attic; (irds had nested near to where the negatives had been stored, and mites had spread to the negative files). She was going to throw them away, but I suggested she let me try to save the best of the photographs. I scanned the negatives using a good negative scanner (almost 10,000dpi). I was able to magic wand all of the damaged area's and enhance the colors. My mother-in-law said the edited photographs looked like they had only just been taken. That's what Photoshop can do for you. Before my accident I used to do a lot of photo-editing for friends, family and work colleagues. Transposing people into group photographs becasue they had been absent from the staff party, or had taken the photograph, and no one had bothered to take a phot of them in the group as well as editing out unwanted and ugly things, making it look like you were the only person on the beach or other usually crowded tourist spot, and even made your images look like oil paintings, pencil drawings, gauche and watercolor paintings. I even got a contract to create watercolor like images of all of the National Trust properties in the county for a private hospital, editing them using Photoshop and even adding more dramatic skies. It's amazing what you can do with this free version of Photoshop (though at the time i was using an earlier version of Photoshop (v7). I highly recommend Adobe CS2 to everyone interested in photography and archiving their family history.

Homeworld Remastered Edition

..............................Moderator comment...............................

Thanks Mike. I've already got all of the games mentioned on the site, most via Steam, The remastered version of Homeworld cost me £27 ($34.99), would have liked to see this deal before I purchased it at full price. :) That Mad Max deal is also an excellent deal. Great game, especially if you like Post apocalyptic games with atmosphere. The Humble Bundle mentioned via your link is also an excellent bargain, apart from homeworld there are several other games included with some more to add later this week. For the top tier you only pay $12 and that nets you the Homeworld Remastered Collection (£26.99), Chivalry: Medieval Warfare (£18.99), Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (£10.99), Ultimate General Gettysburg (£10.99), Tropico 5(£18.99), GRAV (£14.99), Victor Vran (£15.99) totalling almost £118 (approx $160) with more to be added for only $12, that's over 90% off those games. :)

At least the community will find some great deals. I've added the coding so that the link is clickable. Thanks. :)

Agree with comments about poor port from phones & tablets. Worse part being that bribe part needing the mouse after slamming away with arrow keys & right hand. Gave up after got too the girders parts. Yes after enough runs you do get
the motion down but that's not enough to hold anyone who is beyond twitchy feelie age. Was ok Windows 10 x64 Pro.
Thanks GOTD will check Sunday. Back to Blizzard games.

"I honestly don't understand why they port these kind of games to the PC." by Mavadelo

To each their own I imagine. There is enough interest in playing typical Android games on a PC/laptop that there are now several projects developing Android emulators just for that. Google on terms like Windows Android &/or Android on PC. When you are running Android [on your PC or Android device], do check out Amazon's Underground over in their Android apps & games section... you'll find an [I think] amazing number of games for free you'd have to pay for elsewhere.

Of course if you're running 10 there is a selection of these sorts of games in the store -- just not nearly as many as you see with Android & iOS.

"Only suggestion I could have for the Developers (StarsAshes I believe.) would be to have some mouse controls for some of us spoiled kids :) " by Alan Jones

My personal opinion & all that, Please DO continue to call attention to that sort of thing. Microsoft is making it as easy as they can to port these apps & games over to the Windows store, with their bridge software etc., & they've recently bought another company, giving developers the ability to write code once, port anywhere, right from Visual Studio. Android game developers I think could use some encouragement to use that stuff.

Thank you for your feedback Mike :)

The first android game I purchased that was ported over to PC was a game called Marble worlds with two expansion packs. i bought them for my son about 10 years ago who loved marble rolling games. The only drawback was that the largest you could get the game to look on screen was about a quarter of the monitor size when the monitor was set to it's lowest resolution. That was back then. The lowest resolution I can set my monitors to now make the size so small those games are hard to play now as you can hardly see the marble, lol.

And now I have another problem - I'm unable to make the moonshine button work. I click on it with my mouse and nothing happens. So all I'm doing is starting over and over again. That gets very boring. What might be wrong? is there a key I can click on?

I have two comments:
1) it would help if your included a brief set of instructions on how to play. I know this sounds simple, but it was abit confusing until I read the moderator's overviews.

2) I'm right handed so I use my mouse with my right hand. The arrow keys (or numeric pad) are also found on the right hand side of the keyboard. Movement in the game is simple enough with the arrow keys but then you crash and have to fumble around for the mouse so you can click on the moonshine button. I would make playing of this game much smoother and less annoying (since you always have to start over if papa catches you) if you set another key (i.e. space bar) to click on for starting the game and for the moonshine clicks. In other words, eliminate the use of the mouse.

Thanks for this and so many other enjoyable games.

..............................Moderator comment...............................

Thank you for your feedback Mewzicat. That's a very good idea, tohugh becasue it was a touch phone type game ported to PC, they porobably coldn't be bothered. I just about make it clicking with my mouse and I'm left handed, so I can have my mouse readt while using the arrow keys with my right hand ( always have used my right hand for those even tohugh i'm left handed. :)

I honestly don't understand why they port these kind of games to the PC. That said .. as far as runner games go this is a decent one. Graphics are ok, gameplay functions as should. Those that like runner games should find some fun in this. For me... heading over to origin to get MoH, I have it on disc but it isn't read anymore by my pc for some reason so Origin is a good way to get it back without resorting to bays with buckaneers or feline named sites. Hoping tomorrow will be more to my liking. As always thanks to GGOTD and the devs for allowing us to play these games.

..............................Moderator comment...............................

Hi Mavadelo, same for my hard copy. Tried to play it last year, but wouldn't work. Thoiugh I think if you find a NoCD patch and make sure it's also patched to the latest version it may work. I had the same problem with my hard copy of Men of Valor. got it to work with a NoCD patch.

With respect to android ports, for me they are a good thing becasue i don't use mobile phones. We have two old ones for the kids when they go on trips (a Blackberry and a non descript phone from about 6 years ago., but neither of them are the type you can play games on. I do like some of those android runner games so would like to see more ported to PC. :)

PS have you made any more scenarios for Train Simulator 2016? I'm looking forwards to the new crop of new tracks coming on sale. :)

Superb, the angry daddy who allows his daughter to dress up like a tart, seduces you, and now run for your life cause you kinda liked the forbidden fruit. Thus and what's the problem? The "Bieber kicking" game scored lots of negative responces, I liked it. Storyline is simple, if you don't like these kind of games, don't even bother to download and install.

Now I just hope that if I manage to finish the top level I will be rewarded with an RPG, get to turn around and blast the living daylight out of this angry daddy, however since this is an endless game I reckon this is not going to happen. oh dear...

I think this game is in poor taste - the game play is nice and all, but it plays on stereotypes. Would you equally enjoy a game where the antagonist were an overly-protective Arab or African, or would you scream about the stereotyping?

..............................Moderator comment...............................

Thank you for your feedback Bryane :)

How would you change the game to make it less stereotypical?
There are several games in the 'Angry' series including one called Angry Gran, which starts off in one of several major cities (Paris, London, Cairo, Grannywood(Hollywood), where Gran escapes from an asylum, and others such a Subway Surfers, Minion Rush, Spiderman Unlimited, Temple Run 2, Temple Run Brave, Temple Run Oz, Sonic Dash 1 & 2, Bus Rush, Rail Rush and Agent Dash as well as many more, all with basically the same game play, but with different themes.

Downloaded, Installed and Activated with no problems on my Win10x64 machine using Edge for the Browser. A very nice little game today if I may say so. Have only played for a very short while so this review will be brief. The Graphics are very nice, the runner easy to manipulate. Lol, I still find myself running head on to some of those barricades though! Usually trying to cut the corners a little close I guess. I'll have plenty of time to check this one out as its a definite keeper for me! Its not a game I see myself playing "often" as other games and genre's have my attention at the moment. But something I will come back to and back to and play half hour/hour at a time. Lol , just the ticket for a break from the usual games.

Only suggestion I could have for the Developers (StarsAshes I believe.) would be to have some mouse controls for some of us spoiled kids :)

Thank you GGOTD and of course the Developers for this nice diversion.

..............................Moderator comment...............................

Thank you for your feedback Alan, glad you like the game. :)

I find these running games very addictive. The list I mention in my review includes only a fraction of running/racing games where you have to avoid obstacles. If you look at android versions there are even more.
